Chapter Twenty-One: Big Trouble In Little Alola

Ash Ketchum was free. As free as a dove. Ash scurried to the detention centre as fast as his tired legs would allow him. He had only been in Alola for two weeks, but he really enjoyed the warm days and cool nights. He came to Alola with his older brothers: Red and Silver along with Red's twin sister, Leaf. They heard that Alola was different to the other Pokémon regions and had a different style of battling and culture.

But little did he knew that things were about to change once again. One day, he was in class, when suddenly they he was alarmed by the sound of an epic bang. Ash remembered black fog clearly wiping out most of the blue sky. Fortunately, there was no casualties, but, a Pokémon centre was blown to smithereens. Ash could have only imagined the tremendous stress the Pokémon health services had gone through to ensure that their patients were alive and well. All of the staff in the other Pokémon centres had just had their workload doubled overnight.

And somebody had been arrested for the explosion. Somebody that Ash knew very well: it was the rare and legendary psychic Pokémon: Mewtwo. Ash shook his head as continued to run as if his life depended on it. Mewtwo was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time and even though, Mewtwo had a troubled past: he had changed. He was able to trust humans and find peace in the world.

He was then reminded of himself. Five years ago, he lost his mother. To make matters worse, he was arrested for her murder. He was ready to declare his life over as he had lost all hope of ever being freed or ever becoming a Pokémon master. However, his girlfriend, May Maple had become a lawyer and with her effort he was able to discover the bitter truth behind his mother's death. Because of May, he was able to believe in himself again and because she had given up her dreams to revive his, he would always love her for it.

"I've gotta do something," Ash cried out to Pikachu. "I can't let Mewtwo go down for a crime he didn't commit."

"Pika!"

Ash stopped running as soon as he went to the detention centre. The guards guided him to Mewtwo's cell. The pain in Ash as he watched Mewtwo curl himself into a ball travelled all over his body. It ached in his stomach and chest the most.

"Mewtwo!" Ash cried out. Mewtwo's body was surrounded by wires. Ash realised that they were there to stop Mewtwo from escaping using his psychic powers.

"You again?" Mewtwo slowly lifted his head. "We always seem to meet unusual circumstances."

"Mewtwo!" Ash cried out with his entire body against the glass. His eyes began to water. He considered Mewtwo a dear friend, despite not seeing each other in ten years. He couldn't bare to see Mewtwo locked up for something he didn't commit. He didn't understand the full circumstances, but he knew that Mewtwo was innocent. Watching Mewtwo turn his back on Ash reminded him of himself when he was stuck behind bars. "I'm going to get you a defence attorney."

"A defence attorney?" Mewtwo's words echoed in his mind.

"Yeah!" Ash nodded as he held onto the bars. "My girlfriend, her name is May. She's a defence attorney, she'll help us!"

"What are those?" Mewtwo asked curiously.

"Somebody that helps you when nobody else believes in you." Ash slammed his fist against the glass.

"Do you think she can get me out of here?"

"Of course she can!"

"I hope so," Mewtwo admitted, wincing from the pain he received from the electronic vibes pumping in his brain.

Ash snatched his phone from out of his pocket. He panted as he pressed the buttons on his phone. "I'm ringing her now."

"Hello!"

Ash was so relieved when May picked up.

"May!" Ash cried out. "Listen, you gotta take this case on!"

"Case?" May sounded surprised from the shrieking tone of her voice. "But Ash, I'm on vacation."

Ash shook his head as he continued to speak. "Please don't hang up on me," he said in a state of panic. "It's my friend, Mewtwo. He's a Pokémon. They're saying he's the one that caused the explosion. But it's not true. He was set up!"

May gasped. "Is it really that bad? Where are you?"

"I'm in the detention centre in Hau'oli City in Melemele Island ," Ash yelled through the phone. "I know you're on vacation, but this is important. Only you can do this."

"Only me?" May sounded slouchy over the phone. "Surely there are some other lawyers out there."

"May!" Ash screamed down the phone. "What are you talking about? You're the best lawyer in the world."

"I'm not that good," May told him.

"Are you coming or not?" His voice cracked down the phone.

"Yeah," May yawned. "I'll be there as soon as possible."

"Great!" Ash said with a smirk on his face. "See you later!"

"PIKA!" Pikachu jumped on Ash's shoulder and raised his little hands in the air.

On the other side of the phone. May hung up, sighed as she rested her back against the warm sand and buried her phone in her bag. She steered her eyes away from the sun and sighed. "Looks like I've got work to do," May announced as she stood herself up. "But...where is the detention centre?"

"What's up?" Trucy asked, slowly opening her eyes.

"Looks like my tan will have to wait," May said as she got her clothes back on. "I'm meeting Ash in the detention centre."

Trucy gasped, and covered her mouth. "Has he been arrested again?"

"No." May shook her head. "Thank God!"

"Come on Thalassa!" Trucy called out her Altaria that gracefully twirled around the two women. "Let's look for the detention centre."

The islands in Alola were small compared to the other regions May had been in. It didn't take long to find the detention centre. As soon as they stood foot outside the detention centre, Trucy returned Thalassa the Altaria back in her ball, and followed May into the detention centre.

"What took you guys so long?" Ash complained a he ran over to May and squeezed her tight.

"I didn't think we were that long," May admitted.

"No time for arguing now," Ash panted. "This guy behind me is Mewtwo."

"So this is my defence attorney?" Mewtwo asked, gazing into May's eyes. The way that Ash and May hugged each other appeared to have made a lasting impression on him. "What's the difference between a defence attorney and a girlfriend."

"Well..." May began to speak, but her lips mumbled. She couldn't think of anything else to say at first, but then she thought about the way she was with Ash. "I guess the main core of a girlfriend and defence attorney are pretty much similar."

"In what way?" Mewtwo asked. "They sound like two very different things."

"I think we should change the topic," May decided as she smiled and took a seat. She sat in between Ash and Trucy. "So Mewtwo, what happened?"

"I was looking for a peaceful region," Mewtwo explained. "A place that me and my clones could find more ways to thrive. Our original hideout became too populated for my liking after Team Rocket's little invasion."

"Little invasion?" May repeated. She steered her head towards Ash and asked him, "Do you know anything about this, Ash?"

Ash nodded. "My father ordered his creation."

"Why would you want to stop your father gaining control over Mewtwo?"

"Because Team Rocket were bad guys," Ash explained. "Even if Giovanni was my father, I had to stop him, otherwise Mewtwo would have died."

"So Mewtwo," Trucy said. "Can you tell us a little more about yourself?"

"I was created in a laboratory in Kanto," Mewtwo explained. "I was created in order to be the strongest Pokémon in the world."

"And that would explain why you've got all these wires around you," May said ass she bit her lip.

"These are like chains to me," Mewtwo hissed. "They are absorbing my power to prevent my escape."

"This is cruel!" Trucy cried out. "They can't detain a Pokémon like this!"

"By law they can," Ash hissed. "By law they can detain a legendary Pokémon if they feel that they are a threat to society!"

"Wait!" Trucy cried out. She looked at Mewtwo. "You said you have some clones? As in clones of you or of other Pokémon?"

"Other Kanto Pokémon," Ash replied. "Where are they now?"

"They're out exploring the tropical cities of this region," Mewtwo responded. "I can only pray that they're safe."

"It looks like we've got a lot of investigation to do," May said. "I'll try and do some investigations for you. I'm happy to defend you in court."

"That's the spirit!" Ash cried out to May. "And I'm going to help you win this case."

"In what way?" May asked, raising an eyebrow. "Have you got evidence to prove that Mewtwo didn't blow up that Pokémon centre?"

Ash shook his head. "I wish I did. I'm going to help you by being your co-counsel. I know this place better than you, Come with me!"

May had always been looking forward to her first day in Hau'Oli City since hearing the rave reviews about the tropical city online. Now as she took a deep breath, it didn't take a genius to know that was unhappy. Her trip to Alola was meant to be a getaway from all the stress that she had from work. It was suppose to be her first holiday in over five years. She just wanted to forget about law for a moment and take time to relax on the beaches and grab a romantic date with Ash.

May had come to terms with the fact that her job would always find ways to keep her busy. And as a lawyer, there was no such thing as a vacation. She followed the area where the black smoke was coming. She approached the smoke and started coughing as she steered towards a bent tree. Ash, Trucy and Pikachu were not far behind May as they ran at the same speed as her.

"This is what remains of the Pokémon centre," Ash explained. "Even though there were no reported fatalities so far, they're still looking for bodies."

"It must have been a big Pokémon centre for it to have caused this much smoke," May said as the smoke began to fade away. As the smoke slowly began to vanish, May could see what the figures behind the smoke were: they were a team of investigators looking for whatever they can find.

"Actually, it was quite small," Ash explained. "Compared to other Pokémon centres out there. But this is one of the main ones in Alola."

"Really?" May gasped. "Then how could it have caused such an explosion?"

"That's why they think a Pokémon did it," Ash said, clutching onto Pikachu. "Some strange psychic power destroyed only the building, but nothing else. And Mewtwo is a psychic type, so it made him the prime suspect."

"It makes sense," Trucy added. "If a human caused the explosion then nobody would have survived."

"I don't think Mewtwo had anything to do with the explosion," May stated as she looked around and noticed a poster on the floor. There part of the poster where the photo should be was burned away. She picked up the poster as her eyes widened at the sight of the bold text. Her stomach only churned harder when she saw what the words were.

WANTED: ASH THE STAMPEDE

"Ash The Stampede?" Ash gasped, quickly raising his eyes. "The poster's all burned up."

"Have you heard of this guy?" May questioned.

Ash shook his head. "Nope. Never heard of him." Pikachu nodded his head in agreement.

"Whoever this Ash The Stampede guy is, he could be related to the explosion," May added. Her instincts were telling her that Ash The Stampede was responsible for the explosion, but the only evidence they had was a burned up poster with no picture.

"What if Mewtwo was trying to save the people?" Trucy suggested. "It would make sense. Mewtwo might have seen someone try to destroy the building, and used his psychic powers not to destroy the centre, but to save the everyone inside."

"That would explain why nobody was

The police force began to hurry towards them. May jumped in front of Ash and latched onto his hands. Her heart began to race as she closed her eyes shut. They were coming for Ash, she knew they were. His first name was on that poster and they think that Ash is the Ash The Stampede that they're going on about. "I'm not letting them have Ash!"

"May," Trucy said. "You shouldn't jump to conclusions so soon. They might only want to ask questions."

May shook her head. "Knowing our luck, I highly doubt that."

"I think we've had some pretty decent luck so far," Trucy admitted.

The police stopped in front of them. A tall man in a trench coat burst out from the crowd of police. May quickly recognised him as Detective Looker. He was a detective that May had met in her first trial: The State Vs. Sakura Haruno. May could see that the detective had his eyes set on Ash. He also had a poster that was identical to the one in May's hand.

"Your Ash Ketchum aren't you?" Detective Looker asked Ash.

"Yes," Ash said back.

Detective Looker marched over and grabbed Ash by the arm and dragged him away from May. "Then you must be Ash The Stampede."

"NO!" Ash yelled. "You're making a mistake."

"He's right!" May cried out as she pulled Ash back towards her chest. "Just because his name is Ash it doesn't make him Ash The Stampede."

"People in Alola had received posters about Ash The Stampede," Detective Looker announced. "Ash was scared that it would ruin his reputation as a trainer, so he met up with Mewtwo and they planned to destroy the building where the posters were being created."

"That makes no sense," May cried out. "I am Mewtwo's lawyer and Ash was in school when the explosion took place so there's no way he was involved in this."

"And besides!" Trucy added as she pushed herself in front of Detective Looker. "When May decided to defend Mewtwo, Ash volunteered to help straight away!"

"You girls should go back to sunbathing," Detective Looker suggested. May seethed in anger, feeling the urge to punch Detective Looker as Trucy dragged her away from him. "In the meantime, Ash is coming with me. He used Mewtwo as an accomplice to his crime."

"Don't worry," Ash cried out as he was being dragged away by the police. "You look after Pikachu! I'm sure we'll get to work together on another case...until next time!"

"Until next time..." May repeated. She was so confused, that she hurt herself in her own confusion. She banged her head against a post. "This is turning out to be a brilliant holiday," May muttered sarcastically.

"Looks like you've got to defend Ash again," Trucy stated as she had her eyes set on the the police cars.

"PIKA!" Pikachu roared as he rolled on the floor, reduced to tears.

May crouched down and cradled Pikachu in her arms. "It's alright Pikachu!" Pikachu stopped howling as soon as May pressed his head against her chest. "We got Ash out before, but we can do it again. I mean look at how many times Aunt Maya's been arrested for a crime she didn't commit?"

"I get the feeling that Ash is the next Maya," Trucy admitted.

"What do you think Ash means when he said, Until next time?" May asked Trucy.

Trucy shrugged her shoulders. "No idea. Maybe he knew that he was going to get arrested the moment he saw the poster."

"The full poster must be around somewhere," May said. "Somebody must have it on their computer somewhere. Maybe we can find the original poster around here."

"Highly unlikely," Trucy told May. "But it's worth a try."

I decided to convert the chapters of May's Justice In Alola into new chapters of May's Justice because I feel that both fics would be stronger together.
