Previously on Achilles Heel:

Draco and Hermione have a nice lunch together after Draco's attack.

Hermione came to know about Ron's idiocy.

They are heading to the Gryffindor common room right now to face Ron

And Hermione realized she can feel his emotions which means that their bond might be under fire since it's a rare occurrence that happens as a last ditch move by the bond to get the mates to secure the relationship.

Fun Fact of the Day: Your chances of being killed by a vending machine are actually twice as large as your chance of being bitten by a shark #jawsaintrealitypeople

Chapter 18: A Splash of Blue

"Granger," Draco started quietly, while not knowing what he was going to say at all. Hermione waved him off much to his relief.

"We can discuss this at a later date; right now I have some hunting to do." Hermione spoke smiling grimly addressing to a certain red head.

Draco let a genuine smile spill onto his face. While Malfoys never let their happiness show so openly, he figured smiling at the prospect of a Weasley funeral was a good enough reason to placate his ancestors.

As they walked Hermione tried very hard not to think about the implications of the new development in their bond. However, instead of feeling impending doom, she strangely felt relief. Her mind seemed to focus on the fact that if not for the Veela in her sensing his emotions, Draco would have been gravely injured. She had saved him some pain by being able to sense he was in danger and somehow even the fact that this was a sign she might die in a few weeks wasn't enough to override that fact.

As they reached the Gryffindor common room they found a strange sight.

"Let me in, you old hag!" Pansy Parkinson yelled at the Fat Lady guarding the door.

"I am afraid I cannot let Slytherins inside the common rooms no matter how much you yell girl!" The Fat Lady replied in an annoyed tone. Blaise moved forward to push a howling Pansy out of the way before calmly speaking to the portrait.

"If you want her to stop screaming at you, you should at least send Ronald Weasley a message to come outside." He spoke.

"I am not an owl!" The Fat Lady replied indignant.

"You may not be an owl but you sure are a bi-" Pansy started before Hermione hurriedly cut her off.

"Hey! What's going on here? Why are the two of you trying to get into another house?" She spoke walking up to the Slytherin pair. The two turned towards the series of questions and started running towards her.

Hermione pulled out her wand and raised her hands, startled to see the Slytherins barrelling towards her. But to her astonishment they pushed past her and towards the Slytherin Prince.

"Draco!" Blaise spoke poking him in several places.

"Dear god what are you doing?" Draco snapped twisting away from him.

"Checking for bruises, obviously." Blaise grinned impishly.

"Are you alright?" Pansy asked. "We heard some idiots attacked you because of that twat red head so we went to the infirmary but Madam Pomfrey said you checked out and were fine. So obviously we bullied a Gryffindor first year into showing us the Gryffindor common room to get back at the red head."

"Obviously." Draco spoke dryly, even though he was secretly pleased his two friends had rushed to avenge him.

"And we would have already had his head on a platter if not for that fat nuisance." Pansy finished.

"I can still hear you!" The Fat Lady yelled from the entrance.

Draco ignored her and spoke to the two, "I would expect the two of you to be sneakier though."

"Well we had already threatened to come after him blatantly if something happened to you in the morning. And you very well know we don't make empty promises." Blaise spoke with a crooked grin.

"Plus, what better revenge then to hex him in front of all his dunderheaded housemates." Pansy smirked. Draco felt a rush of pride at his two friends.

"The only thing we lack is the password however." Draco spoke thoughtfully, and yet smiling. He turned his head towards Hermione who was watching their exchange with acute surprise.

She had never seen the Slytherins as relaxed as when they plotted to murder her best friend. They had always seemed aloof and downright cold to her, and this exchange of smiles and smirks was new to her. The realization that their coldness was just around perceived threats and not a part of their demeanour all the time was news to her. Slytherins were fascinating humans she decided.

"Care to extend a hand in our small venture?" Draco called out to Hermione displaying his famous Malfoy smirk.

"I have some rules though." Hermione spoke firmly. Blaise pouted while Pansy huffed. Draco just looked at Hermione curiously.

"He's mine." Hermione spoke, a flare of rage in her brown eyes. The Slytherins exchanged looks amongst themselves. She turned to the Fat Lady and whispered, "Conundrum Levius."

The Fat Lady huffed and swung open revealing the common room decked in red and gold.

"You are in trouble whether you would like to believe it or not Ronald." Ginny spoke from the couch glaring at her brother.

"I have done nothing wrong okay! I did what I had to, to get that ferret to the Head's room." Ron replied huffily.

"Yes but you didn't have to tell the whole of Hogwarts about the Veela issue in the process." Ginny spoke.

"I have done nothing wrong!" Ron spoke like a mantra.

"Ronald Bilius Weasley, I did not just hear you say that you didn't do anything!" A voice screeched from behind Ron's armchair. Ron's eye widened and he visibly gulped.

Pairs of hands gripped his arm chair and spun it around. Ron winced and his eyes focused on Hermione's fiery eyes. He had never seen them look so dark. Behind Hermione stood Blaise and Pansy looking as intimidating as two Slytherins could –meaning a lot. Draco leaned against the wall with his arms folded smirking.

"Hermi-" Ron began.

"Not a word from you. I'll be the one talking, got it?" Hermione spoke. Ron nodded gulping looking away from her dark eyes.

"You know what your problem is Ronald?" Hermione spoke reaching out and grabbing his chin. She turned his face towards herself and sneered curling her lip back. "You don't even think once about what your actions do to the people you love!" She stood straight letting his chin go and turned to point at Draco.

"He could have been seriously injured or even died!" Hermione shouted. Draco looked affronted.

"I wouldn't have died at the hands of fifth years." He huffed quietly.

Hermione seemed to not notice his remark as she continued yelling at Ron, "Why can't you for once think about what is pouring out of your mouth?!"

Ron gulped and sank into his seat, his eyes darting around the room, "Honestly Hermione, calm down."

Hermione promptly went red in the face at his words and whipped out her wand. The tip of it touched Ron's nose and he almost wet himself at her expression.

"If he had died, Ronald, I would have too. And yet you never seem to think about how your words end up hurting me." Hermione spoke softly. Then she turned and looked Draco who was smiling at her.

Her breathe got caught in her lungs and her eyes went dark for another reason entirely. The grip on her wand tightened and her heart stammered.

His eyes had seemed to light up and the smile made his features soft. She could see the flecks of silver and blue waltzing in his eyes. She couldn't bare it.

She looked back at Ron, her wand high and spoke, "Hyacintho cutis."

By the time she stalked out of the common room, Ron's skin had turned entirely blue.

A/N: Hyacintho cutis means blue skin in Latin. I hope you all enjoyed this! Please review!
