AN: I am doing a perspective from Severus' point of view. If its a dud I won't try another one like this. But if it works I'll do others during the hunt and stuff to make it interesting so its not always from Sirius' perspective. Once again I am not JK Rowling.
Severus POV
I glared into the fireplace holding tightly to my glass of Firewhisky. My thoughts were jumbled and chaotic after my meeting with Albus last night. Harry, the boy-who-lived-to-annoy-the-hell-out-of-me, Potter had a part of the Dark Lord's soul inside of him. This was not how it was supposed to turn out at all. All I wanted was for Harry to survive for Lily.
My throat burned and I swallowed thickly. Sweet Lily who had never loved me other than a friend and died because of my mistake. I looked into the fire trying to control my emotions. If she had never met me she would still be alive.
Harry would have to die. It would have killed her to find out that after everything she did to protect him he would still have to die. I know it hurt for me just thinking of it. Still did hence the glass of Firewhisky to numb the pain.
Harry didn't to deserve to die. And it would kill Sirius and Hermione, my closest friends besides Minerva who treated me with respect. Sirius. I shook my head smiling. Who would have thought my closest friends would be the dog and his know-it-all wife. I shook my head smiling. Life was funny like that.
It had taken me years to realize it but Harry was nothing like James. He may have looked like his twin but he was his mother's son. Especially those eyes. The fire flickered and I pulled out the small picture of Lily I always carried with me. She was twirling around her straight red hair flung out around her and her green eyes alight with laughter. They had the same eyes. It had almost killed me when I first saw his eyes. Just another memento that she had cared for the man I hated more than me.
I slipped the picture back into my pocket glaring into the fire. Seeing Harry date Ginny hadn't helped at all. Ginny unfortunately sometimes looked like Lily even though they weren't related in the slightest. Their hair had the same tint of red and were the same length. Watching them holding hands and kissing was like watching the memories of my past come to life. During one of the D.A. meetings Ginny had passed out and passed out cold her hair spread around her. All I could think of was Lily's death. Was that how she had looked after the Dark Lord had killed hair? A tear slid down my cheek at the thought.
This was my curse. The horrible drowning feeling I always had. Knowing I was always alone no matter what I did. This was my penance for betraying the love of my life. Living without her and seeing the child she had always wanted walking around with the scar on his forehead. The reminder I always had that she was dead. Dead because of me.
I cursed chucking my Firewhisky into the fire and the flames exploded angrily. A sharp gasp startled me and I spun ready to verbally eviscerate whoever had dared enter my office. Hermione was standing behind me her chocolate eyes wide mouth open.
I would never yell at Hermione. Not after Sirius and I became friends and he had practically begged me to look after her whenever he was gone. How could I possibly say no? Besides I had come to enjoy her company.
"Hermione?" She shook her head to clear her thoughts and smiled tentatively at me. It took me a moment but I smiled back. I wasn't used to students smiling at me.
"I wanted to talk to you about something Severus." She said softly walking into the room and took a seat. I frowned but sat across from her.
"What did you want to talk about?" I asked leaning back in my chair an easy smile spreading across my face.
"You probably already know that Harry, Ron and I won't be attending school next year." She said tentatively her eyes distant.
"I do." I said softly watching her closely. She seemed to be choosing her words carefully trying to figure out exactly what to say.
"Being with Harry and Ron won't be easy." She said her eyebrows furrowed together.
"Oh trust me Hermione I believe it." I muttered watching her. Her lips twitched but she continued as if I didn't say anything.
"I know they will be able to keep me safe but we have a bad habit of getting hurt in the most random ways." Its true they really did. The golden trio, as they were usually called, had the worst luck I had ever heard of. Werewolves, Basilisks, Dementors, Trolls, Death Eaters and Umbridge. It was hard to believe everything they had been through and I knew for a fact there was more things I didn't know about.
"Yes you have an uncanny ability to stumble upon the most unusual things." I said shaking my head. She nodded in agreement her brown eyes watching me closely.
"I was wondering if I could get some potions from you to bring with us?" She asked her voice hushed. I smirked inwardly and decided to let her sweat it out for a few moments.
"Hermione you know I am no longer a Potions teacher." I said silkily. She frowned and bit her lip as a blush lit up her cheeks.
"I'm only going to say this once and if you ever tell anyone I will gleefully beet you with a stick." She said her eyes flashing. Unfortunately for her she didn't like that intimidating. If anything her unruly curls and small body made her look more like an angry kitten. It took everything in me not to burst out laughing.
"Of course." I would never betray her trust.
"I don't like Slughorn." She said her lip curling in distaste.
"Why not?" I asked folding my hands together.
"He only cares about collecting students he deems as worthy he doesn't give a damn about teaching us. You were a much better teacher Severus." She said shaking her head.
"Thank you Hermione." I said slowly letting her words wash over me a small smile spreading across my face. "That's the first time I've ever been told anything like that."
"Really?" Her eyes were wide. I nodded a slow easy smile spreading across my face. She was too nice for her own good.
"Well your a fantastic teacher and better at potions than Slughorn could ever be." A large smile spread across my face.
"Of course I'll help you Hermione." I said shaking my head and a small laugh escaped. Her eyes flashed and her hair seemed to crackle with electricity.
"That's not funny Severus!" She screeched. I laughed freely and a moment later she joined in. "Okay maybe a little funny."
"All you need to do is give me a list of potions you for sure want," I paused and swallowed thickly. "Even the illegal ones."
"Thank you Severus." She said darting forward to give me a hug. I patted her arm awkwardly and smiled up at me.
"Do you have any long-term potions you want me to get started on?" I asked rolling up my sleeves.
"Yes." She said a determined look crossing her face. "Polyjuice Potion, Felix Felicis, Phoenix tears and Veritaserum."
"Speaking of Polyjuice Potion I've always wanted to ask you something." She paled and her eyes dropped to the floor. I already knew the answer but I still wanted to hear her say it.
"What about it?" She squeaked out.
"Was it you or Ron who stole from my stores?" I had tried to use legilimency on Harry's mind at the time but I had been too angry to focus.
"It was me." She said softly shifting uncomfortably. I nodded a small smirk crossing my face.
"Well I guess you got your comeuppance." I said pulling out some phoenix tears from a cupboard and made sure the container had an Unbreakable charm on it before handing it to her.
"Why do you say that?" She asked placing the bottle in her bag.
"Who do you think was the one who figured out how to turn you back into a human after you became a kitten?" I asked grabbing some Veritaserum and handed it to her after placing an Unbreakable charm on it.
"Well I guess I should say thank you." She said her face bright red.
"Sure thing," I paused. "Kitten." She shrieked angrily and threw a hex at me. I laughed heartily and easily blocked it.
"Sorry couldn't resist." Hermione wrote out a list of things she wanted. A lot of the things were simple like the blood replenishing potions, calming draught, burn salves and pepper up potion but some of the others... I shook my head and continued reading. Why would she want Skele-grow or a Bezoar? Did she plan on getting poisoned by Nagini or something? Well it would be better safe than sorry. I tied my hair back and started in on the potions she had asked for starting with the first one on her list: anti-paralysis potion.
AN: Please Review! It really helps knowing what you like and don't like. I might not be able to do everything right away but I try to keep in mind your ideas.
