Chapter 18

'How can you lose me? You've owned me from the first moment I saw you' Dianna Hardy

The next few of weeks passed in a blur as both Livie and Reid came to terms with their new situation. Now that they had gotten over the original shock of their situation they were excited and they struggled to hide it from their friends. Reid wanted to tell them but Livie didn't. She knew that the moment she told Hotch she would no longer be allowed to go out in the field and hunt down serial killers; she would only be allowed to fly with them for a certain period of time before she was restricted to staying at Quantico. Her internship was rapidly drawing to a close though and she only had three weeks left.

She hadn't decided what she wanted to do once it was over though Reid had seen her researching post graduate courses that could be done online whilst she was pregnant and it seemed to make it even more real to see that she was actually going to stay.

Livie had discovered that she was in fact eleven weeks pregnant; further than they had anticipated. So it was a shock when one morning whilst getting dressed Livie suddenly noticed a very small bulge in her stomach. She had panicked momentarily wondering how she was going to hide it before she had seen the amazed and delighted look on Reid's face as he stared at the tiny proof that she was indeed pregnant with his baby and that had washed away all fear that she had felt.

The pregnancy was really beginning to get to her now and she was struggling to sleep at night as well as hold food down. She continued to throw up regularly but it was beginning to fade thankfully.

It was getting harder to hide the pregnancy from the team now. They had all noticed how Livie no longer drank coffee and how they hardly ever came out for drinks anymore and if they did, Livie never drank and they never stayed late. The tiny bump could easily be hidden by loose clothing but they knew that before the end of Livie's internship they would have to come clear with everyone.

They were currently on a case in a small town in Idaho trying to locate an arsonist and Reid wasn't enjoying it; he didn't want Livie to go out in the field anymore after a series of terrifying nightmares had struck him where he saw Livie being badly hurt in the field. Livie soothed him and promised that she would be careful and he knew she was being cautious. She hung back and volunteered to watch the exits instead of charging the house. But that didn't stop the fears.

Right now he was watching the team gearing up ready to go on a raid. Livie was carefully strapping on her vest which was becoming more uncomfortable for her to wear now with a very calm look in her eye. "Maybe I should come" he said "you know support in numbers"

"No Reid" Hotch said "we need you here; if he isn't at his house we need you to pinpoint the most likely target." Reid nodded unhappily and as everyone began to head out he caught hold of Livie's arm "Livie" he pleaded "be careful, one small slip could hurt the baby, if you get a hormone imbalance due to stress and that can cause you to miss carry or…" he trailed off at the look on Livie's face "Spence" she said "come on I'll be fine, you don't need to recite new facts about the dangers of the outside world to a pregnant girl every time I go out in the field. I promise I will be careful; I need to go to help case the building and you need to stay here and figure out the next potential target ok"

"Ok" he mumbled "sorry for being over protective" Livie smiled "don't worry about it" she whispered "I find it kinda cute" then she stretched up quickly to kiss him before she headed off after the team.

Livie shifted uncomfortably in her seat in the car; her vest was getting uncomfortable and she could feel it rubbing over the small bulge of her stomach. She tried to sit still but she saw Emily eying her suspiciously from her seat beside her and she ducked her head twisting her hands on her lap struggling to not rest her hands over her small stomach which she found herself doing regularly as though to remind herself that it was real; that she was pregnant.

As they pulled up outside the house she eyed the house for any sign of life as she unbuckled her seatbelt and slipped out along with the others. "Emily… Livie" Hotch said as his eyes flicked towards them "… take the back." Livie nodded and she drew her weapon and followed Emily round the back of the house.

"So you going to tell me what is up" Emily asked as they paced round the back "what do you mean" Livie asked and Emily cast her a glance "you have been acting weird for weeks now Livie, you've been quieter… more cautious going into possible dangerous situations and Reid is so much more protective of you… what's going on?"

Livie swallowed "nothing" she said as they arrived at the back door "lets focus on the task in hand please Emily" she added as she pressed herself against the wall beside the door. Emily looked like she was about to protest but as Hotch spoke through the ear pieces telling them that they were ready she nodded and readied herself.

At Hotch's command Emily kicked open the door and they both moved into the house swinging their guns left right and centre clearing the rooms. "Clear" Emily called as Livie opened the door to the basement and carefully made her way down the stairs "clear … sorta" she called eyeing a table in the corner. She heard the team moving down the stairs and join her "well I think we are on the right tracks" Rossi commented as he moved forward towards the tables covered in huge containers. He carefully opened one "Naphtha" he said "and by the looks of it the exact same used in the fires."

Livie nodded and opened her mouth to respond before she stopped as the smell of the chemicals overwhelmed her and she felt bile rise in her throat. She turned and shoved past Emily and JJ and sprinted up the stairs and staggered out of the house. She managed to stumble to the road side before she doubled over and puked in the gutter. She groaned in frustration as she shoved her hair back out of the way before she fumbled with the Velcro of her vest struggling to get it off as she continued to empty the contents of her stomach into the gutter.

She stumbled and would have fallen if Emily and JJ hadn't appeared and caught hold of her, holding her up whilst holding her hair back. "Easy easy kid" JJ soothed gently as she assisted Livie to sit on the edge of the kerb "put your head down… it'll make the nausea go away."

Slowly Livie did as she was told and sure enough eventually the nausea faded and she cautiously lifted her head and sighed "ok so now do you want to tell me what is wrong" Emily asked "no" she mumbled.

"Livie" JJ warned "come on now we know something is wrong." Livie sighed and twisted her hands nervously in her lap and she realised that she couldn't hide them forever. "Can you guys keep a secret" she asked softly not looking at them "you can't tell anyone not even Hotch and the rest of the team."

Out of the corner of her eye she saw Emily and JJ share a glance "um yeah we can keep a secret" Emily said slowly "no you have to promise" Livie said "promise me you won't tell anyone" "ok ok we promise" JJ said and Livie took a shaky breath before she looked up at them.

As she did so she finished slipping off her vest and then she flattened her baggy top out over her small stomach so the bulge could be seen. "I'm pregnant guys" she whispered.

If the situation had been slightly less serious their reactions would have been comical. JJ's jaw dropped and her eyes went wide whilst Emily stared at her and tried to speak but she couldn't seem to form any words "wah eh huh" was all she could manage at first as Livie stared between them.

"Um … wow" JJ eventually said "wasn't expecting that" Livie smiled "neither was I" she whispered "does Reid know" Emily asked slowly and Livie gave her a sceptical look "of course he does" she said "he's the father." That made their jaws drop again in surprise.

"You and Reid…" Emily said and Livie nodded staring at them worried. JJ and Emily continued to stare at her before a smile slipped onto their faces "Livie that is amazing" JJ whispered "I can't believe it… you and Reid are going to have a little baby."

Tentatively Livie smiled as she nodded and JJ and Emily grinned at her "I don't believe it" Emily said "our little Reid is going to be a daddy." Livie laughed "yeah and he is really looking forward to it" she said "he is" JJ said with a smile and Livie nodded "we both are" she said "well once be both got over the shock we were, Reid was so sweet, I was terrified when I found out but he helped me get past that, I can tell he is going to be an amazing father." JJ smiled "I don't doubt" she said.

Livie sighed and then looked between the two of them again "so you won't tell the rest of the team will you" she asked uncertainly. "Why don't you want them to know" Emily asked and Livie sighed "because I know that Hotch will bench me; I only have three more weeks of my internship left, I want to live them to the full, I want to remember them so I'll gave all these amazing memories to treasure in the future when I am stuck home changing diapers"

"But what if you get hurt" JJ fretted "I won't" Livie soothed "I am being so careful at the moment, if only to stop Reid spouting out a new fact to support the argument that I shouldn't go out, I don't do anything reckless now, I promise you guys, I am being careful and I guess now you two could have my back"

Neither of them looked convinced so Livie bit her lip "let me have one more week" she said "One more case even, by then I don't think my vest will fit on me anyway so I'll stop but please… let me have one more week"

Emily and JJ looked at each other uncertainly and Livie waited with bated breath until they both turned to look at her "one more week" they agreed and Livie smiled "thanks guys" she said and she rose carefully to her feet and hugged them both "no problem" JJ whispered "you be careful though ok, I would hate it if something happened and we didn't get to watch you and Reid have fun struggling through the first few weeks of parenthood only to conquer it and be amazing." Livie laughed "we won't let you down" she promised.

The rest of the team came out then having obviously finished their examination of the basement. Hotch moved over looking concerned "you ok" he asked Livie who nodded "um yeah" she said "I just really hate the smell of Naphtha, always makes me wanna puke, must be some psychological reasoning behind it but I haven't figured it out yet."

Hotch eyed her and for a moment Livie thought he was going to call her bluff but then to her relief he nodded. "Emily, JJ head back to the station, see if Reid has found out the next target" he said "um I think Livie should go back to the station with JJ" Emily said slowly looking at Livie who gave her a long exaggerated eye roll "I mean she did just kinda throw up."

Hotch eyed them before he nodded "Livie go with JJ" he decided and Livie scowled at Emily as she grumpily followed JJ back to the car. As she drove back to the station JJ kept glancing at Livie and she saw that Livie was sitting staring out the window one hand resting tentatively over her stomach. JJ could remember how she was feeling; the amazement and wonder you felt as you saw your body gently swell to accommodate the tiny baby growing inside of you. The awe inspiring feeling you had when you felt your baby move inside you.

"So how far along are you" she asked and Livie looked over blankly before registering the question "eleven weeks" she said "we'll go get a scan next week when we get back to Quantico" JJ smiled "believe me that will make it so much more real" she said "when you get to see your kid for the first time… it is magical."

Livie smiled "I can't wait" she said "and neither can Reid… we can't wait to meet her" "her" JJ questioned and Livie smiled sheepishly "well we don't know for sure but every time we try to picture ourselves with a child we see a little girl. Reid described what he saw to me and… I want what he described… I mean we'd both be happy with a boy but a girl sounds so perfect."

JJ stopped outside the station and looked over at her "you know what I see you with a girl too" she said "Reid would make an adorable daddy to a little girl" Livie smiled "I know" she whispered before she slipped out.

They headed into the station and to the little room where Reid was standing carefully calculating as he eyed his maps covered in pins. Grinning Livie moved over and wrapped her arms around him making him start before he turned and smiled at her. "Do you have anything" JJ asked and he looked up and nodded.

"I looked at all of his other attacks and then I looked at his history with the help of Garcia and we found his school record and discovered that our unsub had been the victim of very severe bullying. Looking closer I noticed that all the locations that he attacked are the places he was severely bullied"

"Great so you know his next target" Livie asked pulling out her phone to call Hotch and he nodded "his most likely target is here" he said and Livie winced "the public library" she said "not good."

Quickly she told Hotch what Reid had found out and once he had confirmed they were on their way she hung up and grinned at Reid "what" he asked. Still grinning she bit her lip "I kinda told Emily and JJ" she whispered and he froze before looking at JJ who was grinning at him "Um why I thought you wanted to wait" he questioned. Livie shrugged "I may have thrown up at the crime scene after smelling the chemicals and they pressured me into telling them."

"Are you ok" Reid asked and she rolled her eyes "I'm fine quit worrying" she said touching his cheek before turning back to JJ. She was standing grinning at them as they stood together. "Oh I am so happy for you guys" she gasped as she flung her arms around them both and they both grinned hugging her back "thanks JJ" Reid whispered.

"Don't worry they aren't going to tell Hotch yet, they're gonna give me one more week to remember then I have to tell him" Livie said "but don't worry, now we know, we'll take good care of her" JJ promised and Reid nodded feeling slightly comforted by that knowledge.

They waited with bated breath until Rossi called saying that they had caught their unsub and had stopped the fire and that they were on their way back now and Hotch wanted them to back up as fast as possible. Frowning at that they quickly packed away their belongings and signed all the forms they needed to so that by the time the team had arrived with their unsub they were pretty much ready to go.

They checked that the local authorities didn't need any more help before Hotch turned to his team "pack the equipment into the car" he said "we are going to the hotel to collect our belongings before we go straight to the airstrip"

"What's the rush" Livie asked as she grabbed one of the bags and carefully lifted it "I'll explain on the plane" Hotch said. Looking over at JJ Livie shrugged and followed the team leader out and helped load everything into the SUVs before she climbed in next to Reid taking his hand and squeezing it reassuringly.

Once they had collected their belongings together they headed to the airport where they found the jet with its engines already running. Once they had stored their equipment and had clambered on board the jet took off carrying them high into the skies.

"Ok so what's up" JJ asked as they all settled in their seats with Livie curled up against Reid looking very content. Hotch pulled out the laptop and set it up, a few seconds later Garcia came on line "hello crime fighters, sorry no rest break this time because you are on your way to Livie's home town" Livie frowned "we're going to New York" she asked as a smile slipped onto her face as Garcia "indeed you are all jetting to the big apple" she concluded.

"What's the case baby girl" Morgan asked "Rikers had a prison break" Garcia said "three prisoners somehow escaped, among them is the serial killer Jeffery Danville" a picture flashed up on the laptop "he murdered 24 men and women in their homes, torturing them all before hand, needless to say he is the top priority out of the three to get back though the others are still important. They specifically asked for our help to catch Danville because they do not want him going on another spree, he was due to be executed next month"

"Meaning he has nothing to loose" Hotch added "dig up what you can Garcia and send it to our tablets please" "your wish is my command" Garcia said with a mock salute "be careful my loves and bring me back a cupcake from Magnolia Bakery"

"I'll bring you a box if you get me some juice on Danville" Morgan teased and Garcia grinned "juice it is" she said "see ya" and with that she popped off line.

"How long do you think we will be in New York" Livie asked looking at Hotch who shrugged "hopefully not too long but a few days I would say" he decided "can I borrow Reid one night and go visit my parents" she asked "well more my little sister, every time I talk to her she demands that I bring Reid back to see her again and I think I need to talk to my parents… you know fill them in on some stuff" out of the corner of her eye she saw JJ and Emily grin.

Hotch nodded with a small smile "certainly" he said "though I don't think it will be hard to arrange a time to see her since she called us in" Livie's eyes widened "my mom called us in" she checked and Hotch nodded "that is part of the reason I agreed to come down so quickly" he said "she called Strauss who forwarded me the urgent message, I recognised the name and thought it might be interesting" Livie grinned "that's awesome that you get to meet my family" she said smiling in delight and everyone grinned.

The rest of the flight passed quickly and it wasn't long before they touched down at the airport where they found three SUVs waiting for them. Livie volunteered to drive since she knew the best route and she led their little brigade over to the 12th precinct.

They all headed in and procured visitor badges and headed up to the homicide floor. As soon as the doors opened Livie shot out and ran across the floor and into a break room where they head a delighted squeal from Livie followed by a laugh.

They carefully made their way across the room and peered into the break room where they saw Livie hugging an older women tightly with her head buried in her shoulder as the older woman hugged her just as tightly stroking her hair. Behind them were two other men who were watching the exchange with smiles on their faces.

"Ah I have missed you Livs" the woman murmured and slowly Livie lifted her head up to grin "missed you too mom" she whispered.

Her mother smiled and turned then and like Reid was before, the whole team was struck by the similarities between Livie and her mother. Livie grinned at the team "Guys" said "this is my mom… mom this is my team."

Her mom smiled "Detective Kate Beckett" she introduced before she turned "this is my team" she said indicating to the two men and as she spoke Livie hurled herself at them laughing in delight and chuckling they greeted her back just as enthusiastically. "Detective Javier Esposito" she said indicating the Hispanic muscled one who was currently hugging Livie "and Detective Kevin Ryan" she said introducing the other smaller one who nodded smiling at them "good to meet you all" Hotch said and quickly introduced the team "and of course you already know our intern" he said smiling at Livie who grinned.

Kate smiled affectionately at her daughter "Thanks for coming so quickly" she said "I understand you came straight from another case which I am grateful for, we need to catch these prisoners especially Jeffery Danville as soon as possible" "it is our pleasure" Hotch said "I have to admit the shared name did encourage me, I think we are all interested to see where the little spitfire came from." Livie pulled a face at him as Kate laughed "yes she really is a spitfire isn't she" she mused smiling at her daughter "she always has been, I could tell you stories…" "could but won't" Livie interjected as Morgan laughed "come on we'll set up in the conference room" Kate said and led the way out of the break room "I'll bring the murder boards" Livie said grabbing one of them and pushing it into the conference room after them as Reid pulled out a map of New York he had procured and they set it up on one of the white boards.

"Hey how'd you land the case mom" Livie asked as she settled into a chair and her mother sighed "I was the one who put him away in the first place" she said "hunted him for weeks, I got to know him pretty well so when I was asked to help put him away again as I know him so well, I didn't hesitate to accept, but I thought a little extra help to prevent a mass panic might be useful, and I get to see my daughter again" Livie smiled at her before allowing her mother to tell them exactly what they did know about Danville and the other two escapees.

They quickly began to build a profile and Ryan and Esposito watched them work looking interested whilst Reid built his geographical profile. Livie helped him with a smile on her face loving that she got to work with her team and her family.

It was late afternoon when they heard a grumpy voice call out "mom" from the bullpen and Kate grinned "hey Kaylee I'm in the conference room" she called quickly popping her head around the door "come on in I have a surprise for you." There was a dramatic huff "well I'd hope cus you told me to come here instead of straight home, I'd be annoyed if there was nothing here for me to do…"

A young girl entered looking very much like her mother and her sister aside from the fact that her eyes were bright blue instead of greenie brown. She broke off from her little rant as she entered and saw all the people assembled. Then she saw Livie and Reid standing by the white boards grinning at her and a huge delighted grin slipped onto her face.

"Livie" she squealed "Spencer" and she dropped her bag and ran the length of the room and flung herself at her sister and Reid sending them both staggering backwards. Laughing Livie hugged her little sister tightly "careful Kaylee bear" she murmured. "I missed you" Kaylee breathed "oh I missed you too Kale so much" Livie whispered as she released her sister and Kaylee grinned "and you brought Spencer back like I asked, hi Spencer my friends at school love all those magic tricks you taught me especially the one with the flying canister though I got in trouble cus I broke a lamp doing that"

"Oops" Reid said looking guilty but Kaylee was still talking "can you teach me more because I loved learning last time, can we make more slime? Oooo and you promised you'd play laser tag with me this time, you can be on my team instead of dad and Danny and Jake can be on the other team and they can be the rebels and we'll be the defenders of Voltar and it'll be so fun and…"

"Kaylee" Kate interjected and her daughter looked round "what" she asked. Kate smiled "breathe" she said "and besides they aren't just here on a visit this time, they are here working on a case with the rest of the team" "oohhhh" Kaylee said seemingly noticing everyone assembled. Instantly she smiled a charmingly cute smile that made everyone smile back "hi" she said "I'm Kaylee Livie's favourite…" "most annoying" Livie chimed in but Kaylee ignored her "favourite…" she repeated "… little sister"

"Oh don't worry we've heard a lot about you" Morgan said grinning and Kaylee looked up at Livie who smiled and introduced her to everyone before she sat down and Kaylee quickly sat down beside her "so are you coming back to the loft" she asked and Livie smiled "got a hotel room actually" she said "courtesy of the FBI so I should really use it" Kaylee pouted but nodded "but you'll come visit right" she said and Livie rolled her eyes "course I will dumb ass" she said "I was actually going to propose that we all go out for dinner maybe tomorrow night" she said looking at her mom "I have something I need to tell you."

Kate nodded eyeing her daughter "sounds perfect" she said "but you can check with your dad in a minute; I told him that he needed to pick Kaylee up from the police station" Livie grinned before she frowned "where are Danny and Jake" she asked Ryan and Esposito "baseball practise" Ryan said "Lanie and Jenny are picking them up" "baseball is boring" Kaylee said "you only say that because you can't hit the ball" Kate said "you like it sure enough when your dad takes you to games" Kaylee shrugged "its fun when you watch it but not fun to play" she elaborated and Kate smiled.

They all chatted with Kaylee whilst they waited for her dad to arrive to pick her up and the whole team was soon won over by her adorable attitude, just as easily as she charmed Reid when he first visited, she charmed the team and Livie was amazed at the power her little sister had.

It was about half an hour later when Livie's father arrived. Livie saw him coming and ambushed him in the bullpen. He laughed in delight and scooped his daughter up into a big bear hug holding her close "ah look at you kiddo" he murmured "what a nice surprise, what you doing in town?" "Working" Livie said with a smile and he grinned before he followed her into the conference room and greeted everyone as he was introduced.

He and Rossi obviously recognised each other's names as they began to compare book sales and soon were complaining to each other about the publishers. Kaylee began to move round chatting to all the team eagerly asking them lots of questions about what they did. "Do you get in lots of fights" she asked Morgan who shrugged "a couple" he said hiding a smirk as he dulled down the excitement of their job "do you fire your gun lots" Kaylee asked "My mum, Javi and Ryan do all the time, their job is well dangerous" "well we probably have about as dangerous a job as your mom" Morgan said and Kaylee grinned "cool" she said "I want to be a police officer when I grow up like mom and Livie"

"Oh god please no" Rick groaned looking up from his conversation with Rossi "not another one, I panic about your mom and sister enough, I can't bare the idea of having to worry about you too" Kaylee pouted "but you always call me Danny and Jake the next generation of crime solvers" she said "so we will be."

"See all your fault" Livie teased her father who's eyes widened "I was joking" he mumbled and they all laughed.

Looking over Livie saw that Kaylee was once again talking animatedly to Reid who was listening with a smile on his face "you know I am actually beginning to think that she is more excited to see him that she is me" she complained "he's just the boyfriend, I'm her older sister." Kaylee looked over at her "no I am excited to see you Livie" she said quickly, leaping up to wrap her arms around Livie's stomach. Reid saw Livie tense at that movement and realised that she was worried that Kaylee might feel the small bump of her pregnant stomach. Luckily though Kaylee was too happy to see her sister to notice that her sister might be slightly larger than the last time she had seen her.

"Alright you" Rick said "home time, let's leave the crime fighters to their work shall we?" "Aww" Kaylee whined "but I wanna stay, I like Livie's team" "and I am sure they all like you but they have to get back to work" Rick said catching hold of her shoulder "come on honey say your goodbyes." With a huff Kaylee said goodbye to everyone giving Reid another big hug and he promised that he would show her another magic trick the next time he saw her. Then Kaylee went and hugged her sister "bye Livie" she said "bye bub" Livie murmured "we'll see you tomorrow evening ok? When we go out for our meal" Kaylee nodded and after giving her mother a quick hug she followed her father out of the office and they heard him promise a fencing battle when they got in.

Now that the little distraction had left they all turned back to their work and profiled for another hour or so before Hotch decided it was time to call it a night. They packed up their belongings and said goodnight to the NYPD team. Livie hugged her mother tightly "see you tomorrow" she murmured and Kate smiled "see you" she whispered kissing the top of her daughter's head before she pulled back to study her "there's something different about you Livs" she murmured "I can't put my finger on what it is but there is definitely something." Livie smiled sheepishly and watched as her mother left the precinct.

Livie let out a breath and took a step back to stand beside Reid "and that is why I am not staying at the loft tonight" she said and he looked at her "you think your mom will figure it out" he asked and she nodded "well she is a detective" she pointed out. She glanced up at him before she turned to look at him fully "I think we should tell her and the rest of my family tomorrow night" she said.

Reid froze "what" he stammered "come on" Livie said "they'll be thrilled" "that or your dad will get really over protective" Reid said and Livie rolled her eyes "no he won't" she said reaching up to cup his face "because he'll see how happy I am" Reid smiled and then nodded "ok" he said and Livie grinned "and then maybe after we tell Hotch we can go visit your mom" she suggested "and I can meet her and then you can tell her she is going to have a grandchild" Reid grinned "I'd like that" he said.

Livie grinned at him as she grabbed her bag and they headed out of the precinct with the others chatting away before they headed to their hotel. When they arrived in their room they ordered some room service before Livie clambered into the bed beside Reid and snuggled up against his chest. "It's good to be home" she mumbled as they listened to the sounds of New York life outside the hotel "are you nervous about telling your parents tomorrow" Reid asked and she shrugged "a little" she said "but I am sure when they see how happy I am with you and about this whole thing then they'll be happy for us and will support us" "I hope so" Reid murmured.

Livie looked up at him from where her head was resting over his heart "come on" she mumbled "lets get some sleep because I am sure tomorrow will be a very busy day" Reid nodded and shifted down into a more comfortable position keeping his arm wrapped around Livie as she cuddled up to him using his chest as a pillow which she said helped her to sleep.

Smiling at her peaceful expression Reid closed his eyes and as usual found his dreams filled with the sounds of laughter and the sight of little children running through the grass at Livie's Hampton home and he found himself lost in the joy and serenity of his dream.
