Bellamy's Point of View
Leaving Rayne was possibly the hardest thing I had to do, I had made the promise to her that I wouldn't leave her side and here I was doing exactly that. It may be the last time I would get to brush her soft hair beneath my hand, or hold her close to me. Kiss her soft tender lips, watching the tears slowly sliding down her cheeks. Broke my heart, but made this mission need to be completed even longer if it meant holding her again was the prize.
Lincoln had gone ahead of me to go kill an animal as apart of the entire looking like a reaper ordeal. They had given me clothing to look the part of one of their own being taken in. I had to admit I was scared of what would happen once we had got into the mountain. I couldn't show weakness not with what would happen should I fail.
Standing there I watched him as he cut open the belly of the dead animal, I could feel my stomach turn at the sight. He stuck his hands inside taking some of the blood out putting it all down his neck like he had, had it when Octavia and I found him. I knelt down beside him not entirely sure of what to say to him. "Ok." I sighed.
"So we make it to the intake door without any of the real reapers seeing us. What happens then?" I asked him.
"I kill everyone, and you slip inside." He growled. "Limestone."
He took the bag I was handing him as he stuck his hand into the white substance before wiping it along his face. Before he looked at me taking in a deep breath. "Why did Nova stay behind, Lincoln. She told Rayne and Clarke she was coming with us." I asked him curiously.
"Lexa refused her request to join us, she feared Nova coming with us would endanger the mission more than it would help." He told me, "That and Indra suggested she stayed. Knowing Indra she is up to something, they think my sister will be the next to answer to the calling." He told me.
"The calling?" I asked.
"It is when the soul of the Commanders chose the next in line; my sister is one of the few girls amongst our people who show the courage and heart it takes to lead. She has the traits a Commander shows before they are chosen. It's why she was so suddenly chosen to be her second." He explained to me.
"At least if she become Commander we know my people won't be massacred." I sighed.
Lincoln looked at me, "Don't be so quick to assume my sister feels like I do for your people. She cares for Murphy and not much else, Indra would likely be the person who would take over Gustus's position in protecting her which means that will be who will guide her in her choices and she hates your people."
I nodded, "Great."
"Let's go we have a lot of ground to cover before dark." Lincoln told me changing the subject.
As we continued to walk through the woods I felt myself feel more and more obligated to get to know the man who had been spending so much time with my sister. He had changed her so much since being on the Ark, since first landing on the ground. It was such a change that I had to admit that I was jealous I hadn't been a good enough brother to inspire this change.
"I needed to know what happened after the intake door." I asked him.
"They remove your clothes, blast you with boiling water, and douse you with something that burns even worse." He told me as I felt a growing pit in my stomach. "From there, we were sorted. The others were tagged harvested. I was tagged Cerberus, turned into a reaper."
"Cerberus three-headed dog that guards the underworld." I began to say as he turned around and looked at me confused. "My mom read mythology to us all the time. Octavia loved it. How were you ok that Nova was going to go in there with me?"
"Nova has come into her own since Anya had taken her in." He told me. "She has become a strong fighter, and she doesn't need me to tell her what to do or how to live her life anymore, Bellamy."
He looked ahead again almost not seeming to react to my comment fairly positively. "You're good for Octavia, you made her strong. Do you find your sister is safe with Murphy?"
"Octavia was already strong; I am not fond of Murphy but if my sister is happy. Than I'm happy, I haven't been the greatest brother to her so I have no place to even voice my thoughts on the matter."
"Hey, I need to ask you something." I told him as I slowly stopped walking, him walking right past me. "You protected my sister and Rayne before you even knew them. Why?" It was a question that I had floating in my head since we had even encountered him.
"When I was a boy, shortly after Nova was born. I had seen a ship fall from the sky like Raven's. The man inside was hurt, his body broken I couldn't get him out." He had started to explain to me.
"Suicide by Earth, I heard the stories in the guard. I just didn't know they were true." I told him as I had thought back to before when I was still in the guard.
"I brought him food and water. I didn't speak the enemy's language yet. So I couldn't understand him, but I wanted to. So on the third day, I told my father. He made me kill him."
The realization that he and I where not so different after all, we had both done things we weren't proud of to and for the people we love. I could only imagine how many other things there were. I did owe him so much for keeping both girls safe for the time he had. He still helped us even when we had done so much that would have turned any one away.
"The world has been trying to turn me into a monster for as long as I can remember. Let's keep moving." He told me harshly as he turned around and continued along his path, which was heading away from the area that we had found him not to long ago.
"Wait." I said to him quickly. "Parking garage where we found you, it's north, that way." I told him pointing towards the direction I was talking about.
"There's a mine entrance closer to where the reapers hand us over. We'll go into the underworld when we have to, not before." I thought about what he was telling me and he was probably right. I only hoped this would be a quick in and out. So that I could get back to Rayne before anything too terrible happened back at the camp.
Rayne's Point of View
Octavia was sitting next to me as Murphy made his way over to where we were standing. The grounders lead by Indra and Nova where supposed to be here soon, we were going to start our training soon for the war ahead of us. Nova was supposed to be helping Bellamy out with the whole Mount Weather mission.
"What do you want Murphy?" Octavia snapped at him.
"Nothing from you, obviously." He snapped back at her. "How are you holding up Ray? I just heard about Bellamy's suicide mission into the Mountain. Interesting Clarke is now only ok with killing off everyone else's loved ones now that her boyfriend isn't here… right. The whole 'I can't be happy, no one can be happy' mantra."
"How helpful and supportive, Murphy and you wonder why we all hate you." She told him.
"Clarke is going through a lot right now. A lot more than we can all imagine. What she needs is our support and help not our anger." I tried to say as I knew even as I was saying it I didn't believe it. I agreed with Murphy, Clarke did only seem to like the idea of anyone else's lives being in peril once she fully let go of Finn.
She was even happy to let Lincoln go back to a place that was no good for him either. She even went as far as convincing Lexa to not let Nova go with her. Trying to show her that our people can do just as much as they can without care of the risk. Nova wanted to go with Bellamy it would have kept Lincoln out of harms way but who cares right?
"Whatever," Murphy smirked as he made his way over to the other side of the room.
"I still think he's going to get himself shot in the head one of these days." She mumbled to me.
"I would hope not but he does need to calm himself down, with the negativity there's enough of that to go around as it is." I told her as she nodded.
We could hear my father walking down the hallway with the grounders. "Murphy isn't wrong, O'. Clarke is getting out of hand, first she killed Clarke, sends Bellamy into the Mountain knowing he might not leave, sends Lincoln with him, not to mention she's going crazy and talking to herself."
Octavia looked like she had been thinking about it; "You're right but what do we do about it?" She asked me.
"We appeal to the higher authority, or we just stop listening to her insane ideas." I told her, "We need to get our friends out and keep our people safe. If she thinks we're going to be completely safe after this war she is kidding herself. We need to establish a better relationship with the Wood Clan." I told her.
"I think I might know how, and it helps that the Commander wanted you before because of some folklore grounder Commander or whatever."
I chuckled; "Oh yea that… I'm sure we will figure something out."
Octavia and I stood there next to each other as the grounders began to enter the room where we all were waiting for my father to begin his welcoming speech. To show the grounders we could all work together in this war, as a collected effort not just as separate enemies working towards the common goal.
I noticed two of the grounders off to the far side of the room whispering to each other in their native language looking at someone in particular. Following their line of sight I realized it was Murphy, considering they where with Indra and apart of the village the attack was at. It didn't take a genius to realize that was where they recognized Murphy.
"All right. Quiet down." My father said as he entered the room. "Indra, please." He asked her softly.
"Don't worry. My shock baton has got your back." A guard whispered to us from behind us as I shook my head in disgust.
"How about you stick it up your ass instead?" Octavia snapped at him giving me a small fist bump.
"I know we don't have a lot in common, but we do have a common enemy and a common goal. For us to reach it, to get our people out of Mount Weather, We need to work together…" My father began to say as both Octavia stopped joking around to listen.
"You need to be more like your father and take control Ray; it would be far better than us, than the disconnect we have right now." She whispered to me.
"Together." My father said in their language. Octavia and Nova had been trying to teach us how to speak their language which really only seemed to upset Indra even more.
"Sky People… and Tree People." He continued trying to show Indra that we were at least making an effort to understand them.
"Our survival depends on us sharing your knowledge—" He continued to say as I felt Octavia nudge my arm, I looked at her as she nodded her head towards Murphy who was being approached by one of the grounders that where against the wall before.
The grounder had done something that must have pissed off Murphy because Murphy pushed the grounder away from him. I watched as Nova walked over to the two men standing between then saying something harsh to the grounder before looking at Murphy.
"Mr. Murphy apologize to that man." My father demanded.
"What did Nova even say?" I asked Octavia.
"Not sure but the word, death and torture where mentioned I think because Indra looked amused." She told me as Nova made her way back towards where she had been standing before next to Indra.
"For what?" Murphy said, as the two men where still standing within inches of each other almost as if whatever Nova had said didn't matter to the man. "He was the one who came at me."
"Two days' work detail." My father tried to make a show of force.
"Work detail? I just told you, I didn't do—" Murphy tried to say looking over at my father the grounder unmoved by anything around him.
I looked over at Nova and Indra who seemed to be talking about something quietly also not in English. What where they up too was Finn's death and Raven's half torture really not enough to them? I had thought Nova had feelings for Murphy why would she want to hurt him?
"Care to make it three?" My father asked.
Murphy just looked at the grounder with his typical smirk plastered to his face as he moved to walk around him, when the ground whispered something to him. Whatever it was that he said earned the grounder a right hook in the face. The two began to fist fight, as both Nova and Indra remained unmoved by the actions occurring around them. I could see in Nova's eyes that she was not ok with Murphy being hurt. I guess she wasn't allowed to do anything about it without Indra's say so, which was odd considering Nova was Lexa's second.
"Murphy!" My father yelled at him as Octavia shook her head.
Soon every grounder and a few of our own people had began to fight each other out of sheer spite that they could without the Commander or Abby here to say something about it.
"Stop!" Octavia said as she started trying to fight some of the people off of attacking each other. Moving towards one of the guards I took his pistol making sure to cock it like Bellamy had shown me before.
Looking around the room I noticed there was no sign of this fight stopping I held the gun straight above my head looking up to make sure that I wouldn't hit anything that would break off. I held the trigger clicking it three times shooting off three warning shots into the air. Forcing everyone in the room to stop fighting and moving away from each other to look around before all their eyes fell on me.
"This needs to stop right now. You are all acting like a group of children; you are supposed to be fearsome warriors. We get it you are pissed off with the fact that Clarke robbed your people of Finn's life. You hate our people for the ring of fire; do you honestly think that acting like a group of children is going to change anything? No! You need us as much as we need you and you're going to have to settle with that sooner or later, and you what is this?" I asked our people as I moved away from the wall.
"This is pathetic; you're fighting them for something they were doing as second nature when you weren't even down here. They saw a threat and fought it, which is funny because we were taught the same damn thing when we were on the Ark. Any single shred of opposition and they went right out an airlock. We do this together or both our people are going to dying up in that mountain. This fighting crap you're doing right now is exactly what the Mountain Men want, they want us to kill each other so they don't have to be bothered." I shouted.
"So figure this out now before the choice is made for you." I spat throwing the gun at my father's feet before storming out of the ship. Once I had been met with the fresh air outside of the ship I felt myself pacing back and forth. That wasn't like me, to just speak out of turn like that, what had gotten into me?
"That was pretty awesome." I heard as I turned to see Octavia walking down the hallway with Nova.
"Indra was impressed." Nova told me, "Takes courage to stand up to both our people like that. Courage Lexa, Indra and I did not exactly see coming from you. You seem enjoy sitting on a back burning, you're father is a natural leader it only makes sense you would follow that path."
"Her path is blocked by an immovable force." Octavia smirked.
"No force is an immovable force, Octavia. If it bleeds, it can and will be moved." Nova said her voice growing dark, which gave me chills; she defiantly wasn't like her brother that was for sure.
"Well hopefully it wouldn't have to come to that, Clarke seems to have a way of making enemies rather than friends, she's been like that since she was a child. Wells and I were her only companions when she was growing up for the same reason she's having down here. She's the way she is because of both her parents…" I explained.
"This is a trait she grew on her own, her parents are not to blame." Nova explained.
Octavia, Nova and I walked away from the door moving towards the area where the distillery had been placed with all the tables and chairs as we all sat down. "Clarke, abandoned her people when she could have easily got them out along side her but she chose not to. She knew she could have saved them and everyone out here by opening a door and killing all the Mountain Men and she didn't because she felt bad." Nova told us as Octavia brought over some drinks.
"She is a weak leader; she leads with her heart and her fights with her sub conscience. A true leader fights with their mind, and their skills, she would sooner lets someone kill her than kill one of her own people. It's weak, she has far too many of them. It's her and your compassion that will get you both killed. To make it down here you need to be completely cut off and selfish it's the only way to keep all of your people safe." Nova explained almost sounding exactly like Indra.
