Rebekah laid a damp cloth over her brother's head. Her brows were knitted together and her forehead creased with worry. The continual reminder of how things had been decades ago made things brutal for her. She couldn't help but do everything that she knew how to. She couldn't let things get worse. The nurse training that she had learned helped tremendously, but without a miracle, she knew that it wouldn't prevail in helping.

"Rebekah, thank you." Klaus mumbled gratefully. He could feel his strength draining quickly from his body. He didn't ever remember a time that was this bad. He'd had his weak moments, but nothing could have prepared him for this. His eyes glowed as the werewolf power pulled itself out of him.

"Don't speak, Nik. Conserve your energy." A tear slipped down Rebekah's face. She sniffled away her emotion and fought to remain strong for her brother. Her breath caught in her throat as Klaus let out a roar of pain.

He struggled to bite back the onrush of cries that threatened to break his normally grounded appearance. The constant reminder that death could be around the corner for him at any precise second, sent a fear rushing through him. That fear had been there for centuries, suppressed by many facades and demeanors. He let himself focus on what Caroline was feeling right now. She had passed out, but the trembling in her body reminded him that she was going through just as much pain as he was, if not worse.

He allowed his focus to return to his sister. "Conserving my energy, little sister, will get me nowhere if I don't apologize for the hell that I've put you through over the years."

"You did what you had to do, Nik." She understood why he had done what he had done to her over the years. An apology was appreciated, but not necessary. Staying alive was necessary. Family always remained together.

"No, Rebekah, I should have given you the freedom to make your own choices. Please forgive me for not allowing you that privilege." He struggled to remain focused on her, to say his peace. He had done innumerable horrors to her and the rest of his family. Making sure that he made peace with them before he died was all that matter now. At the least, he owed them that.

"Nik, I will always forgive you. Now fight to get better." She dabbed at his forehead some more, not knowing whether or not he'd actually make it to be there for her in the future. They'd had their differences, but that didn't change the fact that he was still her brother and she loved him.

Klaus nodded. He glanced over at Caroline. He silently promised that he'd make life better for her. He'd do what he had to to give her the world. He just wanted another opportunity to be with her; to treat her differently; to be different himself. His world began swirling around him as a darkness overwhelmed him; shutting off the world, but leaving the writhing pain for him to continually deal with.

With the darkness came irrevocable dreams, reminding the invincible beast that he could now be killed; and by a virus nonetheless. He knew this was a fate that Tyler had been waiting for. The ungrateful being would pounce on an opportunity as sudden as this one. It was only a matter of time for his world to potentially cave in around him.

Regardless of not being conscious, he could feel his body arch up in pain. He couldn't imagine what his sister was feeling right now. He'd always hid his fear from his family. He had to keep up the facade that he was in control of everything around him. It kept things stable, right? Perhaps not, but he was still willing to give it a shot in an attempt to protect his family from the evils that lie within and around him. It had to make them stronger.

Flashes of Tyler coming at him kept him from achieving the rest that his body needed. He could feel his power escaping and could feel Tyler's teeth ripping into him. Nightmares mixed with reality as he wasn't sure what was happening and what was still in his imagination. It was pure agony. He prayed he wouldn't hurt anyone around him in his unconscious sleep.

"Elijah! I need you now! I need help!" He could hear Rebekah's voice echoing out. He wasn't sure if it was because he was subconsciously lunging at someone, or, perhaps, something was happening with Caroline.

"No..no.." Klaus moaned. He had to protect her. Maybe Tyler was in the room. Maybe he was trying to hurt his love. He couldn't pry his eyes awake, but he'd stop the invisible danger now. He had to protect everyone. He could feel his body jumping up. What he was doing, he had no idea, nor was he sure he would remember anything. He couldn't do anything to stop himself. His mind was in a state of paralysis, but his body was far from that. Fear overwhelmed him and whatever he was doing he was sure he'd come to regret.
