Chapter 40

*Dorene's POV*

Everyone was called to the Hall of Princes as the search team returned hopefully with news of where the Vampaneze had hidden themselves away. I sat next to Darren and Harkat silently listening as the Vampires tried to devise a way to annihilate the threat hidden in the caves without it ending in a worthless victory. I couldn't help but notice that Darren's friend wasn't among the few that kneeled before the princes. I wasn't sure if Darren noticed or not but it wouldn't help if I started suspecting the worst had happened so I kept quiet. After awhile of vampires arguing about plans to move forward to a victory that wouldn't cause to many injuries or deaths, Darren cleared his throat trying to attract the attention of those gathered in the hall.

Nobody other than Mr. Crepsley and myself heard so he cleared it again and louder. Just as Mr. Crepsly was about to chastise him Darren spoke out among the crowd that had been gathered.

"Princes, I think I may have a plan."

The three Princes gathered at the center of the hall all had there attention as well as everyone else gathered in the hall. With everyone's attention on Darren, Paris' clear voice rang out in the silence addressing Darren.

"Well, a plan is just what we need, please speak to those gathered." With that Darren removed the giant spider that Harkat had been taking care of in his absence from her cage and began describing the craziest plan in the name of all plans, a plan which had everyone laughing o to shocked to do anything but stare, I was among the first group, nearly falling out of my seat.

Darren, Mr. Crepsley, and Seba all left to ready their army of mountain Ba'Halen spiders while I left to my room to pick up Gavner's blades that Darren had given to me the night before. After I retrieved the knife I made my way to the area where Darren and I had agreed to meet, after we finished our separate tasks.

I raced through the caves clutching the knife like a life line and and tried to remember the lay out towards where Darren and I were going to meet. Racing through the tunnels turning this way and that I finally saw the figure of Darren in the distance with an army of spiders in his wake and someone standing next to him.

I sped up a little and when I got closer I saw Darren standing next to his silent friend from the freak show. Darren's friend was looking in my direction while Darren was trying to stay focused on controlling the swarming moving mass of spiders.

I finally joined with Darren and his friend and while panting I managed to say. "Lead the... way... to the... opening." Darren and his friend turned and the mass of spiders moved around us, on the walls, ceiling and ground. If I were scared of spiders I would probably be laying on the ground at this point.

The strange group traveled silently through the caves and soon found ourselves outside and began crawling our way to the opening at the back of the cave that the vampaneze had holed themselves up in. As we got closer I noticed that in the front Darren's friend was going slower and by the way her shoulders were moving I was able to tell that she was having difficulty controlling her breathing.

*Mia's POV*

I lead Darren and Dorene to the opening that I found that lead to the back opening of the cave and watched as Darren with experience got the large, black, swarming mass of spiders into position. The three of us waited in silence listening for the signal given by Mr. Crepsley telling us that he and the old vampire were in position.

Every once in awhile one of us would cast a glance over the rocky ledge that we have hidden our selves by to check and make sure that the vampaneze; Darren told me what they were called and just what they were while we were waiting for Dorene earlier, weren't on to us or haven't moved.

After awhile we heard the signal and Darren sent his army into the cave hopefully just as Mr. Crepsley and the other vampire sent in theirs. Within minutes the cave was full of panicked screams and yells and the spiders were noticed crawling along every open surface they could find within the confines of the cave. I don't know if it was me or the beast but I found that I was enjoying listening to their screams and the spiders crawled on them and bit them.

The three of us remained outside watching and making sure that none of the purple skinned brothers of the vampires escaped into the afternoon, while the fighting started inside. Suddenly Dorene jumped up from my side and raced toward one vampaneze who was going to try their luck running outside, but before they could make it outside she positioned herself in front of them with the blade in front of her pointing right at the enemies stomach.

With no time to turn he ran full force into the blade and the two came tumbling down. Dorene shifted and pushed the dying body off of her and gazed down at the person she had just killed. Her eyes widened as she stared into the face of the male she just killed.

I looked at the skin and noticed that it wasn't as dark as the vampaneze that had taken Evra and I into the sewers that Christmas years before, he must have been newly blooded recently.

*Dorene's POV*

I stared in horror down at the familiar face of the vampaneze that I had just run Gavner's blade through. I took in his light purple skin which wasn't as colorful as the older vampaneze behind me, he was staring at me with the same amount of shock. My mind went to the last conversation that I had with my friends the last time I went 'home'. They told me he had run away but there was no way that I ever expected this.

"Dor...Dorene?" He groaned out with his last breath as tears again fell from my eyes.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to.." I managed to say in between sobs as I pulled his limp body to mine.

"I'm so sorry Damian." A hand was rested on my shoulder and I turned to come face to face with Darren. He was about to say something when a yell from someone we knew resounded from a cave that branched off to the side, a cave that we hadn't noticed at first glance.

Placing Damian's head down on the ground Darren and I both raced over to the small cavern where we saw Arra in a death match with one of the Vampaneze, from my side Darren froze and let out a gasp of shock and then a growl of anger. From under his breath I heard him mutter angerly.

"You will pay for what you did to Gavner."

And with that I was spurred into action, but I got there to late as the Vampaneze was able to thrust the blade in his hand and brought it straight through Arra, she fell to the ground and with a yell of Anger I lunged at the vampaneze, who towered far above me and had far more strength, but I had luck on my side and the blade that had killed a friend now met its mark in my target and he fell with me on top of him.

I stared into his eyes and saw his mouth forming words but they were to quiet where I couldn't hear what he said, behind me Darren was checking on Arra. I looked down to my hands which were covered in splotches of blood and just wanted to curl up and cry due to what I did.

A.N. So yeah for those who forgot Damian is the friend of Dorene's who went looking for her soon after she was blooded by Gavner. I had this planned for awhile and I don't know why I do this to my characters, especially for this sage alone I mean really I am going to hell when this is done.

On the other hand I am I believe if my memory serves correct about half way done with the story so yay, that makes me feel good, and in my opinion it will be getting slightly more interesting but that is me talking and stating my opinion.

Until Next time Peace, Love, and Virtual Hugs.
