Chapter eight-A Hunt Begins
Takashi was walking with Saya and Shizuka. The rest of their group was following them. They just came from an abandoned police department, getting more equipment that the place contained.
Luckily for them, it still held various weapons that they could use. Expect for Kohta, who didn't seem that thrilled at seeing the weapons. Kohta noticed them, but he…didn't care to wield them anymore.
It would seem that using his armaments was showing how much more useful they were. He didn't seem to tire out as much and they didn't seem to ruin as much as a normal weapon.
Now having a little time to think on this information including what happened earlier. Made Takashi realize how much they were going to depend on Kohta, more than how they he depends on them.
"What's on your mind, Takashi?" asked Saya, seeing the thoughtful look on their leader's face.
"About Hirano," Takashi answered.
Shizuka was a bit confused at the reply, not fully understanding. As for Saya, she understood what he was talking about.
"You're afraid of him leaving us," Saya stated seriously.
"Yes," Takashi nodded. "Even though we can handle ourselves against 'them' okay. It can't be said about the infected, those things are on a different level…I mean. Sure we could handle a couple of walkers if we're careful, but what the higher level ones?"
"Your right about the Walkers," answered Saya. "They are like an upgraded 'them' working together, but things like the Brawlers, and Juggernauts are a different matter. They are too strong to be taken down by anything we have this moment. Then there's the evolved with have to deal with. They are such an unknown factor in this. We can't predict their motive right now."
Shizuki looked downcast at the reply, knowing how much danger that spells for them. Not including the other people out there.
Takashi nodded, "Right, I'm worried about the evolved right now."
"Why is that?" questioned the blond nurse, confused at the reply.
"Remember the last time we seen them," Takashi replied to both women, who nodded at that.
"They were in a hurry to attack bases, so if they are done with that."
"They might turn their attention to us, or more importantly to Hirano," a frowning Saya stated seriously.
"But, they can't find him…could they?" Shizuki was so unsure about that. As from that information they had, the evolved or their leaders had ways of finding their prey.
Even Hirano had that ability at his disposal right now.
"Plus, we have left clues," Takashi pointed out.
"Your right," agreed Saya. "From what happened at the mall. It might get their attention; I'm also guessing that they might not leave us alone. Or more importantly, Hirano snice he might have the potential to take them on."
That reply made them even more scared. Things could take a turn for the worse.
As for the other members of the team, the only one who notice the trio's talk was Kazuyoshi. He could guess what they were talking about.
'Most likely about Hirano,' thought the young man. 'As it stands now, he might be the only one who could stop the infected and evolved.'
From what he knows, Kohta has that potential to do that. But at the same time, he has the possibly to change sides. His mental status was bordering on snapping. His episode at the mall proved that.
Kazuyoshi sighed at it all. 'It just keeps getting problematic for us.'
Soon the group reached a neighborhood. It was then they heard yelling.
"Come on! Let me back in!" screamed a woman, clearly enraged.
Rei perked at hearing this voice. She ran toward it. The others followed her, wondering what was up.
"Mom!" she screamed at seeing an older woman who, looked her, but older and shorter hair.
Miyamoto Kiriko turned around, seeing her daughter.
"Rei, is that you?" she asked in disbelief at seeing her daughter.
"It is mom!" Rei replied happy.
Kiriko smiled at seeing it was indeed her only offspring. Soon she was embraced by her offspring.
Soon the rest of Rei's group appeared.
"Takashi, your still alive. Thank goodness you're doing good," Kiriko replied to young man.
"With everything that's been going on," Takashi sighed out.
Kiriko nodded, understanding with what's been going on.
"So what's going on here, mom?" Rei asked her mother while releasing her embrace.
"I went out to get some food for the group in this house, but for one reason or another. They won't let me back in," Kiriko explained to the group with a huff.
"It might be best if we leave," Kazuyoshi stated.
Kiriko looked conflicted on what to do. She couldn't leave them, but…
"Are you going?" Rei's mother asked.
"We're going to an elementally school, there they will evacuate us to a safe location," Rei answered.
Kiriko hummed in thought.
"Also, dad might be there," Rei commented hopefully at finding her father.
That sealed the deal for Kiriko.
"Okay, but let me tell them about it," Kiriko replied.
"Okay," Takashi nodded in understanding.
Kiriko yelled out to home, but no one answered. Kiriko sighed at their choice. Reluctantly, she left with group to the elementally school.
"So mom," Rei said. "How much do you know about the situation?"
"I know it's bad, but those walking corpses don't seem so bad. If you watch out for them."
Rei's group winched a little. Knowing that the woman was lucky not seeing the other faction.
"What else is going on?" Kiriko demanded, seeing their reaction. She knows something is going on by their looks.
"Mom, you don't know the other player at work," Rei sighed while running a hand through her hair.
Kiriko raised an eyebrow at the reply.
Rei proceed to tell her story of what happened so far.
(Abandoned base)
Pariah had his eyes closed, focusing on the hive mind. It was the same way he knew about various infected getting killed. He had to make sure it wasn't anything else was going after them.
Even though he could do this, he didn't have the control like his mother. It was like Mercer when he controlled the infected.
"Pariah-sama, I have the report from Bokuden and Ryu," Marko appeared before his leader, looking shaken.
"Yes," Pariah replied while looking at his informant.
"Your suspicion about that Hirano Kohta was right. His is like Mercer or Heller," Marko stated completely serious.
"This changes things, if he opposes us. He could be a problem with that power to evolve at an incredible rate," Pariah muttered, knowing how prototypes thrived on conflict.
"Marko," Pariah said. "I want every evolved to be careful around him. Don't fight him unless it's absolutely necessary."
"Sir, is because he might get stronger if he…consumes us?" Marko asked.
"Yes, plus he will learn from whom his eats. We can't have that risk, so give that order right away," Pariah ordered firmly.
Marko simply nodded and ran off.
'So a prototype is running around out there, besides Heller,' thought Pariah. 'He might be a formable opponent, if he fights against us. Or he might be an ally…too soon to tell, either way we must be cautious with him.'
He knows what a prototype can do, from reading the reports about Mercer and Heller. They were like him, but not as strong. Though they could gain the strength to oppose him with time, as they evolve.
"So what will you do Kohta Hirano? Will you join us or be a thorn in my side," the evolved's leader spoke out. Pondering on what will happen with Kohta and what it means for him and his group.
(With Taksahi's group)
Kiriko was shocked at being told about the infected.
"I know that there was talk of bases being attacked, but I thought it was done by 'them'. Not a different group, this makes things worse," Kiriko muttered with a hand on her chin.
She then looked at Kohta, trying to digest him being different. He looked like a normal person, but wasn't. She did get a feeling he was strong, but didn't think he was strong as they told her.
"We need to alert the right people right away," Kiriko commented, knowing they need to get the word out.
"That's what we're trying to do, but with what we've ran into. It's slowed us down," Takashi replied with a sigh.
Even his group nodded in agreement at their misfortune.
"That leaves Hirano-san," Kiriko muttered. "How do we keep him safe? I think those evolve might be coming after him and soon."
"That's what we also thought," Kazuyoshi stated. "He has the potential to stop them, but…" he couldn't say the other problem with Kohta.
It was part of him going insane and joining the evolved or not do anything to help.
Kiriko seemed to catch that part, she knows in difficult situations can bring the worse in people. As the current events were taxing to anyone.
"Let's get the elemerty school and plan our next move," Saya stated, changing the subject.
"Agreed," Kiriko nodded taking place to help defend the group, along with the rest.
With some luck, they made it to the school. Around there were various 'them' active, along with some down.
Takashi waved everyone to group around a corner. They closed in and listened in.
"Looks like they have a perimeter set up," Takashi whispered to his group.
Kazuyoshi nodded. "It's safe to assume that there are people there. If so, we need to be careful not to get shot. They might be…cautious of people," he whispered.
The group knew what the young man was talking about. There might be raiders all round.
Alice looked a little lost, but noticed a person missing.
"Where is Kohta-oniichan?"
That made everyone tense, they could now see the otaku was missing.
Takashi stiffened. "Don't tell me…"
Saya looked toward the entrance, seeing less 'them" "He did."
Takashi sweat-dropped. "Why am I not surprised. How does he move so fast?"
"I'm sure myself," a voice answered behind the group.
There were screams of surprise.
Rei trilled around with her spear at the ready.
Kohta stared at Rei blankly. "Nice greeting."
"Don't do that!" Saya screamed with a throbbing vein. "Are you trying to give us a heart attack!"
Kohta did look a little sheepish at outburst.
"Um…let's try to enter the school now?" Toshimi asked nervously, unsure about this little show that happened.
"I agree, let's get back getting into that school," Takashi replied with a sweat-drop.
His group nodded, getting back to their mission. It was now safer with less 'them'. They continued there walking toward the gates.
As for the people keeping watch in the gates, they were confused at seeing various walking corpses gone.
"I'm telling you. There more of things out there," a man exclaimed while pointing outside the gates.
"Sure thing," replied a woman armed with a makeshift spear.
The man was about to talk to the lady, but stopped. He spotted Taksahi's group.
"Who are you?" he called out to the group, with his weapon ready. They had to be careful as their raiders out there that would kill them to take their stuff or just kill them for the thrill.
"I'm Komuro Takashi," Takashi answered. "We're here for the evacuation."
"How did you find out?" asked the woman this time.
The two groups talked, unaware of a shadowy person watching this from a window.
"So that's the so-called prototype," said the person, clearly male. He darkly chucked while looking at Kohta.
"I don't see the big deal. Sure I can tell he's strong, but not where we have hide for him," the evolved muttered. "So I'll take care him."
The evolved walked downstairs, if he was going to fight Kohta. He needed to make sure that sniper wouldn't interfere with it.
They had a sniper in the lower part of the school. As to protect them from those failures, but not from his kind.
"He will make a nice snack," the evolved smirked at having a lite snack.
(With Taksashi's group)
Lucky for the group, they were allowed in.
"Is my father, Miyamoto Tadashi here," Rei asked the two.
"I'm sorry," answered the lady. "But you missed him."
"What happened?" Rei's mother asked while Rei looked saddened.
"He went out to check up on a group of JSDF. He wasn't sure about it, but said it might be important," she answered.
"Important, how?" Rei asked.
"That they were trying to find this place or something keeps getting in the way. So he left to see if could help," she explained.
"Just like Tadashi," Kiriko muttered with a sigh.
Even her daughter agreed with that.
"A lot of good that will do," replied a voice.
Everyone looked to see a young man with jeans, a black shirt with a black cap. He seemed to be staring at Takashi's group, mainly at Kohta. Who seemed on edge at seeing this stare.
"Why are you here, Enki?" asked the man, confused seeing their newest member.
"Easy your stupid human," he sneered at the man. "I'm here to fight this so-called prototype." He pointed at Kohta.
The man and woman were lost at hearing this term. As for Takashi's group, they were on edge. Not many should know what guy was talking about.
"I don't know what you're going on about, Enki. But, your pushing your luck! Stop this right now," the lady commanded to the young man, who only laughed.
"What's so funny?!" questioned the man, gripping his weapon. They knew this guy was odd, but this.
"I'll show you, how ignorant you really are!" Enki stated while his arms become swords.
Both the man and woman screamed at seeing this change. Suddenly, Enki was in front of the man.
"Your nothing to me, but food to my kind," he spoke quietly at shivering man. "Now get out of my way or I'll kill you like that sniper we had."
The man slowly moved off to the side, as he didn't know what chance he of taking him on. Sure he took on 'them', but this…monster seemed on a different level.
"Nice choice, I don't have time to deal with a pest right now," Enki replied with smile, walking toward Kohta.
"Is that an evolved?" Kiriko asked with her spear ready.
"Yes," Takashi answered. "But why is one here? I thought they were attacking bases."
"Easy, we're done with that job," Enki simply answered.
Everyone looked shocked at the reply.
"Please," Enki sighed. "I can hear you, as you're not that far off."
Everyone sweat-dropped at the reply. They should have known. As for Kiriko, she pointed her spear at the evolved.
He laughed. "You're thinking of taking me on…please! You're out of your league with me!"
Kiriko glared at smart mouthed punk, she had her share of them from days as a policewoman. But she showed them who was boss, this would be no different!
With impressive speed, Kiriko charged at the evolved.
"Wait!" cried out Takashi, to stop Rei's mother from making a mistake. She heard of what they could do, but she didn't understand that they were dangerous. If Hirano was anything to go by.
Enki smirked, waiting. When Kiriko was close enough, he kicked her. This kick was so fast and powerful that it snapped the spear Kiriko was using! The air even rippled around the kick while it landed in Kiriko's midsection.
Kiriko cried out while flying back from the force of the blow.
"Mom!" Rei screamed, scared that her mother was knocked back like a…ragdoll.
Kiriko went into a roll, slowing down her momentum. It helped to stop her flight, but she could feel her entire midsection scream in pain.
"Damn, he hits like a damn mule," Kiriko muttered holding her midsection. "They weren't lying about their strength! I've never known anyone have that kind of power."
Everyone, but Kohta went to Kiriko's side. As for the otaku, he glared at the evolved. Slowly, he put down his guns, and armed his tendrils.
The man and woman screamed at seeing this. Even Kiriko looked shocked, she knew about them, but to see them…
"So," Enki smirked. "You're going to fight me. Let's see if your so-called prototype status is worth barraging about!"
The evolved leaped at Kohta, who didn't waste any time. He launched a barrage of tendrils at Enki.
"To easy!" Enki screamed, dodging the tendrils with surprising speed. He didn't stop his movement toward Kohta.
Kohta cursed while getting out of the way. It worked, Kohta winched at seeing chipped cement from the evolved's blow.
'He's fast and strong! He might be fast as a brawler, but not as strong as a juggerut. However, that doesn't matter! He knows how to fight, where I don't really know how,' thought Kohta, knowing their differences. He may have experience in long range combat, and some CQC. But, it might not be enough.
"Where is that officer!" screamed the woman, looking at school.
As for the man, he looked in the building. "What the hell?! There's no one there!"
"What?!"
Takashi's group heard this and became scared.
"That evolved must have killed him," Kazuyoshi muttered, enraged.
Saya nodded. "He didn't want anyone interfering with his fight. But why is one here? I don't like it." She looked to watch the two fighting.
Kohta tried again with tendrils, but got the same result.
"Is that all you can do!" Enki sneered. "It's pathetic! Your nothing, but waste of Blacklight! I'll show how a real apex predator fights!"
Enki closed the gap between himself and Kohta. Kohta raised his hands to block, but Enki got under his guard with a kick. Kohta felt the air rush out of his lungs.
Toshimi wanted to help, but couldn't! This was one fight that was beyond them.
Enki didn't waste time. He speared Kohta's right arm.
Kohta screamed in pain. Blood poured out of the wound. Enki pulled out his sword and grabbed Kohta's head with his swords, despite its difficulty.
"Going up," Enki muttered, with a flip. He used the momentum to throw Kohta into the school's upper section.
Kohta landed into the school, implanted the wall. He muttered a curse recovering. He pulled himself out, falling to the ground. He landed with his claws out. A crater formed from the landing.
Enki smirked. "So you can change your armemts, but will that be enough."
Kohta glared with a charge at the evolved. Enki meant Kohta's charge with one of his own.
The clash of steel rang in the air. As Kohta's claws meet Enki's swords. Kohta was able to get a slash in, but knows it will that more than that to stop Enki.
As for the evolved, he leaped away for another hit and run attack. Kohta switched over to his hammerfist, thinking of a different plan. When close enough, Kohta used his hammerfist on the evolved.
Enki's trek was stopped by small quacks caused by the hammerfist. It felt like his whole body was creaking from the force.
Even the tremors were felt by everyone close.
"Damn," he cursed. "I should have known it would be like taking on that crazy Naoe!"
Kohta raised an eyebrow at hearing the name, but didn't stop attacking. He launched at barge of spikes. They pieced the evolved. Acting quickly on this opening, Kohta switched over to his claws and pounced.
Enki didn't have enough time to dodge, he only braced for impact. He gave off a grunt of pain as Kohta dig into his shoulders. Kohta didn't stop there, he kept slashing intel Enki's arms were off. Blood burst out the stumps.
"T-that's brutal!" screamed the woman, trying to keep her lunch at such a site.
Even the man looked green at this.
"He keeps getting more and more brutal," Saya muttered, not liking this. It would seem that Hirano was becoming more predator-like with each fight with the infected.
Kohta grabbed Enki, and slammed him into the wall. The wall caved in from the blow.
"Tell me what in the hell you're doing here?" Kohta growled out while keeping Enki pined to the wall with one hand. His free hand was positioned to slash his head.
"Screw you, I'm not taking," Enki spat in Kohta's face.
Kohta glared as the spit slide down his face. He applied more pressure to Enki, but he didn't seem to care.
The rest of his group slowly stepped forward, even they were lost at seeing the otaku's ferociously.
"What are we going to?" Shizuki asked. "It would seem he isn't going to talk, plus I don't know how long he will last."
The nurse knows how bad wounds like that were, but it would seem the evolved was faring better than most people.
Kohta came to very sickening conclusion. He wasn't sure if he could do what Mercer or Heller did with their victims that had memories they wanted, but…
"If you're not going to tell me," Kohta muttered. "I'll just find out the prototype way!"
Everyone screamed out in fright as Kohta slashed Enki across his midsection. Before the evolved could screamed, Kohta consumed him.
Kiriko shook in fear at seeing Kohta devour the man. Nothing she had seen could come close to it.
"He just ate him…he's becoming more and more of a monster," Rei whispered in angst at what Kohta was doing.
Kohta suddenly screamed while holding his head in pain. The memories were rushing in.
(Enki's memories)
"So Marko," Enki said.
From what Kohta could tell, it was from the dead Evolved eyes. He saw Marko looking at him. Strange that he would know the man's name.
"Why do we have to stay away from this Kohta, Marko? I thought he wasn't a threat?"
Marko sighed. "That changed, with the information we acquired. He isn't an evolved like us. He is a prototype."
"Like Mercer," replied Enki.
"Exactly, so don't fight him. Pariah-sama doesn't want him learning that we interfering with the evacuations. If he gets ahold of that information. There is no telling what damage he can do," Marko stated firmly.
"Alright, I'll do it," Enki replied with a sigh.
(Memories end)
"That's what they're doing…" Kohta screamed again, this time. His right arm was changing.
"What is he doing now?!" Kiriko asked, wondering what going on.
"He's…gaining an armament," Takashi answered, not knowing what Kohta would gain from eating that evolved.
Kohta gave off one last screamed, his arm done changing. He looked at his arm. He slowly raised his blade. The same red-orange webbing was around it. As for the sword, it was katana in design, but broader. There wasn't a flat end, it was bladed on both sides.
"No fair! I want one," Saeko pouted at seeing Kohta having a sword. One that won't rust or chip.
That wasn't fair! Why did he get the good stuff, when she was one who could use it better!
The rest of her group sweat-dropped at Saeko's complaints.
"That baka! I told him not to fight and look at what happens!" a male voice exclaimed, enraged.
Everyone looked across the courtyard seeing Marko, looking mad.
"M-Marko," Kohta said the man's name.
Everyone, but Marko looked lost at hearing Kohta.
"It's like Pariah-sama said. You can gain a person's memories by consuming them like us, maybe better," Marko stated with a glare at the conclusion.
"I know that, but why are you infiltrating those evaluctions sites?" Kohta asked, with everyone becoming shocked at the information.
"If that's were there doing then that means…"
"Correct you human," Marko answered Saya's reply. "We're using them to spread the Blacklight virus. After all, it so much easier right now. Specially with no Blackwatch to stop with our plans." He didn't see any reason to stay quiet, as it would obvious with Kohta's information.
"This is bad," Kazuyoshi muttered at the realization that this means for anybody at those sites.
"So Hirano Kohta," Marko stared at Kohta. "What will you do? Will you be a thorn in our side or join us? Think wisely, our leader isn't someone you want to…anger."
Kohta felt a shiver run down his spine. From the information on this Pariah they had, it said that he was a natural evolution of Blacklight. He might even be stronger then him at his current level, but…
"No, I have no reason to help you. I'm staying with my friends," Kohta give his answer to Marko.
Marko huffed. "Your friends, you better be ready for the betrayal."
"Betrayal?" Kohta muttered, not liking what Marko said.
"I can see it in them," Marko pointed to Rei. "Sooner or later they will stab you in back. Humans can't stand having competition."
Rei stiffened at Marko's reply. It would seem he knows her thoughts on Kohta's Prototype status.
"That's enough!" Kohta screamed while thrusting his blade into Marko's midsection.
Everyone stiffened at Kohta's callousness, but Marko smirked.
"Nice reaction. By the way you acted, you know it's coming. But you want to deny it. You want to be accepted, but it's a lie! You'll never be accepted by them. They will only use you to save themselves, when done with you. They will throw you away like…garbage," Marko cruelly stated.
Kohta shivered, knowing the evolved hit it dead on. He could tell there was discussions about him. That was oblivious, with his abilities. He was more likely to survive this event and beyond.
"I suggest you be ready, Hinano Kohta. For when Pariah-sama comes after you. You will realize how low on the food chain you are," Marko stated.
Suddenly the evolved turned into a mess of orange gunk. Kohta hopped back from the gunk on reflex.
"What the hell?" Kohta muttered at this, staring at the gunk.
"What is that stuff?" Takashi questioned.
Saya looked and answered. "It's biomass."
"Biomass," a confused Rei replied.
"Yes, I'm thinking that he was a clone," Saya answered and then stiffened. "Not good! If he was a clone, then that means…!"
"They know we're here and will come after us," Kazuyoshi finished, knowing what this spells for them.
"I don't know what you're talking about, and I don't care!" screamed the man, pointing his weapon at the group.
Even the lady was on edge.
"You can take that monster friend of yours and leave! Or do we have to kill you," the man threatened Takashi's group.
"Now see here!" Toshimi screamed. "We're here to evaluate, along with telling the JDF about the evolved! They need to know what's going on here!"
"I don't care!" the man screamed back. "How do we know you're not infected with some kind of freaky virus! Or this was an act to fool us!"
Toshimi fumed as this was this paranoid. They would have shown they were bad news already!
Kohta glared at the man, but turned around. "Goodbye! I'm not staying here as your consideration isn't nice."
With that said, the otaku leaped over the fence. Not caring about the cries from his group. He vanished not along.
"Onii-chan," Alice muttered, disheartened at seeing the prototype leave them. She slowly moved to the gate, not sure on what to do.
Toshimi glared, but moved toward the gate. "I'm also leaving. I don't want to sleep with one eye open at night."
She nodded to Alice to leave the place. The two went on to leave the site.
"Wait, don't we need to stay!" Takashi said as he tried to reason with Toshimi, who didn't pay attention to his cries.
Saya place a hand on his shoulder. "No, let's go."
"What? But don't we need to stay?" Taksahi asked Saya, who shook her head.
"I'm with Saya-san, we need to leave," Kazuyoshi answered. "If we stay here, these people might hurt us or the evolved will come. I rather take my chances out there then here."
Takashi sighed at it all, but had to agree. This group was to dangerous to stay here. Slowly, they exited the gate while keeping an eye on the group.
"This stinks!" Takashi cursed. "When we got a break, it's gets taken away! Can't we got one break that will last?!"
"I'm with that, but nothing we do. We better find Hirano-san, before he gets into trouble," Kazuyoshi stated, knowing that prototype might take his anger on anything that threatens him.
More likely he would kill it, but if he runs amuck. There is no telling what can happen from that.
As for Kohta, he was standing on a building, not far from the school. He fumed at the callness of that man. He had no intention of hurting him or spreading the Blacklight virus. Sure, he wasn't sure on what to do right now.
But that wasn't an excuse to threaten him! It almost like those evolved keep telling him, humans only want to use him and throw him away when done!
'I can see why Mercer wanted to change things, but what about Heller? From what I've read, he didn't care about anyone after his wife's death. He only wanted to kill Mercer…so where does that leave me? I'm no Mercer, but I'm no Heller either. I'm…lost,' Kohta thought, a little calmer.
The prototype was at a crossroad. He didn't know which path to take.
(With Takashi's group)
Toshimi was looking around while keeping quiet as possible. She was trying to find Kohta, with no luck.
"He could be anywhere. Man, there are time I want that tracker of his," Toshimi pouted at this.
Even Alice looked upset trying to kind the otaku.
As for the rest of their group, they were looking around for the otaku, but also helping Kiriko.
"Are you going to be okay, mom?" Rei asked mother, seeing her in pain.
She was holding her stomach and winching a little.
"I'll be okay, Rei. I think my spear took the blunt of kick. Or that evolved was more concerned at taking on Hirano. I didn't think about it clearly; I'm used to street punks. That I thought, I could handle him, but I was wrong," Kiriko amended her stupidly.
Rei nodded, understanding her mom. She has seen that side of her mom. Most of the time, her mom won that fight. But it would seem she was out of league with the evolved.
"Do you think there another evacuation sites?" Saeko asked. "There might be others as, one wouldn't be enough for a large amount of people."
"It's possible. If we only get any information on it," Saya answered.
"Back to square one," Takashi sighed at it all.
They can't get any breaks!
The group went back to looking for Kohta. But, Rei and Kiriko were staying back. They were talking quietly.
"Rei, I know your weary of Hirano," Kiriko whispered to her offspring. She could see the glares her daughter gave the otaku, with the tension between the two.
Rei scoffed. "Yes."
"Please, you must be careful," Kiriko stated. "I can see that Hirano is trending on dangerous ground. He could snap and it can have very bad recuptions."
Rei's face hardened. "I don't know if I can feel safe around him. H-he's a monster! One that will turn its back on us!"
Kiriko couldn't blame Rei on that observation. As it would seem that the otaku was a monster in human form with those powers. But…
"I don't know," Kiriko sighed. "He might be one, but at the same time. He has fought to protect your group. I will ament that his strength will be necessary. If those evolved are anything to go by. They could only be the beginning."
Rei looked away, enraged at her mom's reply. Sure Hirano could help stop the infected and the evolved, but she didn't have to like it.
"Fine, I'll try to not fight with him. But if he turns on us, I won't hestise to kill him. No matter how hard it will be," Rei huffed to her mom.
Rei ran ahead to catch up with the rest of her group. Kiriko sighed as that was best she could do with Rei. As it would seem, this was on going thing.
'That Shido had cause so much trouble,' Kiriko was engaged at man's actions. He had to mess with Rei's life, if it wasn't that for man then…
The older woman stopped her thoughts, hearing that they spotted Kohta.
"I hope that Hirano makes the right choice. He maybe our only hope at fighting the evolved," Kiriko muttered, walking faster to catch up the group.
Sure enough, she could see the otaku on a roof not that far way.
"I hope he doesn't keep doing that," Kiriko muttered sourly. "I don't want to keep going up to rooftops."
There was no telling if the inside of those buildings were safe. That wasn't including inside them.
(Near A hive)
In military building that once served as a secret BlackWatch base. Pariah sat at a desk, looking over the reports that Marco brought to his attention.
"So typical," Pariah muttered, distastefully. "Humans have to act like vultures during a crisis."
It was a report of invasion of Chinese's forces about to attack this town. It did hold some significance to stage a base here.
"But, I'm using this town. I might send a few evolved or infected to welcome them," Pariah replied while getting up.
Marko walked in the room, looking sour. "Pariah-sama, we have a problem."
"What kind of problem," Pariah asked, flatly looking at his subordinate.
"It's about Hirano Kohta, he is a prototype without a doubt," Marko answered.
"Tell me how you know," Pariah replied listening.
"Enki, the idiot. He fought Kohta and got consumed by him. After he consumed him, he gained a blade," Marko reported.
Pariah clenched a fist. "So, I was right. He is a prototype, and needs to dealt with."
After saying that, Pariah looked back at his desk. An idea came to him.
"Is that report of those Chinese forces accurate?" Pariah asked.
"Just about," Marko answered.
"Good," Pariah started walking toward the door.
"Wait, where are you going Pariah-sama?" Marko asked.
"I'm going to deal with that invasion force," Pariah answered.
"What?! Why?!" Marko asked, wondering why he would need to do something so below him.
"I need the practice. I haven't fought anything for a while. After that, I'm going to hunt that prototype. He's too dangerous to leave alone," Pariah answered.
Marko nodded, understanding the reasoning. Pariah give him a hard look.
"No one is to fight with him or even apparch him without my consent. If anyone disobeys that order, they have to worry about me finding them. If he doesn't finish the job," he ordered firmly to Marko.
"Yes sir," a sweating Marko answered, understanding the hidden meaning in his leader's voice.
"Good," Pariah walked out the room, leaving Marko alone.
'I better give that order right away,' Marko thought, walking off to give the order.
As it was in his best interest not to enrage his leader. He only seen him in action once, and from he saw. Pariah wasn't a person he wanted to take on. No matter what!
He did feel a little sorry for that prototype. For he now had one higher on the food chain after him.
