Yes yes it's short, sorry
Mitchie's POV
Today hadn't gone as planned, but in the end, the outcome was better than expected. I couldn't believe that Alex felt the same way. At first I was worried I had misinterperated the song but then she confirmed she meant what I had originally hoped she meant. We ended up playing quite a few more songs and rocking the stage as requested by the audience, but even though we had such a great time, thoughts of Dallas wouldn't leave my mind. Half of me wanted to run after her and the other half wanted to ignore her existance completely. I mean, what I did was a bit harsh and I want to apologize, but I wouldn't know where to find her.
By nine Alex had passed out and was dead asleep having been worn out from the day. Normally she didn't go to bed till 11 to 1, so it's pretty obvious how tired she was. Her being asleep made things easier. She didn't know I had a job and I didn't want her to . She'd tell me I'm over working myself and that it's not necessary, but I think it it. Her parents don't know I'm living here courtesy of Alex, or the fact that I'm dating their daughter. Who knows how they'll react when they find out either one? It would be pretty messed up if her lesbian moms were homophobic towards their own daughter.
I thought about this as I got ready for work. I put on my Rusty's uniform and put my hair up in a high ponytail. Rusty's was a really old-fashioned restaurant. The uniform consisted of a pink button up blouse, a black skirt, and skates and when we couldn't wear skates, (Like me at the moment) we had to wear white tennis shoes. All topped off with a black cap with Rusty's logo on it.
I quietly exited the room leaving Alex sound asleep, and sneeked down the hall (A/N My english teacher told me 'snuck' is not a word).
I slowly made my way down the stairs and was releived to find the lights out. Selena and Demi probably went to bed already. I made my way to the door when a voice made me stop dead in my tracks.
"Mitchie? Where do you think you're going at this hour?" I turned around slowly and was met with Selena's stern stare. Her and Demi were on the couch and by the looks of their hair I'd say they just finished making out.
"Ew!" I exclaimed " Is this what you do every night with your daughter right upstairs!?" I asked slightly disturbed.
"Don't change the subject. Where are you sneaking off to... And what are you wearing?" Demi asked.
"Erm, I was heading home because.. My dad texted me, saying I need to come home and .. These cothes are just so comfy" I replied lamely. They each arched their eyebrow not buying my story.
"Okay, okay" I sighed in defeat as I sat on the seat facing them. "I work graveyard at Rusty's" I admitted then signaled to my hat to show the logo.
"What!? Mitchie, you're sixteen! You can't work a full shift, it's illegal! And graveyard nonetheless! Who the hell hired you!?" Selena demanded.
"Erm, I might have faked an ID and my boss thinks I'm 18." I said bracing myself.
"What!?" Selena exploded. " Michelle Devonne Torres do you realize how much trouble you can get into? theres no doubt you'll be fined and it's very likely that you could get thrown in jail for this. Faking an ID? Are you serious!?"
"Selena, honey calm down" Demi said softly and wrapped her arm around her shoulder.
"I'm sure Mitchie has a reasonable explanation for all this." Selena nodded before they both turned to me.
"I do, but um I'm gonna be late and I can't have that so bye!" I said quickly unlocking the front door and stepping out.
"Hold it!" Demi said getting of the couch. She went into the kitchen and came out holding her keys. "I'll drive you" She said.
"What!? Demi!" Selena exclaimed.
"Selena" She told her wife soothingly. She went over to her. "Do you really want her walking at this time?" She asked quietly. They spoke in hushed tones so that I couldn't make out what they were saying. Demi gave her wife a kiss before following me out the door. We got into her truck and she pulle out of the driveway.
We spend the first couple of minutes in silence before Demi spoke.
"She's only mad because she cares" She told me referring to Selena.
"I know" was all I said.
"Mitchie, you know we love you like your our own. We're here if you need us no matter what. You can talk to us"
"I know" Was all I could come up with. I didn't really want to tell her the truth, but she was bound to find out sometime.
"You're a smart girl, very smart, so I know you're only doing this because you have to. I just wish you'd tell us why. I know we're not your parents-" But I cut her off.
"You're right. You're not" I snapped and I could see the hurt on her face. I wasn't mad at her, I was mad at my own family, so I continued. "And thank God you're not, you, Selena and Alex mean the world to me, I'm so grateful to have you guys in my life and I'm thankful that you aren't anything like my parents." I told her honestly. I saw the hurt expression fade away as she gave a small smile. I sighed knowing what I had to do next.
"I'm working because I need the money. 4 months ago" I took a breath. "I came home to find the house empty. The only thing left was what was in my room. They left and so I got a job, started getting money and supporting myself on my own. Please, I didn't tell anyone because I didn't want to be taken away. I don't want to end up in some foster home, please don't tell anyone. I swear I'm doing fine, I promise" I finished the last part in a rushed pleading tone. Luckily we were at a red light because she turned towards me in shock.
"What?" She asked quietly astonished.
"Um, a couple weeks ago, a woman named Dallas came claiming to be my long lost older sister, and theres so much evidence to prove it. She spent 3 months looking for me and now that she's found me-" I took another much needed breath. "I'm worried she's going to want me to live with her in Texas where she just came from. I haven't let her know that I think she IS my sister, but she's been persistant and I think Alex has been helping her, but I'm just scared and don't know what to do. Today, the first performance I directed towards her and she walked out in the middle of it and now I feel horrible, and I can't apologize, because I don't even know how to get ahold of her or if-" I was crying by now and Demi reached over and pulled me into a hug stopping my rambling.
"Mitchie, it's okay. Look, if she's really your sister, she wouldn't just leave, I'm sure you'll see her again. And we'd never let you be taken away. You know you're always welcome in our home, trust me, if you don't want to, then you're not going anywhere. Now, I want you to go into work, do your best and then hand in your resingation. Selena's right, you're only sixteen, you shouldn't be working long shifts, especially when theres no need. We have plenty of money." Demi told me and I nodded. Much to the angry driver's behind us who had been blaring their horns, relief, we continued onto the restuarant.
