Chapter Twenty-Two: The Cancelled Medieval Festival

May and Trucy entered the police station to try and get as much information as possible about the events that were taking place before the explosion took place. It only took them two seconds to find Detective Looker talking to one of the ladies behind the counter. May bit her lip and marched over towards him. Detective Looker quickly glanced at May and then casually strolled over to talk to her.

"It you two again," he groaned. Scratching his chin as his eyelids closed. "What do you girls want?"

"We want to know what happened?" Trucy demanded.

"I can't tell you."

May grabbed his collar and yelled, "YES YOU CAN! AS MEWTWO AND ASH KETCHUM'S LAWYER AND GIRLFRIEND I HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED!"

"May!" Trucy clutched onto May's waist and pulled her away from Detective Looker. "You're going to end up getting arrested too, if you don't control your emotions."

"Relax!" Detective Looker murmured. "Ash is being released without charge."

May gasped in delight. "Oh he has?"

"We found the original copy of the poster," Detective Looker explained as he presented the poster of a tall man with blonde hair and a red coat. "As you can see, it's actually Vash The Stampede and not Ash The Stampede."

"And the guy looks nothing like Ash," Trucy noted.

"Alright!" May raised her fist in the air. "So there's no way that Ash is guilty. Now we need to prove Mewtwo's innocence."

"It was my bad," Detective Looker explained as he lowered his head. "I just assumed since he'd been released from jail for killing his mother that he might have gone out and committed another crime?"

"Oh boy," Trucy muttered. There was nothing she could do now that May's rage was building up. May's shoulders were clenched in as her fists shook violently. "May!" Trucy intervened as she stepped in between Looker and May. "I think I should handle this."

"Is...something the matter?" Looker gulped as May's piercing red eyes glared at his soul.

"The thing is Ash Ketchum was innocent the whole time," Trucy explained. "His friend Iris tried to frame his other friend, Serena for the crime but Ash confessed to the crime instead. And May was the one that gave both Ash and Serena an acquittal. Did you not hear about it? It was pretty big news."

"I don't really pay attention to the news," Looker admitted. "I don't trust everything they say. After Miss Haruno's trial I went to America to investigate an international smuggling incident."

"Oh you never knew about Ash being innocent?" Trucy asked.

Looker shook his head.

"Well that clears everything up." Trucy smiled. May was astonished. She couldn't believe how positive Trucy was in spite of everything she had been through and what has happened. If May was on her own, the situation would have been a lot more worse for her. She would have been arrested as well and left to fend for herself. Ash and Mewtwo would have had nobody to defend them. Trucy looked over to May. "Have you calmed down now?"

May nodded. "I think. Anyway are you happy to discuss the case with me now?"

"I guess," Detective Looker sighed. "Let's go somewhere a bit more private." He escorted the women into a tiny office with piles of paperwork lined up in a row. "What do you know about the medieval festival in Alola?"

"Medieval festival?" May asked.

"It takes place in the Festival Plaza," Looker explained to the girls as waltz to his coffee machine. "It's been there for years. People from all over the world come to The Festival Plaza, they dress up as medieval folk and do medieval things."

"When was the festival about to start?"

"Today," Looker said. "But it's been delayed."

"Why has it been delayed?" May asked.

"Because of the explosion in Hau'oli City," Looker announced as he jumped on his sit and gulped down his drink. "It was devastating. Nothing left of the place. Miraculously, there's no fatalities at all."

"Has there been any reported injuries?" May asked.

Looker shook his head. "Nope. None at all. Everybody survived: unharmed."

"Why do you suspect Mewtwo?" May asked. "Surely there's some other psychic types that could have been responsible?"

Looker tilted his head. His eyes glared at May. "Such as..."

"Um..." May stammered. She didn't know any of the native legionaries in Alola.

"Tapu Koko?" Trucy asked. "That's the guardian deity of Melemele Island, right?"

"Tapu Koko isn't a psychic type." Looker shook his head. "Even the Queen of Nova knows that!"

"Queen of Nova?" May felt defeated. Ash had been out of prison for less than a month, and all that May wanted to do since his release, was to make him happy. She didn't care about the lost holiday anymore. Anybody who was a a friend of Ash, was a friend to her too. "Detective Looker!" May cried out. "Who is this Queen of Nova? Do you mean Unova?"

Detective Looker shook his head. "Nova is twice the size of Unova, and it's empire is expanding." He slipped out a picture of a young girl in a a magnificent scarlet dress. She was dripping in pearls. "This is Queen Elodie. She's a very unpredictable lady."

"Does she have any control over Alola?" May asked. The girl looked around the same age as her. What am I doing wrong, May asked herself.

"Nova is an hour by boat," Looker explained. "Her Majesty now considers Alola part of her empire, especially since since her new stepmother is from here."

"Sounds very interesting," May said. "But what does Queen Elodie of Nova have to do with the explosion?"

Trucy spoke up. "Wait, isn't Queen Elodie a lumen?"

May gasped. "A lumen? What are they?"May took her phone out of her pocket and typed vigorously. Waiting for the answer from google only took a few seconds. "The SI unit of luminous flax. May squinted. "Equal to the amount of light emitted per...okay. Now I'm confused."

"That's not the sort of Lumen I'm thinking of," Trucy explained. "I'm thinking of the magic lumen."

"I should have known."

"Lumens is another term for witched and wizards," Looker snapped. "Damn, I've got a migraine. They're people that can use magic at their own free will."

May slowly steered her head towards Trucy. "Does that make you one?"

"I don't think so," Trucy admitted. "Lumens need their own special crystal. I don't need a crystal for my magic."

Looker gulped. "You both better be careful. I have a feeling she's up to no good."

"So it's possible that Queen Elodie is responsible?" May asked.

Looker tried to hush May quickly with the palm of his hand over her mouth. He hushed her. "Don't let anybody catch you hearing that stuff," he whispered. "Sjhe's have you executed just for talking about her behind her back."

"Where is she now?"

"She often hangs round with her stepsister, Lilie."

"So I take it she's fond of Alola" Trucy asked.

"I guess..."

"There's one thing that I don't understand," May admitted. "If you find Queen Elodie so suspicious, why did you arrest Mewtwo instead of her?"

Dectective Looker's voice suddenly began to strain. "Because the evidence leads to Mewtwo."

"What evidence?" May asked. She was made to believe that there were many witness accounts and evidence against Mewtwo, but she was yet to see anything that would link to Mewtwo's guilt other than speculation and fear. Speculation meant nothing in a court of law.

Looker said nothing. May could sense that he was hiding something. She was determined to shake it out of him. he held her hand by her heart and suddenly the room became pitch black. She may not have been a witch or have a lot of magic powers, but she knew that she had to make the best of the abilities that Mia Fey had passed on to her. She knew that was going on: Detective Looker had three psyche locks in front of him. The chains were as cold and tense as ever.

"Please leave," Looker demanded.

May shook her head. "I know you're hiding something."

"Because it's nothing to do with you."

"I'm Mewtwo's lawyer: IT HAS EVERYTHING TO DO WITH ME!"

"There are certain things I can't discuss with you/"

"I understand," May said. "However, this evidence that is meant to prove Mewtwo's guilt; I would like to see it."

"No!" Looker stepped back.

"Normally a detective would be happy to show evidence to prove their points, so why not now?"

"I am not saying a thing."

"You don't need to say anything. "May kept her eye on the middle lock. I think the reason why you won't share it with is because... Detective Looker, you have no evidence against Mewtwo."

The middle lock broke and vanished into thin air.

May held out the wanted poster of Vash the Stampede. He looked like somebody from a manga. "You were asked to habd these out on the orders of Queen Elodie weren't you? That you would explain your fear towards her and why you got Mewtwo arrested."

"What!"

"And Vash the Stampede is a very popular character," May said with a grin on her face. "I didn't recognise him at first, but now I remember seeing him on TV when I was a kid. Looker, if you're going to accuse somebody of being a wanted man, you could at least make sure that the person was real."

"Of course Vash the Stampede is real!" Looker barked.

May shook her head. "No! He's a fictional character from that anime from the nineties. Let me think what the name was..."

"Trigun!" Trucy cried out. "He was created by Yasuhiro Nightow. A simple google search would tell you that/"

"Right girls," Looker sighed. "You got me."

Both locks vanished and the room returned to normal.

"Sounds like the explosion was all one big publicity stunt," Trucy commented as she had her hands on her hips, scowling Looker.

"You know the truth don't you, Detective Looker?" May asked.

The man threw his hands in the air. "I was only following orders from Queen Elodie."

May gritted her teeth and banged her hands against the table. Her eyes clenched shut as she growled, "THAT DOESN'T EXPLAIN WHY YOU ARRESTED ASH."

"I already told you why she was arrested!"

"I bet she ordered Ash's arrest" May snapped. "I bet she ordered all of Mewtwo's friends to be arrested."

Trucy pulled May away from Detective Looker and barged her way in front of May. "Why would Queen Elodie hate Mewtwo so much?" Trucy asked. "And where was Tapu Koko? Isn't it meant to be the guardian of this island?"

"You'll find out in the trial tomorrow."

"Tomorrow?" May shrieked. "Oh great, less time to prepare..."

"Queen Elodie wants the trial to happen as soon as possible," Looker announced. "Once the trial is over, she will start the medieval festival."

"But she's the reason why the medieval festival got cancelled!"

"Queens do as queens please," Detective Looker announced. "You two better get going. If you find anything, give me call. To be honest, I doubt that there's anything you can do. Queen Elodie has already planned everything out."

"I'm not going to give up so easily," May hissed. "I'm gonna clear Mewtwo's name for him and for Ash. Just how I cleared Sakura, Yuki, Kari, Ash, Serena and Aunt Maya! You watch me!"
