Rowanpaw surveyed the clearing making her way torwards the freshkill pile when she was stopped in her tracks by the larger black tom. Rowanpaw flattened her white tipped ears out, her green eyes flashing with irritation. The grey she cat with black stripes was favored the most by her father due to the fact that she looked like their deceased mother which meant that Blazepaw purposefully sought her out to pick on her. Blazepaw shared the same father but his mother was the she cat his father mated with after Rowanpaws mothers death.
Rowanpaw was the baby of her litter and daddys little girl. Her siblings did not get along with her father but Rowanpaw loved her father to pieces and could find no faults. Her siblings had given up on reasoning with their baby sister due to the fact that bring up their father always started fights amongst them.
"Get out of my way Blazepaw." Rowanpaw hissed.
"What are you going to do about it?" Blazepaw sneered but the sneer quickly turned into surprise at the sound of his fathers voice.
"Leave her alone." Shadowfur said sharply, coming to stand beside his daughter.
"But I..." Blazepaw began.
"Dont worry. I informed your mentor that you have been picking on your younger clanmates. He is waiting in the elders den for you with some mousebile. Maybe now you will learn to stop acting like you are above everyone else." Shadowfur growled at his son, narrowing his identical icy blue eyes at him.
Blazepaw gave him a resentful glare but stalked off torwards the elders den.
"Thankyou daddy." Rowanpaw spoke up with a purr.
"No problem sweetheart. He needs to learn to stop picking on you." Shadowfur mumbled, giving her a swift lick between her ears.
Rowanpaw caught the glare one of her siblings was giving their father. Shadowfur met Leafpaws glare steadily. Leafpaw angrily looked away and went back to talking to their adoptive father and the clan deputy, Raventail. Raventail and Ciderstream had been expecting kits when Rowanpaws mother had suddenly died. Both of them had agreed to take in the older kits and had raised them like their own. Rowanpaw wasnt as close to her adoptive father as the other siblings were due to the fact that she felt like it would be a betrayal to her blood related father. She was even distant to her adoptive mother as well even though Ciderstream had loved her like she was her own. Her siblings were all very close to their adoptive parents. Afterall, they were great parents but for some reason Rowanpaw just hadnt wanted to form that close bond that the rest of her siblings had. Shadowfur and Raventail also did not really get along due to the fact that Shadowfur felt like Raventail had stolen his kits love from him. Shadowfur had wanted nothing to do with his kits when Rainstorm, their mother, died but Rowanpaw had gotten through to him but now his kits wanted nothing to do with him.
"She hates me." Shadowfur sighed.
"Leafpaw hates everyone." Rowanpaw shrugged. "Dont worry about her."
Shadowfur was about to say something when a small black tom bounded up to Rowanpaw.
"Hey Drizzlekit." Rowanpaw meowed in greeting to the small kit who looked exactly like their father.
Drizzlekit stopped in his tracks when he saw Shadowfur. Shadowfur had once been great with his kits and a great cat to be around but when Rainstorm died, he had stopped being the great cat everyone loved. He had stopped being a great father. The only one of his kits Shadowfur really got along with was Rowanpaw. Shadowfur didn't even really get along with his current mate Dappledleaf. The two were constantly arguing about the fact that he didn't ever pay attention to her or the current litter of kits she was nursing. Drizzlekit was from that current litter of kits and Rowanpaw felt bad because he never knew the father she once knew who used to be caring and fun.
Drizzlekit scraped at the ground nervously under his fathers gaze. Shadowfur sighed, flicking his tail to say goodbye to Rowanpaw and padded off. The little kit no longer looked excited but now just looked subdued at the fact that his father had barely acknowledged him.
"Want to see if we can sneak up on Sparkpaw?" Rowanpaw asked mischeviously, trying to get the younger kit to cheer up.
"Sure!" Drizzlekit mewled in excitement, following his friend to where Sparkpaw was curled up, trying to take a nap by the entrance of the tunnel. Rowanpaw stealthily prowled closer, getting ready to jump on him when he opened his eyes.
"Nice try Rowanpaw. You too Drizzlekit." He mumbled, looking slightly amused but also a bit annoyed that the two younger cats had interupted his nap.
Sparkpaw was impossible to sneak up on. He was several moons older than his friends and was constantly protecting them like an older brother. He had a killer nose so he could scent anything coming from miles away.
"Did you really try sneaking up on him AGAIN?" Moonpaw inquired, padding up to her friends.
This small she cat was only a moon older than Rowanpaw and was often getting into lots of trouble with Rowanpaw.
Rowanpaw shrugged. "Worth a try."
As the four friend went on to update each other about their day, Rowanpaw found herself hoping that ll of them would make it through the calling.
