Rayne's Point of View
I could hear grunting and talking ahead of us but figured it was just Bellamy and Finn talking. Murphy was a few feet behind me with Sterling and Monroe following slowly behind him watching our backs. Finn soon slowed down again of us causing the group to kneel down to discuss what were where going to do next.
"We don't have time to stop let's go." Bellamy quickly said picking up the pace moving ahead of us.
"Bellamy, stop we need a plan." I half shouted to him, trying to keep my voice down at the same time as getting his attention.
I went ahead of Bellamy trying to get him to stop moving so he would listen to reason, and come up with a better plan than just rushing in guns blasting. "Everybody down." I heard Murphy say as he rushed at Bellamy and I grabbing us both by the shoulders pushing us behind a fallen log.
"Get down." He said again nearly causing Bellamy to hit him for touching him.
I looked at what was in front of us with wide eyes, trying to take in the view that was before me. The trees and the moss seemed to be covering some tracks and small vehicles. The grounders had built pathways and bridges all over the collapsed piece of history. I was so entranced by this marvel. I had never seen anything like it anywhere in the books or pictures we had up on the Ark.
"This is it." Murphy said pulling me out of the trance I was in.
"Told you I'd find it." Murphy said facing Bellamy, with me on his other side. "We need to be careful, Bells." I said quietly.
Bellamy ignored what I said and lifted the gun up to look around the base through his scope to try and see if he could find anything. I turned and noticed Finn and Sterling where doing the same thing. Monroe was off to the side keeping a look out for any incoming grounders.
I turned to Murphy, "What is this place? Like before a grounder torture house." I questioned.
"Not sure, there where things with smiley faces on them everywhere… so it must have been a place of joy and happiness before they turned it into a place of misery." He shrugged.
"Seems like a grounder thing to do…" I said letting out a sigh.
"See nothing but grounders." Bellamy quipped. "Our people aren't here." He said lowering his gun.
"Wait a minuet." Finn said eagerly, as Bellamy, Murphy and I turned to look at him. "They've got stuff from our drop ship."
Bellamy lifted his gun up to see what Finn was talking about. "So, maybe they know where our friends are."
"Or maybe they killed them already." Murphy commented.
I nudged him hard in the gut. "Don't say things like that."
"Son of a bi-ch" Finn growled.
"What is it?" Bellamy asked confused.
"The guy with the one eye." Finn answered, "Around his neck."
"What am I looking at?" Bellamy asked still confused.
Finn put the gun down turning to look at Bellamy. "He's got Clarke's watch." He once again growled out.
"It was her father's." I commented to the boys.
"Got that right," Finn said.
"She wouldn't give that up without a fight." Bellamy nodded.
"Neither will we." Finn said his voice cold and emotionless. I hated to admit it but Finn was starting to freak me out, the way he talked, how cold he was becoming towards anyone standing in the way of finding Clarke.
It seemed more like he was looking for her than, looking for everyone like the rest of us were doing. Finn just seemed to have only one line of sight and it was for Clarke. Which I understood he had feelings for her and I would want the same thing had it been Bellamy that had gone missing. But the coldness he was portraying was just scary.
"Ok. You're with me." Bellamy said to Finn. "You two stay here, out of sight. This thing goes south; take out the other grounders, but don't shoot the grounder with the watch. Copy?"
"Copy." Monroe said nodding, "Copy." Sterling said moving around so he was closer to Monroe.
"Bells, what about Murphy and I?" I asked him curiously.
"Yea, do I get a gun now?" Murphy asked sarcastically.
"Something like that." Bellamy said. "You come with me, Rayne stay here."
I held up my gun watching them from the distance making sure they where ok. Watching to make sure the grounders didn't notice them walk into their camp. Murphy took cover behind a tree picking up two rocks as Bellamy hid in some brush out of sight, along with Finn not to far away.
The grounder with the one eye began to walk towards the tree where the boys where hidden; probably investigating whatever it was that Murphy was doing. "This is stupid." Sterling commented. "Like it's a really bad idea."
I looked over at Monroe who looked like she was ignoring him, or his comments. "It's only a bad idea if we fail and don't work as a team." I commented.
"She's right, just keep a look out." Monroe agreed with me.
The grounder began to look around the area trying to figure out where it was that the sound was coming from. Bellamy stood up from the brush knocking the grounder in the side of the head with the butt of his gun. Finn and Murphy rushed out of hiding to help Bellamy pull the grounder away and towards where we were all hiding.
Kane's Point of View
I stood there watching Abby attend to one of our people who had a head wound from when the Ark had hit the ground. I didn't know what to do and having the Major constantly at my back about sending out search teams to bring the kids back to be punished for their crimes wasn't helping.
I knew Abby had to be punished for helping the boys escape and giving the kids weapons. I just didn't know what to do; she was my friend, an important part of this community. I could put her on watch that would help but I know it wouldn't satisfy any members of the guard. Least of all the Major, she would tell me about how I am Chancellor and I need to keep order.
"You sent for me, Sir?" The Major asked as she approached me.
"Dr. Griffin has confessed to helping those boys escape and giving them guns. She's to be supervised at all times and confined to quarters when not at work. Is that clear?" I explained to her.
She stood there taking in a deep breath; clearly unhappy with something I had said or not said to her. "What is it, Major? Spit it out."
"Unauthorized use of firearms and aiding and abetting a prison escape are felonies. The exodus charter is clear. The punishment is shock lashing." She said. "I know she's your friend…" She began to say.
"She's not just my friend. She's a former member of the council and the most respected person in this camp." I informed her as I once again turned my attention back to Abby as she stood there helping a new patient that sat at her table.
"Yes, Sir, which is why it will work as a deterrent." Something told me she enjoyed the thought of someone, mainly Abby being punished. It was abundantly clear of that motive. Which only made me think it was good we weren't sending anyone out to look for the kids. All I needed was her telling me how Rayne needed to be shock lashed for leaving the camp.
"On the Ark, we had to be ruthless, uncompromising. Our hand was always forced. But down here… we have a chance to start over. Make something better."
"I hope that day will come, Sir. But if we lose control of this camp—" She started to say. "And we're on the knife's edge already—we wont live long enough to have that chance." She continued.
"Grab somebody…" I heard someone shout.
"A patrol the grounder prisoner." She said as the two of us headed towards where the large crowd was beginning to grow. "They're bringing him in now."
"Let that man through!" I yelled as I began to run towards where everyone was had begun to crowd the grounder and the guards as they began to enter the camp.
"No one is to touch him! Stand back!" I shouted again.
"They have my son! They have my son!" One man began to yell over the crowd.
"Where is my son? Where is my son?" I could hear the same voice call out causing me to look around trying to figure out where it came from. These people had a right to know where their children where; but violence against the one person who could help us was not the way to go about getting the answers we wanted.
I heard a gun shot go off causing most of the crowd to stop moving and back away from where the grounder was. Others still continued to climb at the man in shackles. "Medic! We need a medic here!"
There was a man laying on the ground with a guard kneeling over top of him once the Major and I had finally reached him. There where so many thoughts flooding my mind all at once. Did the guard shoot him to scare off the crowd?
"What the hell happened?" I snapped the moment I reached the men with now a few other guards around.
"He went for my weapon. Kept saying the grounders have his son. The gun just went off." The guard explained as Abby approached my left.
"Get him to medical now." Abby said aggressively.
A ground of five men, two being guards lifted up the injured man and began to walk him towards the medical tent that we had set up for Abby, and the medical team that had survived. She looked over at me angrily before storming off along side the men heading towards the medical tent.
The major looked at me shaking her head, "The knife's edge, Sir."
Ignoring her for a moment, I looked at the guards with the grounder and pointed towards the ship. "Take the prisoner inside." I ordered them.
"Go! Everybody stay back. Stand back!" The major began to order the people of the Ark as the soldiers pulled the grounder towards the large mass of metal and wires sitting on the edge of their forest.
This was going to be a long day, and I could almost guarantee that it wasn't over yet. The majors attempts to see Abby punished where not through. Why was she so head strong on keeping the violent traditions of the ways we used on the Ark? She knew we had no reason to be like that, not down here. We had a chance to rebuild ourselves and start over down here. We didn't need to punish people for having more than one child; we didn't have to condemn people to death, we didn't have to punish them for trying to survive.
Nova's Point of View
"So, curious." Monty asked me as he picked at his waffle.
Looking up at him with food stuffed in my mouth, I nodded to urge him to continue with his question. "When you where out there being a grounder and all did you, ever come across our camp… like your brother did?" He asked me.
I swallowed what was in my mouth hard, debating answering the question honestly. I was one of the people who initially began to harm them. Throwing the spear at Jasper, and tying him up in a tree in the blistering heat and all. I nodded slowly at first before answering him.
"Well I wouldn't say I came across your camp, as much as I would say that I came across some of your people in the woods. Some of my actions at the time may have been less than admirable." I told him popping a blue berry into my mouth.
"Really?" He asked. "You were one of the people that attacked us? I'm not upset, I mean that was you're job you where a warrior like your brother." He stated.
"It has been a long time since Lincoln has been considered a warrior. He is more or less a healer and a last line of defense. He spent most of his time drawing pictures, and exploring then he did protecting and hunting." I explained.
Popping another berry in my mouth I sighed; "But yes, I was among those who would constantly harassed your people. I never killed anyone no, but to say that I never injured anyone would be a lie." I sighed.
Monty lowered his head before taking the last bite off his plate. "Who did you hurt?" He asked me curiously.
"It was the day your people arrived, my people where terrified of what you might bring here, disease, hurt, death, they sent us to investigate you. Upon seeing you where just a large group of children much like myself and a few others in my tribe… we well followed the one group that left the camp. We saw they where headed towards the mountain… where these people are. We where always told to stay away from here, it is not safe." I explained lowering my voice.
"My people had a habit of vanishing after venturing to high up in the mountain. We saw your people heading this way and feared that it would make the mountain people take any anger out on us… we attacked. I may have been the one who threw the spear at your friend, and helped put him up in the tree." I said taking a deep breathe, feeling good that I told the truth but terrified still of what his response would be.
Monty looked at me arching his brow; "There is no way you threw that spear." He chuckled. I shook my head, if he wanted to believe that by all means. I would let him.
"Maybe not, but I could have you never know. I'm Nova, I am a warrior… a grounder." I laughed slightly.
"I'm Monty, I'm hungry, and from the sky!" He continued before standing up to go get seconds.
These people had such high spirits. It was amazing to see. Monty sat back down looking a lot more sullen this time than he had before. He looked up behind me his face sinking causing me to look behind me only to see Jasper standing there with a grin on his face.
"Nice to see you, too." Jasper said slowly.
"Sorry. I was hoping you were Clarke." Monty told him causing me to understand his recent sullen mood from when he had left for seconds to now.
"You two still haven't seen her?" Jasper asked.
"No." Monty and I said in unison.
"I don't think she slept in her bed last night." Monty began to say, I could tell them right now that she didn't she was with Anya finding a way to get out of here to bring our army.
Jasper sat down next to me looking just as concerned as Monty had been looking. I suppose the reality that his friend was probably gone completely was setting in. He looked over at me for a moment, "Wasn't she with you last?"
I nodded; "Yea but I am no magician, I don't know where she is." I lied.
"What do we do?" Monty asked.
"Maya has access to everything through her job. Maybe she could snoop around." Jasper asked. "If Clarke's in trouble, she can find out."
Maya wasn't like the others; she did have good in her. That much I could tell by the amount of times she saved me from becoming like my people locked in those cages. However if push came to shove, and she asked anyone about Clarke… those people would lie to her in an instant.
"I don't know." Monty said shaking his head, "Clarke doesn't trust them. What if she's right?"
"We can trust Maya." Jasper said solemnly. "At least, I think we can. Besides… what choice do we have?"
