Chapter Twenty-three: Plotting of Women
The party lasted all through the night. As Zoro had predicted, Rachel did fall asleep. He was careful not to wake her as he lifted her in his arms. Missy, having spotted his burden, led him through the Nunya to Rachel's room. She stood and waited at the entrance as Zoro put Rachel down on her bed. Zoro fondly ran his fingers through Rachel's hair before he left.
As Zoro came out of the room, Missy shut the door. Without a word the two walked back towards the deck. Before the noise could completely drown her out Missy spoke. "You've got it bad," she said. "Dare I say, you're whipped." Zoro's only response was to look at her. "Girl's been through some tight spots before. For some reason the two of us choose to be with men comletely wrong for us. When I start dating, I always take the guy to her to meet so that I can get her honest opinion. The only time she doesn't tell me is when she knows I'm not willing to listen. The last guy she was with, she did the same thing. When I met him I didn't really get a bad vibe. I thought he was genuinely good for her. He turned out to be emotionally abusive to her. I couldn't stop it because he hid it well. Thankfully, Rachel knew the signs to look out for. It took her a bit, hoping that he would stop. She pointed things out to him, told him she didn't like things the way they were. She even told him point blank he needed to stop at one point. He didn't, if fact he told her that she just had to get used to it, so she left. So here's my warning Roronoa, if I so much as catch a hint of that sort of thing..." Missy stopped and smiled sweetly at him. "I'll chop off your manhood, feed it to the sea kings then let them eat your eyeballs like jujubes." Smile still on her face, Missy went up to the deck.
"Here I thought that the brothers were over protective," Zoro said to himself. He was smirking from the exchange. Missy sure had an unusual way of threatening someone. "What in the hell are jujubes?" He quickly followed her to the party.
Several days passed and Shanks' crew wasn't any closer to leaving then when they had first arrived. They kept the party going non-stop. Law was starting to get anxious staying in one place. Missy was feeling the same, but there was no way to get her to admit it. She wanted to leave right away, but Shanks was persistent.
Rachel took it in stride, same as everyone else. She also refused to go along with several plans of Missy's that included 'Our boat is faster, let's just ditch them and be done with it.' On the sixth day Shakky arrived just as Rayleigh said she would. The first thing that she did was seek out Rachel. She found the younger woman busy in her workroom. Rachel barely glanced up from what she was doing to see who it was. "It's good to see you Shakky," Rachel greeted. "I'm sorry I can't greet you a little more formally. I'm handling some sensitive stuff right now. I'll talk to you as soon as I finish."
Half an hour later found the two women in the galley enjoying steaming hot mugs of coffee. "I have to know Rachel," Shakky said. "Rayleigh said that you found someone from the Strawhat crew to love. My biggest question is: It's not the cook right?" Rachel laughed and shook her head, easing Shakky's fear of a pervert falling for a woman she viewed as a niece. "Next question, which one is he?"
"It's Zoro, the swordsman. He's also Luffy's first-mate."
"I see," Shakky nodded her head. "How did you two get hooked together?"
"Zoro and I met about four years back," Rachel started. She once again explained all her run-ins with the Straw Hats.
"Back then huh?" Shakky put a finger to her chin in thought. "So he's made it official? Everyone knows that you're a couple?"
"More or less," Rachel shrugged. "You should have seen Sanji's reaction when Zoro kissed me in front of him. The man, literally, broke into tears."
"That sounds like something a womaizer would do," Shakky agreed. She then leaned forward and gave Rachel a pointed look. "What of Missy? Who did she hook up with?"
Rachel laughed nervously as she glanced to the side. "She hasn't exactly hooked up with him yet."
"She has someone in mind though?"
"Yes... and no. She recognizes, if only to herself, that she has a crush on someone. She won't pursue it though. I'm sure that Rayleigh has told you this already though. Why ask me to confirm it for you?"
"I'm just ensuring that we're on the same page," Shakky waved dismissively. "Have you discussed this with any of Monkey-chan's crew? Particularly those two women that love to get involved in crew affairs?"
"I've wanted to," Rachel admitted. "It's just been really busy lately. Between Dressrosa, leaving Dressrosa, Shanks rowdy crew and my own budding romance there hasn't been the time."
"How far has your romance bloomed?" Shakky asked. Despite the smile she wore there was a dark look in her eyes.
"Nothing futher than kissing," Rachel quickly answered.
"That's good to hear," Shakky nodded. "I would hate to hear that I'm going to become a great aunt soon." Rachel rolled her eyes with a sigh. She wasn't even prepared to think about stuff like that yet. "I do expect them sometime though." Rachel nearly fell out of her seat in shock.
Ignoring Rachel's reactions, Shakky stood up and headed towards the deck. "I'm sure that Missy has locked herself in her shop at this time of day," she was saying. "That makes now the perfect time for that 'all girl' meeting." Rachel had to run to catch up to her.
Upon reaching the deck, both women stopped short. Rachel did a run down of the ships and pirates. "The Nunya check, the Sunny check, Shanks' ship check, ship pulled by two snakes; not so much."
Shakky laughed lightly as she started forward again. "I wonder what the Kuja Pirates are doing here."
"You're not the only one," Rachel muttered.
On the deck of the Sunny Luffy was facing a tall woman with black hair. The woman was behaving shyly and addressing Luffy in a timid fashion. "I was worried about you," she was saying. "I read in the papers that you were responsible for the destruction that befell Dressrosa."
"Government propaganda," Sabo scoffed.
"Who asked you?" the woman snapped. "Who are you anyway?"
"That's my brother Sabo," Luffy cheerfully said.
"Your brother?" the woman looked at Luffy in shock. "I thought that your brother was Fire Fist Ace."
"They both are my brothers," Luffy grinned. He then looked like he was hit with an epiphany. "Not only that..." Luffy started whipping his head left and right, looking for something. He stopped when he saw Rachel. He stretched out his hand and grabbed onto Rachel's.
"I'm going to hate this," Rachel cursed. Shakky gave her a smile and a wave. The next instant Rachel was pulled off of the Nunya, across the gap between the two ships and onto the Sunny. Luffy pulled her right up to him.
"Hancock, this is Rachel." He said with a grin. He didn't notice the sudden chill in the air as Hancock was glaring at Rachel like she would kill her. "She's my baby sister."
"Sister?" Hancock's expression immediately softened at the news.
"My other sister is around somewhere," Luffy started looking around again.
"Missy's below deck on Nunya," Rachel gave her input. "She's working in her room once again." Rachel stepped away from Luffy and gave a bow. "It's nice to meet you. I'm afraid that I can't stay and talk. My friends and I have an important matter to discuss about my sister."
"Then we can discuss it on my ship," Hancock put in.
"I'm sorry?" Rachel asked in shock.
"If there's a problem with one of Luffy's sisters I want to help any way that I can. You will have more privacy on board my ship. I would also like to offer my own personal aid in this matter."
"Okay, thank you." Rachel didn't know if it would be beneficial to accept the offer or not. She did know that if she didn't then she would be insulting Hancock. Shakky had taken the time Rachel was distracted to get Nami and Robin. All the women, minus Missy, headed over to the Kuja ship.
"I'll be right back Luffy," Hancock called. "I'll have some of your favorite foods brought over for dinner."
"That sounds great," Luffy laughed.
On board the Kuja ship, the women gathered in the galley. "What can we do to help the sister of my dearest Luffy?" Hancock asked. Rachel explained the situation to them all, yet again. "The solution is simple. Lock the two of them in a room," Hancock tossed a lock of hair over her shoulder.
"That won't work," Rachel dismissed. "Missy will see through it in an instant. On top of that, she's the type of person that will cut her nose off to spite her face." Nami hissed out 'ouch' at that description. "If she finds out what we're trying to do, she will fight us every step of the way. We need to be so subtle in our dealings we might as well be walking on egg shells. Let's not forget the fact that Law can just cut or transport their way out. His devil fruit ability can be annoying at times. If we try to keep him from using his powers by handcuffing him with sea prism cuffs, or tying him with sea prism cloth then Missy will just untie him so he could get them both out of there."
"Not if she doesn't have a key to the cuffs," Nami put her finget to her chin in thought.
"It wouldn't help," Rachel shook her head. "That girl has been taught a wide range of skills that border on illegal. I won't mention a few because you won't know what I'm talking about, but one of them is picking locks. I can't tell you how many times she locked herself out of her house. She had to be taught how to pick locks just so that she wouldn't freeze in the winter. Girl knows how to break Law free of his cuffs if it ever came down to it."
"Then we need to get the two of them to do the work for us," Robin spoke up. "Let one or the other think that it's their idea to push for a relation. That person will ultimately push the other into relenting."
"It will have to be Law," Shakky said. "Missy will see through it before we start."
"How will she do that?" Nami asked.
"This isn't the first time I've played 'matchmaker'," Rachel said. "It's the first time it was for Missy though. Usually it's her and I that's setting someone up. She'll see through us dropping hints at her to admit her feelings for Law."
"What makes you think that we can trick Law that easily?" Nami questioned. She sounded genuinely curious.
"He's a man," Hancock put in. "They don't understand the subtle ways a woman's mind works at times. I'm sure it won't take much to get him to start chasing after Missy."
"We could do one other thing," Nami added. "If Sanji or Brook started to flirt with Missy then it might push Law over the edge."
"I wouldn't try it," Rachel warned. "Missy doesn't take well to men casually flirting with her." Nami was already walking out the door. "And she's not listening to me." Rachel then turned to look at Robin. "You should be ready to save Sanji or Brook. Not from Law, but from Missy. Like I said, she doesn't like someone flirting with her. It might not end well if Nami follows through."
"I'll take care of it," Robin smiled.
