Bellamy's Point of View
She had begun to lead me around the a few corners trying to keep us away from as many guards as she could. I had to admit I was grateful for her help, I wasn't expecting to get any help or support from anyone entering this mess. If it wasn't for her I would probably still be strung up by my feet or dead.
"Thanks again for helping me back there, that couldn't have been an easy thing to do." I told her as I kept my head down.
"I did it for Jasper, he and the others are in trouble." She told me as she looked around a corner. "I can't help them on my own, so it was blind luck you where here." She said.
"We have been trying to get to them for a really long time, we're hoping to shut all the defenses down so the grounders can attack." I told her.
"There are 382 people inside this Mountain. If any of them realize you're not one of us, you're dead." She explained.
I continued to follow her as she swiped a card against the keypad typing in a code as the door slowly opened. Elevators I'm not sure why I didn't think they would have those. Obviously they would have those in here they aren't like the grounders. We stepped into the elevator as she hit one of the buttons "We're on level two. The dorm is on five." She explained again.
"There's a camera in the upper right-hand corner. Keep your head down." She informed me.
Once we where in our positions in the elevator getting ready to go down to see the others. This was going so incredibly smoothly, which was worrying me. Even when we first got down to Earth nothing ever went smoothly or according to plan. "Hold the elevator." A man yelled from outside, I watched as his hand pressed against the door as he pried himself in.
This was not something I was looking forward to dealing with right now, not this early into the task at hand. I took a deep breath as the man entered the elevator. The man was wearing a worn down suit covered in dust and clay he pressed a button, and stood I front of Maya. "He, Maya." She said to her happily.
"You know, I missed you in my expressionists class." He told her as I watched her play with her hands nervously.
"Yea. I – I had some work to do." She explained to him as I tried to keep my head down, keeping my hand on the gun.
"Ah. I'll get you the notes." He turned around explaining to her before facing forward again.
She turned to me noticing where my hand was as she shook her head at me to tell me not to do what I was thinking. The elevator dinged as I followed her eyes to the numbers above the door to see if this was our stop. However it wasn't our floor, instead two more people entered the elevator.
The fact that there was only one elevator in this entire facility was nagging at me. Made me think maybe the stairs would have been quicker, no cameras. Which started making me this that maybe Maya wasn't helping me rescue Jasper and the others. Where they even alive?
The elevator dinged again as she looked at me nodding that we where to leave the elevator. The couple that was in there with us exited the elevator first walking off to the left. Maya then left right after they did moving quickly to the right, I started to follow her when; "Hey, you're bleeding. You ok?" The man that had first entered the elevator with us asked me.
Maya had stopped next to me looking at me as I turned to answer the man, "You were exposed." She said quickly. "We need to retrace your steps to find the breach." She said reentering the elevator with the man pulling me inside along with her. He held my head in her hands looking at the man sternly telling him that he should leave the elevator.
"What about you?" He asked her.
"This is my job. I'll be fine." She told him calmly.
"Keep the handkerchief." He told her as left the elevator. Watching the doors slowly close from the corner of my eyes I looked back at Maya whose eyes where still planted on the doors. I could feel her shaking against my face; I continued to look at her straight on till she finally took her hands away from me.
We had continued down a few halls in silence making out way towards the others when she stopped me at the corner. "Ok. Come along." I heard a woman say from around the wall. "Inside." She continued as I went to keep walking when Maya stopped me from moving.
That was when I had heard it, the tiny footprints, soft giggles, and laughter. Children, there where small children in here I guess I knew there would be children here I just didn't think I would see them.
"Homeroom has now begun." A woman on the P.A. called out. "All students should now be in their classrooms."
"Come on." Told me as she had begun to walk around the corner and down the hall that was lined with children's paintings. Many of them being paintings of the outside, the ground. It may not be right denying them of ever going out onto the ground but killing my friends to get there wasn't right.
'Mount Weather Pre-School' was on the center of the wall. They weren't just children, they where kindergarteners. At this point I was glad Rayne never asked to come with me, this would have broken her heart.
I felt someone tug on my pants, as I turned to look at the small boy at my side. He wore a uniform for school, much like the ones we wore up on the Ark. He had light brown hair, bright eyes and a wide smile. "Mister…" He said softly as he looked up at me with a grin.
"Are you on a ground unit?" He asked me as he took a few small steps away from me. I just stood there shocked, not sure what I was supposed to say to him. "My dad is training for a ground unit." He told me proudly.
"It's uh pretty cool up there." I told him feeling the words tremble as they left my lips. "I hope he makes it." I told him.
He looked up at me with a rather large smile before he started to walk around me and towards his classroom. He seemed so proud that his dad was going to be one of the few that got to go to the ground. Even if that meant he was going to be one of men who was killing my people.
I watched him as he walked away noticing the nametag on the back of his bag, 'Lovejoy' which made the pit in my stomach grow deeper. Lovejoy was the name of the guard that I had killed; I killed this child's father. I felt myself slipping from this mission even more if only that boy hadn't spoken to me or walked past me. I wouldn't have to feel so horrible for taking his father's life.
What was worse is I wasn't entirely sure I did feel bad for killing his father. I felt Maya's eyes on me as I turned to look at her; she had the same pang of guilt filling her eyes that I did. She must not have realized that was Lovejoy's son, or she did and still felt utterly terrible. I could feel myself choking up, fighting myself to hold back the tears.
We were going to send the grounders in here to kill all of the Mountain Men. They would kill every name woman and child, claiming 'Blood for blood.' I found myself staring at the door the boy had gone through. "They're just kids." I told her.
"What did you expect you'd find here?" She asked me. I looked at her as she looked to her feet, she was upset that we where planning this attack not caring about everyone that would be hurt. "Who's gonna be my helper?" I heard the teacher asked as all the kids began to shout for her to pick them.
She had begun walking away really quickly as I felt myself rushing after her. Maybe Rayne being here would have been a good idea she's much better at talking to people than I was. Than most of us where, I was starting to get curious about whether or not she was ok or not down there.
Finally we had turned the last corner as she stood there smiling, curious what she was looking at I looked over in the same direction seeing Jasper and the others. They seemed like they where unharmed, they looked like they where all right. At least they where safe for the time being, "There they are." She told me as I kept my head down slightly.
Soon a buzzar had started to go off and the doors to the room they where in had shut quickly as I looked over at Maya, "What is this." I demanded from her. She looked like her heart was breaking as I was talking to her, looking towards the window I saw Jasper standing there his face pressed to the window.
"I don't know." She finally answered me. "It's not a breach, but it can't be good."
Tearing my eyes away from my friends as they had begun to panic and hit the door in an attempt to escape. "Get me to that radio." I told Maya
Rayne's Point of View
I was sitting next to Raven while Octavia had gone out on a hunt with Nova, the static from the radio filled the room as we sat in silence waiting for Bellamy to radio in. Looking over at her while she played with the tube we had found on the Mountain Man.
"You going to be alright, Raven?" I asked her as she jumped from the sound of my voice.
"Huh, oh yea… I don't know what this is." She said as I arched my brow.
"I asked if you where going to be ok hun."
Raven nodded running her hand over her head pulling her pony tail out of her collar to let it sit on her back. "I—I keep thinking about that night. The last things I said to Finn, our fights when we where down here, our moments on the Ark. It constant Ray… you have Bellamy… don't let her take him from you like she took Finn from me."
I wasn't exactly sure what to say to her when she had opened up to me. Which I suppose I was partly to blame for her thinking the way she was, I had made her hate Clarke. Before she was just like me, she was just upset with her for the entire Finn situation but now… all she saw was red.
"Finn will always be apart of you Raven. No one can ever take those memories from you, those feelings… it's all yours Raven. Sure sometimes, a lot of the times Clarke drives me nuts too… I don't think she will react very good if Bellamy dies." I explained to her.
"We both know she's to entitled to actually admit any mistakes… she still thinks she did nothing wrong with Finn, she acts all broken and sad but she shows no remorse for anything." She yelled.
"Raven please don't fight with me." I pleaded with her.
"I'm not I just don't understand how with everything she does; you constantly forgive and forget with her. She is the worst kind of person Rayne, and in terms of friends… even the worst grounder would be better than her." She told me before turning her attention back to the object in her hand.
After an hour of silence watching her play with the tube I let out a sigh, we knew that was what they used to keep the Reapers in check both Nova and Clarke had confirmed it. Raven finally got it to make its high-pitched noise looking over at me. "Can you replicate it?" We both heard Clarke's voice ask from the doorway.
I looked over at Raven who rolled her eyes at the sight of Clarke but sucked it up for my sake I hoped. "Yea. I can totally replicate this frequency." Raven told her.
"Good." Clarke said sternly as she had begun to pace.
"Yea, if we can neutralize the Reapers." I added as I motioned for Clarke to stop pacing around. "Than maybe we can actually use the tunnels safely." I continued as Clarke just continued to pace about.
"Right." Clarke said as she moved towards Raven. "Get on it." She said sternly as Raven looked from her hands at me, I could see her anger was rising as she had put the device down and clenched her fists.
"You don't need to give me orders, Clarke." Raven sneered. "I got this."
I looked at Raven, "Take your time Raven. I know you can do this. You're the best of the best." I smiled at her as she smiled back at me.
Why was it so hard for Clarke to calm down and be normal with people, she needed to stop treating everyone around her like she was playing chess and they where just the pawns. I looked over at Clarke hoping she could see from my eyes to lay off Raven. But she didn't.
"Raven, any word from Bellamy?" Octavia asked walking into the room with Nova whom just looked over at me. Indra was aware she wouldn't get my full attention till Bellamy was back. Something she didn't seem upset about, I guess knowing regardless of this war she had both of our loyalty.
"Nothing yet O', Rayne has been here with me a while I would have sent her." She told her as she lowered her head and returned back to Nova's side like a child to its mother.
"Lincoln is still missing, he should have been back by now." Nova said before turning to Clarke. "You shouldn't have told Lexa to keep me behind." She started to raise her voice at Clarke as Octavia stood there with a smirk on her lips.
"They'll be ok." Clarke attempted to calm the girls down.
"So easy for you to say Clarke isn't it? Considering you don't have a brother, or a lover at risk anymore." Nova snapped leaving the room.
"They better be ok." Raven spoke up. "Raven not now." I warned her silently.
"What? Considering her entire plan rests on Bellamy getting in? Sure he could get in but I mean think about the likely hood of him getting around the place. They must have heightened their security since you and Nova left."
I could hear Clarke's deep sigh, "He will." She snapped.
Octavia looked over at me as I shook my head at her as she rolled her eyes, she wanted to say something, and she wanted me to say something. However there was nothing I was going to be able to say to get Clarke to leave Raven out of this whole thing.
"Counselor Kane, Rayne Locke and Clarke Griffin please report to the south airlock immediately." Someone had announced on the P.A..
"Your last name isn't Kane?" Raven questioned.
"You didn't know that?" I chuckled, "I didn't even know he was my dad till I got down here." I laughed as she smiled at me, a smile that wasn't about to last much longer.
"We'll finish this later, let's go Rayne." Clarke said suddenly as I looked at the two girls sympathetically before following Clarke towards the airlock still unsure why I had been called to go too.
"Did he say something?" Clarke asked once we had reached the airlock.
"No…" Her mother sighed, "But his blood did."
"What?" I said slowly turning my attention to the man in the airlock.
"Jackson found genetic marker anomalies that can only come from someone-" She started to say as I quickly turned to look at her cutting her off, "Our markers I take it." I replied to her as she just looked to the ground before nodding slightly.
"What does that mean?" Clarke asked.
"It means they started whatever it was they planned to do with you all." I told her, I meant it when I included her. Obviously if she hadn't escaped she would be getting the exact same treatment. In fact she would have been their first to test.
"It didn't come from the blood transfusion that we gave him?" My father asked her. "Nope." Abby replied quickly.
"I took the sample before that." She informed us. "They're bleeding our friends, Rayne." Clarke hissed as I nodded to her, we needed to speed this up.
"We don't know that." My dad said. "Dad don't kid yourself those people are sick, Clarke and Nova told us what they where doing to the grounders. Do you really think they wouldn't do worse to our people knowing what our blood can do for them." I spat out as Clarke smiled seeing I had her back.
"Girls," Abby warned. "No. We were genetically engineered. They weren't." Clarke said as she before she tried to make a move for the airlock. "What are you doing?" my dad stopped her.
"Killing him. Get out of my way, Kane." She spat as I could see the plan formulating in my mind. We needed him; I knew we needed this guy alive what for I couldn't put my mouth on it yet. "Clarke no. Let's go back to the radio." I told her while the three of them where arguing.
"Clarke, you two are not in charge here." Abby told her daughter as I stifled a laughed. "Oh what and you are because of a tradition we had in the Ark? Don't be stupid Abby without Clarke you wouldn't have the grounders and without me you wont keep them." I told her as she glared at me.
What was I becoming, I was starting to be this monster. Was this all because of Bellamy being gone? The training Indra was giving me? I had to admit I did kind of like this control I was starting to come into, Clarke was right the other day we needed each other to get our friends out of there.
We were the only two in the entire Ark population that could lead this.
Clarke turned around quickly linking her arm with mine leading me out of the room heading back towards the engineering room once again.
As we both walked back into engineering I watched as Raven was hunched over the table trying her best as she began to fiddle with something on the table. 'This is Jasper Jordan. We need help/ 47 of us are trapped inside…" I could hear his voice move through the room.
"We're too late." Clarke snapped at Raven. "They're already bleeding them."
"They've taken Harper, and she may already be dead." His voice continued.
"We don't know how much time we have left." Clarke continued as I looked at Raven who looked like she was still at her snapping point.
"It's over." Clarke said as I snapped my head towards her shocked. "Excuse me?" I shouted out.
"Exactly, you don't get to give up, Clarke." Raven stood up yelling. "You cannot be serious right now." I added moving away from Clarke.
"You killed Finn, and I didn't give up. You sent Bellamy away from Rayne and she hasn't given up." Raven yelled. "I'm building a dam tone generator, she's turning into a grounder, and you do your job!"
"What is my job?" Clarke screamed.
Raven shrugged; "I don't know, to come up with something… if not give it to Rayne to figure out."
"I'm trying to help her Raven, Clarke we can't give up we're all in this together… we give up now... Bellamy is as good as dead. Don't put that blood on your hands too." I warned her as she lowered her head.
"Just breathe Clarke we can do this." I told her.
"Camp Jaha, this is Mount Weather. Can anyone read me?" Bellamy's voice came through the radio as all our heads spun around to look at the radio next to Raven.
"Go." Clarke told me motioning for me to answer him. "Holy crap." I heard Raven mumbled.
"Camp Jaha, this is Mount Weather. Can anyone read me?" He asked again as both girls handed me the radio.
I took the mic in my hands as they had begun to shake they felt so clammy. My mouth instantly becoming dry, my heart pounding out of my chest as I tried to calm down my breathing. "Bellamy?" I barely said into the mic.
"Rayne?" I heard the disbelief in his voice. "It's me baby." I said to him softly.
The silence in the room grew, "Are you alright?" I asked him, as both Raven and Clarke placed their arms on either side of me, supporting me as I felt like I was about to break down.
"I'm fine baby, however that's it for the good news." He told me as I felt my stomach drop. "Wh-what do you mean?" I stuttered.
"We have to talk fast, something has changed it's bad. Jasper, Monty, everyone, they just locked them in the dorm." He told us quickly. "But they're alive?" I asked him.
"All of them?" I asked again as Clarke mouthed it to me. "I think so, for now." He told me.
"Maya says that they're already using their blood, and things are gonna get ugly in here real fast." He continued.
"Maya is with him?" Clarke asked me.
"Clarke is asking is Maya is with you now?"
I turned looking over at Clarke slightly confused as to what was so terrible about this girl, I remember her mentioning her once or twice before but I don't remember anything bad. I know Nova said nothing but praise about the girl. "You'd like her." He told me.
"She helped me escape. If not for her, I'd be dead." He informed me.
"Tell her I say thank you for that."
I heard him chuckle softly before the deep sigh came out, "Babe, you're going to have to tell Clarke, there are kids in here. We need a plan that doesn't kill everyone. Please tell me we have one." He said as I took a deep breath.
"We do." I told him as both Raven and Clarke turned quickly looking at me, confusion written all over their faces. "But you need to disable the acid fog first, I'll pass you off to Raven she is going to help you while Clarke and I get our plan together." I told him.
"Great anything else babe?" He asked me. "You're going to need to find a way to free the grounder prisoners too." I told him. "There is an entire army in that Mountain."
"Trojan horse. Brilliant." She said, I could almost hear the smirk in his voice.
"Does Maya think it's doable?" I asked him quickly.
"Uh she says it's not a problem. Look, baby if I'm going to pull this off, we're going to need you to buy us some time. It won't take them long before they realize I don't belong here, and if that happens—" He told me.
"You'll be fine Bells have faith. It's got us this far." I told him, "Besides like I said I have a plan."
"Good. I kind of want to come back to you alive." He chuckled.
"You will here's Raven. I love you…" I told him, "And I love you." He said smiling into his words, I handed the mic off to Raven before taking Clarke getting ready to leave.
Clarke looked at me, "Plan?" She asked me.
"Go wait for me by our guest Clarke… trust me." I told her, "I've got an idea that will help Bellamy perfectly." I smiled as she grinned rushing off. "Make sure he's in his suit he's going home." I told her.
Once I had gathered Indra, Fio, Octavia and Nova they followed me through the ship towards where Clarke was waiting for us with our new guest. "Ready?" I told Clarke.
"There's going to be a lot of heat from our parents, Rayne."
I shrugged, "Let them bring the heat, they can't keep expecting something to happen by doing nothing. They can't keep acting like we're still up in space on the Ark… Clarke they have no power down here… that's us… our friends up in the Mountain. We survived a war with the Grounders, you brought us peace with them… what have our parents done?" I asked.
"Sent us here." She laughed. "One thing, great." I laughed with her.
"Ready to go home buddy?" I asked the man next to her, he was about to start his speech again. "Save it, it was a rhetorical question anyway." I told him as Clarke grinned at me.
Once we had left the ship Clarke and I lead the way with Nova, Octavia and Indra behind us along with a few of the grounder guards. We had started headed for the gate to leave the camp when Clarke turned to me. "Hope you know what you're doing… here they come." She told me.
Soon Abby and my father had rushed in front of our group headed for the exit of the camp. "Clarke, what are you doing?" Abby shouted at her.
"This has nothing to do with Clarke, Abby." I told her.
"Girls, stop this." She told us. "No." Clarke announced to her.
"We're letting the prisoner go Abby." I told her, "Absolutely not." Abby snapped.
"He hasn't told us anything yet." Kane added.
"And you think keeping him locked up will? They will all be dead by the time he speaks." I told them, "Besides, he's going to be telling them something."
"Enough of this, get the prisoner back to the airlock now." Abby told her guards.
"Indra, Nova, Octavia?" I said to them as they all unsheathed their weapons causing all the guards to back off.
"You may be the Chancellor, but we're in charge." Clarke firmly told her mother. "You're just going to have to accept that." I added in, as I felt Clarke link her arm with mine.
"Indra, tell your people to stand down before this gets out of hand." Abby ignored us as Clarke shook her head.
Indra looked over at me than back to Abby. "No."
"People could get hurt." She told us. "They will if you keep standing there." I replied to her
"You need to trust that… we know what's right for us." She told her mother reminding her of something she'd said earlier.
"The grounders trust the girls." My father said to Abby, "Maybe we should, too."
"Stand down." Abby finally said to her men as they all lowered their guns and backed away.
The entire group then moved around our parents as Clarke removed her arm. "I'm sweating so bad that was intense." She told me. "Being bitchy… you'll get used to it. That and I'm here, you'll be fine hun." I told her
"Open the gate now." Clarke shouted to the men as they opened it up for us as I took the man pushing him out of the boarder of the gate while we all stood there.
Clarke stood back with all the grounders as I moved forward towards the man as he stood there as more grounders from outside the camp where now standing around him. "You can hear me?" I asked him as he nodded.
"Good, because I need to make sure what I'm going to tell you sticks." I said as I looked back at Clarke who smirked at me crossing her arms. I couldn't tell if she was impressed with my change or annoyed by it.
"Loud and clear." He told me.
"I have a message for your leader. We're going to be coming for him, you're watching us but you really haven't seen anything. The grounder army is bigger than you think and even if you could find it, which you wont. Your acid fog can't hurt them, and well now… thanks to you and your buddy…" I had begun to tell him as Clarke walked over handing me the Reaper sound control device.
"Neither can the reapers, so you have one last chance. Let all our people go, and we'll let you live." I told him.
"It's just that simple." Clarke added in as I smiled.
"I got it." He told us. "Hope so." I told him as I walked closer to him taking hold of his oxygen tank, "Clarke it's what an 8-hour walk to Mount Weather?"
"Yea about that." She confirmed as I began to release the oxygen till the meter read that he had a little over six hours of oxygen left, "He's gonna do it in six." I said coyly.
"6 hours? That's not enough." He exclaimed. "How am I supposed to deliver your message?" He asked as I turned to Clarke.
"That would be your problem. Now go." She said.
"Keep watch of him, make sure he gets there… if he doesn't make sure his corpse does." I told the grounders behind him.
"I'll go with Nova." Octavia said looking over at Clarke, "However do you want to explain to me how this helps Bellamy?"
"We just told him we have a secret army, O' they wont be watching the inside they will be far to busy watching us out here." I told her, "Come with us we'll talk." I told her as I motioned for her to follow Clarke and I.
Nova was going after Murphy… I knew she was… Octavia had told me earlier, was she going to cover for her to Indra?
