AN: I will be taking breaks on the weekends so that I don't get Harry Potter burn out. I'm still trying to do everything I can to finish this story by the new year. The ones who will live and die are set in stone, same with who will kill whom. Also I'm pretty set for the permanent injuries that can't be healed by magic. This story won't last much longer since its getting close to the end. Once again anything you recognize is JK Rowling's anything you don't is mine.
Neville POV
I ran as hard as I could panting out a desperate breath, Hannah at my side. It had finally happened. The Carrows were willing to kill us to finally put a stop to Dumbledore's Army. Well either kill us or send us to Azkaban.
"Where can we go?" Hannah asked, her face red. We were running as hard as we could to keep away from the Carrow supporters.
"We'll kill you you filthy blood traitors!" Pansy shrieked throwing a spell. I grabbed Hannah and pushed her through a trick wall. She disappeared from view and I followed a moment later.
"Where are we?" She asked looking around. I pulled out my wand and whispered "Nox".
"One of the many hidden hallways of Hogwarts." I muttered walking up a steep incline trying to ignore the dank and mossy stones. "I have the perfect place to hide... we just need to get there."
"And where is that?" Hannah asked, pushing her sweaty hair out of her eyes.
"The Room of Requirement. It's the only place we can really go and keep an eye on things." I said coming to a stop at what looked like a solid wall.
"Brilliant." She whispered her eyes widening in surprise.
"I'm going to go out there and check to make sure the coast is clear." I said taking a deep breath.
"No I'm going with –"
"Hannah, don't fight me with this please." I said turning to her.
She opened her mouth to argue then shook her head. "Fine."
"Thank you." I whispered kissing her softly then pulled away. "I'll let you know if the coast is clear."
"Be careful." I nodded and gave her a smile.
I took a deep breath then walked through the solid wall. My heart was hammering in my chest but no one was around. I let out a heavy breath and smiled.
"THERE HE IS!" A voice shrieked. I looked up. Bloody hell it was Millicent and Crabbe. I turn and ran as hard as I possibly could. Hannah would be safe in the hidden wall. She would come to the Room of Requirement when she could. We still had our Galleons and I would send her a message when I got there.
"GET BACK HERE, LONGBOTTOM!" Shit! The Carrows were after me now too. I only had one chance.
"Confringo!" I shouted throwing the spell over my shoulder. Screams sounded behind me but I ignored them. I had finally reached the seventh floor.
"LONGBOTTOM!" I turned and threw Peruvian Instant Darkness Powder down the steps. It exploded and the whole lower floor filled with thick dark smoke.
I ran back and forth in front of the blank wall. I need a place to live that the Carrows or any of their supporters can't get into. I thought it repeatedly running back and forth. Suddenly a large wooden door appeared and I ran in there. The door slammed shut and I fell against it my breath rushing out. I made it! I pulled out my coin and quickly sent a message to Hannah.
Got to the Room of Requirement. Wait an hour then come.
I looked up from my coin and looked around the room. Gryffindor hangings were draped all over the walls. A large hammock was in one corner and a couch in the other. This was perfect. I could easily live here for however long I had to.
Hermione POV
I walked out of Shell Cottage with Griphook glaring at my body. Fleur had given me a black dress and I had changed into it before I took the polyjuice potion. Bellatrix's body was much curvier than mine and had split the dresses in some places.
Sirius, Harry and Ron were standing around and talking quietly their heads bowed together. Sirius had changed his hair to a mousy brown and had a thick beard. Ron's hair was more of a reddish brown color while his eyes were no longer blue but gray. They looked nothing like themselves.
Harry turned towards Griphook and I his eyes darkening with hate.
"She tasted disgusting, worse than Gurdyroots!" I spat still glaring at my hands. Bellatrix had long sharp nails and they were hard to stop looking at. In a way these hands had tortured me.
"She still probably wasn't as bad as Crabbe." Ron said running a hand through his hair.
"We should get going." Sirius said pulling out his gold pocket watch. The stars were just fading from the sky. We wanted as much time as possible to get out the horcrux once we got inside the vault.
The five of us slowly walked towards the edge of the yard and stepped outside of the boundary wall of the Fidelius Charm.
"I should climb up now, Harry Potter, I think?" Griphook asked. Harry bent down and the goblin clambered onto his back, his hands linked on front of Harry's throat. Harry made a face as I pulled out the Invisibility cloak and threw it over them.
"Perfect," I muttered sighing. "I can't see a thing. Let's go."
I closed my eyes and concentrated on the Leaky Cauldron as hard as I could. My heart pounded hard in my chest as I opened my eyes. Muggles bustled around on the street deep looks of concentration on their faces as they made their way to work.
I turned to Sirius and smiled. He blinked and shivered slightly then whispered in my ear. "I hate that you look like her."
"Me too." I muttered walking into the Leaky Cauldron my shoulders thrown back. Tom, the bartender, was polishing some glasses.
"Madame Lestrange." His eyes widened and he quickly bowed his head.
"Good morning." I said automatically. He jerked in surprise and Ron and Sirius bumped into me at the same time.
"Too polite." An invisible voice said. "You have to treat everyone like scum!"
"Okay, okay!" I muttered striding out of the bar. Sirius pulled out his wand and tapped the middle brick. A hole appeared and quickly grew in size. We walked through the desolate streets and I kept my head high.
Ragged people covered in bandages drew back into the shadows hiding from me. What in the world?
"My children," a man bellowed coming up to me, pointing at me. His voice was cracked, high-pitched, he sounded distraught. "Where are my children? What has he done with them? You know, you know!"
"I–I really—" I stammered nervously. What could I possibly say?
The man suddenly lunged at me his eyes slightly mad. His hands went to wrap around my throat. There was a loud bang then a flash of red light. Sirius and Ron were standing with their wands drawn. The had saved me.
I turned to look at Ron my eyes widened in shock. His ears turned red and I smiled at him. I turned to Sirius and was about to ask him if we should try a different plan when a loud voice spoke behind me.
"Why, Madam Lestrange!" I whirled around and froze. A tall, think wizard with a crown of bushy gray hair and a long, sharp nose was striding toward them.
Should I know him? My eyes drifted over him. He didn't look like a Death Eater. I drew myself up to my full height and sneered at him.
"And what do you want?" The man stopped in his tracks, clearly affronted.
"He's another Death Eater! His name is Travers." Harry hissed in my ear. I froze my heart hammering in my chest.
"I merely sought to greet you," Travers said coolly, "but if my presence is not welcome ..."
"No, no, not at all, Travers," I said quickly trying to cover up my mistake. He made small talk with me. I introduced Sirius and Ron as brothers from Transylvania.
I tried everything I could to shake off Travers but he wouldn't leave me alone. It was almost like he was following me. Travers, Sirius, Ron and I made our way towards Gringotts my heart hammering in my chest. This was it no turning back. My eyes automatically flicked over to the words on the side of the building.
Enter, stranger, but take heed
Of what awaits the sin of greed
For those who take, but do not earn,
Must pay most dearly in their turn.
So if you seek beneath our floors
A treasure that was never yours,
Thief, you have been warned, beware
Of finding more than treasure there.
Sirius POV
The cart hurtled down the tracks. Hermione had her eyes firmly shut and was slightly green. Even as Bellatrix it seemed she had a weak stomach for these types of things. It was a very tight squeeze in with the six of us in the cart. Hermione was on my lap and it took everything inside of me not to push her off. I loathed that she looked like Bellatrix. It took everything in me not to do anything to her.
"NO!" Griphook yelled making me look up. A large waterfall was pounding on the track. Griphook tried the breaks but the cart continued forward as if it had a mind of its own. We hurtled through the water and I gagged on it.
Then, with an awful lurch, the cart flipped over and we were all thrown out of it. Hermione shrieked out a spell as the cart smashed against the wall. When we finally reached the ground the stone floor was soft and squishy.
"C–Cushioning Charm," Hermione spluttered, as Ron pulled her to her feet. I stood up slowly then turned back to Hermione. Shit! She and Ron looked normal.
"The Thief's Downfall!" Griphook said, clambering to his feet and looking back the flood of water falling onto the tracks, which had been more than water. "It washes away all enchantment, all magical concealment! They know there are imposers in Gringotts, they have set off defenses against us!"
Hermione quickly checked for her beaded bag and Harry pulled out the Invisibility Cloak and sighed in relief.
Harry quickly Imperiussed Bogrod, the goblin, again and we quickly made our way to the vault. A large dragon guarded it but some little trinket that made noise made it back off. Griphook forced Bogrod to stroke his fingers against the large wooden door. The door simply melted away to reveal mountains of gold coins, rare gems, suits of armor and skins of rare animals.
"Search fast!" Harry yelled looking around the room. Harry had explicitly described Hufflepuff's cup but the problem was that it might not be the cup.
Suddenly the door shut and we all jumped in surprise.
"No matter, Bogrod will be able to release us!" Griphook said as Ron gave a shout of surprise. "Light your wands, can't you? And hurry, we have little time!"
"Lumos!" We all shouted. Nothing looked anything like the cup or anything from Ravenclaw.
"Harry, could this be—? Aargh!" Hermione screamed in pain, I grit my teeth as my own hands burned as if my hand had touched a hot stove. I barely noticed the cup fall to the floor with thirty fake one bursting from it.
"It burned me!" Hermione moaned, sucking her blistered fingers.
"They have added Germino and Flagrante Curses!" Griphook yelled. "Everything you touch will burn and multiply, but the copies are worthless — and if you continue to handle the treasure, you will eventually be crushed to death by the weight of expanding gold!"
"Okay, don't touch anything!" Harry said desperately, I tried not to move but one of the fake cups hit my foot. It burned as if touched by a branding iron and I gasped in pain.
"Stand still, don't move!" Hermione shrieked, clutching at Ron who had been falling.
"Just look around!" Harry yelled. "Remember, the cup's small and gold, it's got a badger engraved on it, two handles—otherwise see if you can spot Ravenclaw's symbol anywhere, the eagle—"
We directed our wands into every nook and crevice, turning cautiously on the spot. It was impossible not to brush up against anything; Harry sent a great cascade of fake Galleons onto the ground where they joined the goblets, and now there was scarcely room to place our feet, and the glowing gold blazed with heat, so that the vault felt like a furnace. My wandlight passed over shields and goblin-made helmets set on shelves rising to the ceiling; higher and higher he raised the beam, until suddenly it found something. My heart slammed in my chest and I gasped.
"It's there, it's up there!" I shouted. The cup was above a precarious hill of gold on a shelf.
"How are we going to get it?" Harry muttered his eyes wide.
"Accio cup!" Hermione shrieked snapping her wand through the air. Nothing happened.
"What about the sword?" Ron asked keeping his arms away from his body trying to balance. "Can you touch it?"
Hermione quickly pulled it out of her bag and tossed it to Ron. He plunged it into the pile of metal and whooped when nothing happened.
"I have an idea... Levicorpus!" Hermione shouted pointing her wand at Ron. He soared through the air by his ankle. He somehow hit a suit of armor and fifteen more exploded from it. Hermione and Harry shrieked in pain. I could barely breathe through the heat and pain. It was like a furnace in here.
Harry and Griphook were yelling at each other but I was in so much pain I couldn't pay attention to what they were saying. We somehow made it out of the vault but Griphook had run off with the sword. Ron held tightly to Hufflepuff's cup and Harry was supporting Hermione who was covered in red welts.
"Take her." Harry whispered his eyes pained. I pulled her into my arms and she leaned heavily against my side.
"Thieves! Thieves! Help! Thieves!" Griphook yelled.
"Son of a bitch!" I yelled trying to keep Hermione steady. Some goblins started to run at us their faces fierce. Bloody hell!
"I have and idea!" Harry yelled then pointed his wand at the dragon and yelled, "Relashio!"
The cuffs broke open with loud bangs.
"This way!" Harry yelled, and still shooting Stunning Spells at the advancing goblins, he sprinted toward the blind dragon.
"Harry—Harry—what are you doing?" Ron yelled.
"Get up, climb up, come on—" Harry yelled climbing onto the dragon's back. Ron and I exchanged a look of surprise before climbing onto it.
"Hermione!" She stood next to the dragon a look of fear in her eyes.
"No fucking way!" She yelled her eyes flashing. My eyes widened in surprise. I had never heard her say that word outside of our bedroom.
"Baby –"
"NO!"
"Hermione climb on!" Harry yelled his eyes flashing red. She froze and swallowed thickly before climbing between Ron and I.
"I'll keep you safe Baby." I whispered wrapping my arms around her.
Severus POV
I poured out the last bottle of alcohol and watched it run down the drain. No more. I couldn't keep drinking like I had been. All it had done was make me feel worse anyway. Besides I needed to be on my guard at all times and hadn't been as of late.
"Severus?" I looked up from the bottle at Albus' portrait.
"Yes?" His eyes were twinkling and it was making me nervous. Nothing ever good came out of his mouth when his eyes twinkled.
"I'm proud of you." I froze and watched him surprised.
"Thank you Albus." I muttered smiling slightly.
"I should get going dinner will be starting soon." He nodded and I walked out the door my cloak billowing behind me.
The halls were practically deserted. Filch was scrubbing at one of the walls that had another D.A. note on it. They usually put a permanent sticking charm that made it especially hard to get off.
The Great Hall was quiet and subdued. No one made too much noise for fear of the Carrows. Most of the students had the Cruciatus Curse on them at least once.
I sipped my black coffee my eyes flicking back and forth across the room. Some students were whispering excitedly together. Had I missed something?
Suddenly the doors to the Great Hall opened with a great crash. Terry Boot came running into the room his eyes wide with excitement.
"Harry, Ron, Hermione and Sirius broke into Gringotts and escaped on a dragon!" I spat out the coffee I had been drinking and coughed to clear my throat. Alecto patted my back while Amycus jumped up his eyes dark. Bloody hell I picked a bad day to quit drinking.
Ron POV
I could hear Hermione muttering repeatedly, her body shaking in fear. "I hate flying, I hate flying, I hate flying."
It was a good thing Sirius had his arms wrapped tightly around her or she would probably be even worse off than she was. We all knew Hermione was afraid of heights. She had always been afraid of heights.
The sun was low in the sky when something seemed to be different. "Is it my imagination or are we losing height?"
Harry looked over the side of the dragon. It was flying over a large lake its wings flapping back and forth.
"I say we jump when it gets low enough!" Harry called back to us. "Straight into the water before it realizes we're here!"
I could feel Hermione nod against my back where it was pressed against me. She had stopped crying at some point but wasn't sure how long ago it had been.
"NOW!" Harry yelled diving into the water. Sirius, Hermione and I followed.
The water was absolutely freezing but wasn't as deep as it looked. Sirius started to swim towards the opposite side of the dragon and I followed. The last thing I wanted was for the dragon to decide we would make a good snack.
Thick mud and weeds were wrapping around my legs the closer I got to shore. I finally flopped onto the ground spitting out a mouthful of mud.
Hermione quickly pulled out her purse and started pulling out different things. She passed me a blue bottle, "It will help with the burns."
I nodded and dabbed some of the strong smelling liquid over my body. Sirius threw his head back and swallowed a shot of Firewhiskey while Harry quickly changed out of his clothes while Hermione pointedly looked the other way.
"Well, on the upside," I said after a long moment, "we got the Horcrux. On the downside—"
"—no sword," Sirius spat pulling off his shirt to reveal a myriad of burns across his chest.
"No sword," Hermione repeated. "That double-crossing little scab... "
I pulled the Horcrux from the pocket of the wet jacket I had just taken off and set it down on the grass in front of us. Glinting in the sun, it drew the other's eyes as they swigged their bottles of juice or shots of Firewhiskey.
"At least we can't wear it this time, that'd look a bit weird hanging around our necks," Hermione said her eyes shining.
"That's true but –" Harry started then his eyes rolled into his head and he passed out. Hermione screamed and dropped her beaded bag while Sirius jumped up and slapped lightly at Harry's cheek trying to make him come to.
Harry's eyes snapped open but the were blood red. He thrashed around in Sirius' arms and suddenly threw back his head and shrieked with rage.
"Harry!" Sirius yelled shaking him. Harry's eyes suddenly snapped open and he panted his face white.
"He knows." His own voice sounded strange and low after Voldemort's high screams. "He knows about the horcruxes and he's going to check where the others are, and the last one," he was already on his feet swaying slightly, "is at Hogwarts."
