Chapter 7: Dawn of a New War

Day 0:

Mirajane now scratched her head at the impact that she received. Thankfully, Assassin softened the impact by catching her before she falls on the cracked pavements. Obviously Servants are not meant to be underestimated, especially now that she faced the Servant of Fury one on one and yet lived. From her perspective, it seems that they revere Heracles as one of the greatest warriors of their world. If he is not put under a crazed suggestion, she can place that man under a Class S in rank of strength.

"Thank you, Assassin." Mirajane apologized as she got up on her feet and dusted the dirt off her dress. She wiped the trickle of blood on her mouth from Berserker's attacks, before she let out a relieved laugh. "If you are not here, I would have been beaten up to a pulp. I didn't put in the consideration that I am not in Magnolia right now."

"It's all right, Mirajane – san." Assassin waved it off as Mirajane healed herself. "After all, for a wizard, you are really strong. No Magus can ever face off with Berserker and live."

"I must be careful the next time that I will go in battle." Mirajane took a note of it. "Ah, here's the address where we will stay for the duration of the war." She produced a single piece of paper from the folds of her dress.

"Then we must go there as quickly as possible." Assassin suggested. Mirajane then looked around the place where they are as of now. "I don't like this feeling where we stand on."

Mirajane tilted her head in curiosity. "Why is that? I think I don't…"

As soon as she said that, they felt a heavy feeling all around them, like they are going to be crushed by something. Mirajane realized then and there that that place is no ordinary place. Trees never grow in these fields, and corrupted prana is all around that boundary where they are standing on. They left the place in a brisk walk, knowing that the place is somewhat cursed.

Illya has a lot of things going on in her mind right now as she is carried by Berserker all the way to the Einzbern mansion. To say that she is not amused is very underestimating at its most.

For one, she has revealed the identity of her Servant. Sure, it serves as a distraction for them to be confused about the identity of the Servant, but they are honestly afraid of that monster as though what she said is truth. After all, Berserker is Heracles, so anyone who will hear of his name will tremble in front of him and they will disappear in front of his eyes before they can even say the name of the legendary madman.

For another, she saw Saber once again as though she never aged a day. The Grail told her that she is the same Servant as her father has summoned in the last war. Why did this kind of phenomenon happen is out of her comprehension, as she is only attending to the most pressing matter that she has in her whole life since the day that she swore to kill every last person related to Emiya Kiritsugu.

The onii – chan that she hoped her father has raised him like a ruthless person is not raised like that at all. That one sentence still bothers her to no end. Worst of all, it speaks volumes more than the sentence can actually bear, as she saw from the way that her onii – chan has protected Saber with his foolish action of getting in the way of Berserker's attack. Servants are meant to protect their Masters, not the other way around.

Maybe Grandfather is wrong… That quick sliver of hope is now dashed in pieces as she shook her head to regain her original objective. He may be like that from the beginning, but he will show his true colors once she will place her trust in him.

Thankfully, Illya has left the place where Shirou still lies like a corpse, Saber desperately keeping Shirou's eyes wide open, and Rin placing layer after layer of healing Magecraft. For if she turned her back to see the boy once again, she will see Rin's and Saber's stupefied face at what has just happened back there while they glanced at Illya for one last time after looking back again at Shirou.

Rin is about to heal him again when she noticed that Shirou's ribs and muscles have now repaired itself of its grave injuries from Berserker's blade thanks to Saber's touch, and it now stood as clean as it is before Berserker slashed at his side.

As she now arrived in the mansion, she jumped down from Berserker's shoulder and made him shift to spirit form. She now re – applied the Bounded Fields that are around the house. She had Sella and Leysritt remove all the cameras all around the forest and the house to maintain her own privacy, as she believed that her Bounded Fields are topnotch when it comes to surveillance. She considers herself as a Magus after all, even though she is an Einzbern homunculus.

As she entered the conference room, she saw Sella and Leysritt waiting for her return. Even though she is an heir of the Einzbern Magecraft, and so demands proper etiquette befitting of royalty, it seems that formality is not in her dictionary, as she hates servants that treat themselves as servants.

Sella and Leysritt are two of Illya's personal maids, modelled after Irisviel's personal attendants. However at the aftermath of the war, Jubstacheit decided to make some changes in his plans. He took into consideration everything that has happened in the Fourth Grail War, especially the fact that Kiritsugu is about to get the Grail when he ordered their strongest Servant Saber to destroy the Grail. Also, he will not make another homunculus, since he already have Illyasviel as the perfect homunculus to be sacrificed at Heaven's Feel. She only needs some support to let herself be materialized and take form of the Grail.

That is where her attendants will come in.

They will serve as Illya's support for her transition to a Grail through their sacrifices, most especially Leysritt, since she is the strongest model of homunculus that Jubstacheit has ever created. She is also the one who has the right to boast of her appearance as opposed to Sella. She is even given an intricately designed halberd just in case Berserker fails to serve his purpose. But Leyritt's only weakness is that she is never given a proper speech therapy unlike Sella having the ability to speak normally, and so thrived on completing every word with a period that should never be there in the sentences that she forms.

Sella and Leysritt bowed politely to the Einzbern heir, before Sella spoke up first.

"Welcome home, Illyasviel – sama" She politely replied with a curt bow. Illyasviel sat on one of the chairs before she heaved a deep sigh at the inaction of the maids.

"Aren't you going to sit too?" Illyasviel asked. "It will be too much for you if you two will stand around like that."

"That is no hindrance to fulfilling our duties, Illyasviel – sama." Sella hastily explained. "Besides, we only wish for our master's happiness. If she will be happy by what she will do, then we will also be happy."

"If you truly wish for my happiness, then please," Illyasviel scoffed. "sit down on these chairs that I have so graciously offered to you."

"If you wish for us to sit, then we will do so, Illyasviel – sama." They both bowed before she replied in a dismissive tone.

"And let us stop with the formalities. Call me Illya. We are sent here after all to obtain the Grail and kill my adopted brother, am I right, Leysritt?" She turned her gaze towards the voluptuous woman.

She only replied in her still stoic voice. "My. Mission. Is to. Protect Illyasviel – sama." Leysritt tried to convey what she thinks about this matter. She saw that her twin sister Sella is not fond of getting near at the adopted Emiya, and that she will not breathe the same air as him for the same reasons that she has as Jubstacheit also have. But in her opinion, everybody has chances, so why not him? Besides, it is a very good opportunity to know better what happened to her father and how did that kid adopted by her father is very much different from him.

In other words, she only wanted Illya to have friends aside from them. She is slightly happy that she is opening up more from her secluded world. But she is still afraid that if she said what is on her mind right now, Illyasviel will feed her to Berserker's Lion.

"Fair enough. I just wasted Berserker's strength in one day just to see my brother foolishly protect his Servant." The child sighed before she thought up of a really great plan to storm the Ryuudou temple, as it will take her mind off of some of the things that are bothering her right now.

"Let's do something fascinating for a change. We shall storm out on the Ryuudou Temple." She cheerfully replied. "I have heard that the Assassin there is really good. Considering that he is a Japanese legend and that this is his domain, I think I will have more fun beating him than Saber."

Day 1:

Sword…

That sword has enticed him to no end ever since he blacked out.

Or maybe it was way back from Saber's summoning.

That intricately designed golden hilt reminds him of a regal person handling it. Also, it reminded him of its history as the sword set in stone that only the righteous and the chosen person shall obtain it. Ever since the summoning of Saber, that sword became more and more clear to him, to the point that he can grasp it.

The only thing that is stopping him is a stabbing headache as a side effect of knowing that sword. That knowledge alone drives him crazy and it caused him to wake up prematurely. He is about to scream in pain when he felt nothing the moment that his eyes are now opened. He checked his torso, and he found out that he has now been healed completely. He checked his body for signs of superficial healing, but he only felt it as though his body returned to its normal state. He shook his head at that thought and he now decided to cook for the additional guests in his house.

He will apologize for what happened and he crossed his fingers that both Saber and Rin will not throw a fit on him for doing that.

Shirou walked up to the corridors when he saw Rin arranging her clothes in the box. He opened the door completely, and it revealed the lady in red's surprised expression.

"Good morning, Tohsaka." Shirou quipped, to which he received a sly reply from Rin, who still maintained her elegance as a Tohsaka despite the ominous aura that she exudes as of now.

"Good morning to you too, Emiya – kun." She placed her words in a sickeningly sweet voice. "We will talk about what happened yesterday evening later. For now, I want some tea, since I can't find a decent beverage in this house."

"The tea bags are in the cupboard." He deadpanned, now knowing the true colors of Tohsaka Rin when she is not at school. "And it is by chance that I only have a mini – bar in our house due to ojii – san buying it."

"Also, Saber is worried sick." She snapped back to full serious mode, to which he cannot comprehend how the school idol manages her dual personalities really well. "You might as well talk to her before breakfast."

"Ah, right, Saber!" Shirou snapped back as he tries to find her around the house. Rin can only sigh in deep thought at what happened last night. She made a mental note to bring the materials next, as she is about to teach Shirou the proper way of Magecraft.

"Seriously, my good man, you are really dense." She quipped as she is about to finish her package. Little did she know that there is a man who listened to that entire conversation, and that the man is about to remember his sick past as a Hero of Justice.

Shirou is now at a roll in finding Saber around the house. From the kitchen, bathroom, and all other rooms, there are only two rooms that he did not inspect yet. One is his workshop, the other is in…

"The dojo." Shirou thought aloud as he rushed in the dojo that they did not use for a long time. It has a long history of Taiga beating up better kendo artists than her in a single whack. Once she takes hold of that shinai, she acts as though she is a different person.

And by different, he means that she is crazier than ever. In fact, on Emiya Kiritsugu's first try of Kendo, she beat him by a landslide at the cost of bruises all over his body. He does not want to face off against her, now that his foster father hath suffered the boiling wrath and sadism of Tora – Shinai.

There, he saw Saber in a serene silence, as if the whole dojo has fallen silent in reverence to what she is doing as of now. She has her eyes closed in deep contemplation. And he will be the only one to break that. He just decided to leave when Saber called his attention. "Shiro."

Her emerald eyes still held that stoic demeanor, as though she commands him to be here. "Yes, Saber?"

Saber rose up from her seat, then she is approaching close to Shirou. "What you did last night is a foolish action worthy of death. Be thankful that Rin has helped you in your recovery."

He just scratched his head. "Ah, right, I should thank Rin that she healed me completely." Saber's eyes now went to the ground. "What's wrong, Saber?"

"It's just that…" Saber cannot find the words that could match their expressions that night. Saying those words alone is not enough to describe their surprise at what they discovered. "Rin is about to heal you…when your wounds just healed… all by itself. So Rin decided to only cover those with bandages."

"Ah, I see." Shirou nervously laughed as he heard it. "So, does that mean that I can protect you now, Saber?"

At that point, Saber flatly replied. "No."

"B – but you're a girl!" Shirou protested when Saber effectively shut his mouth by what she said next.

"My gender is not a hindrance in the battle, Shiro." She replied obstinately. "If you truly wish to protect me, then I shall train you in the way of the sword. I will let you taste how much pain you shall suffer in the battle, and I will make you wish that you have not protected me."

"Fine by me, then." Shirou replied as he now heard Saber's stomach let out a cute growl. Saber has her cheeks in deep crimson for a short time at the embarrassment. "But before that, I'll make breakfast."

"For once, I agree with you on that one." Saber nodded as they went out of the dojo. "After all, hunger is the enemy."

After a major tongue – lashing that he received courtesy of Rin, he decided that his appetite is lost as of now. Meanwhile, Saber is savouring every food that Shirou serves, and even wants seconds. Just where is she putting all of that? His mind now wanders to a black hole where Saber's stomach is. But then again, he is a half – Magus, so this is the only way that he can provide her with prana aside from sleep.

Fuji – nee will have a competition with Saber if that ever happens. He thought of that but he shook his head of that possibility ever happening.

"By the way, why are you arranging your clothes in our house?" Shirou asked Rin out of curiosity, all the while the news flash is reporting about another gas leak happening in Fuyuki City as of now. Lately, the gas leaks are more and more prominent the more Servants now fight in the war.

"There's a major construction of our house going underway." Rin explained, although it is only a half truth. The real reason behind that is that by the time Archer is summoned and descended like a meteor, almost half of her house is destroyed. It has costed her a lot of jewels for that one.

"Also, I will teach you Magecraft, so the best way to demonstrate it is at your house." Rin explained further. "I'm amazed at your father by the way. The Bounded Fields are still intact although it has been like ten years since you lived here."

Shirou can only laugh nervously as he saw Rin genuinely admiring his father's work. But what Rin did next astounded him.

Ah, it can't be helped." Rin now sighed. "You know next to nothing about Magecraft. So the least thing that I can do to thank you is to teach you the basics of Magecraft. In other words I will be your teacher. Do you understand so far, Emiya – kun?

"I guess so." He will now prepare for the worst day of his life when his Servant and the Tohsaka Heiress decides to live in their house. Moreover, he saw Rin doing anything as she sees fit. He is only hoping that his friend Sakura and his big sister figure Fuji - nee will not find out about this. "So, about the training…"

"We will conduct it tomorrow morning, since I need time to move my tomes and my notes from my house to this house." Rin hastily explained as she puts on her shoes.

"Whatever suits you." Shirou quipped as Rin is about to go away. "Take care, Tohsaka."

Rin can feel the surging heat on her cheeks. She hoped that Shirou will not see this thing, not even Sakura must see that.

Out of curiosity, Rin popped out the question that has been nagging on her head just now. He really did make her swallow her words at what her Archer has demonstrated in battle last night. He is not confining himself in that class. "How come you are using two blades instead of a bow and arrow?"

"Well, it's the one that I am comfortable with. Besides, it's a part of my strategy." Archer casually replied, before realizing what Rin tries to imply.

"Do you doubt my class and my abilities, Master?" Archer asks in an annoyed tone, to which Rin has a better comeback.

"Would it hurt to say yes?" Rin insinuated in an I–know–it–all manner. Archer just scratched his head and mumbled something in an insulted voice.

"Not that it bothers me." Archer grumbled as Rin sensed that she is now in a situation that looks like an ad – libbed slapstick joke show. She smiled slyly at Archer, which sent cold shivers down his spine.

"I'm really glad to have a Master like you, Rin." Archer deadpanned. "If your smile can be used in a war, it will cause them to be sent cowering away at your mercy."

"I do my very best." Rin still had that sweet smile right across her face. "I see, so even Servants have someone to look out for, even though they are only a Magus, or even worse, a human." Rin commented offhandedly, to which it sent Archer back to his serious mood.

"Hey, Archer, snap out of it." Rin waves her hand on Archer's face before Archer saw Rin in his field of vision once again. That line quipped by Rin made him remember a certain someone who he faced off at the end of the Grail War that he participated into.

"Ah, yeah, right. The plan." Archer mumbled out of the blue as they are nearing their house.

"I must say, the injury you got from Saber seeped through your mind deeper than I thought." Rin replied happily. "And that is in addition to your dive – in to my living room at your summoning."

Little did she know that Archer is now putting the pieces together and forms a plan to kill the being that calls himself a "Hero". Of course, he will let him fight, but it will be only for a short amount of time. He doesn't want Rin to be involved in his fight with his self, and decided to keep her out of it when that time comes.
