AN: Okay so I'm trying to put my own small twists on the story and also keep the original as best I can. Some characters are OCC and it is definitely AU. If you don't like the changes then just don't read it. So JK Rowling hasn't said how a horcrux is made so I'm creating my own method trying to make it as dark as possible. I am going for at least somewhat realistic to the books. Once again I am not JK Rowling.
Harry, Ron and I were sitting together on my bed in the hospital wing. Madame Pomfrey said I could leave soon. Sirius was asleep at the end of my bed in Snuffles form twitching in his sleep. He hadn't slept at all the last two nights because I kept having nightmares so I couldn't blame him for sleeping when he had the chance.
"What do you mean the locket is a fake?" I asked shrilly my eyes wide. This could not be happening.
"Here." Harry said placing the locket in my hand. It was light and poorly made. As if it had been duplicated. I popped open the catch and pulled out a piece of paper that had been folded multiple times to fit inside.
To the Dark Lord,
I know I will be dead long before you read this but I want you to know that it was I who discovered your secret. I have stolen the real horcrux and intend to destroy it as soon as I can. I face death in the hope that when you meet your match you will be mortal once more.
RAB
"Whose RAB?" I asked once I was done. Ron and Harry exchanged a look before turning back to me. "You don't know do you."
"Not a clue." My shoulders slumped and I sighed tapping my fingers against the side of my leg. What could we possibly do? Sirius had given me all the books he could find in the library at Grimmauld Place but it wasn't enough. I still barely knew anything about them. How had Tom Riddle found out about them? The library here but Dumbledore would have removed them possibly even destroyed them. No. I shook my head thinking, he wouldn't destroy them but he would put them someplace no one would look for them. Like in his office.
"I have an idea." I whispered my eyes wide.
"What?" Harry and Ron asked at the same time.
"One of you two open the window." I muttered since I couldn't move.
"What why would we -"
"Just do it!" Ron jumped up and opened the window next to my bed. I took a deep breath, pulled out my wand and flicked it through the air.
"Accio Horcrux books." We all waited silently to see if anything would happen.
"Hermione..." Harry started his eyes soft.
"No! It'll work!" I waited concentrating hard on what I wanted my eyes squeezed tight.
"Hermione!" My eyes snapped open at the shocked sound of Ron's voice. In my lap was a very thick, dusty tome with faded black leather. Another thinner red book was next to it looking innocent and innocuous.
"Merlin it worked." Harry said his voice hushed. I slowly reached forward to grab one of the books.
"Hermione don't." Ron whispered his face pale. I froze my hand hovering over the red one.
"Why?" I asked looking up at him. His ears turned red and he wiped his hands against his eyes.
"There could be curses on there that could be in place so a muggleborn could never touch it without dying or torture. Toujours pur." Ron said his face pale
"Always pure." I muttered biting my lip.
"Here lets just try a few spells before you touch it. Specialis Revelio!" Nothing happened.
"I think it will be fine Ron." I said grabbing up the red book. Once again nothing happened and the boys sighed in relief. I frowned and started to flip through the pages. My stomach clenched at some of the pictures but I continued looking for anything about Horcruxes.
"Find anything?" Harry asked as I flipped from one page to another.
"Nothing yet, oh wait." I said turning back a couple of pages. No pictures were on the page and only one sentence was beneath the word Horcrux at the top. "A receptacle prepared by dark magic in which a Dark wizard has intentionally hidden a fragment of his soul for the purpose of attaining immortality."
"That's it?" Ron asked indignantly snatching the book out of my hands. His eyes darted across the page and he tossed it back onto the bed a look of disgust on his face.
"Lets hope there's more in – er I can't read the title." Harry muttered squinting at the large leather tome.
"Let me see it." I said grabbing up the book. The leather was weathered and faded with age. Gold letters were peeling off of the front and I squinted at them trying to understand them.
"Why don't you just open it to the cover page?" Ron asked grabbing a chocolate frog off of the nightstand and absently nibbled it.
"Oh, brilliant Ron." I said flipping through the pages. My stomach swooped horribly when I saw the title.
"What is it?" Harry asked watching me.
"I don't think I'll like this book." I muttered biting my lip.
"What's it called?" Ron asked his cheeks pale.
"Secrets of the Darkest Arts." My voice was soft.
"Yeah that sounds like something Voldemort would read." Harry said shaking his head. "Is it just me or does it seem a bit predictable that he would go after the darkest books possible?"
I snorted and started to flip through the pages. Merlin this was horrible. Most of the pages showed pictures of sacrifices and rather graphic pictures of raping women or even children. "I think I'm going to be sick."
"That bad?" Ron asked his voice shaking.
"Worse." I muttered closing my eyes. This book would definitely be starring in my nightmares. I flipped the page and froze my mouth dropping open. "I ff-ff-found it."
On the top of the page in curly cursive was the word Horcrux the page was full with explicit directions on how to make one, how to keep it safe and how to destroy one. On the second page were pictures that went along with the instructions. My mouth dropped open with shock and a tear slipped down my cheek as my stomach rolled.
"What is it?" I barely heard Harry's question when I dropped the book on the bed. A colorful picture of Herpo the Foul was on the page: impregnating a woman through rape then killing the unborn child before casting a spell that created the Horcrux after killing another person and saying a different spell.
I turned away as my stomach gave a horrible jolt and I threw up next to my bed.
