Chapter 19: Unusual Feelings
Ronald Weasley stood in the Headmistress's office looking sheepish. She had deducted a good sum of points from Gryffindor for his outburst which resulted in endangering a student. He had also gotten three weeks of detention.
And he was still blue.
As he left the office, Dumbledore gave a small chuckle from behind Headmistress McGonagall's seat.
"Honestly Minerva, I've never seen such a beautiful shade of blue on a boy." He chuckled with great mirth.
"You shouldn't encourage this." Minerva McGonagall spoke hiding her smile.
"Says the woman who didn't turn his skin back to normal." Dumbledore replied.
The Headmistress changed the topic to avoid the accusation, "I am sending Eddie to therapy. He is filled with too much hate, it's not normal. It will just consume him."
Dumbledore nodded in agreement, "And the others?"
"Hermione already gave them detention and took off points. I took the liberty of sending letters to all three students' parents and have instructed all the teachers to keep an eye on them." She replied. "The news that Hermione defended Draco has also spread like wildfire as well as her punishment for Ron. He, as well as the three students, is now deterrence for other students. They now know not to touch Draco Malfoy."
"Good." Dumbledore replied.
Draco had left Hermione outside her dorm with a small nod, and followed Blaise and Pansy to the Slytherin common room.
Somehow Hermione could tell that if Blaise and Pansy weren't there he would have said something. She chewed on her lip as she entered the dorm room. The common room felt empty without the blond around.
The next day Draco woke up in a cold bed feeling like something was missing. He couldn't pinpoint what it was. This feeling confused and irritated him.
Out of nowhere a pillow flew smack into his face. Draco gasped and pulled the pillow away to reveal the grinning face of Blaise Zabini.
"Good morning love. We've got a date at the Quidditch pitch right now." Blaise spoke sending Draco some flying kisses.
"Finally!" Draco said standing up and running his fingers through his hair.
"Enthusiastic, much?" Blaise spoke his eyes gleaming, "Looking forward to seeing a certain busy haired genius?"
Draco sneered at him for the allegation, "No." He spoke in a clipped tone and moved toward the washroom. His lip curled even more when he heard Blaise's chuckle behind him.
He came out of the bathroom to Blaise's whistles.
"You clean up nicely, my love." Blaise spoke clutching his heart in feigned astonishment.
"Shove it and meet me at the pitch with the rest of the team." Draco spoke strolling out of the room.
"Have fun cheating on me!" Blaise called impishly.
Draco hid a smile as he walked towards the Heads common room. Blaise was a downright nut sometimes, but his loyalty was something Draco cherished.
He knocked on Heads door twice before it swung open. He expected Hermione at the door, her hair flying and eyes big. But it was a brown haired boy that opened the door.
Draco registered that he had never given the Head Boy, Terry Boot, a thought. He now realized he hadn't ever thought about how his mate shared a dormitory with another man.
Somehow that left him with an unsettled feeling.
Terry smiled and spoke, "I guess you're here for Hermione?" Without waiting for an answer he continued, "She's still in her room, asleep probably. I'll go get her for you."
He turned to go up the stairs when Draco called out as casually as he could, "No I'll go." Draco didn't wait for a reply before pushing past Terry and climbing the stairs. He didn't know why, but he didn't want Terry entering Hermione's room. His eyebrow narrowed in annoyance, but he continued up the stairs. Stopping at her door, he gave a small knock.
It swung open and a cocoa butter scent washed over him. Hermione stood with wet curls surrounding her, hanging loose and free. Her bright brown eyes gleamed as an easy smile lit her face. "Draco." She greeted with warmth.
An overwhelming urge to hug her washed over him.
"Granger." He spoke struggling to keep his voice normal. He reached up and ran his fingers through his blond hair. He watched as Hermione watched the movement with rapt attention. He raised a quiet eyebrow at her.
Hermione blushed softly and shook her head, "Let me just grab my bag then we can leave." Draco simply nodded.
As they left the dorm, Terry called, "Have fun!" to which Draco sneered. The Head Boy watched them leaved with a small smile but worry clear in his eyes. Hermione had steadily become a big part of his life. She was a happy person who made everyone around her warm and Terry had started to feel protective of her. He felt like she finally deserved to get some peace after everything she had fought for, and yet peace still eluded her.
Draco and Hermione walked in silence each in their own thoughts. When they reached the Quidditch pitch, Blaise bounded towards them with a big grin n his face.
"Hi Hermione!" He waved smiling wide at her.
Hermione's face split into a smile as she replied, "Hey Blaise, it's good to see you." Hermione still hadn't forgotten the way Blaise had so sincerely said that he wished she wouldn't die.
"How are you this fine morning?" He asked looking interested in the small woman. As they exchanged words, Draco looked between them confused. Since when did they get chummy?
"Okay." Draco broke in, "Enough chatting, we have to go change into our Quidditch robes." He turned to Hermione before saying, "You can wait for us in the stands."
He abruptly turned, gripped Blaise by his arm and dragged him towards the changing rooms. Hermione smiled after them before walking towards the stands. She muddled over which stand to enter before going straight to the Gryffindor stand, grinning.
