Chapter 7: Nagihiko's big secret
A few days have passed since Ikuto's date with Takano, none of the girls were happy with what they heard happened on said date and were being extra attentive to what was going on around Ikuto, especially Amu. She would not allow anyone to hurt her best friend like that again.
Nadeshiko meanwhile was stuck between a rock and a hard place, she was in love with Rito, hopelessly so but she had gone and talked to her mother and that in turned just confused her more as to what to do, she wasn't so sure she wanted to be Nadeshiko forever. In fact she only became Nadeshiko because unlike Ikuto she didn't want to publicly announce she was gay but even so perhaps she was not as gay as she had thought.
The reason? Rima, Rito's sister, Nadeshiko often found herself just staring at Rima and thinking of how beautiful she was or how cute she looked in her uniform, or that she much preferred hanging out with Rima rather than Rito and felt more like herself around Rima even though they had days where they argued like little kids.
Nadeshiko groaned, she knew she needed to decide what she wanted to do as it wasn't fair towards anyone for her to be this indecisive. Why did she even decide to be Nadeshiko and not just take it like a man? She was getting tired of wearing skirts and talking in such a high pitched voice, in fact it was starting to become hard. She hated lying to Amu them but that's because she lied to them before she knew how accepting and understanding they were.
Nadeshiko just looked at her ceiling in thought before she finally decided what she would do, she sent a text to all her friends that they go for milkshakes in an hour before she went and got dressed.
Amu, Ikuto, Utau, Yaya, Lulu and Rima were sitting at the usual café sipping on their milkshakes and casually chatting among themselves.
"Sorry I'm late guys," A masculine voice said and everyone snapped their heads towards the foreign voice.
There stood Nadeshiko dressed in boys skinny jeans, a untucked button up shirt and loose tie, her hair let down and no make up to be found.
"N-nadi?" Amu asked confused.
"Hey Amu,"
"Why do you look like a boy?" Ikuto asked coming out of his shook.
"Because I am a boy… before you guys explode with all the questions you want to ask me allow me to explain myself," Nagihiko said and everyone silently nodded as he sat down.
"My actual name is Nagihiko Fujisaki, Nadeshiko was an alter ego my mother had me create for my dancing since only females are allowed to do the traditional dances, and my mother had me use Nadeshiko to get in touch with my more feminine side. Right before I entered high school I realized I didn't see myself with a girl, but then again I didn't really see myself with anyone but Tadase told me I was gay so we started dating. I knew that gay wasn't responded well to so when I came to high school I decided to be Nadeshiko full time, then I met you guys and I didn't know how to bring it up. I mean how do I explain that I was actually a boy who was too scared to admit he was gay and that I pretending to be a girl so that I could date boys? I know that doesn't excuse me lying to you guys but I really am sorry, I wanted to tell you and this last while I've really been thinking about what I want to do with my life and firstly I want to stop lying to you guys. Rima," Nagihiko turned his full attention on the clearly shocked blond.
"I am sorry for betraying your trust, you were the deciding factor for my decision to tell everyone, since I wanted to lie to you least of all because you are my best friend. Also regarding Rito I will tell him to and break it off as it stands, I do have romantic interest in him but I lied to him regarding who I am and I don't expect him to just forgive me for something like this, in fact I don't expect any of you to forgive me right now for lying to you, but if maybe one day you can find it in your hearts to forgive me, I would like to join part of the gang again."
Everyone looked at Nagihiko shocked, though he just looked down at the table. He heard Rima's chair scratch against the floor as she ran out of the café.
"Rima!" Amu called and ran after her, Ikuto hot on Amu's trail. The 3 remaining girls looked at purple haired boy at the table, clearly not knowing what to say.
"Neh… Nadi… Nagi… does this mean you are quitting school?" Yaya asked hesitantly.
"No Rima, I am entering as Nadeshiko's identical twin who was abroad and Nadeshiko is 'going abroad'," Nagihiko explained.
"So you have this all figured out?" Utau asked.
"No, but my dad has, he's been waiting for me to drop the Nadeshiko act, he hates it…" Nagihiko said without looking up.
"Well I don't think this should make a difference," Lulu said. "Nadi, Nagi or whatever you prefer to be called is still our friend! And I am pretty sure we all have something we want to hide, I wanted to hide my accent but when it came out you guys accepted me! What makes Nagi's case so different? Utau, Yaya you both are crushing on the same guy, it's not a topic we discuss because we know it makes you both unhappy but that doesn't mean we aren't your friends just because you keep something from us," Lulu said and Utau and Yaya nodded in agreement.
"Thanks Lulu," Nagihiko said smiling sadly. "But I think I'll head home today, today is my treat," he said and put down money to pay for everyone's milkshakes and walked away.
"I'm home…" Nagihiko called.
"Nagihiko my boy!" his dad called excited.
"Not today please dad… I just lost all of my friends," Nagihiko muttered sadly.
