Chapter Ten: Fishman Island

Missy and Rachel were unsure of exactly what day marked the two year reunion for the Straw Hat crew. Even less sure of how long it would take them to do certain things. They were running out of copper though, so Rachel needed to make a run to Fishman Island. Missy wanted to do some shopping in the harbor town on the Redline anyway. It was voted that Ace would stay on the surface to keep Missy out of trouble.

Once the ship was coated, Rachel was on her way to make a copper run. On her arrival to Fishman Island, things were a complete mess. There were fires going around the town, nothing too significant though. Everywhere she looked the people were in a cheerful mood, despite the obvious destruction to most of the buildings. Rachel went to the harbor master and asked him if they had any copper to sell. She was turned down, being told that the copper was needed to rebuild the town.

Not wanting to just have to turn around, Rachel went into the town. Only a few of the restaurants and shops were still undamaged. One of them being the Mermaid Cafe. Deciding to rest there for a bit, Rachel went in. The place was obviously packed. It wasn't a surprise since most of it's competition were closed. Just as a couple was getting up and out of their seats, Rachel slipped into a seat at the table. It wasn't dirty, thank goodness, so she didn't have to worry about that. A waitress came up to take her order a few minutes later.

Rachel was sitting, enjoying her warm beverage when the sight in front of her caused her to pause. A crab man was walking across the room. Up on the Redline both Missy and Ace felt a shudder go up their spine. "I feel a disturbance in the Force," Missy said.

"You know, I finally get that reference."

Once the crab was out of sight, Rachel looked up to the ceiling. "I didn't say anything, neither of you can hit me." Rachel then turned to the nearest waitress. "Check please."

Nami and Robin had been enjoying their time on Fishman Island now that the banquet to celebrate the defeat of the New Fishman Pirates was over. They decided to go on a shopping spree, dragging Zoro with them. "Why did you bring me along again?" he growled.

"We need someone to carry our bags," Nami said. She was walking in front of Zoro, next to Robin. "Besides you still have a debt with me. So just shut up and come with us." The three of them had been out in the village for a few hours now.

"Why don't we stop for a rest?" Robin suggested. She was pointing towards the Mermaid Cafe at this point. "I'm sure Zoro wouldn't mind putting down those bags for a few minutes."

"He's fine," Nami waved her hand dismissively. "But a drink does sound good right now." The two women then started walking towards the cafe. Zoro grumbling behind them, saying how he'll get even with the witch.

"This place is packed," Nami mused. There wasn't a single open table anywhere.

"It's not surprising," Robin commented. "With most of the businesses closed it's only natural for people to flock to the only places open. Besides, I've heard many good things about this particular cafe."

The two were startled out of their conversation when they heard the woman in front of them yell at the ceiling. "I didn't say anything, neither of you can hit me. Check please." The two women blinked, wondering what that was all about.

Zoro slipped past Robin and Nami. Without a word to them or a warning of any kind, he slipped into the chair next to the seemingly insane blonde woman. She took one look to the side, notice him giving her an amused smirk, then slammed her head on the table. "Never mind."

Nami and Robin, now curious about who this woman was, sat in the two remaining open seats. It didn't take Nami too long to recognize the woman across from her. "I remember you from Lougetown," she said. "You were on that strange boat thing."

"That was me," Rachel waved. "I don't think we've been introduced and I doubt Zoro will do it properly, if at all. My name is Rachel, pleased to meet you."

"My name is Nami."

"And I'm Robin."

"So," Nami leaned forward onto her elbows. "How exactly do you know Zoro?"

"I've bumped into him a few times."

"Literally," Zoro put in.

"Hey, we don't need any input from the peanut gallery." Nami and Robin laughed lightly at the exchange.

"You two seem to get along quite well," Robin commented. "How long has it been since the two of you first met?"

"We first bumped into each other four years ago," Rachel said.

"You bumped into me."

"Who's telling the story?"

"I think that I get it," Nami smiled. Zoro sent her a scowl. The amusement gone from his face when he looked away from Rachel. Robin, ever observant, noticed the change. "So tell me Zoro, what exactly was Rachel wearing when you first met her?" Nami pressed.

"What does that matter?" Zoro asked.

"I'm testing a theory," Nami answered. "Indulge me this once."

"She was wearing some sort of black, skin tight one piece suit with a blue stripe going down either side. Why?"

Nami and Robin looked to Rachel for confirmation. A blushing Rachel nodded, letting them know that he had remembered. Nami turned her attention back to Zoro. "Do you remember what I was wearing when we met?"

"Why would I care?" Zoro asked.

Nami's fist slammed down on the table top. "I knew it!" she cheered. Nami picked up her chair and moved it so that she was now sitting next to Rachel, between her and Zoro. Robin also moved her chair closer to where Rachel was sitting.

"What are the two of you doing?" Zoro asked.

"Tell me Rachel," Nami ignored him. "How many other times have you 'bumped' into Zoro?"

"Just one other time in Lougetown," Rachel said. Nami's shoulders slumped in defeat at the answer. "But we did see each other and talk at Water 7."

Nami perked right back up at that. Robin was sending Zoro a secret smile. "What did the two of you talk about?" Robin asked.

"I was showing him how my wave runner worked," Rachel said.

"What's a wave runner?" Nami asked.

"It's that strange, boat thing, you saw me on at Lougetown. It's designed to shoot across the water at high speeds. Purely for fun, mostly."

"What do you mean mostly?" Robin asked.

"Until we got a bigger ship, I had to ride it practically the entire distance across the Grand Line."

"Who's we?" Nami asked. She glanced at Zoro, checking to see if he was getting jealous. He looked the same as always.

"That would be my older sister."

"When we walked in you said something about 'neither of you'," Robin reminded. "I assume that one of them you were talking about was your sister. Who was the other?"

"That would be the third crewmember we picked up," Rachel said. "He's been helping us with our business and training."

"He?" Zoro asked.

'There it is,' Nami thought with an evil smirk. "So this new crewmember, is he cute?"

"I suppose so," Rachel thought. "Though, I don't really notice that sort of thing."

"What is it that you notice?" Robin asked.

"How much of a pain in the butt he is," Rachel snapped. "I mean honestly, I know he's my brother and all, but he needs to relax."

Nami deflated when Zoro relaxed at the word 'brother'. Though, she did have enough information to go on now. "So let me ask you something," Nami continued. "Out of curiosity between us girls. What type of man is your type?"

"I haven't given it much thought," Rachel looked down with a blush. She did, however, steal glances in Zoro's direction. The motion was caught by both women.

"Okay, that's understandable." Nami backed off from pestering Rachel. It would do no good to chase her off. Especially not with a challenge like this. Zoro was fiercely loyal to Luffy, so the key would be how to get them together without Zoro having to leave the crew.

A waitress had come by to take the order of the newcomers, finally. Rogin ordered some coffee and Nami ordered tea. Zoro didn't order anything, not really caring for what was on the menu. He did ask for a glass of water though.

"What is it that you do Rachel?" Robin asked.

"Well, my sister and I run a business out of our ship. I'm not sure if you've heard of it. Our ship is the Nunya Bizniz. We build and install energy units and security for villages that have been raided by pirates and bandits in the past. Our big brother does all the heavy stuff. He's not too comfortable working with our tools yet, especially mine. I make guns and accessories to match them. Dealing with gun powder like that makes him a touch nervous. He's worried that he'll accidentally set off a chain reaction and blow us all up."

"He must be pretty clumsy then," Nami said. Rachel only smiled at her in response.

Robin and Nami's drinks arrived shortly after that. They continued to converse with Rachel about typical things. Clothes and hair care to name a few. It didn't come as too much of a surprise when Rachel admitted that she didn't much care for her appearance. When ever she was working she had to wear clothes that protected her from the heat of a welder or in case the powder was lit on accident. She didn't get much of a chance to dress up.

"We're going to have to change that," Nami declared. "We'll have to meet up at another town some day and go shopping. Just us girls, hitting the town. It will be a lot of fun."

"It does sound fun," Rachel said. She was only humoring Nami at this point. Sure it would be nice to dress femininely once and a while, but it wasn't practical. She would continue to wear her standard clothes on the ship. If she knew she was going to fight, or had the possibility of a fight, she had a set of clothes specially made for that.

"I should go and powder my nose," Robin announced. "Nami, didn't you say something earlier about wanting to do the same?" Nami stared at Robin blankly. Once Robin gestured towards the back Nami finally got the hint. The two left Zoro and Rachel alone.

"I honestly don't know what's wrong with those two," Zoro said. "I've never seen them act like this before."

"It doesn't bother me," Rachel said. She was busy shuffling through her purse. Once she found what she needed she called a waitress over. "This is for my bill," she said. She handed a small handful of cash. "Put whatever's left towards their bill and a tip for yourself."

Rachel then started to stand up. Zoro followed suit, not wanting to seem overly rude. "It was nice to see you again Zoro," Rachel said. "Maybe next time we can spend a little more time talking than just a few minutes." Zoro only nodded as Rachel turned around and started to head out.

She was just through the door when Nami and Robin emerged from the back. They saw Rachel leaving and rushed to follow, dragging Zoro along with them. From a distance they followed Rachel all the way to the New World side of Fishman Island. They soon discovered that they were headed for the port. They watched as Rachel boarded a large, metal ship.

"I don't see anyone else on board," Nami said. "I wonder if they're out on the town. She couldn't have sailed that here all by herself." The sails lowered, as if by magic. The ship made a gentle lurch as the current caught a hold of it and started to drift away, back to New World.

"The last time that I saw that ship was in a picture at Water 7," Zoro commented. He was talking more to himself than his two companions, but they listened just the same. "It didn't have a mast or sail in the pictures."

"What type of pictures?" Nami asked.

"She was posing in front of that ship with a bunch of kids and their mom. There were three of them, actually. The second one had just her and the kids. Rachel was holding on to three babies in that one. The third was of Rachel jumping onto that ship."

"Why would you mention her holding babies like that?" Robin asked. "Did you see something that you liked?"

"Leave me alone you devil women," Zoro groaned. He then picked up the bags and started walking away. "I'm going to head back to the palace."

"First off, you didn't deny it. Second, you're going the wrong way," Nami teased.
