A/N: I am about to finish the first semester of my Master's course! XD
Hopefully the same goes for my chapters. I am now working on the chapters in both Hyakki Yakou route and Fate's Take – over Route as of now. :D
Disclaimer: I don't own anything. Credits go to Kinoko Nasu and TYPE – MOON for Fate/Stay Night, and Hiro Mashima for Fairy Tail.
Chapter 6: Real Hero
Day 0: Evening
As Saber and Shirou now went to the Kotomine Church together with Rin and her Servant that is unseen right now, something about that church has unnerved both Master and Servant as they approach that dark place even closer while Rin paid no mind to what they are feeling right now. Mirajane also tagged along at a distance together with her Servant that has shifted to spirit form just like Archer's.
Saber remembers this place, and it does not place her at ease one bit. This is the place where the Tohsaka Master and the Einzbern Master forged an alliance. The church that she now sees is more sinister than it is back then. But she kept all of what she knows in her unreadable expression, which Shirou is now concerned about.
"Saber, is there something wrong?" Shirou asked. Saber just shook her head.
"This is nothing, Master." Saber replied, to which she earned a sigh from Shirou.
"Like I told you from the start. Please don't call me Master." Shirou replied. "Shirou will be much better."
"Okay, Shiro." She reluctantly agreed, on which the mispronunciation of his name does not go unnoticed by him. They felt sick to the bone as they are nearing the church, to which Rin shrugs it off.
"That's what everyone felt at first." Rin dismissed. "Although he's a horrible excuse for a priest, there's no way he's actually evil. Same goes for his church that reeks of a curse. It may look like that, but I'll bet my life on the line that this place is the safest if ever you decided to withdraw from the war…" Shirou gave an examining look at Rin, which thankfully she caught on. "but I think you don't have any of those plans for now."
"Kirei! Kotomine Kirei!" Rin announced her presence in a loud manner. "Someone is here to register his Servant as the last Servant in the Grail War. And I will drag your sorry behind right here if you don't appear for the next five seconds!"
A candle stand is now lit, as the silhouette of the priest is slowly forming in the form of a man taller than any of them. The man has an empty expression on his eyes, but as soon as he laid eyes on the boy, something about him has piqued his interest. He perfectly hid his interest in his dull expression.
"At last, you have now shown yourself, fake priest." Rin huffed in a tone of displeasure clearly depicting her hatred for that man. The one who has been insulted as a fake priest smirked slightly at the young lady's choice of words.
"And you are as loud as always, Rin. Where's your respect for your mentor?" The priest slightly berated the lady, to which it resulted in the mentioned lady's grumbling. For all that the fake priest has played on her, if there is one thing that she can be begrudgingly grateful for, it is the fact that the priest has taught her to combine her Magecraft with Ba Ji Quan. Magecraft alone is not powerful enough to defeat a Magus, therefore, he or she should surprise his or her opponent by using physical attacks. Magi are too prideful to incorporate physical attacks with their Magecraft, as they are too afraid to sully the craft by combining it with mediocre abilities. Also, Rin learned from the priest that Magi are too arrogant to see something else coming their way, such as explosion on buildings or bypassing self – geas scroll rules. These types of information will now assure that she will be a Magus with a common sense. Her pride as a Tohsaka and on her affinity with the Five Elements is now combined with common modern human sense, making her respectable as a Second Landlord of Fuyuki and as wary of the common schemes as a human.
Turning his attention to the child, he must know what happened to that child's eyes that made him like that. "And what is your name, child?"
"My name is Emiya Shirou, and I am here to register my Servant Saber as the last Servant in the War." Shirou declared without a hint of hesitation. But that is one of the things that he wanted to hear.
His slight interest for the child has now blown in a full revival of his joy. He can't describe how he feels right now to meet the one that bears his former opponent's surname. Saber looked at the man with observing eyes, but miscounted on the fact that his face held a sudden interest for her Master. Something about that man unnerved her, but she does not know what it is. It is better to keep her mouth shut in all of this deafening silence while the priest's face is conveying a vivid color of emotions, which he hid it too perfectly in his professional gait, upbringing and tone in his voice.
"Did you know that someone has made a wish and that it failed?" He has now formulated a plan, and it is time to put it in action. Of course, his choice of words is one of his plans. "It has resulted in that great fire ten years ago. You know that the Grail war is not just any other war. There will be times that you will be forced to kill. Now, I must ask you, what is your wish, Emiya Shirou?
"I don't have a wish." Shirou stated bluntly, which Saber has now averted her eyes on the ground. "I just wanted to put an end to the casualties and save everyone. If that man has made a wish and it caused in a disaster, I am now here to prevent it from happening again." He raised his right hand that now held a crimson glow in it.
Kotomine Kirei now smiled at the boy's determination reflecting in his golden eyes. It really looks just like his opponent's eyes ten years ago. And it is also almost the same ideals that he now has as his father's were. With nothing to lose, he now smirked and proclaimed as they went away from that church.
"Rejoice, Emiya Shirou." Kotomine Kirei declared, with his arms wide open like a welcoming gesture. "For your wish will soon be granted."
As he now lights up the candles, he noticed the wine cellars are all out of wine. His partner must have been enamored by the taste of their wine and decided to own it all for himself.
But it does not matter, for as of now, someone has ignited a spark that has died in him long ago. If he had a heart, it must be pumping in excitement as of now.
The name he thought he will never hear forever now made up its way to his brain once again. Is he the same person as that man? If so, he must also inflict suffering on him to make him just like his father. He calmed himself on the fact that that time will come, soon.
Emiya…Shirou. He ominously thought and granted himself a sinister smile upon his face.
Rin, Shirou, Saber, Archer, Mirajane and Assassin are about to go to their house, when something does not feel right for them. It was then that a mysterious child atop a very large man has appeared from the fog of the night.
"Onii – chan has finally summoned his Servant." The child cheerfully said as all of them are on guard right now for the sudden attacks. "By the way, I am Illyasviel Von Einzbern."
Einzbern? Rin has her jaw dropped at the mention of her name. Einzberns are supposed to be alchemists. And from what she has researched, she found out that they never won a single war, except for the Fourth Grail War that ended in a disaster, leaving no clues on who is the actual winner of that war.
The one who introduced herself as Illyasviel von Einzbern now gave her large Servant the single command that will make anyone stunned if it is said as a joke. "Time to play, Berserker."
The one that is now named Berserker unleashed his feral howl, which led Saber to grip her invisible weapon even tighter. Archer hovered over Rin, while Assassin is now in front of her Master. Saber now goes first with her swift speed accompanied with a burst of light coming from her feet. Archer is now feeling melancholic about his former Servant, Shirou is amazed by his Servant while Rin is now making heads or tails of what happened back there before she realized the ability of the Servant whose Master, in her opinion, can be considered as the weakest in the war.
Prana Burst. It is an ability of some Heroic Spirits to utilize their prana as a boost for their strength, speed or stamina. Some Bursts appear as a pure blinding light, while others take in the form of flames, like the Heroic Spirit Karna. And that Prana Burst that Saber has just demonstrated is an example of the former.
I must stop being like this or else I might really lose the war and lose an opportunity to knock some sense in that boy. Archer shook off his head and began to prepare for what will come his way. His injury from their battle with Saber is not helping him much against this monster.
On the other side, with Prana Burst sustaining her strength and speed, she now aimed for Berserker's weak spots. But every single time she thought she had him at her mercy, Berserker will shrug it off just like playing with one of his toys with a single swift swing of his blade. Saber is flying at the impact, and it took her a few more wounds too close for her comfort sustained from Berserker to know something that she will berate herself for.
"He's not mad as of now, is he?" Saber fully wished that her answer is wrong. Shirou is too stunned to comprehend what is happening. Rin on the other hand is now wide eyed at the realization by what Saber has said. They will really have a hard time if Berserker has now activated the Madness Enhancement. And she will go crazy trying to cook up any plan just to finish off that one. So this is what she means by her words "Time to play, Berserker."
Mirajane could not believe what she is witnessing right now. From what she heard from Zelretch, Berserkers are supposed to have their Madness Enhancement always activated. The only ways to force commands are either through a Command Seal or a strong conviction. But she never heard of a child that can make the Madness Enhancement appear and disappear on a whim.
"Ah, you spoiled the fun." Illya pouted. "But since you will find it out anyway, I have now decided to finish you all. Go mad, Berserker."
His Madness Enhancement now rose up his stats to unbelievable levels, and before they can even run, Berserker is now in front of Saber, swiftly making short work of her by a forceful blow courtesy of his forearm, sending Saber flying on a nearby electric post. It almost cracked her backbone if not for her armor absorbing most of the impact.
Meanwhile, Archer made his weapons appear, and block Berserker's swift blows. Archer can only block the attacks with great finesse. Even with his injury, he still stood up to Berserker, parrying every single blow that comes his way, forcing Berserker to play by his rules. If only I can use my strongest weapon, then I can make short work of him. But I can't do it in front of them, or they might suspect something from me.
Thankfully, help came from above, literally, as Assassin found an opening. She produced one Dirk and aimed it precisely at his weak point. But it is all for naught as it only served to put fuel in Berserker's anger. She prepared for whatever that may come her way, with Berserker swung down his forearm on her. Only Mirajane's boost of prana to sustain her strength stat mitigated the impact.
"You will not win against him." Illya now gloated at her victory as the Servants try to catch their breaths. "He is Heracles, the mightiest hero in Greece!"
At this point they knew that they are now officially messed up. Heracles alone is not a guy to mess with. What more can they do to a mad Heracles? Rin recalled the twelve labours that Heracles faced before he is granted immortality by the gods, but she never knew if he really accomplished it or not. Assassin and Archer are now wounded from that fight, but the most affected of all is Saber. She now has grave injuries on her torso, and she still tries to stand up.
Shirou clenched his fist too hard at the fact that a girl is fighting for him. I don't want to feel helpless anymore. Shirou is now angry at himself for letting a girl like her fight like this instead of him at the frontlines of battle. I want to save her. I really want to save her.
Finally he now snapped. I MUST SAVE HER!
Berserker is now about to deliver the finishing blow to Saber, when she is now stopped in her thoughts by someone in front of her that blocked the attack. The pavement that she is stepping on cracked tremendously at the impact to everyone's surprise. Magi are fairly weak people and cannot put up a decent fight against Servants, right? Then how can this girl appear in a split second that caught the spectators off guard and block Berserker's freaking axe sword with only one hand?
"Who are you, woman?" Even Illya is now stupored by the woman's actions, as she brushed off the impact of the axe – sword. Then finding an opening, she drove closer to it and jumped to his axe sword. She ran along the blunt edge of the axe sword and she jumped once again. She now delivered a quick blow to the Berserker's side and face with her kicks. It is so powerful that even they heard the sound of Berserker's bones cracking from the impact. She somersaulted away from the attacker before bringing Saber to their side once again.
"Mirajane Strauss, Master of Assassin in the Fifth Grail War." She proclaimed as Rin is now stunned, not because of her strength that she displayed against Berserker, but because she declared outright that Assassin is her Servant and that she is a Master. Now all of those who have familiars lurking at every corner right now will have a field day at the wildcard Master, and will try every possible way to kill both of them.
"Well, that simplifies matters. Berserker, finish her off first." Illya commanded as Berserker now charged at Mirajane with all his might.
I never thought that it will be like this. Mirajane has miscounted the fact that she is not in Magnolia as of now, therefore her magic reserves are limited. She can only rely on what she can do right now. Finding a lamp post, she punched the post with all her might, felling the post on top of Berserker's head. Seizing the opportunity, Mirajane kicked the lights out of the post and absorbed the remaining energy. Jumping once again, she tried to land in an electric charged kick on Berserker, when he has found an opening on Mirajane's attack. He grabbed Mirajane's ankle and swung her down on the pavement, before he flung her away. Fortunately Assassin came to her rescue and caught her Master before she can even land on the cracked ground that will guarantee to make her injuries even worse.
Saber has found an opportunity to attack Berserker once again, when she became late by a few seconds as Berserker turned his attention on her. He is about to swing down his axe sword on her when Shirou got in between them, to Saber's and Rin's surprise. But the price is costly, as Berserker's blade sunk in Shirou's torso, the impact of it sending him ramming in a wall. They heard the clear sound of his bones and ribs cracking and his flesh ripped apart at the impact. Even Illya is too stunned at the recklessness of her brother. He is supposed to be heartless as her father that raised him, so why does he do this?
Meanwhile Saber tries to wake up the boy that foolishly saved her from Berserker. This is not how an Emiya is raised in her opinion. The more she thinks about it, the more she is now confused. But as of now, her priority is her Master's survival. She now activated her Charisma through her commanding voice to keep him from dying. "Shiro, keep your eyes open. No matter what happens, DON'T…CLOSE…YOUR…EYES." She now glanced at Rin, who is still in shock from the events that transpired. "Rin, please heal him."
At first, she can't move her limbs, but her will is the only one that made her limbs move forcefully against their will as she begins to heal Shirou. The child of the snow in front of the large man cannot comprehend the events that she saw just now. And for that, she is disgusted by his foolish actions. Thankfully, Berserker's blow just now is of a minimum range due to the three Servants opposing them and giving her Servant fatigue. But still, that action can lead him to a sure death.
"Berserker, let's go." Illya quipped in a disappointed voice. "I've lost interest in them for now. Let's leave them as they are. We can finish them off some other time."
And so, with the end of this battle, the nights of war is just only beginning to unfold.
A/N: Ah, and with this, I finish my 6th chapter. Incidentally, this chapter is placed at a bad number. Same goes for my chapter in Hyakki Yakou route, the Thirteenth Chapter. –evillaugh mode –
I didn't mean it to be intentional. It just so happens to fit right in. XD
I think I made Mirajane a little overpowered than necessary. T.T
Also, I apologize if the chapter came out short. I will edit this and the other chapters if I have the time.
Please rate and review.
