AN: I will be making as many updates as I can before I leave Thursday morning. Once again I am not JK Rowling.
Harry, Ron, Neville, Hannah, Luna, Ginny, Sirius and I were in the Room of Requirement on squishy couches the room had provided in front of a roaring fire with a bottle of Firewhisky. Sirius didn't care that half of us were underage but he did say we weren't allowed to leave the room if we were drunk.
Harry poured himself a large glass and raised it up his eyes pained.
"To Albus Dumbledore the most powerful wizard since Merlin." He threw his head back and drank the liquid.
I poured myself a glass and raised it in the air. "To the end of childhood innocence."
Everyone poured themselves a drink and made a toast of some sort. Ron was the last to go, he filled his glass to the top. "To love and liquid courage."
I turned to him and raised my eyebrow in surprise. Luna's cheeks flushed red and she shifted around nervously as Ron threw his head back and drank the shot. He blew out a heavy breath and swallowed nervously.
"I've been wanting to do this a long time Luna." Ron said standing up from the couch. He paced nervously back and forth in front of the couches. "I have waited a long time, trying to figure out the most eloquent way of doing this. But the thing is I need to be me when I do this. Since Dumbledore is dead and the three of us will be leaving on the hunt soon I want to leave you with something. A promise of my love." Ron blew out an unsteady breath and lowered himself to one knee. He pulled out a box from his pocket and opened the lid. Nestled inside was a beautiful woven ring with a diamond in the center.
"Luna Lovegood would you do me the honor of becoming my wife?" Luna had tears streaming down her face. She slowly lowered herself onto her knees so she was level with Ron.
"Of course." She whispered then pressed her lips against Ron's in a passionate kiss. Tears gathered in the corner of my eyes and I quickly wiped them away. Sirius entwined his hand with mine and I smiled happily at him.
We spent the rest of the day in the Room of Requirement trying to find some happiness with Dumbledore and Sarah's funerals coming up. Just thinking Sarah's name made my throat tighten. She was just a child. How could anyone kill her? Sirius wrapped his hand around mine and smiled sadly at me. A huge wave of love crashed through our bond and made me gasp with the force of it.
"You okay Hermione?" Ginny asked looking up from her entwined hands with Harry.
"Yeah just a little hungry." I said shrugging half-heartedly.
"Why don't we make our way down to the great hall and get some food?" Sirius asked his voice soft.
"Yeah lets go." Ron said jumping up a large smile on his face. The eight of us quietly made our way to the great hall. It was completely empty save for the grey lady who was floating in the corner. I was careful not to make eye contact with her. She was extremely shy. The daily prophet was laying on the table and I picked up reading the headline.
Severus Snape and his last known Whereabouts!
By Rita Skeeter
Most of the section was a detailed account of what hadn't happened that night. Almost all of the so-called facts were wrong. The only thing that was true was that Severus Snape had indeed killed Albus Dumbledore, but that was it.
And then below that were the lists of all the deaths. There were many more killings now that Dumbledore was dead. I read down the long list seeing if I recognized any of the names. One of them caught my eye and I swallowed thickly. Sarah Johnson.
"Anyone else we know died?" Ron asked stuffing food in his mouth. I winced and shook my head trying to control my emotions.
"No," I said folding up the newspaper. "They're still looking for Snape, but no sign…"
"Of course there isn't," Harry said, who was prone to becoming angry any time someone mentioned Severus. "They won't find Snape till they find Voldemort, and seeing as they've never managed to do that in all this time…"
"Er right." Hannah said shifting uncomfortably. "Do you think we'll be able to see each other before you all run off on the hunt?"
I looked my eyes wide. Merlin I hadn't thought of that. I wouldn't have any girlfriends close by during the hunt and Sirius would be staying back to protect the muggleborns. It would only be Harry, Ron and I. I shook my head thinking of plans and how to put them into place.
"Didn't I tell you?" Ron asked spitting food across the table. Everyone grimaced but knew better than to say anything. He wouldn't care anyway.
"Tell us what?" Neville asked raising his eyebrow.
"Mum invited everyone to Bill and Fleur's wedding." He said between bites of roast beef.
"Yeah you didn't tell them that." I said shaking my head.
"Oops." Sirius snorted and shook his head before popping a grape in his mouth. I frowned thinking why did it feel like I was forgetting something? The past few days was so blurry it was hard to think straight. I thought back biting my lip, what was I missing? My eyes widened and I jumped up.
"Whats wrong Hermione?" Luna asked looking up at me her cheeks pink.
"I just forgot something is all." I muttered rushing out of the great hall. Sirius followed after me a moment later.
"Sweetheart? What is it?" He asked when I stopped by the steps leading to the dungeons. I quickly cast a muffliato charm.
"Severus made me a bunch of potions and looked for different things we might need on the hunt." I said quickly and darted down the steps towards his office. My throat was thick as I quietly headed towards his office. I missed him. I missed my friend.
"Do you know the password?" Sirius asked as we stood in front of the door that led to his office.
"Lily." The door opened at once and I stepped in. Sirius followed a pained look on his face. "You really didn't know Severus loved Lily when you guys were younger did you?"
"Not this much. We all thought it was just a passing crush." Sirius said walking towards the large closet. He opened the doors with a flourish. Bottle after bottle was lined against the wall and I swallowed thickly.
"Do you remember exactly what you asked for?" Sirius asked looking through the bottles a worried frown on his face.
"No it was a huge list and he said he might add more to it." I muttered stepping up next to him. The first that caught my eye was Essence of Poppies. I frowned looking at bottle after bottle. This was so not good. I moved a container of Beetle eyes and saw something that caught my eye. My name written on a paper in tiny cramped writing. I snatched it and quickly opened the paper.
"Sirius its from Severus." I said looking up at my husband. He frowned and looked down at the paper in my hand.
Sirius and Hermione,
Please try to save as many people as you can. I believe I have finally made it up to Lily and James for having a hand in their death. You may not believe it Sirius but I am sorry James died. I do not expect to survive this war. Please take care of each other. You two are my closest friends.
Hermione at the bottom of my cupboard is a mangy old bag. I put an undetectable extension charm on it and placed everything you could possibly need in there.
Sirius I will send you a patronus of the list of muggleborns when the Dark Lord decides to act on them. Have Remus help you. He is the only other I would possibly trust with this responsibility.
May you have a happy life together and many children like I never could.
Severus Tobias Snape
I slipped to the ground clutching the note to my chest tears streaming down my face. He really believed he wouldn't live.
"We have to make sure he lives Sirius." I whispered my voice thick.
"I agree." Sirius said pinching the bridge of his nose and swallowed thickly. "The only question is how."
How indeed.
AN: Please Review! Essence of Poppies is my own potion ingredient. Tell me what you love, what you hate, anything.
