I do not own Bleach.
Sakura sighed as she lounged in the sun on the porch outside her barrack. The sun was shining brightly and and a gentle breeze was in the air. It looked like it was going to be a perfect day.
"What are you thinking about?" Sakura looked over and smiled. Jushiro returned her smile as he sat down beside her on the porch.
Sakura looked bak up at the lightly clouded sky. "What happens to souls that are eaten by Hollows?"
Jushiro frowned at the question. He had asked a similar question when he was back in the academy, but what had brought it up. "They remain trapped inside the Hollow. But they are released back into the life cycle when the Hollow is purified." All he got was a nod in response. "What made you think about that?"
"An Espada killed my family in the living world." Sakura met Jushiro's gaze. "He said he ate their souls." She could feels her throat start to close. "At least he didn't get to my mother."
Jushiro laid his hand over top of hers in a comforting gesture. "What do you plan to do?"
"It's quite simple." Sakura had a small smirk. "I'm going to purify him." She saw a worried look cross over Jushiro's face. "I know, I'm not strong enough to take on an Espada. I saw the trouble my dad had with one. But I'm going to get stronger."
Jushiro scooted closer to Sakura and wrapped an arm around her in a half hug. "How can I help?"
Sakura turned and looked at Jushiro with a determined face. "Help me get Bankai."
Jushiro was surprised by her request. He would have guessed training, but Bankai training. "It takes decades sometimes centuries to achieve Bankai."
"For some people." Sakura smiled widely as Jushiro raised an eyebrow. Sakura quickly got up and dragged Jushiro with her. "I've been doing a little bit of research in my spare time."
"What have you been resarching?" Jushiro was a bit worried to ask.
Sakura was too busy pulling up papers and folders she had stashed away inside her room to actually hear his question. "I've been researching possible reasons why a war would break out after I was born. Urahara gave me the idea. Found all of this out from...uh..." She wasn't technically allowed to access the archives under Central 46, but that didn't mean she couldn't hack her way in. "Let's just say I have the information now."
Jushiro frowned at her research topic. "But war didn't break out. you were reported as having died at birth." He could still remember Shunsui's dead look when he had heard the news. A war would have been kinder.
"Oh I know that." Sakura waved away the comment. She had read about her own death multiple times. "It was listed as a 'Soul Burnout'. Ever heard of it?"
"A soul disintegrating or ending it's own existence because it's body can't contain it's own power." Jushiro had heard of it. And luckily had never witnessed it. "But I had heard that you had died from suffocation. Your lungs hadn't formed properly."
Sakura shrugged as she continued shuffling through papers. "Not sure what story my mom and Unohana-Taichou came up with to cover up that I was alive. But according to this there is only one cause for a Soul Burnout in infants." Sakura pulled the sheet she was after and handed it to Jushiro.
Jushiro looked at the sheet. His eyes where drawn to an area that was highlighted. "Soul Burnout occurs most frequently in infants whose parents have a non-compatible reiatsu relation. Or the powers of both parents are not balanced within the child. Both events cause a Soul Burnout of unprecedented proportions, or a Soul Detonation." Jushiro read aloud from the sheet of paper. "What does that mean?"
Sakura took the sheet back from Jushiro. "It means that Central 46 was scared about what might happen when I was born." She continued when she saw Jushiro's confused look. "My parents have the most compatible reiatsu relation Seireitei has ever seen. Which means the first scenario is impossible. But the second scenario is still possible. And with how powerful my parents are, I was a guaranteed powerhouse."
"Central 46 was worried they might have a bomb on their hands." Jushiro whispered.
Sakura nodded gravely. "And not small by any means. I ran the calculations, and it would have taken out everything and some."
"But that didn't happen." Jushiro pointed out. He noticed Sakura smile, he was following her train of thought.
"Nope." Sakura popped the 'p' with a smile. "But they still had another reason to fear her." She quickly shuffled through her papers again till she found another sheet. "This I found in relation to the Soul Detonation." She handed it to Jushiro. "My parents' reiatsus are perfectly harmonized, harmonized enough to possibly create a Singular." Sakura pointed to the highlighted section on the page Jushiro was holding.
Jushiro quickly scanned the page. He looked back over to Sakura. "There has never been a Singular. This is a theory by Urahara." Jushiro pointed to the Author of the report he had in his hand.
"Yeah I know. But now there is a Singular in existence." Sakura smiled happily. "Me."
"How do you know that?" Jushiro asked with a raised eyebrow.
Sakura took the page from Jushiro. "It says it right here. 'Has complete control of their reiatsu...has complete harmony with zanpakutou...ability to possess multiple zanpakutou...ability to use another shinigami's zanpakutou...and possesses another release of their zanapakutou, a full release called a Zenkai.' No doubt about me being a Singular."
Jushiro gave Sakura a pointed look. "How do you know you are a Singular? Any shinigami can have complete control over their reiatsu and any shiniagmi can have complete harmony with their zanpakutou." Jushiro listed off. He noticed Sakura immediately drop his gaze. "What did you do?"
Sakura shuffled her feet a bit. She kind of hoped he wouldn't pick up on that, but he wasn't a Taichou for nothing. "I may have...kind of...borrowed my dad's zanpakutou."
Jushiro stared at Sakura in shock, then his face changed to anger. "You're lucky you aren't dead. Katen Kyokotsu is one of the deadliest zanpakutou in existence. She has even been known to inflict injuries on her own wielder."
"I know all that." Sakura huffed. The zanpakutou had given her a lecture herself all while throwing sharp bone pins at her. "Katen Kyokotsu was not a fan of being part of an experiment. But she was also very helpful, and we seemed to connect really well. We both agree my dad is not right in the head."
Jushiro frowned at Sakura's response. "Wait...you talked to her? How?" Zanpakutou were not known to talk to anyone but their wielders.
Sakura was the one with a curious expression now. "Um...the same way I talk to my zanpakutou. Although we weren't in my inner world. And Katen Kyokotsu mentioned it wasn't my dad's inner world either. It was like we created another one for us."
"This doesn't make any sense." Jushiro shook his head. "You shouldn't have been able to do that."
Sakura just shrugged. "I don't really get it either. I'm more of a hands on person. But it worked." Sakura smiled happily.
Jushiro couldn't help the chuckle that left his throat. He reached out and pulled Sakura into his arms. "You are so much like your father. Complete disregard for your health. And complete obliviousness to the worry you cause others." He placed a kiss on the top of her head. His smile grew as Sakura giggled in response.
"Funny, Katen Kyokotsu said the same thing." Both shinigami turned and found the Soutaichou leaning on the doorway to the room. Shunsui gave his daughter and best friend and unamused look.
Sakura shrank down, trying to hide her face behind the sleeve of Jushiro's hoari. She shrank down so just her eyes were still visible. "Hi dad. What brings you here?" She tried to keep her voice even, she felt like she was 5 again and had gotten caught sneaking into the cookie jar.
Shunsui fixed a smile at his daughter. "Just checking on my sweet little angel. But now I am curious...what could my sweet angel possibly want with her father's zanpakutou?"
Sakura fixed a glare at the twin swords at her father's side. "Katen said he would keep it a secret." She whined while puffing out her cheeks.
Shunsui let out a chuckle. "Oh she hasn't told me anything. I just overheard your conversation."
Sakura moved her gaze from the sword to her father. She noticed him straighten ever so slightly. "And how long, dear father, have you been spying on your daughter?"
Shunsui cleared his throat, Sakura was giving him a Nanao glare. "Not that long dear daughter."
Jushiro fixed his friend with a suspicious look. "That sounds an awful lot like the entire time."
"Dad!" Sakura was now fully facing her father with her hands on her hips. "I need my privacy. I am a grown ass woman already. I do not need to be looked after 24/7."
"But young ladies should not be alone with any man other than family." Shunsui pouted as his daughter argued with him.
"Fiancee counts as family." Sakura added with a teasing smile.
Jushiro froze as Shunsui pinned him with one of his protective-father looks. He brought his hands up in surrender. "I haven't done anything."
Both men stopped as they heard laughter coming from the other person in the room. Shunsui looked at his daughter curiously. "Sakura-chan?"
Sakura walked over to her father and wrapped her arms around his chest in a hug. "You're being overprotective." She took a deep breath and sighed heavily. "I know you want to keep things from happening, but it doesn't change that things already have. I've broken my arm, twice, gotten myself banned from every family event, nearly got disowned by Obaa-sama more times than I care to count, watched one of my cousins get cut down by a Hollow, kidnapped by an Espada, became a shinigami, and accomplished it all before my 21st birthday." Sakura looked up at her dad. "I've been through a lot, and I'm still standing. I'm not weak dad, but it's nice knowing there is someone there to help."
Shunsui hugged his daughter tightly as he let out a heavy sigh. "I know your strong, you're my daughter damn it, and I don't doubt your abilities, but I'm your father, it's my job to worry. And my responsibility to keep you safe."
"Like with mom?" Sakura had seen how protective her father was about her mother. It was comical when her mother would put him in his place.
Shunsui chuckled at his daughter's observation. "I am extremely protective of my Nanao-chan. Of both my girls, they mean the world to me." Shunsui looked over at his best friend that was partially turned away from him and his daughter, trying to give them some privacy. But he could also see a slight smile on his face and his eyes keeping watch over Sakura. Shunsui directed his eyes back to the girl in his arms. "I hope you will find someone that will cherish you just as much."
Sakura looked over at Jushiro with a smile before peeling herself away from her father. She smiled as Jushiro turned to her and opened his arms for her. Sakura made her way over to him with a smile. She was enveloped in his arms as soon as she reached him.
Jushiro smiled down at the beautiful woman in his arms. His eyes came up and locked with his best friend, but instead of Shunsui's protective-father glare, there was a soft acceptance in his eyes.
Shunsui couldn't help it, His daughter was smitten with his best friend. And he couldn't deny his friend was smitten with her. "We should get going." He caught both of them by surprise. Even he had almost forgoetten his real reason for hunting them down. "Nanao has dinner ready."
Sakura gave her dad a wide eyed stare. "WHAT?!" Sakura had come to know quickly that her mother liked order. And being late for dinner was not in the order of things. "Why the hell didn't you say anything sooner?"
"Language my dear daughter." Shunsui scolded with a smile on his face as he dodged a ball of condensed reiatsu. "And a lady shouldn't be violent."
"Then don't forget such important things damn it!" Sakura shouted as she chased after her father. She missed him as he ducked under her attack and slipped past her. "Hey!" She spotted her dad give her a salute as he grabbed Jushiro's collar and vanished with him. "Get back here Otou-baka!"
The barracks were now silent once more. A few shinigami wondering what all of the commotion was about. But most just went back to what they were doing before. The day was beautiful afterall.
Another Chapter! YAY! And a kinda cute moment. Let me know what you think of it.
