His eyes locked on hers and she hurried off. Ducking down several corridors, thanking her mother - for once - for bringing her up in the hospital, she lost him. However soon saw him again when she went back to Katie's room.
"Hi," he smiled.
"Dr Shepherd," she nodded.
"Dr Shepherd?" he asked. "It was Derek a few hours ago."
"Dr Shepherd," she said, again. "I'm drawing a veil over last night. We were drunk but today you are my boss so please."
He nodded. "Ok I'll let up for now. So our patient."
"Katie Bryce," she nodded.
"I want you to hit the books. I don't know what's wrong with her bloods are clean, scans too."
"So you want me to research in the hope this has happened before?" asked Meredith.
"She's having grand maul seizures there's is something wrong with her. We're just-" he trailed off.
"Missing something," answered Meredith.
"Find what it is and you can scrub in," answered Derek. "I was going to get all the interns on this but I wanna see how good you are."
"Because of my mother?" she asked.
He nodded. "I reckon you've got to be good."
"I'm not going to get by on my mother's name," she answered. "And I don't want to."
She started to walk off.
"Oh and Dr Grey," he said.
She turned back to him.
"If you ever want to talk about," he trailed off letting the obvious 'your mother' hang in the air between them. "Then you know where I am."
She nodded and headed towards the library.
