Now, to be fair, I did warn you guys that you were catching up with me, and when that happened updates wouldn't be coming as frequently. Now, let's speed things up a bit, yeah? I do not own Yugioh, enjoy. [YUGI, YAMI, and ATEM]
Chapter 30
"…And they didn't even punish me right." Yugi said pouting, on Monday, to his friends.
"Did you enjoy their punishment?" Malik asked.
"No." Yugi said with a huff.
"Then how didn't they punish you right?" Ryou asked confused.
"I wanted to enjoy my punishment."
"Well, we can't always get things that we want." Ryou said patting his back.
"I know." Yugi sighed.
"So what did they do?" Jou asked.
"They took me on the tea cups twice in a row. I got sick and they decided that since I didn't feel good, we should go home." Yugi said in a sarcastic tone.
"Did you?" Malik asked.
"Pfft, no. In retaliation I took them on the 30 foot drop again. They scream like girls at high heights, it friggin hilarious." Yugi said laughing into his hands at the memory.
"Really?" Jou asked as they all looked over at the vampires in question who were talking with Seth, and Marik, completely unaware that they were being discussed.
"Yeah, it's really high pitched and loud. Everyone was laughing at them. Oh, the next day we all have a day off, we have to take all of them on high rides. See who else is afraid of heights. I still can't believe that they're afraid of heights, they're vampires, they stalk humans from high heights, they shouldn't be afraid of them." Yugi said still snickering into his hands.
"Well, at least they offered you lots of entertainment on Thursday." Ryou said grinning slightly.
"So what did the rest of you do?" Yugi asked.
"Well, Seto, Seth and I went on a proper date, suits and all." Jou said rolling his eyes.
"Hey, you chose to love someone who's rich, of course he's going to drag you to fancy restaurants." Malik said shaking his head.
"I know, I know, but just once, just once I would like to go to the Burger World for a dinner date. I don't care if we wear suits, just once can we go to Burger World?" Jou asked pulling at his hair.
"No." Yugi, Malik, and Ryou said together.
"Yeah I didn't think so, but it was worth a shot to hope for a few seconds right?" Jou asked crossing his arms.
"Of course, there is nothing wrong with hoping." Ryou said patting his back.
"So anyway, Marik and I just strolled around Domino until it was time for me to go home. Oh, did I tell you guys? Odion is coming home for Christmas!" Malik announced excitedly.
"So is Heba!" Yugi said dropping the bomb on them.
"What!?" they all shouted gaining the attention of the vampires.
"Better lock up our boyfriends." Malik grumbled.
"He could have taken Dilan from me any day. I would have served him on a silver platter to my cousin." Yugi said grinning.
"Yeah, too bad he wasn't around to try that." Jou said rolling his eyes.
"Why is it, he's never around when you want him to be, but he's always around when you don't want him to be." Ryou asked.
"Because he has a sort of sixth sense for knowing when he's not wanted, and showing up then." Yugi explained.
"Anyway, Akeifa and I returned Bakura and the wheelchair and went home. Bakura showed up around midnight angry, but then again he shouldn't have pushed me out of the wheelchair just as Akeifa started to move him, now should he of?" Ryou said in an angry tone.
"Akeifa accidentally ran you over with a pregnant werewolf didn't he?" Yugi asked.
"Yes, he did, and it hurt." Ryou said stamping one of his feet.
"Poor Ryou." They all cooed giving him a group hug.
"What's with the group hug?" Yami asked.
"Ryou needed love." Yugi answered.
"So anyway, did anyone else get a chance to turn in their College applications?" Jou asked pulling away.
"Oh, I did! And I hear they're putting up the grade averages today!" Yugi said in a giddy voice.
"I doubt you'll be on top what with all the days that you've missed." Ryou said offhandedly.
"No, I'm always on top!" Yugi gasped taking off into the school.
"Please let him be on top." Malik muttered before running after him.
Yugi raced through the school towards the office. The teacher who was putting up the papers had only just walked away when Yugi skidded to a stop in front of the list. He checked the first ten, sighing in relief when he saw that was still on top. All those extra hours of homework paid off, and put him where he belonged. Looking over the list closely he saw that Kaiba made second, Ryou third, Malik sixth, and Jou came in eleventh. That had to be the best he had ever done like ever.
When they caught up to him, he hugged Jou in congrats, which the others joined in on, tackling the blond to the ground. After he had pushed them all off and checked the list he whooped and jumped for joy. He was just as excited as them that he had made it so high on the list. It wasn't the top ten, but it was the top 20, that was good enough for him.
"So, Yugi darling, how did you do?" a sickly sweet voice asked as arms wrapped around his middle.
"I'd thought you'd given up?" Yugi asked trying to wheedle himself out of her grasp.
"Oh no, you're too cute to give up on. I simply had to re-group and think through my plan of obtaining you better." Anzu said in a whiny voice.
Ugh, Atem! Yami! Get her off of me!
"You again." Atem sighed plucking her off of Yugi as if she weighed no more than dandelion fluff. Which to a vampire she probably did.
"Where are your friends?" Yami asked in a bored tone.
"They're not my friends, they've been become my enemies over the past couple of months. They're the reason my Yugi-pie and I haven't been able to spend time together. But I know why they've kept us apart, it's so they can him to themselves." Anzu said crossing her arms even though she was still hanging above the ground.
"Oh yes, I'm sure that's the reason." Ryou said rolling her eyes.
"I mean it couldn't have anything to do with the fact the Seto is paying them to keep you away from us, no not at all." Jou said sarcastically.
"What? He's paying them? Oh, let go of me you stupid vampire!" Anzu said kicking Atem in a not so nice spot with the heel of her shoe. Atem dropped her, grabbing his crotch in agony.
"Are you okay, Atem?" Yugi asked dropping to his knees in front of him.
"Girls got a good kick." He muttered eyes bulging.
"Oh, the indignity of it all. My own friends accepting bribe money to keep us apart. Don't they know that's my job?" Anzu ranted as she stomped off around the corner.
"What do you think she meant by that?" Marik asked tilting his head slightly.
"No idea." Yami said shaking his head.
"Poor Temmy, it's okay Yugi's here. I'll hold you till its all better." Yugi said in a babying voice forcing Atem's head onto his chest and rubbing his back. Yami looked down and started to snicker into his hand.
"Yugi?"
"Yes, Temmy?"
"It's all better." Atem growled.
"Well, I'll hold you anyway." Yugi said still coddling him.
Riiiiiing! Riiiiiiing! Riiiiiiiing!
"Oh no, the bell, come on, we need to get to first period!" Yugi said jumping up and somehow hauling Atem up with him and running off leaving Yami behind.
"Well, I feel abandoned." Yami muttered.
"We'll see you in gym, Ami.*" Marik said before running off.
"Hey! Only Yugi can call me that!" Yami yelled after him. Laughter was his response.
[Time skip]
"Sports just aren't my thing." Yugi said as he ducked another incoming ball and consequently letting it get into the goal.
"Well, you could try to block one." one of his team mates complained.
"I told you, I'm not a good goalie!" Yugi said back.
"You're an even worse player!" Greg yelled back in frustration.
"Yeah…you got me there." Yugi said nodding.
"Just one, Yugi, just block one, and we'll get off your back, okay?" Greg bargained.
"Fine, I'll try." Yugi said biting his lip as the opposing team came towards them again. They kicked the ball, Yugi jumped up to block it with his hands, and the next thing he knew he was seeing stars.
"Well, you blocked it." Greg said grimacing as he leaned over him.
"Did I get an A on the test, Sensei?" Yugi asked.
"Yeah, Yugi, you get an A." Greg said looking apprehensively over at another field that held his vampires. They separated the supernaturals from the humans so there wouldn't be any major injuries.
"Come on, let's get him off the field before they notice." Emily said as she called Howard over to assist Greg.
"Good idea, hey Edward, you're in the weight lifting club do you think you can get him to the infirmary?" Howard asked stopping Greg from trying to lift him up.
"No problem, but what about his mates? Do you think we should tell them?" Edward asked looking over at their field apprehensively. They still hadn't noticed and that may be due to the fact that a fight had broken out on their field over something or another.
"Probably, but do you want to get into the middle of that?" Sierra asked pointing to a big blob that looked like a mess of limbs to their human eyes.
"We should wait until they calm down." Greg said nodding.
"Agreed." All the humans on the field said.
"Come, on Yugi, up you get." Edward said lifting him up as if he weighed no more than a sack of potatoes.
"Where are we going?" Yugi asked.
"To the infirmary." Edward answered.
"Did I get injured?"
"A little."
"Edward! Heads up!" Nathan shouted behind him.
"Huh?" he asked before his arms were empty and he was lifted up by his throat.
"Where do you think you're going with our mate?" Atem asked in his scary voice.
"Uh…can't…breathe." Edward gasped out.
"Answer me!" Atem hissed at him.
"The infirmary! I blocked the ball!" Yugi said excitedly from Yami's arms.
"What?" Atem said loosening his grip on Edward and lowering him to the ground as he turned to Yugi. Edward shoved off the loose grip, taking in coughing and wheezy breaths.
"I blocked the ball, but I think I used my head to do it?" Yugi asked Edward who just nodded as he was still trying to get his breath back.
"But, hey at least I blocked it!" Yugi said smiling brightly. Edward let out a hesitant laugh.
"What's so funny?" Atem asked glaring down at him.
"It's like he's his old self again…always looking for that silver lining." Edward said smiling softly.
"Hmm, it's just a small bump, nothing too bad." Yami said looking at his forehead.
"We'll have Isis look it over when we get home." Atem said confidently.
"So…what was the fight about?" Edward asked.
"Apparently a werewolf's girlfriend was dating a vampire behind his back, and the two got into a fight over her. While the girl just stood on the sidelines watching with a look of love. Though, who the love was for no one knew." Atem sighed.
"So I take it you two didn't get involved?" Edward asked looking at their clean uniforms.
"No." Yami said.
"Oh, we weren't sure if you were part of that blob of limbs so we just thought we'd take him to the infirmary and tell you about it later. None of us wanted to get into the middle of that." Edward said getting up and dusting himself off.
"Next time just yell. We'll hear you." Atem sighed shaking his head.
"Information noted, so Gavin finally learned that Makayla is cheating on him with Jordan? Dude, everyone has known that for six months. She didn't want to give up Jordan, but she didn't want to break it off with Gavin either. Neither boy knew about the other. Well, I suppose that's no longer true anymore." Edward said before walking off back to the field.
"Why is high school a place to covet drama in? Forget soap operas, just go to high school." Yami said shaking his head and getting a firmer grip on Yugi who was trying to get out of his arms.
"Put me down." Yugi complained.
"No, I like holding you, remember?" Yami asked looking down at him.
"Well, I don't, remember that?" Yugi asked glaring up at him.
"Hey, you said you liked it." Atem said raising an eyebrow at him.
"I changed my mind. I find it embarrassing again." Yugi said crossing his arms and pouting.
"Hey, no pouting." Atem said kissing his pouting lip.
"Then put me down, I mean we have to get to our next class soon." Yugi groaned out.
"Don't worry we have no problem carrying you there." Yami said kissing his forehead.
"I know, that's the problem. Please put me down." Yugi whined.
"Ha ha ha, put him down, Yami." Atem said looking away back towards the fields and their friends who were rushing over to them.
"Oh Kami, are you okay, Yugi?" Jou asked.
"Yeah, you took that ball full in the face." Ryou said shaking his head.
"Greg said to block it, not kill yourself while doing so." Malik teased.
"Funny." Yugi grimaced as Yami set him on his feet. He stumbled a bit but caught his balance with a little assistance.
"Is this day over yet? I just want to go home and crash in my big soft bed." Marik said leaning on Seth. The two looked a little worse for wear with their ripped clothing and already healing bleeding cuts and bruises.
"You guys didn't actually try to break up that fight, did you?" Yugi asked raising his eyebrows at hem.
"It's impossible to ignore a direct firm order from our King." Seth said glaring at Atem who was looking anywhere but at them.
"Oh, you poor things, do you need a hug?" Yugi asked.
"Pfft, not from you, but I'll gladly take one from Malik." Marik snorted grabbing the boy and holding him close. Malik looked like a cat that was desperately trying to get away. Yugi, Jou, and Ryou laughed at him offering no assistance.
"Guys, come on help me out." Malik moaned trying to get out of Marik's arms.
"Okay." Yugi said grabbing his wrists. Ryou grabbed him and Jou grabbed Ryou, they tugged, barely using any muscle to try to get their friend loose.
"Sorry Malik, but it would appear we just aren't strong enough to free you." Yugi said shrugging.
"You didn't even put any effort into it!" Malik complained.
"But we're such weak and fragile ukes, we could break a limb if we try too hard." Yugi said batting his eyelashes at him while pouting. Jou and Ryou roared with laughter.
"Don't throw my words back at me, Yugi!" Malik shouted at him.
"Why not? You do it to us all the time?" Yugi asked smiling.
"When did he ever say that?" Yami asked frowning.
"When Ryou was being held captive by Bakura once, when they first started following him around like love sick puppies, err wolves." Yugi explained leaning back to look at him, and apparently too far as he lost his balance and fell down.
"Oh, so before you met us?" Atem asked helping him up.
"Exactly!"
Riiiing! Riiiiiing! Riiiiiiing!
"Ack! The bell! Come on, we need to move it! We still have to change out of our gym uniforms!" Ryou said freaking out.
"Yeah, we can't be late for any of our classes, that would be a horrible start to the week." Yugi added.
"Because it's not like you haven't missed enough of them, right?" Jou asked.
"Shut up." Yugi said elbowing him in good humor.
"Guys! What about me!?" Malik wailed at them from Marik's arms. They never turned around just kept on walking.
"I feel abandoned." Malik said slumping in his arms.
"Don't worry I know ways to make you feel better." Marik whispered in his ear.
"GUYS!"
[Time skip]
Yugi sighed, dramatically flopping onto the bed. Atem and Yami just shook their heads at him. Why did the day have to be so stressful? And why did they teachers feel the need to dump a mountain of schoolwork on them in every class. He was going to be stuck at his desk all week. Oh well, might as well get started, nothing was going to get done by just laying on the bed.
Yugi grabbed his backpack, and lugged it over to his desk where he organized his work from most to least. Pulling his Physics homework towards him, he started to get to work. Already knowing it was going to be a long, long night.
[Time skip]
Yugi yawned as he heard Yami and Atem come back into the room. They had left for a meeting earlier. Yugi had stayed behind so he could make headway on his work. He glanced at them before going back to his last Physics problem.
"Come on, Yugi, bed time." Yami coaxed pulling the book away from him.
"I only have the one problem left." Yugi yawned trying to get the book back.
"It's two am, you'll finish it later. Come on, bed time." Yami said taking his pencil from him too.
"Okay." Yugi conceded wrapping his arms around Yami's neck and allowing him to lift him up out of his chair. Yami carried him over to the bed, took of his shoes and jacket and tucked him into bed. He was out like a light in seconds.
He felt as if he had only just closed his eyes, and when he opened them, it was December already. That's how fast time seemed to fly by. Yugi yawned sitting up, and looking out the balcony to see it was snowing.
He smiled, sneaking out of the bed, he tiptoed towards the balcony, and opened the doors. Slipping out in his pajamas, he grabbed a handful of snow off the railing and made two separate snowballs. Sneaking back in, he proceeded to throw them at his mates waking them up with a shocked yell.
Yugi laughed before skipping into the bathroom, and locking the door. He heard a thump against it, making him wince slightly. He bit his lip before doing his business, washing his hands, brushing his teeth and hair and opening the door.
"Was that really necessary?" Yami asked.
"Yes!" Yugi said grinning.
"Why?" Atem asked shaking melting snow clumps out of his hair.
"Because it's the first snow fall, which also means I have to wear that jacket that Sakura dropped off in the last week of November. I hate that jacket; it makes me look like a snowball." Yugi said pouting.
"Oh, it can't be that bad." Yami waved off. Yugi just sighed and headed into the closet. He came out fully clothed, jacket, scarf, hat, gloves, and boots included. Atem and Yami took him in in one blink, and clapped their hands over their mouths to prevent themselves from laughing. Once they seemed to have some measure of control over their laughter they spoke.
"Uh, we'll get you a new jacket today after school." Atem said in a strained voice.
"Yeah, there's no way we can let you walk around in that." Yami added also in a strained voice. Yugi rolled his eyes, before sighing, grabbing his backpack and walking past them down the stairway.
"Go ahead, let it out, I'm used to it anyway." Yugi said as he swung the bag over his shoulder.
"You look like a cotton ball." Yami snorted.
"Yugi, you need to eat." Atem said with more dignity.
"Oh, I thought I would go without the drug the today."
"That's fine, but you still need to eat."
"Oh, I plan to, just at Grandpa's. I promised him I would stop by for breakfast this morning."
"When?" Yami asked.
"Last night, on the phone, when he called?" Yugi asked more than told.
"Oh yes, that's right. He ruined the mood for fun time again." Atem muttered.
"I swear that man has a sensor for when we're about to have sex, and decides that now would be the best time for him to call." Yami said sweeping Yugi up into his arms.
"Hey! Put me down!"
"I can't help it, you just look so cuddly in this jacket." Yami cooed nuzzling his cheek against Yugi's.
"Ugh."
[Time skip]
"I see, so that's what's been going on. Okay, no, just make sure the shipment actually gets here. I'm running out of cards to sell to these young things. Alright, bye! Yugi! You're here!" Grandpa said hanging up the phone and turning to them.
"Yeah, could I get a little help?" Yugi asked from his position in Yami's arms.
"I'll go get the broom." Mutou Senior said.
"Uh, no need, I'm putting him down." Yami said putting him back on his feet.
"Well, you just go into the kitchen and eat with your sister. I need to talk to the vampires about adult private stuff, run along." Grandpa said giving him a small push up into the kitchen.
"Still treats me like a kid." Yugi grumbled to which he heard his vampires laugh about.
"Baby brother! It's been years!" Sakura cried as soon as she saw him engulfing him in a hug.
"It's been two weeks." Yugi grumbled.
"Well, now that you're here, I must tell you something important."
"What?"
"You're being stalked by two different unknown vampires. I've tried to dispose of them, but every time I get close they vanish." Sakura said in a hushed whisper.
"Me? Being stalked by two unknown vampires? You don't say?" Yugi asked back sarcastically.
"You already know?" Sakura asked a little put out.
"Well, yeah, Atem caught the culprits yesterday." Yugi said rubbing the back of his head as he started to tell her about it.
[Flashback]
"Atem, stop." Yami said grabbing his arm.
"What?"
"You can't tell me you didn't smell that?" Yami asked in disbelief.
"Oh you mean the rogue mixed with another's scent that just seemed to vanish a second ago?" Atem asked.
"Yugi, head back." Yami ordered.
"No, I have a better idea. Its okay, Lance, you can come out!" Yugi called out to the woods.
"Who's Lance?" Atem asked with narrowed eyes.
"You'll see." Yugi said confidently.
"Actually, it's Aristotle." He said suddenly appearing in front of them.
"Oh, where's Lance?" Yugi asked.
"Sleeping."
"What do you want?" Yami asked stepping in front of Yugi.
"To help, err, well Kelly does. You see first she sympathized with Dartz, until she found out that it wasn't Yugi who killed his mate, it was Akeifa. Her sympathy dried up like the rain in the desert. She had a mate once that was killed by a human Vampire Hunter, she killed him of course, but it didn't get rid of the pain and most certainly didn't bring back her lover. So anyway, she's been going around to each one of Dartz's supporters, the ones that have been helping him get rogues into the city undetected, and telling them the truth. She's ashamed to admit to being a part of that. They've been leaving him one by one, that's why there have been fewer rogues in the city, fewer supporters." Aristotle explained.
"So you've been…?" Atem trailed off trying to understand.
"Killing rogues twenty feet out, that one slipped through my grasp as I was dealing with his comrades. I still got him though, only fifteen feet in. My lady will be very ashamed." Aristotle said hanging his head.
"Awww, it's okay. The important thing to remember is that you got him." Yugi said dodging around Yami to give him a hug. Yami frowned and grabbing him by the back of his jacket yanked him back.
"Yes, I suppose that is the important part." Aristotle said smirking and with a deep bow vanished.
"Interesting. Come on, we need to get him to school." Atem said giving Yami a soft push.
"That's it?" Yami asked.
"He's done nothing to warrant my wrath, only my thanks." Atem answered.
"But…" Yami trailed off.
"Come along we need to get to school before…WE'RE LATE!" Yugi said looking down at his watch his eyes widening at the time.
"Calm down, Yugi." Yami said easily keeping pace with him as he ran.
"They've already closed the gates!" Yugi yelled at him before taking off at a speed that was quite fast…for a human.
[End flashback]
"So, you were late for school yesterday?" Sakura asked as she ate some more pancake.
"They threw me over the gate!" Yugi exclaimed in a mortified.
"They…VAMPIRES!" Sakura charged out into the living room to give them a piece of her mind.
"Ha ha ha, perfect. Now I can get my other jacket and get out of here." Yugi said putting his last piece of waffle in his mouth and went upstairs to his room. He discarded the big feather down white puffy jacket, and traded it in for his magenta fur lining one. It was slim and fit him perfectly. Sighing in happiness, Yugi made his way back downstairs to see Atem trying to reason with his sister.
"I already told you, you crazy person. I was on the other side of the gate ready to catch him after Yami tossed him over. It's not like we just flung him over the fence without a care in the world if he landed on his face."
"Bye, Grandpa, thanks for breakfast." Yugi said kissing him on the cheek.
"Bye, Yugi, have fun in school."
"I doubt it, but thanks for the encouragement." Yugi said waving at the top of the stairs.
"And that's another thing. Would you keep that slimy, disgusting, looks-like-the-dark-magician, Vampire Mahad away from our house? I swear everywhere I am, he is too. It's annoying and I can't get any of my assignments done with a lecherous vampire always hanging on tail." Sakura said a highly annoyed voice.
"He's what?" Yami asked confused. Yugi shrugged, this had nothing to do with him. He'd let them deal with it. He walked down the stairs and out the door and headed off to school.
[Time skip]
"So, did you get it out of them yet?" Ryou asked swinging his legs from his position in the tree.
"Are you kidding. They said and I quote 'tell us where you're planning to sneak off to, and we'll tell you what it's called.' So annoying. I just wish someone would create a book with every side effect in it and then sell it." Yugi sighed up to him. It was lunch time and they were being stupid and eating out in the snow, since no one was really there to stop them.
"Well, why not make a name up for it?" Malik asked twirling one of Yugi's bangs around on his finger, since his head was in his lap.
"Temporal amnesia?" Yugi suggested.
"Works for me."
"Seconded." Ryou said.
"What are you doing in the snow, and his lap?"
"Yami!"
"Nice of you to show up." Malik said in a snide voice.
"We're cuddling for warmth." Yugi said placing himself properly in Malik's lap and hugging him.
"Tch." Yami said turning his head away.
"Hey! What do you call this!?" Marik asked appearing next to Yami.
"Preserving heat." Malik answered.
"Where've you guys been anyway?" Yugi asked.
"Tracking Mahad." Yami answered crossing his arms.
"Why? He's just making sure that she doesn't harm you two." Yugi said uneasily even though even he didn't really believe that excuse when he was first told it.
"No, the way Sakura described what Mahad is doing, it's more serious than that. More like he's stalking her…like prey." Yami said frowning, his eyes sliding out of focus. Yugi shot up out of Malik's lap.
"You mean he wants to bite her?" Yugi asked fear eclipsing his voice.
"Yes, that's the way it sounds." Marik nodded.
"No! He can't! If he does that he'll be sentencing my sister to death! If any other Vampire Hunter finds out that another has been bitten by a vampire then they're supposed to report it to the Head of their Organization. Then the bitten Hunter will be executed in front of their family and the vampire that bit them. The punishment is the same if a Hunter is in a relationship with a vampire. Please, please don't let him bite my sister, please." Yugi begged grasping Yami's jacket and pulling him down to his eye level. Tears swam in his eyes, threatening to spill.
"We won't Yugi, we won't. We'll do everything within our power to stop that from happening, I promise." Yami said drawing him into a hug even though Yugi could feel fear pulsing from him like a bass beat.
Atem…
What's wrong?
Please tell me you've found him.
Yes, I've found him.
K-keep him from Sakura, please. Until we can figure out what to do about this, just keep him from her.
What's going on?
Yugi just told me what happens if a vampire bites a Hunter, which explains Sakura's fear.
What…happens?
They're executed.
Oh, Ra…
He's bitten her already hasn't…he?
No, of course not, but he's gotten close. We won't let him, we won't.
Okay…okay. Thank you, for protecting my sister. I know how much you both dislike her, so thank you. It means the world to me.
Anything for you, Yugi. We love you, we'll protect everything you love too.
Yugi felt his heart turn to mush at those words. He still felt ashamed that he couldn't say it back though. His shame turned to tears which he released into Yami's jacket. Yami didn't say a word just rubbed his back, and let him cry.
They stayed like that for a few minutes until Yugi's sobs stopped, and his tears dried up. He wiped his nose and looked at Yami's wet shirt, which was when he realized that he wasn't wearing a jacket. Or any type of protection from the cold. Yugi blinked, could a vampire get hypothermia?
No Yugi, we can't get hypothermia.
Oh, well that's good, because I just soaked Yami's shirt in my tears.
Hmm.
"Come on, the bells going to ring soon, we should get you guys back inside." Yami said to fill the awkward silence.
"Uh yeah, that sounds good." Yugi said nodding as Ryou hopped down from the tree.
"Finally, my hands are cold, and my face frozen." Ryou said rubbing his hands together.
"Then why didn't you say anything?" Malik asked standing up.
"Because I figured we wouldn't stay out here as long as we did."
"You should never assume things, Ryou."
"I know, but sometimes it can't be helped."
"Sure it can, you just need to speak up." Yugi said shoving his hands into his coat pockets.
"Uh, Yugi, where did you get that coat?" Yami asked.
"From Grandpa's. You didn't honestly think I had only one coat, did you?" Yugi asked looking back at him.
"Uh…"
"You should really leave the assumptions to them, they're good at it." Yugi whispered to Ryou making him smile.
"Okay, so let's do a rundown of what we need to do next week when we're off." Malik suggested as they walked into the building.
"Christmas shopping." Ryou said.
"Obviously, make Heba feel unwelcomed." Yugi added.
"No, that's just on your list, Yugi. Um, go to that candy place." Malik said shaking his head.
"Oh, and we can't forget about the elves this week." Ryou put in.
"Oh right, the candy cane sales." Yugi said glancing back at Yami who had a confused expression on his face.
"What are these candy cane sales?" Yami asked Marik.
"Oh, just something they apparently do every year. It's really no big deal."
"You sure? Yugi keeps bringing it up."
"Yeah, I mean as long as you don't forget about them, you should be fine."
"Alright, though with Yugi mentioning it at least five times a day, I don't think we'll be forgetting about them."
"Malik did the same to me last year. They get pretty into it, so don't forget."
"I'm pretty sure that's an impossible thing to do."
[Time skip]
"Well, you're not allowed to see it yet." Yugi complained from inside the closet.
"Why not?" Atem asked.
"Because I want it to be a surprise."
"Come on Yugi, just come out of the closet, we need to get to school." Yami attempted to coax.
"You guys go ahead, I'll meet you there."
"No, you'll go with us." Atem said back sternly.
"But you'll see it, shoes and all."
"So we'll close our eyes."
"All the way to school?"
"Well, no, of course not." Yami replied.
"How about you guys walk ahead of me, that way I know you won't see my outfit before class." Yugi suggested.
"Walk ahead of you?"
"Yeah!"
"Fine, just come out of the closet."
"Are your backs turned?"
"No." Atem replied.
"Well, turn around."
"Yugi, you're being ridiculous."
"Turn around."
"Fine, come on Atem, just turn around." Yami said sounding as if he was making Atem turn.
"Okay, our backs are turned."
Yugi poked his head out of the closet to see them turned around. He grabbed his jacket and put it on, before opening the door all the way and walking out. Zipping up his jacket he waited for them to start moving forward. They didn't just stood there, looking straight ahead.
"Well, start walking." Yugi said albeit rudely.
"Come on." Yami said grabbing Atem's bicep and dragging him forward.
That was how most of the population found them. Two vampires walking ahead of the human. An unusual sight by vampire standards, but still somewhat amusing. Yugi didn't say a word as he ducked into a classroom to see Malik, Jou, and Ryou waiting for him. It seemed they were the last bunch to head out.
Okay, you can turn around now!
What? Where did you go?
To join my fellow elves.
Your what?
Elves! Geez, don't you listen?
So we'll see you in class?
Uh huh!
Alright, come on, Atem.
But he just vanished, Yami!
We'll get him later for it.
I'd rather get him now.
Come on.
"I'm in trouble." Yugi said.
"No, it's your mates who are in trouble." Malik said back looking down at something.
"Why? What did they do?" Yugi asked walking over.
"More like what they didn't do." Jou said shaking his head.
"I mean you did drop the right hints about the candy cane sales, right?" Ryou asked looking at him as he stopped next to them.
"Well, I mentioned them enough. And I know I reminded them to the point of annoyance yesterday, why?" Yugi asked in confusion.
"Because you're two short, and they're one short each." Jou said pointing the piles.
"So they didn't buy any, no big deal." Yugi said in a strained voice.
"You're not upset?" Ryou asked.
"They're just candy canes." Yugi said shrugging.
"Wow, you're taking this a lot better than we thought you would." Malik said in and impressed tone.
"Right, so we should start handing them out." Yugi said scooping up two rooms worth of candy canes and shoving them in a stocking.
"Alright then." Jou said as the rest of them scooped up two rooms each and they all went their separate ways to deliver them. Yugi hastened towards study hall.
"But I need him. He's brilliant when it comes to this math stuff." Tony whined as Yugi opened the door. He walked in and saw his mates' jaws drop. Not that he could blame them. He was wearing a green hat, green costume, striped green and white stockings, elf shoes, and tips for his ears. He looked, according to his classmates, adorable.
He walked around the room handing out candy canes with a great big smile, until he got to his mates. The smile turned false, and he made a show of digging around and grabbing the wrong candy canes from the stocking and pulling them out. Finally he grabbed the right ones, and pulled them out.
"Oh, here they are! Okay, we have one for you, and one for you." Yugi said handing them their candy canes which they took hesitantly.
"One? Shouldn't they both have at least two?" Tony asked.
"Yes, they should. But we couldn't find them. Oh, well, what's a candy cane really, besides a short snack? Well, I need to go deliver the other candy canes to Home Economics." Yugi said in a false cheerful voice as Atem and Yami just sat there staring with horror at their one candy cane.
"Oooo, you guys are in trouble. With as many times as he mentioned the candy cane sales, I'm surprised you didn't catch on." Tony said before the door had shut all the way.
Yugi walked to the next classroom, and handed out the candy canes. He then walked back to the first room, took his own candy canes out of the stalking and returned the stocking. He walked back to the room, and sat down in his chair across from Atem and Yami.
"Look, Marik said that the candy cane things were no big deal." Atem said immediately.
"He also said they get really into it." Yami added grimacing. Atem just groaned, dropping his head into his hand.
"It's okay, I'm not angry." Yugi said grinning at them.
"You're not?" they asked together looking at him in disbelief.
"No, I mean it's just a candy cane, it's no big deal." Yugi said waving it off.
"O-oh, well okay then." Yami said frowning. Yugi grinned back at him.
"You're sure you're not upset?" Atem asked giving him an apprehensive look.
"Mmhmm." Yugi nodded.
"Alright then." Atem muttered like he still didn't believe him.
"I swear, Atem, I'm not upset." Yugi said leaning forward to place a hand on his knee.
"So you keep saying."
"Why don't you just believe me?" Yugi sighed getting up as it was time for them to head to their next class.
"Because you usually get upset over the small things." Yami muttered back.
"Not this time, I have no reason to be upset." Yugi said turning back to them at the door his eyes twinkling with a hidden amusement. He saw Atem and Yami frown, before he turned and walked towards their next class.
[Time skip]
"Why? Why did you let him help?" Kukku Sensei asked.
"The task seemed easy. All he had to do was scramble the eggs with a whisk." Yami said back.
"He can't even handle a flour sifter, and you think he can handle a whisk?"
"Well, when you put it like that…"
"Most of the eggs stayed in the bowl when I was bumped though." Yugi butt in.
"You call this most?" she asked as she held out his nearly empty bowl.
"Well, considering there was only two, yeah." Yugi said nodding.
"Don't let him touch anything else, understand?" Kukku Sensei asked as she turned and walked away. Yugi glanced up at her back, where the other part of his bowl was now residing.
"You're just a little accident maker in the kitchen, aren't you, Yugi?" Atem asked shaking his head. He shrugged pushing the bowl away from the edge, and laying his head down on his arms on the counter.
"Hey, at least you didn't get any on this delectable outfit." Yami whispered in his ear. Yugi rolled his eyes, turning his head away.
"When we get home, we'll find lots of ways to turn your frown into a moaning smile." Atem added when Yami's trick didn't seem to work. That did it; Yugi blushed crimson at the suggestion, hiding his face in his arms. They chuckled, going back to making a pumpkin pie, which is what they were doing today.
They didn't stop either. All day they made innuendos about his costume. Yugi's blush became a permanent color on his face. So by the end of the day he was grabbing his bag, and walking quickly from the room, head down. When he came to the gates he crashed right into someone, and would have fallen backwards if one of his vampires hadn't caught him before he could hit the ground.
Yugi looked around to see who he had crashed in to, only to see a familiar head of tricolored hair. Yugi blinked, thinking it was impossible as they stood up, brushing snow from their pants. But no, when they looked up, Yugi could have been looking in a mirror, except their eyes were lavender and was slightly taller than him.
"Hey cousin, I hope you don't mind, but I'm a week early." Heba said grinning.
A little shorter than you're used to, but I'll make up for it in the next chapter. Oh right, this * is because Marik called him Amy. And enter Heba, the person ya'll couldn't wait to meet. I hope you hate him by the end of next chapter. I'm already having fun typing it up. However, it is really late now, or early, depending on how you look at it and I need to get to bed.
