They spent the dwindling afternoon, and much of the evening, talking late into the night about particularities of kitsune traditions. For a common human she was well-educated, and for a priestess she was tremendously fair…but for anyone else, she was woefully lacking. Youko prided himself on knowledge, so he imparted upon her the basics.

"Do all kitsunes sleep together?"

"Traditionally. Some kitsunes do not live in large clans, and others tend to remain wanderers, but kits are always coddled by their parents until they decide to find their own way."

Something glimmered in her gaze –– a memory, perhaps. "What else do kits get growing up?"

He knew from her story this was the crux of the matter…but also knew that now was not the time to push. "Affection. Amusement. Advisement."

"Do they need a teacher?"

He shook his head slowly, trying to parse out the particulars. "A mentor."

AN: While I wrote the next...twenty? uhm, twenty chapters, with the intention of not uploading them more than once a day (or, more clearly, uploading them once a day), I can't even help myself.
