(Three Months later: Mid-late 1996)
"I believe in Miracles. And loootttsss of miraclessss. Yes I believe. I do believe in you and meeeeee." Whitney bellowed out into the microphone on the set of her latest movie, The Preacher's Wife. In the movie, she played Julia Biggs, a mother and dowdy wife of a minister whose marriage is in dire need of a major shakeup. This all changes when an angel, played by heartthrob actor Denzel Washington comes into her and her family's lives to make Christmas magic happen.
Whitney noticed that she could not hit the notes as effortlessly as she usually did physically. Sound wise, she still sounded perfect. However, she herself could feel something was happening inside of her. She also was starting to feel more fatigued than usual…and slightly nauseous. Whitney knew that she was experiencing something that women have that certain intuition about, and she started to get excited at the possibility.
She and Kevin had been married for three months, and they couldn't have been happier with each other. There was getting used to certain living habits, however, it was something that all couples went through when they first got married. They split their time between Whitney's Mendham estate and Kevin's Santa Barbara and Aspen properties. Whitney felt like a queen, with the way that Kevin loved, held and protected her. And Kevin felt the same royal sentiment back, as he now had a lifetime mate that could relate to him, listen, and support his thoughts actions and dreams. They also were getting along well with having a blended family, Kevin's children adored Whitney, and Whitney loved them just as equally back. And although little Krissy loved her biological father, Bobby Brown, she truly knew that Kevin had her heart. Speaking of Bobby (who had secretly married himself), he and Whitney tried their best to have a cordial post-marital relationship in order to set a good example for Krissy. He didn't seemed too thrilled at first that Krissy had taken such a liking to her new stepfather, but Whitney didn't care. She suspected that he was probably a bit jealous that she and Kevin had quickly become one of Hollywood's top "it" couples, something that he seemed to revel in when he was married to her.
As Kevin and Whitney's careers continue to busy them, they did find time to continue to honeymoon and try to make a baby. It was a harder process than Whitney wanted it to be, as she knew how difficult it was for her to get pregnant. She didn't want Kevin to think that something was wrong with her, especially since he had been there when she had had a miscarriage. However, they decided to not think about making a baby and to let things happen whenever God allowed it to. Honestly, once her new movie "The Preacher's Wife" had begun filming, she had forgotten about getting pregnant and tried to put all of her energy in the movie. It wasn't until this point that she had realized that she was experiencing certain symptoms that led her to believe that she was pregnant. And she couldn't be happier if it indeed turned out to be the case. She was glad that CeCe was visiting her that weekend on the set; she needed someone to tell share the exciting news with. And she didn't want to tell her mother, or especially Kevin, until she knew that she truly was expecting.
Once CeCe got on set and hung around with Whitney a bit, she pulled her into her trailer. "Okay, sis. Can I trust you with a secret?" CeCe made an assuring face and nodded her head. "Of course girl. You know that you can always count on me with your secrets." Whitney smiled as she pulled out a pregnancy test that she secretly told her assistant to bring her. CeCe's brown eyes got big "Oh my Lord, girl, nooooo!" She practically shouted. "Are you-" Whitney put her hand to her best friend's mouth. "Girl be quiet!" she told her, half joking. "I'm not sure yet. But I'm pretty nauseous and tired. Plus I haven't gotten my monthly when it usually comes soooo…. I'm gonna take this test, just to see before I tell Kevin or mommy or anyone else." "So if you are, you know… pregnant- how do you think you will feel about that?" CeCe asked her. "Well, this is something that Kevin and I have wanted from the get go. So I would be pretty excited." Whitney couldn't help but smile. "That's so wonderful sis. Well hurry up and take it. I wanna see what kinda gifts that I'm gonna get for my little niece or nephew!" CeCe excitedly said. Whitney cracked up at her friend as she went into the bathroom, seeing how excited CeCe was acting from her usual calm demeanor.
About 30 minutes later, Whitney picked up the box. "Okay, so it says that this test is 99% accurate, so this will pretty much tell me the truth." She nervously looked over at CeCe and then down at the stick she had peed on. "Okay, so one line means yes, and two lines are no." She peered at it and looked up at CeCe with a blank expression. "So…no?" CeCe asked. Whitney broke into a huge grin. "Looks like we better get to shopping. You are gonna be an auntie all over again!" The two of them jumped up and down and embraced each other in excitement.
A few days later, she and Kevin made plans to stay at his place in Aspen for the weekend so they both could be away from their respective movie sets. Whitney wanted to tell Kevin that they were having their first child together in the most perfect way. She had already told her mother Cissy, who was thrilled at having another grandchild. She advised her that she should tell Kevin in the most natural way possible, that way it would be more of a surprise to him. Kevin made them dinner at home and Whitney made a conscious effort to eat more of her vegetables than she usually did and when Kevin offered to make her a light cocktail, she quickly turned that down. Drinking of course, had been something that she cut off immediately after finding out that she was pregnant. She also went cold turkey on her secret, and threw away all usage of the drug contents as soon as she felt the symptoms. She never wanted to harm her baby in that manner. "What's going babe?" Kevin jokingly asked. "You actually eat all of your vegetables this time around and you don't want one of my famous drinks. What did I do this time to make you mad?"
Whitney rolled her eyes, because she knew that he was kidding around and rarely did they make each other angry. "Nothing baby, just trying to watch what I take in. Especially since every other food make me throw up." She hinted on the last part to subliminally give her husband another clue. "Throw up?" Kevin asked. "Are you okay babe? I know there had been a stomach flu going around." Whitney sighed, slightly annoyed that Kevin hadn't gotten her point yet. "I'm okay. I don't think that's it though. I've just been really tired and nauseous lately. Can you believe that?" "MMM hmmm.." Kevin grumbled as his attention focused in on the Michael Jordan- led Chicago Bulls and Penny Hardaway led- Orlando Magic basketball game. Whitney sighed. "And I've picked up some weight. Guess I'm eating too much of what I can actually keep down." She went on. A commercial came on and Kevin turned towards her. "I haven't noticed that, you look beautiful as always" he told her. Whitney straightened up on the couch, tired of the whole "natural" approach already. "Kevin baby, look at me. What do you think is wrong with me?" Kevin studied his wife, thinking about all of the symptoms that she described to him. Suddenly, he got it and his eyes widened further than CeCe's had. "Babe, no! Are you?" he asked.
Whitney nodded and smiled. "I took a test and it said that I was. And I can feel it. I know that I am having your baby Kev." Kevin immediately took her into his arms and passionately kissed her. "I love you, baby and I can't believe that this is happening. Me and you are gonna have something together. Something that nobody can take away from us." Whitney's eyes filled up with tears of gratitude and appreciation as she held Kevin back. "I know, and I'm so happy that I can give this to you. I'm so, so happy."
