Chapter Fifteen: Leaving
Missy was putting the finishing touches on her work with Franky's cyborg half. She managed to make it so that he could survive just a little longer. At least until they found someone that could work on his human half. Her vision zeroed in on the floor where Luffy had gone down to his knees earlier, still holding Rachel to him. He was claiming the two of them his sisters and how it was his job to watch out for them from now on. If Missy wasn't so tired she would hit him on top of the head. Luckily she didn't have to worry about it. Zoro came up from behind his captain. He raised his fist above his head and brought it down.
Luffy's eyes bulged at the sudden pain that coursed through his skull. Hands dramatically on the top of his head, he turned to look accusingly at his abuser. He found Zoro glowering down at him. "What's your problem?" Luffy asked.
Instead of answering, Zoro grabbed Luffy's shirt and pulled him to a standing position. He then stepped around him. Zoro took of Rachel's elbows and lifted her back to her feet. Luffy couldn't help but pout at being denied getting to know his new sisters. "How come you're not being fair?" he whined.
A giggle from the lobby had caught most everyone's attention. Luffy was looking back in confusion, Zoro glared and Rachel was looking towards the ceiling. Koala been watching the whole exchange. "It would appear that you made your vice-captain jealous Straw Hat," she winked.
Luffy tilted his head in confusion. He then looked back to where Zoro was. He had let Rachel go, but still stood close. "Zoro, did you want Rachel and Missy to be your sisters too?"
This time Luffy was hit on the head by both Ace and Sabo. "You gotta be kidding me," Ace was seething. "He isn't interested in being Rachel's big brother."
"Then why would he be jealous?" Luffy whined. Tears were welling at the corner of his eyes from the pain. He couldn't understand why everyone was hitting him.
"Straw Hat-ya," Law's voice cut through the silence. It was painfully obvious to him that he had to explain it since no one was going to be clear enough. "The swordsman is interested in your 'sister' in a romantic fashion, not sibling. Instead of being brother and sister, think of it as he's more interested in having an intimate relationship."
"Huh?"
Usopp let out a huge sigh at that. "Not simple enough Tra-guy," he said. Usopp then looked Luffy in the eye. "Luffy, Zoro likes Rachel like a husband would like his wife."
Luffy blinked a few times as the gears turned in his head. His mouth formed an 'o' shape as understanding finally dawned on him. In the blink of an eye he whipped around and was pointing at Zoro. "You keep your hands off my baby sister!"
Rachel put a hand to her forehead. "Oh my god," she muttered. "I don't believe this." Missy was behind her, laughing uncontrollably.
Missy came up and put her hand on her shoulder. "This is much better than what I had planned," she said. Rachel raised an eyebrow at her, a sign for Missy to elaborate. "I had planned on maiming you. But think of this humiliation as punishment for not shutting up about the crabs."
"Now just a second," Rachel turned her humiliation to anger. "I only started with the crab thing because you made such a big deal out of it. You know how I am, if you just let things slide then I leave well enough alone. Like your birthday, you make such a fuss over it that I can't help myself, I have to tease you. So if you look at it from that perspective, the crabs are all your fault."
"So now we're pointing fingers?" Missy asked. "You really don't want to go there?"
"I'm not going there," Rachel said. "I'm just pointing out that the crab thing isn't entirely my doing to begin with and this punishment you claim is unfounded." As the two argued they slipped past the now wrestling Luffy and Zoro, the laughing Ace and Koala, stunned Usopp, angry Law and embarrassed Sabo.
The two argued until they were out the door. Once the door closed behind them both women turned to look. No one noticed their departure or tried to follow them. "Run?" Missy asked.
"Run," Rachel nodded. Both took off for the harbor. "You know, we should probably have given Ace the option of coming with us," she pointed out. "He's going to crispify us when he catches up."
"If he catches up," Missy pointed out.
"If, if is good."
The match between Luffy and Zoro was heating up. It got to the point that Sabo had to break in between them. He held back Luffy while Ace stood in front of Zoro. "If you two can calm down for a moment," Sabo snapped. "We should think about leaving. Now that your friends and crew aren't in danger, we should grab what supplies we can and leave." Sabo was looking Luffy in the eye. "We should get to the harbor before the marines call for back up. We'll commandeer a ship and make our escape."
"There's no need for that," Ace said. "Right you two?" He looked into the room that had Franky only to see Missy and Rachel gone.
Koala cleared her throat and smiled at everyone. "They left a few minutes ago," she said. "You were all so busy, I didn't have the heart to interrupt."
"Yeah right," Hack rolled his eyes. "You just want to see us all go in a panic."
"I highly doubt such strong men will..."
"I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY LEFT WITHOUT ME!" Ace yelled out. He ran around the room, putting medical supplies in his pack. He then picked up Robin as carefully as he could, much to Bortolomeo's dismay. "If we don't want to be left behind we need to go!" That jump started everyone into motion. Luffy raced after his brother, Zoro and Sabo worked together to carry Franky out. Hack helped Law since Luffy was already out the door and Leo's group continued to carry Usopp. Bortolomeo snapped out of his shock of loosing sight of Robin and started calling after his 'senpai' while running after them.
Missy climbed onto the Nunya first. They had to stop and grab the cart of supplies Missy hid on the way. "I'll untie the ropes and get the engine started," she said. "You bring those supplies on deck. Don't worry about getting them below and tied down. We'll do that once we're out a ways."
"You read my mind," Rachel answered. She was already untying the ropes that secured the crates to the cart. The cart was too wide for the ramp to just push it on board. Besides, it wasn't their cart to begin with. "Can I take a minute though to get the dolly?"
"I don't think we should risk the extra time," Missy hollered back. "Just rush those things up here. It shouldn't take you more than three or four trips."
"This is what we get for not planning ahead," Rachel muttered. She picked up two of the crates and started up the ramp. She set them down and rushed back to the dock. She continued this two more time.
Missy had just started the engine when she called out the window. "Are you done yet?"
Rachel was setting another set down on the deck. "One last trip," she announced. "Then we can raise the ramp and head off." As Rachel made her way down the ramp she froze halfway. The remaining supplies were being carried up to her. Luffy was grinning at her from over top of them. "Well shit." She slowly backed up until she was on the deck once more. Luffy and Ace weren't too far behind her.
Luffy set the boxes down on the deck and looked around. "So this is your ship?" he asked. He turned around in a circle very slowly. "How do you get anywhere without sails?"
"Very carefully," Rachel deadpanned.
Ace was immediately in her face. "You two were planning on leaving me behind!?" he accused.
"No," Rachel snapped back. "We were planning on you wanting to travel with Luffy and his crew for a while, if not forever. We just never had the chance to ask you."
"What's the hold up? Aren't you ready ye..." Missy poked her head out the window. Once she saw who was on board she sighed and turned off the engine. There was no use trying to rush around now. Luffy and his crew would leave when they felt like it. When she came out onto the deck all the others had arrived. Ace and Rachel were arguing, Ace trying to pin her down in a head lock, she slamming her foot on his toes.
Missy then took over the situation. "Anyone carrying an injured person, follow me. We have a room set up with medical supplies they can rest in." She led the way below and to the room that she had just informed them of. "We only have two beds, so put the lady and the wimp there for now. I'll go get a cot for Law. Franky won't fit through the door, so we'll have to take him to my workshop." It took a few minutes for everyone to get settled in.
Leo made sure that Usopp was comfortable then made an announcement. "Don't leave just yet heroes," he bowed deeply. "I'm going to get someone that can help the injured. Please just wait patiently until we get back." He then left, followed by his subordinates.
"I wonder what that's about," Missy muttered. She and everyone else returned to the deck. The sight caused them all to stare in wonder. Ace's foot was wrapped around in a rope, being held upside down over the rail, sea splashing beneath him. Rachel was holding onto the rope, an evil grin on her face. Luffy was holding his sides, laughing for all he was worth. "I don't wanna know," Missy muttered.
Grabbing Luffy by the ear, she headed to the boxes Rachel had set aside. "You have a job to do," Missy ordered. "These need to be brought to the cargo hold and tied down. Make sure they're secure so they don't shift."
"But I'm hungry," Luffy whined. "I'll do it after I eat."
"Ever hear the phrase, 'he who does not work, neither shall he eat'?" Missy turned on her full blown glare at him. Luffy snapped to it and picked up the boxes. He followed Missy's directions to the cargo hold. He made two trips, carrying more boxes than Rachel had been able to at once.
"I need to remember that phrase," Sabo muttered. Zoro just made a noise of agreement.
"Now you two," Missy looked over the side to Ace. "If you're done playing around, we should do our pre-departure checks."
Both Rachel and Ace let out a sigh. Rachel let go of the rope and walked away. Ace just calmly lifted himself back over the side, rope not slipping into the water. "What's that all about?" Bortolomeo demanded.
"Those two are never serious in their fights," Missy shrugged. "They may act like they're going to kill each other every now and then, but that's all it is. Ace needs someone to rough around with and Rachel is the only one of us with experience to handle it. Since it's just in fun, nothing is ever taken too far."
Luffy came back onto the deck at that point. Missy turned to face him. "So, when is the rest of your crew coming to pick you up?" she asked.
"They're not," he gave a shrug. "We've gotta go and catch up to them."
"Oh? Well good luck with that." The silence was so thick you could cut through it. "Why is everyone looking at me like that?"
"We're taking them to their ship," Ace answered.
"Flameboy say what?" Missy whipped her attention to him.
"Luffy asked and I said 'yes'," Ace clarified.
"Luffy asked, or you offered?" Ace just shrugged his shoulders.
"I'm back!" Leo called out. He was carrying someone in his arms. "Everyone, this is our princess, Mancherie." He set Mancherie down in front of everyone.
"It's a pleasure to meet you all," she greeted. "Could you please show me to where the injured heroes are?"
Koala took the lead on that. She offered Mancerie her hand and the two of them disappeared below deck. They came back a few minutes later. "I've healed your friends," Mancherie announced. "They're just resting at the moment."
"How did you heal them?" Luffy asked.
"I ate a fruit that allows my tears to heal others," Mancherie explained. "It doesn't matter how serious the injury, I can fully heal anyone I wish."
"Not to interrupt such a touching moment," Rachel called out. She was looking out the entrance towards the harbor. "If we don't get going soon we'll be trapped in by the navy." She pointed to two navy ships that were approaching.
"It's time to go," Leo announced. He picked up Mancherie and headed for the dock. "Thank you everyone, for everything. You really saved this country. We'll never forget about you." He and Mancherie waved 'good-bye' on behalf of everyone in Dressrosa.
Koala gave the snail she used to takes photos of the ship in the hidden dock of Dressrosa to Sabo. She then jumped over the side and onto the dock. She waved to those on board and headed back into the city. "Why is she staying?" Zoro asked.
"With this country feeling betrayed by the government," Sabo smirked. "It's an opportune moment for the Revolutionary Army to make another ally. We can set up another base here and offer them protection the government denied them. Koala stayed behind to work out the negotiations." Hack stook next to him, staring at the city. Zoro just shrugged and went to see what Rachel was doing.
Missy was once again at the helm, starting the engine. The sudden noise caused Luffy's eyes to sparkle in wonder. Rachel and Ace got the turrets ready in case they needed to return fire from the navy ships. "You know," Rachel pointed out. "If we're spotted with you Straw Hat, that means mine and Missy's reputations will change. We'll be known either as pirates or your sympathizers. Either way, we won't be able to do business like before."
"What's wrong with being pirates?" Luffy asked. Rachel let out a sigh, she wasn't really expecting a different answer. Ace was just laughing next to her. Zoro was not too far off, smirking. The navy getting the wrong idea about this ship would work to his advantage.
The propeller started spinning, water turning at the back of the ship. Luffy was running back and forth, trying to take in everything at once. Rachel let out a sigh and looked to Ace. "Can't you do something about your brother with ADHD?"
"ADHD?" Zoro asked.
"Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder," a male voice from the stairs said. The three that were by the turrets turned to see who it was. Law was making his way out onto the deck. He was slightly hunched over, the days events showing their toll despite the healing he had just received from Mancherie.
"Shouldn't you be resting?" Missy yelled from the bridge. She had spotted Law approaching Ace from the window. Law turned a glare in her direction. "Oh that's it," she growled. "Rae!" Rachel's spine stiffened as she looked up to Missy. "Get up here and take over the ship."
Rachel's gaze turned to the navy ships, then back to Missy. "But what if we're attacked?"
"I think Ace can handle it," Missy seethed.
Rachel looked to Ace, who merely shrugged. "Let her learn the hard way," he whispered. Ace spoke so that only Rachel could hear him. "I think a little humility would serve her well."
"You don't know her too good," Rachel whispered back. "She knows full well who she's dealing with. She wouldn't threaten unless she had a plan." Rachel moved to the bridge to take over.
Missy stomped her way over to Law. He was staring her down defiantely. "You'll never be a help if you don't get the proper rest," she informed.
"Are you a doctor?" Law challenged.
"I'm not," Missy admitted. "But I am an elder sister, which means that I might as well be one of those evil people."
"Doctors aren't evil," Luffy put in. "Chopper is a doctor and he's nice."
"I didn't say he wasn't," Missy elaborated. "I just think that the profession is evil." Missy stopped just in front of Law. "You should follow your own advice when you tell others to rest after being injured." Law's eyes narrowed suspiciously at Missy. She just made an innocent little grin.
Slowly, purposefully, she took off her coat. Law took a step back. If it was the same kind of coat that Rachel wore, then that meant... Before Law could process more than that, Missy threw the coat over his head. Law started to crumple, he hoped that the fall would knock the coat off. He had no such luck since Missy was already holding the coat on him.
"Hey fish guy," Missy called.
"My name is Hack."
"Whatever," Missy dismissed. "Help me carry his dumb ass back to the medical room. We'll tie him down with the coat so that he doesn't move."
"When I get out of this I'll kill you," Law promised.
"Good luck with that," Missy smiled.
The Nunya Bizniz made it past the navy vessels before they got close enough to open fire. They started to make their way to the bridge where Law had said he last saw the Sunny. All were tense and ready for anything. Rachel was dancing from one foot to another, she was hoping for a chance to use the Nunya's new modification.
