Rayne's Point of View
Standing next to Bellamy as he aimed the gun out into the fog beyond us. Clarke still hadn't come back from meeting with the Commander after we had shown them we could bring back the reapers. Every so often I could feel his eyes on the side of my head. Octavia was inside with a recovering Lincoln, where Finn was hiding since the entire encounter with the grounder Leaders in the drop ship.
"Bells, do you see her?" I asked as he extended his arm pulling me so that I was behind him. "What is that?" I asked him softly.
Before us on the other side of the gate two large horses began to approach us their bright torches guiding their way. I leaned around Bellamy to try and get a better look at what it was heading towards us. "It's Clarke!" I shouted.
"Hold your fire! She's back!" Bellamy than called out to everyone whom was holding guns.
"Open the gate!" I called out.
Byrne began to call out things to the other guard as the doors began to make noises as I rushed to where Bellamy was standing near the gate waiting for Clarke to enter. Bellamy again tried pushing me behind him for a second time.
"Stay ready!" Byrne called out.
Once the door was open and Clarke slowly walked into the camp, her face sullen. The news wasn't going to be good news, something was wrong. I could only imagine what it was the Commander had said to Clarke. Clearly it wasn't anything good by the look on her face.
"Clarke…" I said as I walked up to her only for her to wrap her arms around my neck. "Where's my mom." She asked softly as she moved away from me.
"You ok?" Bellamy asked her.
"Shut the gate." Clarke said coldly looking over her shoulder at the two grounders on the horses behind us.
"Your mom should be this way." I told her, as I turned around from looking at the grounders to see Finn standing there giving me quite the scare.
"You can't be out here." Clarke told Finn as she took him by the arm leading him away from the gate.
"Rayne come on." Bellamy said putting his arm around me to pull me away from where I was standing looking at the grounders.
"Bellamy there has to be something I can do… you remember what I told you that Nyko said to me… maybe I can appeal to her." I started to say as Bellamy stopped me to look at me.
"Don't… say that so loud Ray, people right now are on edge as it is." He told me.
"Bellamy there has to be something… Finn is hiding inside the compound; half of us have wanted to take off into the desert… I have to do something, as much as I hate to admit it we can't keep leaving Clarke to do all the heavy lifting." I explained.
"Let's go we'll talk about this inside." He told me as he led me away towards the drop ship.
I watched as Clarke walked up to her mom pulling her in for a tight hug. Bellamy and I soon made our way over to where Clarke and the others where. Soon everyone in the camp began to walk over crowding around in hopes to hear what it was the Grounder Commander had said to Clarke regarding peace.
"What did she say?" Her mom asked her once Bellamy and I had reached them and his arm snaked around my waist. "Is there a chance for a truce?" She asked again as Raven soon joined us.
Clarke looked over me before darting her eyes to the ground than her mother, "Yes." She said her voice cracking.
Finn looked around at Bellamy and I, than to the two Griffin girls. "What's wrong?" He asked.
Clarke began to move her head slowly to face Finn. "They want you." She told him as I watched the blood fade from his face, and Bellamy squeezes my side. "If we want a truce, we have to give them Finn."
"What the hell are you talking about?" Raven shot into the conversation.
"That's their offer. They had another but…" she turned to look at Bellamy. "She knew it wouldn't happen."
"What was it?" Bellamy asked. "Don't worry about it." Clarke shot out.
"That's not an offer." Raven spoke again.
"It's a punishment, for what happened at the village." Finn added.
"Blood for blood." I said softly as Finn looked over at me nodding.
"That's insane." Bellamy commented.
"If we refuse?" Abby began to ask. "They attack." Clarke told her as the murmurs began to rumble through the camp.
"Say we give him up!" A man shouted. "Get rid of him!" Another called out.
"Easy, people." Byrne remarked to the crowed of scared and angry people.
"Give him to the grounders!" A man called out as he began to walk towards us. "Back off!" Raven shouted as she pushed the man away.
"Raven don't." I warned. "Rayne stay out of it!" Raven yelled at me.
Soon a fight began to break out between a few of the camp's men and a small handful of the guard. "Hey. Raven, Raven." Clarke began to say.
"Raven, listen to me!" She said again.
"Nothing is gonna happen to him." She started. Clarke don't say something to her that you can't keep. "I promise, ok?" Yea, something like that shouldn't have been promised.
"I'm not dying for him." Griff shouted. "Spacewalker burned 3 months of oxygen on the ark. He should've floated a long time ago."
Bellamy pushed me behind him again, this time I wouldn't even think of protesting him. "Throw him out!" Griff yelled.
Raven rushed Griff pushing him away from Finn, Clarke, Bellamy and I. Byrne began to move towards the fight in hopes to break up the fight peacefully. "Back off!" Raven had shouted at the man.
"Stop, Raven!" Byrne said as she moved to pull the girl off Griff, however Raven's fist collided with the Captain's chin. Two guards soon grabbed Raven in a haste readying to pull her away from the scene and put her into lock up. "Let me go." She began to yell as I moved closer to Clarke nudging her nodding my head towards Finn.
"It's not the only option. Tell them Ray!" Raven shouted back to the crowed as many people looked towards me as Bellamy stepped in front of me. The sight of his body towering over me caused many eyes to advert into a different direction.
Bellamy took me away from the crowed once things began to once again get out of hand. Finn had taken off and the rest of us began to look around for him. Bellamy all the while trying to convince me that I should go wait in our room for him.
"Bellamy, you don't have to keep treating me like glass… I can hold my own." I explained.
"Ray, I was there when Jaha told you that your father was probably dead. It took both Clarke and I to hold you up, so yes I will treat you like glass because as much as I hate Kane. I made a promise to him to protect you." He told me stopping the two of us on our walk.
"I know you said you would keep us safe but I want to help to… I can't keep being the useless one in our group." I told him as murphy walked past us.
"I'm just scared Ray, first they kidnap you, Finn and Clarke. Than they send Tristan to take you from us. Than our friends go missing, if you weren't stubborn you would have gone missing with them. We lose Sterling and rescue Mel, now they want to take Finn from us… we keep losing people Ray… I don't know what I would do if you where one of the people they took next." He told me as I pulled myself closer to him embracing him in a hug.
He held me there breathing in lightly as I felt his hand stroke my hair down. "I love you Rayne, I'm just afraid to lose you. Lose the kindness in your heart." He told me pulling away from me slightly to kiss my forehead.
"I wont Bellamy; I will always have that kindness… look at Clarke. She hasn't lost it and she has more than enough reasons to have filled her heart with hate." I told him.
"If they get Finn; that will change." He told me as I took a deep breath, "You're probably right, but she has us here to keep her feet on the ground."
He smiled softly, "She has you, she will go to you long before she even thinks of anyone else."
"I hope so." I smiled Clarke soon walked over to us. "I talked to the guard and my mother. They are reinforcing the walls and defenses. We should go find Finn." She told us as the two of us nodded following her to where I'm assuming Finn was.
"Hey." Bellamy said once he'd had Finn in his sights.
"We're reinforcing all defenses. Doubles on the perimeter, no one's getting past that wire." Bellamy continued to say as I looked over at Clarke whom was on the other side of me.
"I'll see where they're thin." Finn quickly said jumping up startling me again for a second time.
"No." I told him looking at him, "You need to head inside. Stay where it's safe, you're safe." I told him.
"She's right." Bellamy commented. "B corridor will be easier to defend if it comes to that."
"I'm not gonna hide." Finn told the three of us flatly as I looked over and saw Murphy sitting there, looking how I had explained to Bellamy that I felt.
Murphy had become exactly like I had, the useless member of the group. So much to offer and yet no one wanted either of us to do anything. Murphy had become a really good shot yet; Clarke and Bellamy refused to bring him on any mission. I had soupier medical skills and was starting to learn their language. Yet they wouldn't let me do anything when they did take me along.
"Right now, we have to think about keeping you safe." Clarke told Finn, "Rayne and I are going to talk to Lincoln." Bellamy and I turned to each other at the news Clarke just spat out about me going with her to talk to Lincoln.
"Come on, I'll take you to B corridor." Bellamy said to him. "Finn."
"Hey. Any orders for me, Princess?" Murphy said standing up off the ground. "Yea, stay away from me." She said plainly.
"Clarke… don't." I warned as she nodded to me turning around to walk away. "Just trying to be helpful." Murphy began to tell her.
She then turned around causing me to roll my eyes at this very avoidable talk that was about to go down. "You were with him at the village." She told him, "I tried to stop him, next time you see Nova ask her." He pushed.
"Not hard enough, and we will be lucky to speak to Nova again." She spat back. "You would be lucky. She has feelings for me." Murphy commented as I arched my brow and Clarke chuckled.
Murphy scoffed, "You know, you want to start blaming people, Clarke? He was out there looking for you." He antagonized her as she continued to walk away.
"Murphy, just leave her alone all right? I'll make sure you're not left behind whenever we go out."
He smiled; "Thank you." He said as he walked away from me, leaving me to jog off after Clarke.
She and I soon met with her mother out side of the new medical wing on the Ark camp. Soon meeting up with Octavia who was already in the room with Lincoln who was still tied down to the bed. "Hey." I said softy to Clarke as I walked up to her.
"Hey, Hang on." Clarke said as we heard Lincoln struggling and coughing.
"He's not a reaper anymore. He doesn't need to be restrained." Clarke said turning to her mother.
"Yes, I do." Lincoln said, "Where is my sister. Octavia said she had asked someone to go get her."
"We haven't had a chance to send anyone to the Commander." Abby commented.
"I need to speak to her." Lincoln said in a sort of command of his own.
"I'll get her," Clarke promised again.
"Just tell us. Is there a way to make peace?" Abby asked him as I moved closer to Octavia who nudged me lightly.
"Did she leave riders behind?" He asked casually.
"Two just outside the gate." Abby replied.
"They're waiting for Finn. You don't have much time to decide." Lincoln explained.
"She can't expect us to just hand over one of our own people." Octavia began telling him as she walked over to his side.
"Clarke, there as to be another way." I started saying, "What Nyko told me."
"She will just take you and still require Finn, you to please her desire to be reminded of her sister, Finn because he must answer for his crimes. You alone will not be enough, and she knows with peace between you and them she can get you. Either way she they will have Finn, and you will be taken." He told me.
"Wait what?" Clarke and I said at the same time.
"If you give up Finn, it means peace between you and my people. Which means she will get to see you and have her memories. If you don't give up Finn, they will attack and kill you all, someone will find you and take you to her. She gets her memories." He explained as I shook my head.
"That's insane." I remarked.
"Would she do that?" Octavia asked. "Expect us to kill Finn?"
"She wouldn't let the rest of her people die to protect a murderer." He reminded us. If you don't do this, she will kill everyone in this camp, even you Rayne just to please her people."
"There as to be something else that we can offer." Abby questioned, knowing my suggestion was out and none of us were willing to hand over Finn, she had to find something else. Even if there was nothing else.
"Finn took 18 lives. The Commander's offering to take just one in return. Take the deal." Lincoln explained.
"How can you say that? Finn was the first person to come to you to offer peace." Clarke reminded him. "He's your friend."
"He massacred my village, some of the dead were my friends, too and had John Murphy not protected my sister she could also be apart of the toll of dead." He snapped at us, telling us he would also not be any help to us.
"But that wasn't Finn." Clarke attempted to defend him. "You know that's not who he is."
"It is now." Lincoln's voice grew cold. "We've all got a monster inside us, Clarke, and we're all responsible for what it does when we let it out."
"What will they do to him?" Abby asked after swallowing hard in her throat.
"Fire." He said in an eerily calm tone. "Because he killed the innocent, it starts with fire." Lincoln told us.
"Starts?" Clarke said as she looked over to me as I stood there with a horrified look painted on my face.
"Torture?" I asked slowly, almost regretting my question as I asked it.
"They'll take his hands, his tongue, his eyes, and anyone who grieves will have a turn with the knife. At sunrise, the Commander will end it with her sword. But I've never known anyone to survive until the sword. He killed 18, he will suffer the pain of 18 deaths. Then we can have peace." Lincoln explained to us, he agreed with this torture that the grounders where going to act on Finn.
He agreed because not only did he know all those who died but his sister was in the village when the attack went down. That's now two grounders that favor Murphy over the rest of us. Worst part was that they were related and likely two of the more intelligent of the pack. Nova and Lincoln. I hated to admit it but I was having my doubts we could save Finn, and survive a war with the grounders at this point.
