"Something you mentioned earlier…" he said. "Your display of power—you told me that you could send that burst of energy only because you were not feeling threatened."
"Oh! In the forest!" He nodded. "Right," she said, "I'm not sure how exactly…only that there's something different about how I focus my uh, energy, when I'm stressed out."
"Reiki," he corrected, as Kuronue said, "So you do know something about your powers!"
"Not much. Just that it follows what I'm feeling. I can be fairly, well…emotional."
And that it's been heavily influenced by a dormant jewel that's been in me for fifteen years, she added silently, but I can't tell you guys that…yet.
"Then it stands to reason that if you are being cautious around, your powers are following suit." Youko said.
It hadn't occurred to her before…though it did go with what Miroku kept telling her. She may not be able to control the jewel, but it respond well enough to her underlying emotions and intentions. What a pain…
"I guess that could be true," she said hesitantly.
Kuronue canted his head. "How vexing that sounds."
Her responding laugh was strangled, as he had hit upon an uncomfortably sore spot. "You have no idea."
