Chapter 1: The Calling (Fletcher)

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself"-Franklin D. Roosevelt

Sunlight shone through the window into Fletcher's eyes waking him up immediately. He stood up stretching his back and yawning the sleepiness away. 'Why does it only have to be Wednesday' he thought taking in the view of his room as he had for his fifteen years of life. His bed was in the center of his room covering up most of his junk that hid away under the shroud of his comforter, the rest of the room was basically only a blanket of clothes that covered the soft carpet underneath. Fletcher went out of his room into the bathroom for a morning shower and to get ready for the terrible atrocity that is high school. (30 minutes later) Fletcher stepped outside of his house taking a deep breath of the mountaintop as he waited for the arrival of the yellow bus. "Have a good day Fletcher" his mother said as she hugged him and ran toward her bumblebee colored SUV. "Bye" he responded sighing as he remembered the times when his mother used to play with him on a swing set before she lost her mom. He heard the revving of the school bus as it trudged up the hill his house. It stopped at the foot of his driveway and opened the door as if beckoning him to come inside. Fletcher started making his way toward the bus before being stopped as a tomato exploded onto his face. "Loser!" one voice laughed. "Move back to Nevada you nerd!" another one commanded until there was a torrent of taunts that surrounded and enveloped him as he boarded the torture bus. He sat down in the very front and started reading a book about weather. He was halfway into the chapter before he stopped reading as he noticed the unusual blissful silence that usually never accompanied him. He looked around and noticed his book was in somebody else's hands, but frozen in time. His eyes opened wide as he looked around, trying to comprehend what was happening. Dingggggggggggg faintly came from the direction the bus was heading. Fletcher shot up as jumpy as a doe in a forest full of wolves and walked to the very front of the bus to get a clearer view out the front window bus. The bus suddenly jerked forward and everyone started blabbing again as the sweet silence dissipated into nothing. It was as if time itself had been caught on a little bump and then released the stored up suspension. 'Why didn't I freeze in time like everyone else though' Fletcher thought before getting pelted in the back of his head by the very same book he was reading moments before. "Traitor" he mumbled as he grabbed the book and sat down in his seat once more, his mind still racing on trying to figure out what happened. (15 minutes later) His heart clenched in his chest as the bus pulled up to the looming nightmare of bullies, inequality and gossip.
