Cami had all of the information that she needed to find the professors, but she had to do something first. She knew how unstable Tyler Lockwood could be. She'd heard the stories. She'd met the man briefly on several occasions. Her personal assessments of him reminded her that he couldn't be fully trusted. Although the boy hybrid meant well, his temper was far too short to be trusted with something so serious as this virus. All that needed to happen was for him to be spooked and that could be just enough reasoning for the death of everyone in the Mikaelson house. She couldn't let that happen.
When she had moved, she had made it a point to have a hidden room with all of her family's supernatural toys. One of the supernatural artifacts she'd used multiple times. It was a powder with the power to keep anyone out of where she wanted them to stay out of. All she had to do was be in proximity of the place that she needed to protect and think of it while the powder was in hand. Supernatural beings could escape it, but couldn't enter past it. She had used it to seal off her hidden room and frequently used it for her own home when the time called for it. Now was as good of a time as any.
Cami packed up a few different items in preparation for her journey. She was going up against supernatural beings. She was going up against beyond smart professors. The need to keep herself safe was ever relevant. She made a promise to use precaution; now wasn't an exception. She pulled her backpack over her shoulders and headed over to her next destination.
She drove out of town. She'd make it the rest of the way on foot. She parked her car on the side of the road. Her body was pumping vervaine through her blood stream consistently. She'd be as safe as possible. There was no stopping her.
The powder was careful encased in her pocket. She pulled a pistol from the small of her back. She normally wouldn't be packing, but this was extraordinary circumstances. The pistol was loaded full of wooden bullets, prepared to lodge themselves into her intended targets if she was attacked. There was no knowing what she was going up against.
Sticks tried to prevent her from inching her way to the home of her friends. She'd have to move faster and quieter if she intended not to run into trouble. She bit her lip as the sting of a branch whipping against her face was inevitable. She suppressed the cry of pain. Her hand brushed up against the red welt that etched its way into her flesh.
Cami swallowed hard. She pressed forward, anxious to ensure the safety of her friends. An opening was approaching quickly. She could see the large mansion. She was almost close enough to send the powder in the direction necessary to bring about a protection border.
She heard a branch snap behind her. Before she had a chance to react something grabbed her and pinned her against a tree. She struggled to pull the gun up as she stood face to face with Tyler Lockwood. His eyes glowed and she couldn't help but notice the sweat beading up near his brow. Holding her in place seemed to be a lot more of a challenge then it should be.
"Let me go. You have no right.." She struggled under his strong grip.
"I have no right? How do I know that you're not trying to sneak into the house to be with Klaus? I have no reason to trust you." He growled at her.
Cami let herself stop struggling. She relaxed under his grip and stared at him. "You're right. You don't know if you can trust me. I feel the same way about you."
Tyler was clearly weighing out her words.
"You look like you're having trouble focusing. You have it too, don't you?" There was no sympathy in her voice, just speculation.
Tyler swallowed. "Why are you here?"
"I'm assuming you know who I am if you already suspect me." Cami kept the words flowing, unsure what his intentions for her were.
"I'd be stupid if I didn't know who you were. I told them that nobody was supposed to risk spreading the virus. I warned them." The underlying impatience mixed well with his rising anger. His golden eyes couldn't hide the danger in his voice.
"Nobody invited me here." The obvious panic lashed through her voice. "I came on my own."
"If you know about the virus, then you're an idiot to be here." He commented, his grip on her tightening. "I've waited for them to yield results long enough, you'd make a viable warning to them."
"Warning?" She repeated, not liking the way he was saying it. She couldn't hold back her nerves and her fast talking made that clear. She wasn't able to get to any of her weapons to protect herself. "What do you mean a warning? Tyler, if you're infected then you're better off releasing me and letting me find the help that everyone here clearly needs."
"Do you take me as a fool? Do you honestly think that you can pull that crap with me? You being here is going to spread this stupid thing. Everyone here needs to die and preserve what few supernatural beings living here we have! You're stupidity just signed your death warrant. Are you prepared to die for them?" His voice ranged from yelling at her to being dangerously low.
Cami's breathing quickened along with her pulse. "You wouldn't kill me. You wouldn't shed innocent, human blood."
"Watch me." Tyler let his fangs drop as he glared at her. The murder was in his eyes. Whether he honestly wanted to do this or it was the virus talking, it didn't matter. A horrible thing was about to happen.
"Help! Someone help! Someone help me!" Cami's voice rang out loud and clear. She couldn't save anyone if she was dead. The least she could do was yell out for a supernatural being to save her. She wasn't ready to die today, nor did she deserve it. She had a mission to complete.
Tyler didn't stand a chance as a pale, far from healthy Klaus shoved him away from his shrink before he could hurt her. The most that she'd abstained from the situation was bruises on her arms. The beast was loose and neither hybrids were healthy enough to stop themselves from full contact fighting.
Elijah was by Cami's side within seconds. He helped her to her feet from the rush of action that had dropped her to the ground from lack of balance. She couldn't pull her eyes off of the pair, not more than a few feet away from her, hashing it out. "Elijah.." Was all she managed to say, stunned by the obvious illness running through Klaus. She'd never seen him so pale and vicious.
Elijah stepped forward to stop the pair from hurting themselves more. He felt Cami's hand on his arm. It was enough to make him look back and see her raising the weapon still in her hand. He took a step back. "Niklaus may not survive that if you hit him." He warned her.
She glanced at him, allowing her voice to steady. "I won't hit him." She leveled her aim and watched for an opening. Her heart was pounding, but she let her breathing steady it enough to keep her hand from shaking. The second she saw them break apart gave her the chance to drop Tyler. He was the last of her worries, but she still didn't want to see him hurt too much. She aimed for his stomach, knowing it'd be enough to drop the junior hybrid, but not enough to keep him down for long.
Klaus stepped back the second he felt the young hybrid fall, clutching his stomach. He couldn't control the color in his eyes any longer and his steps were staggered. Elijah grabbed him quickly. He hadn't been able to hold him back from coming to rescue Cami, but he surely would be able to hold him up to keep him from tumbling over.
"Klaus…" Cami was at a loss for words. She'd never seen the mighty hybrid so vulnerable and weak. She could tell that it had taken a lot out of him to save her. She couldn't stop herself from reaching up to his face.
Elijah pulled Klaus backward a step. "Cami, you cannot risk spreading the infection. What are you doing here?"
Her eyes drifted down in disappointment, but she quickly regained her composure. "I brought something from my Uncle's collection of things. It's a powder that will keep any supernatural being from entering the house. It will keep you guys safe and buy us some time while I try to find answers."
Elijah straightened his head. "What's the catch?"
"Any non-supernatural being can come and go as they please. If you guys step foot out of that house after I lay this down then there will be no way of getting back in." Her eyes were wide with the seriousness of the method. "Do you understand what I'm saying?"
Elijah nodded his head. He could feel the weight of Klaus on his arm as the hybrid struggled to stay standing once again. He could feel his strength diminishing like that of his brother's. "Understood." Elijah's mouth voiced the word before pulling his brother away and back into the house for safe keeping.
Cami stood stunned that she wasn't able to say goodbye. She made a mental note that Elijah was her next problem case to fix. Still, a sadness filled her up, not knowing if she'd see the brothers again. Not knowing if they would survive this. Or, for that matter, if she would.
She poured a little of the powder into her hand, allowing her mind to fix itself onto the house and all that were in it. Her eyes closed as she raised her hand up to her mouth and gently blew the powder into the air. All it took was that mental picture of where she wanted it and the boundary was put all around the building.
Cami swallowed hard and blinked a tear that threatened to fall. Her work here was done for now. She prayed she'd return to save them. Her eyes glanced down at an unconscious Tyler. He must have passed out from the wound. She licked her lips and scurried away. It wouldn't be long before he'd wake up and be well enough to extract revenge. She couldn't wait for that.
