Chapter 40: Total Loss! Daisuke vs Blaine!
"So did you get team all set?" Andre questioned Daisuke as the group walked into the gym and rode the elevator towards the top of the volcano.
"Of course" Daisuke said with confidence, the elevator made it to the top of the volcano and the group exited.
Blaine was already on his side of the field while the ref was standing in his spot.
"Good luck man" Kite said towards Daisuke, Daisuke gave him the thumbs up with determination.
"This is so sketchy" Green said as the group walked on the edge of the volcano to their side by the ref.
"This 4 on 4 battle will be between Daisuke the challenger and Blaine the gym leader, winner will be decided once either team has been completely defeated. In addition, only the challenger may substitute pokemon" The ref shouted holding both his flags in the air.
"Rapidash you're up" Blaine said as his fire horse pokemon appeared on the field.
"Jolteon let's go" Daisuke said as his electric pokemon appeared on the field.
"Jolteon? He just obtained it" Andre said in confusion.
"Jolteon use quick attack" Daisuke commanded, Jolteon darted toward Rapidash at lightning speed.
"Rapidash use flame charge" Blaine commanded, Rapidash became surrounded by red flame and charged towards Jolteon.
"Jolteon jump quickly" Daisuke quickly commanded, Jolteon jumped high in the air due to his speed narrowly avoiding Rapidash.
"Now use swift" Daisuke commanded, Jolteon shot many gold energy stars out of his mouth toward Rapidash. The stars collided with the fire pokemon causing a small explosion.
"Rapidash use aerial ace" Blaine commanded, Rapidash shot out of the smoke dashing towards where Jolteon is free falling.
Rapidash now was being surrounded by white streaks as his speed was rapidly increasing. Jolteon was helpless as he was free falling. Rapidash jumped into the air fast and slammed into the free falling Jolteon sending the electric type crashing into the ground hard.
"Jolteon!" Daisuke shouted in dismay as the electric pokemon struggled to get up.
"Now use stomp" Blaine commanded, Rapidash jumped in the air over Jolteon and held his front hooves out first as he plummeted towards Jolteon.
"Jolteon back up" Daisuke commanded, Jolteon jumped backwards narrowly avoiding Rapidash slamming his front hooves into the ground.
"Double kick quick" Blaine quickly ordered, Rapidash quickly turned around and bucked Jolteon with both his hind legs at once sending the electric type flying backwards fainted.
"Jolteon is unable to battle, victory goes to Rapidash" the ref shouted.
"Nice try Jolteon" Daisuke smiled as he recalled his pokemon.
"Sandslash let's go" Daisuke shouted as Sandslash appeared on the field ready for battle.
"Sandslash use gyro ball go" Daisuke commanded, Sandslash curled up and began to spin so fast a green ring appeared around him.
The rapidly spinning Sandslash darted towards Rapidash.
"Rapidash use flame charge" Blaine commanded, Rapidash became surrounded by red fire as he charged towards the rapidly spinning Sandslash.
"Sandslash spin up" Daisuke commanded, Sandslash redirected his spinning avoiding the fiery Rapidash by going over him.
"Crush claw go" Daisuke quickly added, Sandslash stopped spinning and was now right above Rapidash. Sandslash's claw began to spark with white electricity while growing slightly.
"Same strategy as last time" Blaine retorted.
"Rapidash use double kick" Blaine commanded, Rapidash back was facing towards the incoming Sandslash. Rapidash connected one of his hind leg's hoof with Sandslash's claw while connecting the other hind leg's hoof into Sandslash's gut sending the ground type flying backwards in pain towards his respective side.
"Rapidash use aerial ace" Blaine commanded as Rapidash rocketed towards Sandslash while being surrounded by white streaks.
"Sandslash use gyro ball again" Daisuke commanded, Sandslash spun rapidly towards Rapidash while a green ring surrounded the rapidly spinning pokemon.
Rapidash clashed with the spinning pokemon sending Sandslash straight into the air cancelling out his spin. Sandslash was now free falling towards the ground.
"Use aerial ace again" Blaine commanded, Rapidash ran to the edge of the field then began to dart in the direction of the free falling Sandslash while white streaks surrounded the fire horse.
"Sandslash quickly stabilize" Daisuke commanded, Sandslash stabilized in midair only to see Rapidash darting straight towards him.
"End it Rapidash!" Blaine shouted, Rapidash jumped in the air rocketing towards Sandslash.
"Quick Sandslash use focus blast" Daisuke quickly ordered, Sandslash began to form a sphere of blue energy from his claws.
Right before Rapidash's attack connected, Sandslash slammed the sphere of blue energy straight into Rapidash. The sphere carried Rapidash into the ground causing an explosion of blue energy.
"Now crush claw" Daisuke added, Sandslash, who was still free falling, shot downwards towards Rapidash while his claw grew in size sparking with white electricity.
Sandslash crushed his claw downwards into Rapidash causing a slight explosion, when the smoke cleared Sandslash was standing over the fainted Rapidash.
"Rapidash is unable to battle, victory goes to Sandslash" the ref shouted.
"You did great" Blaine complimented his pokemon as he recalled it.
"Arcanine you're next" Blaine shouted as Arcanine appeared on the field.
"So he went with Arcanine next" Daisuke thought to himself worried.
"Sandslash use focus blast" Daisuke commanded, Sandslash formed a sphere of blue energy and shot it towards Arcanine.
"Extreme speed" Blaine ordered, Arcanine vanished avoiding the sphere of energy. Arcanine suddenly appeared in front of Sandslash slamming into the ground type sending him flying into the air.
Before Daisuke could react, Sandslash was being bounced around in the air by Arcanine constantly hitting him.
"End it with crush claw" Blaine commanded, Sandslash was now in the center of the sky over the field as Arcanine appeared above the ground type.
Arcanine's claw was much larger in size as it sparked with white electricity, Arcanine slammed his claw into Sandslash sending the ground type crashing into the ground hard.
Arcanine landed on his side with no harm, when the dust settled Sandslash was out cold.
"Sandslash is unable to battle, victory goes to Arcanine" the ref shouted.
"Good job Sandslash" Daisuke complimented his pokemon as he recalled him.
"Growlithe let's go" Daisuke shouted as Growlithe appeared on the field.
"Use flame wheel" Daisuke commanded, Growlithe became surrounded by flame and curled up into a wheel shape and sped towards Arcanine.
"Arcanine use dragon pulse" Blaine commanded, Arcanine fired a multicolored dragon shaped beam from his mouth towards the incoming Growlithe.
"Growlithe jump" Daisuke commanded, the fiery wheel shot upwards in an attempt to avoid the dragon shaped beam.
Blaine smirked as the beam redirected towards Growlithe who was now in the air. The beam collided with Growlithe causing an explosion and the fire dog crashed into the ground hard.
"End it with crush claw" Blaine commanded, Arcanine darted towards the struggling Growlithe.
Arcanine jumped and suddenly appeared above Growlithe while his claw was much larger and sparking with white electricity.
Arcanine slammed his claw into Growlithe causing a slight explosion, when the dust cleared Growlithe was fainted.
"Growlithe is unable to battle, victory goes to Arcanine" the ref shouted.
"Damn, I'm already down to my last pokemon" Daisuke worried to himself.
"Charmeleon it's up to you" Daisuke shouted as his fire lizard pokemon appeared on the field.
"Charmeleon use dragon rage" Daisuke commanded, Charmeleon fired a blue and black dragon shaped beam towards Arcanine.
"Arcanine use dragon pulse" Blaine commanded, Arcanine fired a multicolored dragon shaped beam towards Charmeleon.
The two dragon shaped beams collided causing a power struggle between Arcanine and Charmeleon as the two energies clashed.
The multicolored energy was overpowering the blue and black colored energy which caused it to deplete. Arcanine shot another burst giving the multicolored dragon shaped beam a power boost as it continued towards Charmeleon.
The large dragon shaped beam collided with Charmeleon causing an explosion and the fire lizard to be thrown backwards.
"Charmeleon!" Daisuke shouted in dismay as his pokemon struggled getting up.
"Now use crush claw" Blaine commanded, Arcanine charged towards Charmeleon while his claws grew in size and sparked with white electricity.
"Charmeleon counter with metal claw" Daisuke commanded, Charmeleon's claws turned into metal just as Arcanine appeared above Charmeleon.
Charmeleon blocked Arcanine's downwards swipe attempt, Arcanine and Charmeleon began swiping at each other clashing claws back to back waiting for the other to make a mistake.
"Charmeleon quick use smokescreen" Daisuke quickly commanded, Charmeleon knocked back Arcanine's claws while spewing smoke covering Arcanine.
"Now back away and use dragon rage" Daisuke added, Charmeleon jumped back and fired a dragon shaped blue and black beam at the smoke covering Arcanine.
"Arcanine extreme speed" Blaine commanded, a second later the dragon shaped beam hit the smoke causing an explosion.
"Did we make it in time?" Daisuke questioned as the smoke cleared. Seconds later Charmeleon was slammed into hard by the very fast Arcanine.
"Keep it up" Blaine continued the assault, Arcanine slammed into Charmeleon sending him into the air. Arcanine began slamming Charmeleon around so fast it looked as if the fire lizard was bouncing around in the sky.
"End it with crush claw" Blaine commanded, Arcanine appeared directly above the midair Charmeleon with his claw growing in size and sparking with white electricity.
"Charmeleon quick use dragon rage" Daisuke quickly ordered, Charmeleon managed to shoot off a dragon shaped blue and black beam right before being struck by Arcanine. The blue and black beam collided with the point blank Arcanine causing a midair explosion and Arcanine to crash into the ground. Charmeleon stuck the landing but fell to one knee in pain.
Arcanine attempted to stand but ended up fainting.
"Arcanine is unable to battle, victory goes to Charmeleon" the ref shouted.
"Way to go Charmeleon!" Daisuke shouted praising his pokemon.
"This battle will end here, Magmar go" Blaine shouted as the fierce Magmar appeared on the field.
"Charmeleon use metal claw" Daisuke commanded, Charmeleon dashed towards Magmar while his claws turned into steel.
"Magmar dodge then use fire punch" Blaine commanded, Charmeleon swiped with both claws simultaneously as Magmar jumped back avoiding the claws. Magmar's fist then engulfed in flames as he decked Charmeleon squared in the face sending the fire type flying backwards.
"Charmeleon use dragon rage" Daisuke commanded, Charmeleon struggled as he got up and fired a large blue and black dragon shaped beam towards Magmar.
"Magmar use fire blast" Blaine commanded, Magmar shot a large blast of fire in the shape of 大 towards Charmeleon.
The blast of fire and the dragon shape beam collided starting a power struggle. Charmeleon was overwhelmed again as the fire blasted through his dragon rage attack and struck the fire lizard causing some damage.
"End it with a fire punch volley" Blaine commanded, Magmar appeared in front of the hazed Charmeleon and began to unleash a volley of punches with his fire engulfed fists. Magmar ended the combo with one final blow to the chin sending Charmeleon flying backwards fainted.
"Charmeleon is unable to battle, Daisuke is out of usable pokemon. Therefore, gym leader Blaine is the winner" the ref shouted.
"We will get them next time for sure Charmeleon" Daisuke assured his pokemon as he recalled him.
"That was a nice try but I suggest you train a little more" Blaine suggested to Daisuke, Daisuke nodded as he walked over to the elevator and awaited his friends.
"You'll get it next time man" Kite said as he assured his friend as they walked over to Daisuke.
"What he said" Green smiled.
"Come back in the morning before 10 if you want a rematch" Blaine said as the elevator door dinged open and the group entered the elevator.
"Not trying to question your strategy or anything, but why didn't you use Dragonair?" Andre questioned as the door to the elevator closed.
"Well I just wanted to get Jolteon some battle experience" Daisuke said.
"But its first battle shouldn't be a gym match" Andre stated.
"I see your point, but that's the best kind of battle" Daisuke said contemplating as the group reached ground level.
"You would have had a better chance with Dragonair" Andre continued.
"Well let's get some training in so you can win next time" Kite chimed in.
"Agreed, I am going to win for sure next time" Daisuke said with determination.
"Let's go train in the park" Andre suggested.
"I will meet you all there, I need to go heal my pokemon" Daisuke said as he walked towards the Pokemon Center.
"I have to use Dragonair next time, but…" Daisuke thought to himself as he transferred Jolteon via his pokedex with the message 'Send Dragonair' to Prof. Oak lab.
Daisuke awaited for his pokemon to be healed and for Prof. Oak to transfer his Dragonair. Daisuke grabbed a bite to eat and continued to think about his battle and his future battle.
As Daisuke walked out of the Pokemon Center his pokedex made a ding sound. Daisuke received a message from Prof. Oak saying 'Sending Dragonair now.'
The pokeball appeared on the transfer device connected to the pokedex and Daisuke put it on his belt and replied with a 'Thank You.'
Daisuke made his way to the park and noticed the others already training.
Kite's pokemon consisted of Blastoise, Pikachu, Poliwhirl, Butterfree, Hitmonchan, and Primeape.
"I see you made some transfers" Daisuke said as he walked up next to Kite.
"I figured I should train some of my other pokemon as well" Kite said.
"I am just using these three" Andre said, his pokemon consisted of Charizard, Aerodactyl, and Pinsir, a bipedal bug with twin spiky horns that form a pincer.
"I'm getting some training in as well" Green said as her pokemon were Bulbasaur, Vaporeon, and Lapras.
Daisuke called out Charmeleon, Pidgeotto, Sandslash, Scyther, Growlithe, and Dragonair.
"So you are going to use Dragonair?" Andre questioned.
"Of course" Daisuke nodded.
The pokemon started to train, Charizard and Blastoise trained with Charmeleon and Bulbasaur, Pinsir trained with Scyther and Butterfree, Hitmonchan was training Primeape and Poliwhirl in fighting style, Aerodactyl trained with the rest.
Later That Evening…
After hours of training the group headed back to Andre's house where his mom cooked them some spaghetti and meatballs. The group chowed down on the home cooked meal and relaxed on the furniture in the living room. Andre went to his room and fell asleep, Green fell asleep in the guest bedroom while Daisuke and Kite got to sleep on the couches.
Thinking Kite was asleep, Daisuke got up and went outside and gazed upon the sky full of stars.
Daisuke called out his pokemon he trained with earlier and let them enjoy the fresh air. His pokemon sort of played around for a while as Daisuke continued to gaze into the sky.
"Thanks for sticking by my side, tomorrow we will win for sure!" Daisuke smiled to his pokemon with confidence. Daisuke's pokemon all smiled back and showed their determination. Daisuke recalled his pokemon and was just about to go inside to go sleep until Kite walked out.
"So this is where you went" Kite said as he sat next to Daisuke looking at the stars.
"Looking at the stars always gives me peace at mind" Daisuke said.
"For sure, but let me ask you a question" Kite said towards Daisuke.
"Go for it" Daisuke said.
"Why didn't you use Dragonair? That could have been the difference maker" Kite questioned.
"Well in all honesty, I just got a little worried" Daisuke replied.
"About?" Kite continued.
"What if Dragonair evolves to Dragonite but I can't control him, what if he is too powerful for me?" Daisuke continued to worry.
"Don't worry about things like that, throughout are journey we have encountered strong opponents, but that is why we have gotten so strong" Kite explained.
"You are as powerful as your pokemon, so don't think you're not strong enough because then your pokemon won't think they are strong" Kite continued.
"What about the league though? What if I lose out?" Daisuke began to worry more.
"Worrying is not going to help, but if you believe in your pokemon then they will believe in you. At that point anything can happen, just have the determination" Kite said with determination.
"You're pokemon will be with you until the end" Kite reassured.
"Just like we will be friends until the end" Kite smiled as he gave Daisuke a fist bump.
"Thanks man, I won't worry about the future, I'll stay determined to win" Daisuke said as the two got up to go inside.
"But you know, only one of us can win the league" Kite said.
"True, if we happen to meet in the finals, don't hold back. I'm going to give it everything I got" Daisuke said with determination.
"Of course, I wouldn't want it any other way" Kite smiled back with determination.
Daisuke and Kite exchanged one final fist bump before they both crashed on separate couches.
"I'm gonna be the very best, like no one ever was" Daisuke thought to himself as he closed his eyes and went to sleep ready for his rematch tomorrow.
