Chapter 39: Cinnabar Gym! Volcanic Fire!
"There the transfer is complete!" Kite said as he picked up the pokeball from his pokedex's transfer attachment and placed it on his belt.
Andre, Kite, Daisuke, and Green are walking towards the volcano to challenge Blaine at the Cinnabar Gym.
"Now that I have my Poliwag, this badge is a sure thing" Kite said with confidence.
"So you are going to use all three of your water types?" Daisuke questioned.
"Yes, Gyarados and Poliwag could use some more battle experience" Kite answered.
"Gym battles are a great way to strengthen your pokemon" Andre stated.
"So is Blaine tough?" Green questioned.
"I would say so" Daisuke admitted.
"Blaine is very tough, if you don't have the type advantage then you are at the disadvantage" Andre explained.
"I will win my battle for sure" Kite stated with pride.
"Three water pokemon puts you at a great advantage, just don't underestimate Blaine" Andre said.
"Dang the only type advantage I have is Sandslash since he is a ground type, but he doesn't have any ground type moves" Daisuke said discouraged.
"Your battle will be tougher so I would use your strongest pokemon" Andre stated.
"It's okay I got this" Daisuke said with determination.
The group arrived at the base of the volcano as well as the entrance to the gym which was partially built into the volcano.
"Hi Daisuke!" Ellie smiled waving as she walked out of the gym.
"Hey Ellie, what are you doing here?" Daisuke questioned as he waved.
"Another silly question, I obviously just challenged Blaine" Ellie said with an excited tone.
"Did you win?" Daisuke asked.
"Of course!" Ellie said holding up her badge case revealing Blaine's badge and her other six badges.
"Nice, you just need one more" Daisuke said with a smile.
"Well I will let you get to your battle, see you again hopefully" Ellie smiled towards Daisuke as she walked away waving.
"Who was she?" Kite questioned.
"Just a girl I met on the boat" Daisuke said towards the group.
Daisuke decided it was best not to tell the group that Ellie was the one who owned the Jynx they encountered in the cave.
"Well she seems strong if she has seven badges" Andre stated.
"Yea we will probably see her at the league" Daisuke said.
The group walked into the gym and was greeted by Blaine, "Hello welcome to my gym"
"We are ready for our battle" Kite said with determination.
"Great, then let us get to the stadium" Blaine said, Blaine led the group to a glass elevator that was sticking out the side of the volcano that led all the way to the top.
"Wow this elevator goes all the way to the top?" Green questioned as the group got into the elevator and began to rise to the top.
"Yes, I decided to make it glass so as we go up you can view Cinnabar City and the ocean" Blaine said as he began to enjoy the view.
"Wow that is an amazing view" Kite said as they looked on into the city that looked new and lively.
The group got to the top of the volcano and exited the elevator as they stood on the edge of the volcano's crater. The lava was a ways down from the edge, the battlefield looked like a large metal bridge that had a field in the middle of it.
"Don't worry, the lava is far enough a ways down that the metal bridge won't collapse or anything due to the heat" Blaine explained.
"Andre stated that you said the volcano was no longer active" Daisuke said.
"This volcano only erupts every 1,000 years or so, just so happened 10 years ago was its time" Blaine continued.
"That's crazy" Kite said.
"We got a better looking city out of it though" Blaine said with a smile looking down on the city from the top of the volcano.
"The view from up here is even more amazing" Daisuke said looking down on the city as well.
"So why battle on top of the volcano?" Green questioned.
"I want to test a trainer's fearlessness, if you have the courage to battle over a volcano, then you will have the courage to battle just about anywhere else" Blaine explained.
"I am so pumped now" Daisuke said with excitement.
"Me too, I am ready to battle" Kite said with determination.
"So who is first?" Blaine questioned.
"I'll go" Kite said as he took his side, Blaine got to his side as the ref, Andre, Daisuke, and Green watched from a side that had a little more foot room.
"This 4 on 4 battle will be between Kite the challenger and Blaine the gym leader, winner will be decided once either team has been completely defeated. In addition, only the challenger may substitute pokemon" The ref shouted holding both his flags in the air.
"I'll start with Rapidash" Blaine said as he called out a fiery horse with a horn.
"Let's go Poliwag" Kite shouted as he called out the petite water pokemon.
"Let the battle begin!" The ref shouted waving his flags down indicating the start of the battle.
"Challenger may go first" Blaine said towards Kite.
"Poliwag use hypnosis" Kite commanded, Poliwag shot a multicolored circle towards Rapidash.
"Rapidash dodge and use flame charge" Blaine commanded, Rapidash surrounded itself with red fire and charged towards Poliwag.
"Poliwag use hydro pump" Kite commanded, Poliwag shot a very large stream of water towards the charging Rapidash.
"Rapidash jump into the air" Blaine quickly ordered, Rapidash leaped into the air avoiding the hydro pump.
"Now use stomp" Blaine commanded, Rapidash, who was still in mid-air, shot down towards Poliwag with his hoof out first.
"Poliwag step back now" Kite quickly commanded, Poliwag stepped back a bit as Rapidash crashed his hoof into the ground where Poliwag was just standing.
"Poliwag use double slap" Kite ordered, Poliwag's tail began to glow white. Poliwag jumped towards Rapidash and smacked the horse pokemon across the face once and then swung back around slapping Rapidash in the face a second time.
"Rapidash use stomp" Blaine commanded, Rapidash, who was unharmed by the double slap attack, stomped his hoof into Poliwag into the ground.
The dust settled and Poliwag was stood back up but was in pain.
"Poliwag hang in there, use hypnosis" Kite commanded, Poliwag shot a multicolored circle towards Rapidash. The horse pokemon easily avoided the attack.
"Rapidash use stomp" Blaine commanded, Rapidash jumped in the air above Poliwag and shot downwards with his hoof out first.
"Poliwag jump back" Kite commanded, Poliwag jumped in the air backwards as Rapidash slammed his hoof into the ground. Blaine smirked.
"Rapidash use double kick" Blaine quickly commanded, Rapidash quickly turned his body and used his hind legs and bucked Poliwag straight into the air.
"Poliwag!" Kite shouted in dismay as Poliwag was free falling in the air.
"Now Rapidash use aerial ace" Blaine commanded, Rapidash's horn began to glow white. Rapidash began to run at full sprint towards where Poliwag was falling.
"Rapidash knows a flying type move?" Kite said shocked but a little amazed as well.
White streaks were now flowing around the charging Rapidash, Rapidash jumped in the air towards the free falling Poliwag. Rapidash used his momentum and struck Poliwag sending the pokemon crashing into the ground hard.
Before the dust could clear, there was a white glowing happening within the dust.
"Is Poliwag evolving?" Kite questioned.
"That's quite surprising" Blaine stated.
"Poliwhirl!" The new pokemon shouted as he pumped his fist into the air clearing the dust away showing the trainers his new form.
"Alright Poliwag did evolve, let's check your moves" Kite said as he checked his pokedex.
"That's awesome" Daisuke said observing the battle.
"This is getting interesting" Andre said getting more psyched into the battle.
"Looks as if the tables have turned, but I am not worried" Blaine said with confidence.
"Poliwhirl use hydro pump" Kite commanded, Poliwhirl shot a gigantic stream of water towards Rapidash.
"Yea that is way bigger than Poliwag's hydro pump" Daisuke commented.
"Rapidash dodge then use aerial ace" Blaine commanded, Rapidash avoided the large stream of water and rocketed towards Poliwhirl while glowing white streaks were flowing around the dashing horse pokemon.
Rapidash struck Poliwhirl hard sending the water type flying backwards, Poliwhirl was struggling to get up.
"Rapidash use double kick" Blaine continued.
"Poliwhirl…" Kite began but was interrupted by Poliwhirl getting bucked by Rapidash sending the water pokemon flying backwards.
Poliwhirl continued to try to stand up but struggled.
"Now end it with aerial ace" Blaine commanded, Rapidash shot towards Poliwhirl while white streaks were flowing around the fire horse.
"Poliwhirl quick use hydro pump" Kite quickly commanded. Just before Rapidash struck Poliwhirl, the water pokemon shot a gigantic stream of water colliding with the charging Rapidash point blank sending the fire horse flying backwards.
"Alright Poliwhirl, now use brick break" Kite continued, Poliwhirl dashed towards Rapidash while his right hand was glowing bright red. Rapidash was soaked and struggling to get back up.
Poliwhirl chopped downwards striking Rapidash in the back crashing the horse pokemon into the ground.
"Now end it with hydro pump!" Kite commanded, Poliwhirl jumped above Rapidash and shot the gigantic stream of water downwards on the fire horse causing the pokemon to faint.
"Rapidash is unable to battle, victory goes to Poliwhirl" The ref shouted as Blaine recalled and complimented Rapidash.
"That was an entertaining battle for just being the first round, Ninetails you are next" Blaine said as he called out his fire fox pokemon with nine tails.
"Let's go, Poliwhirl use hydro pump" Kite commanded, Poliwhirl shot a gigantic stream of water towards Ninetails.
"Ninetails use agility then slash" Blaine ordered, Ninetails vanished avoiding the hydro pump then appearing in front of Poliwhirl while the fox pokemon's claws were glowing bright white and were larger in size.
Ninetails slashed Poliwhirl with both claws sending the water pokemon flying backwards fainted.
"Poliwhirl is unable to battle, victory goes to Ninetails" the ref shouted.
"Poliwhirl you did great" Kite said as he recalled his pokemon.
"Gyarados you're up" Kite shouted as he called out his large serpent pokemon.
"That's a fierce looking Gyarados" Blaine complimented.
"Thanks, Gyarados use dragon rage" Kite commanded, Gyarados shot a large blue and black dragon shaped beam towards Ninetails.
"Ninetails agility then slash" Blaine commanded, Ninetails vanished avoiding the dragon rage attack.
"Quick Gyarados use ice fang" Kite quickly ordered. Ninetail's claws grew in size and glowed bright white as the fire pokemon suddenly appeared before Gyarados.
Gyarados's teeth started to glow a bright blue, Ninetail's claws clashed with Gyarados's teeth causing both pokemon to be pushed back.
"Gyarados use hyper beam" Kite commanded, Gyarados began to charge a bright orange ball of energy in his mouth.
"Now fire!" Kite shouted, Gyarados shot a large orange beam of energy towards Ninetails.
"Ninetails use agility then slash" Blaine said casually while chuckling. Ninetails vanished easily avoiding the orange beam of energy.
"Your Gyarados has to recover for a second, now Ninetails" Blaine commanded, Ninetails suddenly appeared in front of Gyarados slashing him with both claws sending the water pokemon flying backwards.
"Gyarados!" Kite shouted in dismay as Gyarados recovered but struggled.
"Ninetails can't be hit by long range attacks" Blaine explained.
"It's true, Ninetails has incredible speed. The crazy thing though is that Ninetails isn't Blaine's fastest pokemon" Andre explained.
"Wow that's going to be tough" Daisuke said concerned.
"What pokemon is his fastest?" Green questioned.
"You'll see" Andre said concentrating on the fight.
"Well it's now or never, Gyarados use dragon rage" Kite commanded, Gyarados shot a large blue and black dragon shaped beam towards Ninetails.
"Didn't I just explain Ninetails can't be hit by long range attacks? Ninetails use agility then slash" Blaine questioned then commanded. Ninetails vanished avoiding the dragon shaped beam easily.
Ninetails claws were glowing bright white and much larger in size suddenly appearing in midair right in front of Gyarados's face, "Quick Gyarados fly above Ninetails" Kite quickly commanded.
Gyarados quickly flew over Ninetails avoiding the slash attack.
"Ninetails has no footing, now your new move, aqua tail go" Kite commanded, Gyarados's large serpent tail became surrounded by spiraling water. Gyarados slammed his water covered tail into Ninetails sending the fire fox crashing into the ground.
"Now use hyper beam" Kite commanded, Gyarados began to charge an even larger orange colored sphere of energy.
"Fire!" Kite shouted, Gyarados shot the large orange colored beam downwards the struggling Ninetails.
"Ninetails agility quick" Blaine quickly commanded, Ninetails barely avoided the hyper beam attack that caused an explosion.
"What?" Kite said in shock.
"Now your pokemon is helpless, Ninetails use thunder fang!" Blaine shouted, Ninetails suddenly appeared right above the free falling Gyarados.
"It's over" Andre stated as the fox pokemon's fangs began to spark with yellow electricity.
Ninetails bit down on Gyarados's body causing the whole serpent pokemon to become electrocuted as the water pokemon crashed into the ground.
Ninetails hopped off the fainted Gyarados as the dust cleared.
"Gyarados is unable to battle, victory goes to Ninetails" the ref shouted.
"Gyarados at least you put up a good fight" Kite complimented his pokemon as he recalled him.
"Once Ninetails used that electric attack I knew it was over" Daisuke said in dismay.
"Is it because Gyarados is both a water and flying type?" Green questioned trying to remember.
"Exactly, it does four times the normal damage" Daisuke explained.
"Making electric types the strongest counter to Gyarados" Andre added in.
"It's okay, I still have my strongest water pokemon, go Blastoise" Kite shouted as his large blue turtle pokemon appeared on the field.
"Blastoise water pulse" Kite commanded, Blastoise formed a sphere of water in his hands and launched it towards Ninetails.
"Ninetails use agility then slash" Blaine commanded, the orb of water hit the ground in front of Ninetails forming into a large wave about to devour the fire pokemon.
Ninetails vanished avoiding the attack and appearing in front of Blastoise while his claws were glowing a bright white and were larger in size.
"Blastoise quick into your shell" Kite commanded, Blastoise retreated into his shell as Ninetails went for the slash.
Both of Ninetails claws slashed against Blastoise's hard shell doing nothing.
"Now use skull bash" Kite commanded, Blastoise shot out of his shell slamming his hard skull into Ninetails sending the fire fox flying backwards.
"Now hydro cannon" Kite ordered, two large blue spheres of water energy began to form from Blastoise's cannons.
Blastoise shot the two spheres towards the struggling Ninetails. Both spheres collided with Ninetails causing a large explosion of water causing it to rain for a second.
The rain stopped as it cleared the dust away revealing Ninetails on the ground fainted.
"Ninetails is unable to battle, victory goes to Blastoise" the ref shouted.
"You still did very well Ninetails" Blaine encouraged as he recalled his pokemon.
"Arcanine you're next" Blaine shouted as a large fiery dog appeared on the field.
"Whoa, Arcanine looks so cool" Daisuke said in amazement.
"Blastoise use rapid spin" Kite commanded, Blastoise withdrew to his shell and began to spin rapidly towards Arcanine.
"Arcanine use crush claw" Blaine commanded, Arcanine's front claws grew in size and began to be surrounded by white electricity.
Arcanine jumped towards the rapidly spinning shell, Arcanine crushed his front claws downwards hitting the shell sending it crashing into the ground.
"Now use dragon pulse" Blaine commanded, Arcanine was free falling towards the shell while forming a multi colored ball of energy in his mouth.
Arcanine fired a large multicolored dragon shaped beam downwards towards the shell.
"Blastoise jump backwards" Kite quickly commanded, Blastoise popped out of his shell and jumped backwards avoiding the dragon shaped beam of energy but was flown backwards a bit by the explosion from the beam crashing into the ground.
"Now use crush claw again" Blaine commanded, Arcanine's claws grew in size while being surrounded by white electricity.
"Blastoise use skull bash" Kite commanded, the top of Blastoise's head began to glow a bright blue.
Arcanine slashed downwards towards Blastoise who shot upwards with his head first. Arcanine's claws clashed with Blastoise's head causing both pokemon to be flown back landing on their respective sides. Both pokemon were breathing heavily.
"Time to show you the true strength of Arcanine, extreme speed go" Blaine commanded, Arcanine became surrounded by a white aura and then suddenly vanished.
"Blastoise quickly into your shell" Kite commanded, right as Blastoise retreated into his shell Arcanine appeared slamming fast and strong into the shell sending it flying.
Arcanine suddenly vanished again quickly appearing in front of the shell slamming it into the sky.
Kite and the group looked into the sky and all they could see was Blastoise's shell being volleyed around in the sky as if it were bouncing.
"I can't even see Arcanine" Kite said in shock and awe.
"Incredible speed" Daisuke said in amazement.
Arcanine suddenly slammed the shell downwards crashing it into the ground hard.
Arcanine then suddenly appeared on his respective side as Blastoise came out of his shell struggling to get up.
"Arcanine end it with crush claw" Blaine commanded, Arcanine dashed towards Blastoise and jumped in the air above the struggling water pokemon.
Arcanine's claws were larger in size and surrounded in white electricity, Arcanine shot downwards claws first towards Blastoise.
"Blastoise quick jump backwards" Kite commanded, Blastoise suddenly jumped backwards narrowly avoiding Arcanine as his claws slammed into the ground.
"Now use hydro cannon" Kite quickly ordered, two large spheres of water energy formed from Blastoise's cannons.
Blastoise shot the spheres of water energy towards the point blank Arcanine, the spheres collided causing an explosion of water causing it to rain for a second.
When the rain stopped Arcanine was fainted, "Arcanine is unable to battle, victory goes to Blastoise" the ref shouted.
"That Blastoise is resilient, but good effort Arcanine" Blaine said as he recalled his Arcanine.
"Blastoise come back for a rest, you did great" Kite complimented his pokemon as he recalled him.
"Magmar you are next" Blaine shouted as Magmar appeared on the field looking ready for battle.
"Wow Blaine's Magmar looks fiercer compared to Kite's" Green commented.
"Probably due to more battle experience, Magmar was Blaine's first pokemon" Andre explained.
"Electabuzz let's go" Kite shouted throwing a pokeball, Electabuzz appeared on the field and was ready for battle.
"Use thunder punch" Kite commanded, Eletabuzz's right fist sparked with electricity as he dashed towards Magmar.
"Magmar counter with fire punch" Blaine commanded, Magmar's right fist engulfed in flames as he dashed towards Electabuzz.
The fist of fire and electricity clashed with great force, there was a struggle for a few seconds until finally an explosion occurred causing both pokemon to fly back to their respective sides.
"Magmar use flame burst" Blaine commanded, Magmar shot a large ball of fire into the air over the stadium. The ball of fire burst into many streaks of flame that rained down towards Electabuzz.
"Electabuzz use light screen" Kite commanded, Electabuzz formed a large box of light energy around him. The many streaks of fire crashed into the screen at once causing a large explosion, Electabuzz was slightly injured from the explosion.
"Now use fire punch" Blaine commanded, Magmar dashed towards Electabuzz while his fist was engulfed in fire.
Before Kite could call a command Electabuzz was struck hard in the face by Magmar's fiery fist sending the electric pokemon flying backwards.
"Now use flame burst" Blaine commanded, Magmar shot a large ball of fire horizontally towards Electabuzz, the ball burst into many streaks of fire that collided with the electric type causing an explosion. When the smoke cleared Electabuzz was on one knee.
"Now we will end it with fire blast" Blaine commanded, Magmar shot a large blast of fire in the shape of 大 towards Electabuzz.
"Electabuzz use electro ball" Kite commanded, Electabuzz shot up forming a large ball of electricity over his head with both hands.
Electabuzz threw the large ball of electricity towards the fire blast, the attacks of fire and electricity clashed causing an explosion and smoke to cover the field.
When the smoke cleared Magmar was standing seemingly unharmed while Electabuzz was breathing heavy.
"Electabuzz use volt tackle" Kite commanded, Electabuzz darted towards Magmar while being surrounded by a large amount of electricity.
"Magmar use flame burst" Blaine commanded, Magmar shot a ball of fire horizontally towards the charging Electabuzz. The ball of fire burst into many streaks of fire that were hurling towards the electric pokemon.
"Electabuzz use thunder punch on the fire streaks" Kite commanded, Electabuzz while still dashing and being surrounded by electricity caused the electricity on his fist to spark a bright blue. Electabuzz began punching each streak of flame coming his way.
"That won't work" Blaine chuckled as the streaks of fire overwhelmed Electabuzz and collided into the electric pokemon causing an explosion.
Before anybody could react Electabuzz shot out of the smoke still surrounded by yellow electricity rocketing towards Magmar while his fist was still sparking with light blue electricity. Electabuzz punched Magmar square in the face with his volt tackle-thunder punch combination sending the fire pokemon flying backwards crashing into the ground hard. Magmar struggled to get up but Electabuzz was hit with the recoil of the attack causing him to fall to one knee.
"Magmar use sunny day" Blaine commanded, Magmar formed an artificial sun in his hands and threw it high in the sky brightening the field and surrounding area. Magmar began to absorb the bright rays from the sun increasing his fire power.
"Magmar just got a boost" Andre said in a slight worried tone.
"Magmar use flame burst" Magmar shot a much larger ball of fire into the sky. The large ball of fire burst into more than double the amount of fire streaks it normally produces. The large amount of fire streaks began to rain down on Electabuzz who was narrowly avoiding each one.
"Electabuzz quick use light screen" Kite quickly commanded but it was too late as Electabuzz was already struck with the many streaks causing an even larger explosion than last time.
When the smoke cleared Electabuzz was on the ground. Just when the ref was about to call it Electabuzz got up but he struggled.
"Wow that Electabuzz definitely has got spirit" Blaine complimented.
"But it ends here, Magmar use fire blast full power" Blaine commanded, with the boost from sunny day, Magmar shot a gigantic blast of fire in the shape of 大 towards Electabuzz.
Electabuzz looked back at Kite with determination and faced the oncoming blast. Electabuzz began to charge yellow electricity all around him gaining power. The electricity suddenly turned into a bright blue and there was now a large amount of blue electricity surrounding Electabuzz.
The large blast of fire was coming straight towards the electric pokemon as he held out both his arms with his palms facing the blast.
"I see what you are doing, you learned thunder" Kite smirked under his breath as he checked his pokedex.
"Electabuzz use thunder full power!" Kite commanded, Electabuzz shot a gigantic bolt of blue electricity towards the gigantic blast of fire.
The two attacks clashed and began a power struggle as both attacks were not budging an inch.
The center of the clash was getting brighter and brighter as the fire and electric energies were clashing together.
A large explosion occurred the covered the entire field with a dome of white energy.
When the energy dissipated both pokemon were on the ground fainted.
"Both pokemon are unable to battle, therefore since Kite still has one pokemon he is the winner" the ref shouted.
"Alright! Great job Electabuzz!" Kite shouted recalling his fainted pokemon and smiled at the pokeball.
"It was a good idea of Kite to sub Blastoise when he did" Andre explained.
"Indeed" Daisuke said as the group walked around the edge of the volcano towards Kite congratulating him.
Blaine met the group by the elevator and handed Kite the volcano badge, it was a red badge in the shape of a flame with an orange gem in the center.
"Great battle Kite, your pokemon show strong determination, just like their trainer" Blaine said as he complimented Kite.
"Just one badge to go" Kite smiled as he put the badge in his badge case.
"Daisuke we will have our match after lunch, please meet me back up here at 2 pm" Blaine said to the excited trainer.
The group of Kite, Daisuke, Andre, and Green went back into the elevator and were now on ground floor. They excited the gym and headed towards the Pokemon Center so Kite could rest his pokemon and they could eat.
"So are you pumped up man?" Kite asked Daisuke.
