For the next month, Whitney and Kevin told the rest of their families and close friends, who immediately started making plans for her baby shower. Whitney soldiered on and continued to shoot for "The Preacher's Wife". Fortunately, she wasn't showing yet and no suspicion had been drawn from the cast and crew. She had already started buying the baby unisex things, until she and Kevin would find out exactly what they were having. Although her career had been her life for the past ten years, being pregnant, a mother and remarried made her reevaluate what made her happy. And she knew that they should and would for now on fulfill her needs of satisfaction and not the drugs that she had secretly been using throughout the years. She decided that she would not pick that "bad habit" back up again.
Kevin had been very supportive of Whitney's pregnancy. He did what was asked and more, such as giving her massages and helping her come up with ideas for the nursery. They told the children that they were expecting a baby brother or sister sometime early next year, and they seemed more excited than they were.
Everything was all great in Whitney and Kevin's worlds. Until one day.
Whitney started not to feel well, as she experienced flu-like symptoms. She took a few days off to give her body some rest, which usually did her some good. However, she did not feel much of a difference. She was restless and knew that something wasn't right about her, nor the baby so she went to see a doctor immediately. The doctor checked her out gave her small prescription and put her a brief bed rest. Although he told her that she was going to be fine and that she should just slow down, Whitney still did not feel easy. She told Kevin this from his set in Oregon. Not wanting to worry her further, he assured Whitney to stay calm and that things would turn out fine. Whitney didn't want to think negative, but she could not settle. "Please God," she prayed as she put her hand on her belly. "Please don't let anything happen to my baby." Unfortunately, the fate of her unborn child started to turn out be her worse nightmare as a few days later, she started to spot and cramp badly. Fortunately, her mother was there to take her to the hospital, where doctors tried to save her baby. However, there was nothing that could be done. The doctors found out that Whitney and Kevin were expecting a little boy- and he did not make it.
Whitney had suffered a miscarriage.
Kevin tried his best to get to his wife as quickly as he could. However, due to heavy snow, flights were delayed. It killed him that he wasn't able to be there with her during this tragic time. He was very upset about losing their son- a son that like his older brother, he never would get to meet on earth. Kevin secretly cried tears of disappointment once Cissy and John had called him to tell him the news while he was en route to coming to Whitney's side. However, as bad as he was feeling, he felt worse for Whitney to have to endure another miscarriage. He partially felt bad, thinking that maybe he somehow pressured her to have a baby too soon into the marriage, especially because Whitney's career demanded so much out of her. Either way, he knew that she was devastated to lose another child and for that, it broke his heart.
Kevin finally arrived early the following morning and rushed in the hospital. He raced up to Whitney's room just as Cissy came out. "How is she?" he asked. Cissy sighed and shook her head. "Not too good right now. She's actually taking it worse than I thought she would. I've been trying to comfort her all night." She looked tired, but as always, Cissy carried an inner strength that couldn't be taken away from her. "She really wants you there, so I'm glad you are here." She went on as she opened the door. Kevin nodded and walked in, putting on his brave face. There laid Whitney, laid on her side, with her eyes closed. Even through everything, she was still beautiful. "Hey darlin'. How are you?" he whispered. Whitney opened her eyes and turned around to face him. As soon as she saw her husband, silent tears once again ran down her face. Kevin laid in bed with her and took her in his arms. "It's okay babe, don't cry. Everything is going to be okay. God just said it wasn't our time yet." Whitney continued to sniff. "I'm sorry Kev. I'm sorry." She whispered. Trying his best to stay strong and hold back his own tears, he wiped her face and looked at her. "Why are you apologizing for honey?" he asked her. "Because it's my fault I couldn't carry our little boy. There's something wrong with me." She told him. She couldn't tell him that she was feeling guilty that this miscarriage had been the same reason her first miscarriage might've happened. She was too ashamed to say that perhaps her usage with narcotics somehow played a role in this and that it was all of her fault.
Kevin on the other hand felt awful that she way blaming herself for everything. "Don't say that Whit," he told her. "It's not your fault and there is nothing wrong with you. I'm sorry if you feel like I pressured you in some way to hurry up and get pregnant, especially with the movie and everything you have on your plate." "I don't feel that way at all." Whitney meekly said. They laid there a few minutes just holding one another. "Please babe. Don't feel guilty. We can try again sometime and I swear, we will get through this together." He finally said. Whitney nodded. I don't deserve such a good husband. I dont deserve to keep anything from him, she thought. But she still didn't want to tell him her deep secret. She knew it would hurt him too much.
