"The Neighbors: A new Emaya story"

I'm so sorry I've kept you waiting with this one but I've purposefully put it off because writing a wedding scene requires a lot of detail to set the visual I want you to have.

Chapter 51: The Happily Ever After

Fast Forward to July 16, 2016

Emily POV

"Mmm, good morning bride to be," I whisper against her earlobe.

Maya turns her head, leaning into me, "Good morning bride to be," she brushes against my lips.

"Can you believe it's finally here?"

"I know. It's my last time waking up to my partner because from now on I'll be waking up to my wife—my wife. I like the sound of that."

"Me too," I giggle with her.

Maya reaches for her cell phone, "And according to the weather channel app, it's going to be sunny and in the mid-seventies, the perfect weather for an outdoor wedding."

"Thank god. Can you imagine everyone in this house and our moms," we laugh.

"They're going to be ridiculous anyway, at least, mine was the first time around," Maya puts her hand over her forehead feigning a headache.

"Oh, I remember. My mom made me even more nervous than I already was!"

"Well, there are lots of things to do outside so I'm sure they'll find lots to keep them busy."

I drape a leg over her, "I know lots that will keep us busy."

"Emily, we have to get up soon."

"Soon can wait just a little while longer," I kiss her sweetly first then speed up the passion when—

The bedroom door flies open, "Chop chop ladies!" my mom claps her hands. "Enough of that, it's time to get up. You'll have plenty of time for hanky panky after the wedding." Hanky panky? Oh geez...

"She's right ya know," a voice agrees from behind her. Yep, it's Maya's mom.

They walk right into our room and open the drapes and the windows to let some fresh air in.

"Hey! We're naked under here ya know," I yell at my mom.

"We're all ladies here, no need to be modest, not today anyway," Maya's mom pretends to pull the blanket off of us while we hold on tight letting out a shriek and then she winks. So that's who Maya got that from!

"All right you two go get Grace and we'll be out in a second," Maya says grumpily. She doesn't like being woken up by the sun in her eyes or an audience for that matter.

"Don't go back to doing what you were doing. You have a wedding to get ready for," my mom scolds us.

"We know, chop chop," I clap my hands, inciting a smile from Maya.

We kiss and get out of bed laughing at our moms while putting on some pajamas covered by our fluffy bathrobes. We put on our slippers and join everyone in the kitchen. Our moms have let the catering people in and showed them the backyard making sure they set it up properly.

"Coffee's on, help yourselves while we—check on the set up."

"Your mom is so in charge," Maya laughs.

"I know and your mom is being so gracious about it."

"Believe me she's getting her two cents in as well," she says as we sit at the table with Grace.

"But at least she seems to be having fun doing it. My mom's all like nervous energy which makes me nervous."

"Baby, you have nothing to be nervous about."

"Baby! Baby! Baby!" Grace squeals in her little girl voice.

Maya squeezes one of her cheeks and my hand, "That's right you're both my baby."

We pour our coffee and enjoy breakfast with our precious girl. She's two now, the perfect age to waddle down the aisle with her little flower basket in tow. I can't wait to be Maya's wife and I can't wait for her to be mine. To be able to share this with family and friends, and especially our little Grace, will be the most magical of days I could ever imagine.

"So, have you written your wedding vows?" she asks.

"Yes. Have you?"

"Of course! But have you memorized them?"

"You memorized yours?"

"Emily! Do your really need to read it from a paper?"

"I was thinking more like reading it off my arm."

"Emily!"

"I'm teasing. I know what I'm going to say. I've been rehearsing it since the first time I told you I loved you."

"No sir."

"Yes sir. I've known what you mean to me for a long time and now I want our loved ones to know too."

"Aww."

"It's true, my heart has always known. It was my head that needed convincing."

"Mmm. I've never wanted or felt the need to stray but from the moment I met you I knew I couldn't keep my promise to Josh. And every second we spent together added to the light within me, a light I thought was already beaming bright. But you made it so much brighter. I love you Emily."

"I love you too Maya."

Kiss.

"I love you too Mommies!" Grace giggles making us all giggle.

Oh what a glorious day it will be!

"Emily, Maya, you're still eating!" My mom exclaims with that, you have a schedule to keep, tone in her voice.

"We're just finishing up mom."

"Good. The hair and makeup people will be here soon and you need to be showered."

"What about—"

"Grace, don't worry Maya's mom and I will watch her. Now go."

"Okay, okay."

"I love you mom," Maya says with a kiss on the cheek to Pam making her blush and maybe relax just a bit.

I blow her a kiss and off we go to take a shower.

"You wanna go first?" I ask.

She saunters over to me untying my robe slipping it off my shoulders continuing to undress me, "Yeah, I want us to go first."

"Maya, we'll never be ready if we," I lower my voice, "fuck in the shower."

"Emily, how vulgar of you even today of all days, I love it!"

"We can't."

"We can do whatever we want. It's our wedding day and no one else's."

She drops her robe undressing without losing eye contact with me. She takes my hand leading me to the on suite. She turns the water on, tests the temperature, and leads me into the shower stall. I know we shouldn't but who am I to resist. I can't say no. I'll follow you, my love, like a ghost drifting on a sidewalk. I can't say no to you…

The things she did to me in that shower would make a grown man or woman blush! And after today, we'll be doing all of those things as a married couple. I'm not sure there's many married couples out there who make sure adult time is a priority. We will do that. We will love and fuck even with a gold band on our fingers. Maya won't ever let our alone time be sabotaged by work or family. She knows how to make it all work by keeping as much distraction out of our home as possible. I let her because I want that alone time as much as she does. It makes us strong. It makes us whole.

Narrator POV

Pam and Eva go over the menu for the nonalcoholic beverages that will be offered before the ceremony. They do not want anyone drinking too heavily and possibly causing a scene at the nuptials and both Emily and Maya agreed with the idea.

"The caterers have created some invigorating nonalcoholic signature cocktails," Pam shows Eva the drink menu.

"It looks like they're using fresh ingredients as well. I think the guests will appreciate the taste and how delightfully the drinks are presented," Eva points out.

Reading from the menu, Pam begins, "There's a Sparkling Ginger Lemonade which is a fizzy delight getting its kick from honey, fresh ginger, lemon juice and club soda. There's also Lavender-Mint Iced Tea with dried lavender, flowers, mint and honey. A Pure Mojito which is rum free with a mix of fresh mint, lime juice and agave nectar. There's the Refreshing Bellini which is a fruit puree with chilled club soda and lastly Watermelon-Ginger Sparkler with sweet watermelon, lime juice, ginger, sugar and club soda. I think I could use one of those right about now," Pam chuckles.

"I think I'll have one after the ceremony when they add the alcohol," Eva winks not trying to hide a thing!

Wayne calls from the front door, "Honey, the flowers are here! Where should we tell them to put them!"

"Are they the Peonies they wanted?" she yells back.

"Are they the Peonies?" He asks the flower delivery person.

He nods yes.

"Yes!"

"Then have him bring the bouquets to the dining table and the centerpieces outside for each table under the tent!" She commands.

Then Pam starts thinking out loud about everything they need done prior to the 'I do's'.

"Pre-ceremony drinks—check, flowers—check, tables, chairs, tent—check, seating for the ceremony—check, cellist—check. Eva is there anything else we need to check off?"

"Is the bar stocked?"

"Eva."

"Well, the guests will want to loosen up and god knows you could use a little loosening up too Pammy!" She says as she waves her off. "Oh and don't forget to check the cake and the justice of the peace!"

"Knock. Knock," a voice says along with a rap on the door. "Hey it's me Val, hair and makeup are here."

"Coming!" Maya calls to her.

She opens the door welcoming Val with hugs and then tears begin to fill her big brown eyes.

"Maya? What is it?"

"I'm just so happy you could be here. Things were really estranged for a while and I'm just so glad you could make it from New York for me."

"Aww, Maya, of course. I wouldn't miss it! And a little birdie told me the Gallery owner, Mr. Johnston will be here too."

"Really! Oh my god! You all were such an important part of my career. I had to have you here."

"Well, we are and we're beaming for you!"

"Hi Val," Emily approaches her hugging the fit, medium height blonde with blue eyes, flawless skin and of course, sun kissed complexion.

She really is a sweetheart who was there for Maya even though she didn't talk about it. She was her silent sounding board. As I watch them reminisce, I can't help but notice her killer white teeth and intoxicating smile. She is going to make a great coupling with Ryan who broke up with his girlfriend about six months ago.

"So where do you want them to set up?" Val asks.

"Anywhere is fine."

"Okay, I'll bring them up."

"Can you get Grace too?" Maya asks.

"Of course! I love that gal! She's such a little spit-fire!"

"And the moms? Ask them if they want to freshen up their hair and makeup," she adds.

"Sure thing."

"Maya, this is happening, this is really happening."

"Yes it is."

Maya wraps her arms around Emily's neck while Emily surrounds her waist.

"So hair…"

"I'm wearing mine pin straight," Maya says.

"I kinda figured even though my mom would kill us if she knew we were telling each other what we're doing."

"Ha ha! I know right," she gives her a sinister smile, "And you?" She asks knowing full well she should wait to see when she walks down the aisle.

"I think I'm going to add some waves."

"Are you wearing it down or up?"

"I think down since I'll be wearing sleeveless just in case it gets chilly during the ceremony."

"I'm sure whatever you choose," kiss, "will be," kiss, "absolutely," kiss, "beautiful," kiss.

"Mmm, I hear them coming up the stairs," Emily says between kisses.

"Well, then I guess I won't be able to kiss you anymore, not yet anyway."

"I love you."

"I love you too baby."

"Chop chop!" Pammy claps her hands! "Time for you two to go your separate ways for now."

"What? Why?" Maya asks.

"It's tradition. Maya you can't see her before she walks down the aisle and you can't see her, Emily."

"Seriously?"

"Just go with it Maya," Eva encourages not wanting to put a damper on the day by interfering with Pam's tradition.

Maya, Eva and Val remain in their bedroom while Emily, Grace and Pam retreat to Grace's room to get ready.

Maya goes with a long lash look, exemplified by black eyeliner, and browns to shadow her eyes. They pencil her eyebrows picture perfect and add a pink gloss lipstick. They then work on straightening her hair before she can begin getting dressed.

Emily opts for black lashes with a thin black liner around her eyes and shades of pink shadowing her brow. And practically the same lipstick color as Maya. She decides to go wavy to compliment the outdoorsy-ness of the occasion.

Maya gets dressed into her white, slim, three button, upper hip length jacket with white flat front semi-boot leg pants and a peony pink camisole to go underneath her jacket. She slips into white three inch pumps so she can gain some height on Emily who will be wearing flats.

Emily slips into a white strapless, sweetheart neckline dress with a sweep brush train. It's a sleeveless chiffon dress with built in bra. It gathers at the bodice with embroidered lace over the bosom. The front gathers as well flowing down at different lengths until a slight train touches the ground. She chooses a white peep toe with low heels and a rhinestone accent on top of the shoe with the same lace design as the bodice.

Grace, the pretty little flower girl gets some help into a lighter shade of pink dress, her favorite color, which is why Maya and Emily wanted it to be a part of their wedding. It's sleeveless with a sheer pink neckline and satin bodice with a ruffled ribbon at the waist and, of course a pink peony flower gathered at the side of the sash. The lighter pink tulle underneath her skirt aides its fullness. She wears white tights and white flats with a strap over the front of her ankle. She was given a touch of blush and some pink lip gloss. The hair stylist gathered and twisted her brunette hair on each side of her head to meet in the back and bobby pinned together, while the length was curled down making a nice wavy, bouncy look. She has a crown of silk light pink flowers wrapped around her head because, well, Grace wanted one!

Maya's Maid of Honor, Val, adds some mascara and a bit of eyeliner with pinkish eye shadow and pink lip gloss. She wears her hair down like everyone else pinned back almost exactly like little Grace. She's wearing the same color pink dress made out of Chiffon with a scalloped neckline and built in bra. It's knee length and has a sleeveless backless tank gathered at the waist and to the side to form the shape of, what else, but a peony.

And lastly, we can't forget the best man who got dressed at the hotel and has just arrived in a stunning peony pink and white striped silk tie with a thin navy blue accent on the white stripe. He's wearing light khaki suit pants and a four button light khaki suit vest with a white button down and sleeves rolled to the forearm for a sleek yet casual outdoor wedding look. His hair is cut short at the sides and longer on top and he kept his beard and mustache which is nicely groomed.

The moms are both wearing their hair up and Eva has added some extensions for a fuller look. Pam chooses a mint green, one strap over the shoulder dress while Maya's mom has gone with a light blue three quarter length sheer sleeve. Both are wearing heels both looking spectacular.

"Emily, you need to stay here. I'll see if Ryan's arrived and I'll send your father up to escort you down the aisle."

"Okay mom."

"Oh and Emily," she gets all teary eyed trying desperately not to cry and ruin her makeup, "I love you. And you're even more beautiful today than you were the first time. You have a special glow that only Maya could give you."

Emily, too, tries not to cry as Pam gives her a quick kiss on the side of her lips trying not to smudge either's lipstick.

"Mommy, is daddy coming?"

"Absolutely. I bet he's already seated so he can be right on the aisle to see his beautiful girl."

She smiles and they hug and laugh in each other's arms…

"Maya, you are stunning," Eva tells her daughter. "You and Emily are going to be the most beautiful couple ever, gay, straight, bi, whatever, the two of you are gorgeous."

"Oh mom. You're just saying that cuz I'm your daughter."

"No she's not," Val interrupts. "You are stunning and I'm sure Emily is too, just as your mom predicted."

Knock. Knock.

"Is everyone ready?" Pam asks from the other side of the bedroom door. "It's time to take our places."

Maya silently chop chops garnering a quick smile from her lips!

Eva takes her daughter's hands and they take a deep breath. Then she gives Val a hug and they make their way down the stairs to the backyard venue.

The chairs are white with pink bows as Val leads down the white linen aisle followed by Maya's dad, Frank, who opted for a dark grey suit with a light blue tie to match the color of his wife's dress, and her mom, Eva, escort her slowly, not wanting to rush this beautiful moment. Josh gives her a wink in his light grey suit and pink and grey striped tie.

Val steps to the side opposite Ryan admiring his casual yet stylish look, while Maya's parents continue their walk to the platform where they will say their wedding vows. All the while, the beautiful sounds of the cello play in the background. Her parents kiss their daughter on the cheek and leave her with the justice of the peace as Maya waits for Emily's arrival. She feels in her pocket making sure the wedding band is still there and wrings her hands a bit nervously as friends and family look on.

The photographer snaps pictures while the videographer records the event.

And then the wedding march music begins to play with a pretty little flower girl leading the way and a basket of white peonies with dyed pink outlines in tow. She begins to blush from the ooo's and ahh's of the crowd. Maya smiles happily as her little girl sees her mommy and runs down the aisle, as only a two year old can do wrapping her arms around her leg waiting for her other mommy to meet them.

When Maya looks up she is mesmerized by this vision of loveliness on the arm of her dad as her mom looks on trying not to cry. Wayne proudly escorts his beautiful daughter, Emily, down the aisle in his black suit with mint green tie matching that of his wife's dress. Color coordinating is all the rage at this wedding!

Maya looks up if only for a moment to control the tears that want to fall from her eyes but are refused admittance down her cheeks. She takes in several breaths, as this beauty is led down the aisle closer and closer by her dashing dad, about to make their love binding.

Maya takes a step down from the platform as Wayne offers his daughter's hand to hers. She takes it and assists Emily up. They face one another lacing each other's fingertips as their arms fall casually to their sides. Val and Ryan stand behind them as their trusted witnesses to this auspicious event.

Justice of the Peace, Marlene King, begins, "We are gathered here today to witness the exchanging of vows with Emily Fields and Maya St. Germain, two women who began their journey to finding one another in an unexpected way. They chose each other, a choice that no one here would ever dispute. It is the only choice, that's why we are all here today to bear witness to this marriage of two women who love one another and plan on sharing their love forever as it was meant to be. Now, it is my understanding that Emily and Maya have prepared their own vows to say to each other. Emily, Maya, you may begin."

"Maya, I never thought I would ever be saying these things to a woman."

The crowd chuckles along with them.

"But here we are. I love you unconditionally and without hesitation. I vow to love you, encourage you, trust you, and respect you. I will share in your dreams and support you as you strive to achieve your goals. As a family, we will create a home filled with learning, laughter, and light. I promise to work together with you to build a life far better than either of us could imagine alone. Today, I choose you to be my wife. I accept you as you are, and I offer myself in return. I will care for you, stand beside you, and share with you all of life's adversities and all of its joys from this day forward, and all the days of my life."

The crowd cheers as Emily mouths, "I love you."

Maya wipes a tear away that has escaped it's captivity before she begins.

Maya clears her throat, "Emily, I too, didn't expect to find you. I, too, didn't know my heart longed for you. Emily, I take you as you are. I love who you are now and who you are yet to become. I promise to choose you every day, to listen to you with compassion and understanding and to learn from you. I promise to support you and accept your support. I promise to laugh with you, cry with you, grow with you, and create with you. I will celebrate your triumphs and mourn your losses as though they were my own. I will love you and have faith in your love for me, through all our years and all that life may bring to us. Loving what I know of you and trusting what I don't yet know, I give you my hand. I give you my love. I give you myself."

Emily doesn't even try to stop the tears from falling, it's impossible!

"Do you have the rings?"

Emily chokes back more tears as she turns to Ryan who kisses her forehead and hands her the ring. Maya in turn reaches into her pocket for hers.

"Emily, place the ring on Maya's finger," Justice of the Peace Marlene King pauses for a moment, "Do you Maya St. Germain take Emily Fields to be your lawfully wedded wife?"

"I do."

She slips the ring on her finger securely.

"Now Maya place the ring on Emily's finger," again there is a deliberate pause by the Justice of the Peace, "Do you Emily Fields take Maya St. Germain to be your lawfully wedded wife?"

She secures the ring on her finger.

"I do."

Their eyes meet widening with excitement as they wait for those last few words from Justice of the Peace Marlene King, "Emily Fields and Maya St. Germain, I now pronounce you wife and wife. You may kiss your bride."

Emily and Maya kiss sweetly at first with a cheer from the crowd and then add a little more passion inciting whistling and a blushing child to say, "Mommies are kissing!" She puts her hands over her eyes peeking through her fingers. The crowd roars with laughter as do Emily, Maya, Ryan and Val, even Marlene King chuckles.

Emily and Maya kiss tenderly for a few more seconds as the guests begin to settle down.

Justice of the Peace Marlene King calls for everyone's attention, "I now present to you Mrs. and Mrs. Fields-St. Germain."

The guests rise up from their seats clapping and cheering even more loudly as Grace rushes over to them. Maya picks her up with Emily by her side and the photographer gets a great shot of the three, the Fields-St. Germains.

Justice of the Peace Marlene King whispers beside them, "I must admit, your love is the only love that could ever be."

They smile and nod graciously.

And it is with this great love that they will live happily ever after...
