Chapter Twenty-eight: Heart Pirates

Law pulled away from Missy after a few moments. There was a stunned silence among the crew of the Heart Pirates. Law stood up to his full height and addressed the crew that had been staring. "If you stare for too much longer we'll be unable to avoid a conflict with Kaido. Let's not waste the chance that Shanks is giving us." The crew sprung into action, starting the sub into motion.

"How long will we be away for?" Missy asked.

"That all depends on how long Shanks is going to divert Kaido," Law answered. "We'll be submerging for a while. It's the best way to make an escape without someone seeing what direction we're heading. Will you be able to handle it?"

Missy stood up next to Law. She took a deep breath and met his eyes. "I'll try my best," she answered. "But don't be surprised if I start having a panic attack though."

"That's why I'm a doctor," he said. "I'll take care of it."

"I'm just starting to get used to that. Don't keep making me more nervous than I already am." Law's only response was to smirk as he went back to observing the going ons of the ship. They were able to see Shanks and his crew start a cannon fight with Kaido's ship. The two vessels appeared to be evenly matched. "I bet that if Rachel's seeing this Ace will have to restrain her from also engaging in the battle."

"She would want to help Shanks fight?" Law asked.

"No, she'd want to test her weapon modifications on the Nunya against Kaido's. She knows Shanks can take care of himself."

"For some reason that doesn't surprise me," Law said. "I'm not able to picture either of you staying out of trouble for long."

"Now hold on just a minute," Missy put her hands on her hips. "I'll have you know that I'm perfectly capable of staying out of trouble." Law just looked at her out of the corner of his eye, then back. "You jerk, you don't believe me?" Once again, Law remained silent as he continued to observe the battle.

A few cannons had aimed and fired at Law's sub. "Submerge," Law gave the order. He glanced at Missy when he felt her grip his arm. He moved so that his arm wrapped around her and pulled her close to himself. He might not be in touch with his emotions as he was when he was a child, but he wasn't inhuman. He knew she was still scared and uneasy about being under water.

"Aye Captain," Jean Bart called out. He was in his place at the helm. The ship then started to sink into the water. Most of the crew in the area pretended not to hear Missy's whimper when they were finally under the water.

Missy closed her eyes and pressed her face against Law's chest. The idea of being under water still rubbed her the wrong way. With this uneasy feeling she knew she wouldn't be able to handle looking out and seeing nothing except water. That would be too much for her to deal with.

Law continued to pay attention to the crew and ship until the threat of being hit by Kaido's cannons disappeared. "Bepo, I'll leave things on the bridge with you." He turned to go deeper into the ship. He guided Missy to follow him. "I'll be back soon." The two then left the bridge.

Law found a vacant room quickly. "Wait here a minute," he said. Law left Missy in the hallway and went into the room. A few seconds later he came back. "You can come in now."

Missy walked into the room. She glanced around the area. Where a port hole used to be was now solid steel. On the wall that led to a closet was the port hole and window. Missy let out a little laugh. "You did that for me?" she asked.

"It's a simple matter with the Op-Op Fruit," Law said. "I could tell you didn't want to be constantly reminded of our location. The best way to do that is to move the window when we go under water. I can move it back once we surface again."

Missy was touched by the thoughtfulness Law put into her room. She moved up to him and kissed a corner of his mouth. As she was pulling away, his hand moved to the back of her head and pulled her in again for a full kiss. "I promise we won't stay submerged longer than needed," Law said once they pulled away. "We'll make our escape then check to make sure all is clear. Once we've succeeded in getting away, we'll head to the next island. We'll stock up on a few supplies and then go back to Zou."

"Sounds like a plan," Missy nodded her head. "I'm curious about something though. What ship did Kinemon and his group get on during the escape?"

"They had originally planned on going to Zou," Law answered. "I doubt they were planning on traveling with us anymore."

~Back on the island of Zou, two grown men from Wado were kneeling on the beach with tears streaming down their faces. A little boy was next to them, wailing. "I can't believe they left us," Kinemon cried out.
