Rayne's Point of View
"We're out of rope." I heard Finn tell Bellamy.
"So we make a new one."
"If anything happens to out friends, when we could—" Finn began to say before he was cut off by Bellamy.
"We don't know if we could save our friends." Bellamy yelled at him causing Murphy, Monroe and I to stop moving and look at the two guys who where screaming at each other.
I don't know why Finn couldn't just let us save her, saving her or not was never going to change the outcome nor the fate of our friends. There was a 50/50 odds on their survival anyway, and that was if they where even at the spot the grounder had sent us too. For all we know he sent us out this way to see this horrid display.
For all we knew the grounders didn't even have our people and they had continued towards the ocean like we where intending to that day anyway. Or maybe they where already dead, maybe they got lost and already made it back to the camp while we where out here. There was no way for sure to know where they where or what condition they where in. What we did know was that there was a girl hanging off the side of a cliff who needed us right now.
"For all we know, they may be dead already. We've all thought it, but what we do know is we could save this one girl." Bellamy said almost as if he where in my head.
"Sterling was one of us. She was his friend. I'm in." Monroe said.
"Clarke would have been the first one down the side of this cliff to save her; we owe it at least to her to show that we are not afraid to follow her lead." I said, "I'm in."
"How do we do it?" Murphy said turning to face them.
"We make new rope from the wreckage. Go find wires, seatbelts, anything." Bellamy told us as Murphy, and Monroe took off without me.
"Rayne, she's going to need medical attention when we get her up here… look around for anything you can use to help her. Chances are there's nothing but… you never know." He told me as I nodded rushing off into the other direction from Monroe and Murphy.
I began to scavenge around looking for anything strong enough that we could use to possibly use as a split for her arm or leg, if they are broken. There was no chance I was going to find any sort of medical stuff around here. All that seemed to be on the piece of the Ark that Abby and my father came down in. What I did find where a few crates with food, and some water packets.
I ran back with the small treasure trove I had managed to find placing them down next to the stump where we'd put all our back packs, and guns. Murphy and Monroe had managed to fasten together a bunch of belts and straps making what looked like a stronger rope.
Bellamy secured himself into the new rope, looping it around his leg. Finn wrapped it tightly around the stump, ordering us all to take our positions so that we could hold the rope and slowly lower Bellamy off the side of the cliff. Knowing what happened to Sterling, and knowing that could possibly also happen to Bellamy made my heart feel as though it was about to pop right out of my chest. I was terrified of the thought of losing him.
"Stay strong." Murphy whispered to me, "He'll be ok."
"Thank you." I whispered to him.
"All right. Ease it out slowly." Murphy then told the rest of us as he took lead in the front lowering Bellamy over the side of the cliff. I was behind him, than Finn followed by Monroe.
Once Bellamy was no longer visible to me, I could hear my heart beat. I could feel the panic. I was so scared something was going to happen to him. "Deep breath, Ray." Murphy said to me again, trying to calm me down.
"You being up here worrying about him isn't going to help him. You need to focus on holding on as tightly as you possibly can. Got me?" He said to me as I nodded, knowing he couldn't see my response.
Bellamy's weight was pulling us away from the stump and towards the edge of the cliff, "Keep calm." I heard Murphy tell me again.
"Just hang on, I'm almost there." I heard Bellamy's voice from below us.
We could tell when he had her with him on the rope because it almost completely pulled us off the edge with him. I could feel Finn and Murphy pulling backwards trying to even out the weight so we could pull them up. I looked back and could see the sheer panic on Monroe's face; it was mirroring my own fear.
"I got her! Pull us up!" Bellamy shouted up to us.
"Don't you worry, Bellamy. I won't drip you." Murphy said, his voice coming off a little sinister.
"Just pull, Murphy." Finn ordered after.
We where making progress as we continued to pull them up the cliff. I could feel the burn in my arms as I tried to pull with all my might. I could hear Monroe struggling just like I was. All of us where struggling, it was a lot of weight to pull up the side of the cliff. "Pull, Murphy!" Finn told him again.
That was about the time the seatbelt in between Murphy opened up causing him to be split between the two holding all the suspended weight on his own. It had thrown me backwards, along with Monroe and Finn. We could hear the cry of fear from the jolt downward by Mel crawl up the mountainside.
"A little help!" Murphy shouted to the three of us. "Come on!"
Finn instantly rushed to Murphy's aid grabbing hold of the end of the rope with him holding on with all their strength in an attempt to pull the two of them up the side of the cliff. "Oh no!" Monroe and I exclaimed.
"Pull! Pull!" Finn shouted.
Monroe and I instantly jump onto either side of the boys grabbing onto the rope to help them pull the two of them up. "What the hell is happening up there?!" Bellamy shouted up to us.
"Just hold on!" Finn called down to them as we started getting more slack on the rope to pull them up with.
An arrow whizzed by my head landing in the dirt not to far away from me. Soon more began to land all around us, just missing us. "GROUNDERS!" Monroe shouted as loud as she could.
As if this wasn't hard enough already, we had to add in the grounders finding us at a vulnerable time. Monroe looked over at Finn, "Gun." She said quickly.
He took his one hand off the rope, grabbing the gun. "Cover us!" He yelled to her as she nodded taking the gun and quickly moving away.
"How many are there?" Bellamy asked.
"We can't see 'em! In the trees!" Finn shouted back.
"Is Rayne safe?" he asked.
Finn looked back at me as I nodded; "She's fine Bellamy." Finn called back.
"Rayne!" He called up to me.
"I'm fine Bellamy, keep Mel calm!" I called down.
Monroe began to shoot at the trees in hopes that she would hit at least one of them. I could barely hear anything Finn was saying at this point all I could hear was her gunfire.
"In the trees! Aim for the trees!" Finn cried out to her.
A spear soon came flying out of the trees nearly hitting, Finn, Murphy and I. Finn noticed it first jumping out of the way, Murphy however decided to get me out of the way of the spear he was going to kick me off into the other direction of it. The force pushed me into a shrub near by, I looked over at Murphy and noticed he was once again holding the rope completely on his own again.
Finn once again rushed to his side to help him pull the others up, even with the grounders attacking us. An arrow hit Monroe right in the thigh, "No, Monroe!" I shouted to her crawling out of the brush to her aid, picking up one of the guns shooting off into the trees like she was making my way towards her.
"We're gonna need to cut her loose. We can't do this." I heard Murphy tell Finn.
"Bellamy, you gotta cut her loose!" He yelled down the mountain.
"No way!" He called back up to them.
"Monroe!" I called to her once I had reached her side. "Deep breaths you'll be fine." I told her as she nodded to me groaning in pain.
"Cut her loose!" Murphy shouted again.
A foghorn soon began to go off, "Oh shit…" I mumbled as Monroe looked up at me.
"Monroe, get back on the rope!" Finn called to her.
"She can't she's injured!" I yelled to him as I took her place grabbing onto the rope to help the boys pull them up.
"Come on!" Murphy yelled, as she ignored her pain and moved towards us helping us with the rope to pull them up. The arrow still sticking out of her leg, good thing was it looked like the grounders where gone.
We continued pulling the rope up, soon seeing Bellamy's head pop up from the edge, along with Mel. I felt my heart stop pounding as hard as it had been. He was safe, they both where. I could only imagine how she and Bellamy where feeling after that horror show they went through.
Bellamy helped her climb up and over the side of the cliff pushing her so she would move quickly before he himself climbed up into safety.
"Bells." I said moving towards him pulling him towards me into a tight hug. "I was so scared." I told him.
"I'm here, and I'm safe and look we saved her." He told me as he kissed the top of my head.
I looked over and watched Mel's exhausted body collapse onto Finn. "Thank you," she said he voice barely that above a whisper.
Bellamy looked past me at Murphy who was still clutching onto the rope we'd made. Looking over at Bellamy, with the slight sign of relief that he was still alive. "He saved you Bells… he wouldn't let go." I whispered to him.
Bellamy nodded towards Murphy in thanks, "We have to take cover from the fog." Finn said moving closer to Bellamy and I as we where all still trying to catch our breath.
"Bellamy." We all heard her voice, and yet it almost didn't seem real hearing it.
He and I turned our heads to see the voice calling his name; I felt my heart swell at the sight of Octavia standing only a few feet away from us.
I couldn't believe she was still alive, but where was Lincoln he was supposed to take her to the sea and treat her wound.
"Octavia?" I called out to her.
"Ray?" She looked so different, even if it had only been a few days since we'd last seen each other. Her hair was all done up just like the few female grounders we had come across. She had this air of confidence and strength about her that she didn't have before.
"No. We don't." Bellamy told Finn, "She blew the horn."
"Octavia…" He said breathlessly, as he brought the tow of us to our feet.
"Go to her." I whispered to him.
The two walked over to each other embracing each other into an enormous hug, the sight made me smile. I was scared we would possibly never see her again. During that fight when Lincoln had taken her away, both Bellamy and I thought that would be the last time either of us would get to see her.
Bellamy and Octavia soon walked back towards the rest of us, she quickly moved towards me pulling me into a tight hug as well. "Thank you for keeping him safe." She whispered into my ear.
"It was him who kept us all safe," I told her as she and I parted from the hug. "Oh god O', I didn't think we would ever see each other again."
She nodded; "Me either, when I heard you guys through the woods… I thought maybe it was some people from the crashed Ark… I wasn't expecting to find you guys." She told me.
"I'm glad you did." I told her as she pulled me in for another hug.
Bellamy helped me look over Mel for any springs or breaks, all there that was there was dehydration, hunger and a dislocated arm. He had helped me pop her arm back in place before putting in it a wrap. I had told him to make sure it is tight and close to her body to stop it from causing further damage.
I looked over and saw Octavia helping Monroe with her wound, which she already informed us she would probably have been poisoned by the arrow that had hit her. Which meant she had the same poison in her system that Finn had, and Octavia after him when the arrow had hit her during the battle.
"Thank god you came when you did." Monroe told Octavia.
"I was going back to camp when I heard the shots." She explained to her.
"Nice foghorn. What happened to your boyfriend?" Murphy asked her.
"Murphy, don't." I warned him.
"What? It was just a question." He said raising his arms up in defense.
"He's gone." She said her voice starting to break.
"All right." Murphy said walking away from her.
"Are you ok?" I asked her as she nodded, even though I knew the nod didn't mean she was ok. I had to accept that for what it was until she was ready to talk.
Bellamy moved past Murphy towards where Octavia, Monroe and I where. Kneeling down so that he was the same level as his sister, "Hey." He said softly, "I'm sorry, O. " He told her as she quickly stood up picking up her pack.
"The grounders will be back, so we need to go, now." She told us.
"Yes, we do." Finn said as he was looking over the map the dead grounder had made for him.
"Octavia says the arrow might be poisoned. I have to take them home." Bellamy said as he, Octavia and I walked over to Finn.
"I know." Finn told him handing him a small map of his own.
"We'll meet you as soon as we can." Bellamy told Finn as he put his arm around me indicating the 'we' meant the two of us.
"I know." He said again swinging his own pack onto his back before taking off towards where the prisoner camp was supposed to be located.
Murphy soon walked up to the three of us, "Parting;, such sweet sorrow, right?"
"Where the hell do you think you're going?" Bellamy asked him.
"Come on." Murphy exclaimed raising his arms before dropping them back down at his sides. "Bellamy, you know if I go with you, they'll just lock me up again. "
Bellamy leaned down picking up one of the guns in front of us. Tossing it over to Murphy who caught it looking at Bellamy with a confused yet thankful look on his face. At least the two where on a term of agreement, they knew they could at least trust each other to keep our people alive. Even if it meant keeping each other alive when they really didn't want to.
"Really?" Octavia said out of disbelief.
Murphy once he got the gun in his hand cocked the weapon and looked back up at Bellamy. "Watch his back." Bellamy asked him, Murphy nodded before turning around and running off to catch up with Finn.
Bellamy turned around to look at Octavia who was standing next to me. Both the injured Mel and Monroe sat behind us on the logs they had found. "I can't get them home without you." He told her.
"Of course you can't." She told him slowly.
"Let's go." He told her as the three of us walked back to the other two.
Bellamy and I going towards Monroe to help her up, putting her arms over both out shoulders preparing to help her move through the forest. Octavia walked over to Mel getting ready to take her towards the path of the dead we'd gone through to get to this point.
"Let's move out." Octavia told us as the five of us headed off towards the forest again to get back to the camp.
