A/N: Thank you everyone for all the lovely reviews! They really make my day! And thank you to everyone who read or followed or favourited my story! Because of all you people who go out of their way to click that button my story spreads to more viewers so thank you for that!

I got such positive feedback for the last chapters I am so happy I'll just about turn into a volcano and explode. Which is a weird metaphor is lava is hot and heat is for anger. Or passion. It's basically a perfect metaphor for Dramione fanfics.

Oh btw I saw someone add a weird fact on their fanfiction chapters and it was so damned cool I'm going to do it:

Weird fact for the day: In 1567, the man said to have the longest beard in the world died after he tripped over his beard running away from a fire.

Ironic.

Chapter 17: Reminder

They stopped at the Head common room on their way as Hermione grabbed some slippers and her wand. Then they left for the kitchens in an amicable silence, each in their own thoughts. Out of the corner of his eye Draco could see Hermione chewing her bottom lip in thought. He almost let out a growl at the action, but instead let out a small sigh. At the noise Hermione turned around to watch Draco run his fingers through his hair. She almost stopped breathing as the loose hair settled softly back into place afterwards. The Veela in her fought hard to make her raise her hand and touch it, but she stomped on it.

Stealing glances at each other like this they entered the kitchens. The elves at once excitedly greeted them. Hermione knowing elves were treated at Hogwarts with utmost kindness, smiled brilliantly at the elves. They ushered the students onto the table and got busy again preparing food for the two.

Hermione sighed delightfully as she sank her teeth into her burger. It was at that moment she noticed Draco looking up from his pasta and glaring at her.

"What is it?" She said self consciously wiping her mouth. Draco's eyes shifted to hers and he saw the self doubt in her eyes.

"It's not you!" Draco said quickly, not wanting Hermione to feel uncomfortable for some reason.

She raised her eyebrow asking, "What then?"

Draco looked down at her burger and spoke loftily, "Burgers offend me."

Hermione blinked, "What?" She spoke slowly, in disbelief.

"I don't like repeating myself, Granger." Draco said simply, eating his pasta. Hermione let out an exasperated snort.

"What did burgers ever do to you?" She asked almost not wanting to know the answer.

"They're just so… uncouth." He spoke with a disgusted look glaring at the burger she held in her hands.

Hermione let out a giggle, "Merlin Malfoy it's not like I am dining with the queen right now." She laughed some more.

Draco looked at her laughing and felt a smile tug to his lips as he watched her. He didn't even mind when she added, "However the way you're acting you're being pretty queen-like right now. I can just imagine how you would look as one." She laughed some more.

"I would look freaking good in a crown." Draco spoke smirking at the witch, who laughed some more.

Draco felt sudden warmth spread through him. Her face exuded happiness, her eyes twinkling brightly. The glowing expression on her face was because of him and somehow that felt really good.

"So what other foods offends you?" She asked in a tone very far from the mocking tone she used often around him.

"Crunchy meat." He replied, disgust on his face.

"Bacon?!" Hermione asked shocked. "You don't like bacon?"

"It's a crunchy meat, Granger. Meat isn't supposed to be crunchy." He explained himself. Hermione shook her head in disbelief.

"Next you'll be saying you don't like cheese." She said biting into her burger.

"I am part French, Granger. That would be a blasphemy." Draco answered grinning. Hermione laughed softly at that.

"You are?" Hermione asked, "Do you speak the language?"

"Better than English."

"I didn't know that." Hermione spoke smiling at him feeling like she knew the blond a little better. Draco looked at her and allowed a small smile to come onto his face in reply. "Do you speak some other language?" She asked actually interested.

"I know a little Spanish too, but not as well as French." He answered.

"I always have a little more respect for people who are multi lingual, only speaking English myself. I've always wanted to learn Arabic or Chinese though." She shared.

"Why those languages?" Draco asked tilting his head at the odd choices.

"They're one of the most spoken languages in the world." Hermione answered and then continued to explain, using her hands to gesture.

They continued to speak on random topics. Hermione liked how much Draco actually used logic and rationale whilst giving his opinion. And it pleasantly surprised Draco how carefully she listened and actually came up with concrete replies unlike several dimwitted people he had met. Their conversation flowed easily when not hindered by heated, angry fights. They both forgot that they were supposed arch enemies, and in that moment they were just Draco and Hermione.

"But Thatcher Thomas analyzed in his book about how-" Hermione argued.

"Yes yes that apparition along a long distance would drain a human. But later in one of his research papers he did conclude that if you make several apparitions to cover the same distance even within a few minutes then it doesn't affect wizards much or even at all." Draco replied as the elves cleared their plates.

Hermione pondered over that as they walked out of the kitchens, "I am afraid I haven't read those papers."

"Oh they aren't well known. There are only a few copies in the world. The manor library has a copy though." Draco answered. "I could send for them if you like."

Hermione turned to him delighted, "Oh yes that would be nice." Draco smiled in reply.

They continued walking as Hermione questioned him about the library at the manor. As they passed the corridor where Draco was attacked, Hermione frowned.

"Malfoy?" Hermione asked softly. He turned and gestured for her to continue.

She stopped before asking her eyes on his, "How did they know about us?"

Draco almost smirked. He had been waiting for this question and was looking forward to the consequences of this answer, "Ronald Weasley paid me a visit in the Great Hall at breakfast this morning." He didn't even need to elaborate and Hermione could picture the whole scene in her head like a movie.

"I am going to murder him." Hermione snarled before turning a 180 and making her way to the Gryffindor tower.

Draco followed gleefully.

She could feel his delight. "You can't come inside the Gryffindor common room, Draco, so don't be so happy." Hermione spoke to which Draco secretly pouted.

Wait a minute.

Hermione stopped dead in her tracks and Draco almost bumped into her. He looked at her confused as Hermione turned around slowly.

"I can feel it." She muttered. Now that she had realized this it was impossible to ignore.

Draco's eyes knitted together, "What can you feel?"

"In the afternoon I felt your pain. And just now, I could feel your happiness." She mumbled. "I read about this." She looked uncomfortable.

"You can feel my emotions?" Draco spoke flabbergasted. Hermione chose the words of her reply carefully.

"Certain Veelas can. And it's only really strong emotions. It's like a sixth sense." Hermione spoke.

"Certain Veelas?"Draco didn't miss the choice of words.

Hermione looked disturbed as she answered, "It's… It's only if the bond between the Veela and her mate is in danger. It's an added precaution to keep the bond secure."

They both knew the implication that her words gave. It meant that Hermione dying was still a likely probability.

Because they weren't just Draco and Hermione; she was a Gryffindor and he was a Slytherin, she was a muggleborn and he was a pureblood, she was white while he was all black.

A/N: Hey I know that turned a bit dark at the end but it's a reminder that even if they had a few cute moments it's not enough. I still feel like their pride will stop them from actually doing what is necessary and realizing that they are good together which could cause problems.

Hope you guys understand what I was trying to do. If you have any questions or confusions please feel free to ask in the reviews.

Oh and sorry for the length of the chapter since I updated quickly this time I hope you guys can forgo the shortness.

Ciao for now, Alex.
