Other end of phone conversation

Inuyasha groaned at the sound of his cell phone ringing, glancing at the clock on what was once Kagome's side of the bed and saw that it was two in the morning.

Glancing at his phone had him instantly alert.

"Kagome?" He said quickly answering the device. It had been two days since Sesshomaru and Rin's wedding. Two days since he'd seen her or Hiro...two very painful days.

Inuyasha... Came the timid voice on the other end of the line, I am sorry if I am waking you.

"Not at all! I always have time for you." He told her, "Is everything alright? Are you and Hiro okay?"

We're fine...I just-... She broke off.

Inuyasha could feel how nervous and agitated she was through their bond. "Kagome, baby what is it? You know that you can tell me anything, ask e for anything."

Kagome's sigh sounded tired and helpless. I was doing a lot of thinking during and after the wedding...do you think that we could meet up and talk? Maybe for lunch? She asked.

"Time and place?" Inuyasha asked without the slightest bit of hesitation.

Twelve-thirty...the little diner we used to go to when we were still dating. She said.

"I'll be there." He told her.

"Okay...I'll see you then. She said before the line went dead.

Inuyasha hadn't been able to go back to sleep after Kagome had called, he was just too worried over what it was that Kagome could possibly want to tell him.

"It can't be that bad. Try and think positive master Inuyasha." Meoga had said that afternoon when Inuyasha was heading out the door.

Inuyasha arrived first getting a table in a corner so that they could talk in private, and taking the liberty to order Kagome's favorite drink.

"Sorry I'm a bit late, I was dropping Hiro off with your parents." Kagome said taking a seat across from him.

Inuyasha nodded, "you're not that late, I just made the drink orders a few seconds ago."

"That's good I didn't want to waste your time or anything." She said.
"Kagome this is not some business deal, this is you and Hiro." He said, "My family is not a waste of time."

Kagome nodded. "I didn't mean to imply that, but according to what I was told you had more important things to do...It's why I was so nervous about asking to meet with you."

"Who the hell fed you that load of crap?" Inuyasha demanded.

"Kikyo sought me out during Hiro's check up at the doctors yesterday to tell me how great you two were doing." Kagome said.

"Kagome after you left Kikyo tried moving in and getting back with me, and I haven't seen or heard from her since I told her off." He said, "whatever she's been saying is a complete lie."

Kagome nodded again. "Nice to know since I want to come back."
"Y-y-you do?" He asked ecstatic as the waitress brought their drinks and took their orders.

"Don't get too excited...this is for Hiro." Kagome told him, "I don't want him to grow up a child in a broken home, and I will go through the motions for his sake."

"I understand." Inuyasha said, "but Kagome I would like the chance to fix us...make up for my mistake and prove to you that we can go back to the way we were."

Kagome would be lying if she said that she wasn't somewhat moved by how determined he was...his unwavering determination was one of the things that she loved about him.

"I can't stop you." She replied taking a sip of her soda.
"Yes, but will you be receptive?" Inuyasha asked.

"It wouldn't be fair if I wasn't...just don't screw it up this time because there will be no more chances, and Kikyo clearly isn't as out of the picture as you thought she was." Kagome sighed.

"If she shows p again I'll deal with her." Inuyasha promised.

He was not going to loose his family a second time.

"When do you plan on returning?" Inuyasha asked changing the subject

AN: It looks as though Inuyasha may be getting the second chance that he prayed for, but something tells me that things really won't be that easy. R&R.
