Kuronue declared midday to be the end of Youko's foolishness, and settled behind Kagome with a soft flutter and a silent huff. It was not that she hadn't noticed his wings earlier, but curiosity finally reigned supreme, and she took a risk.
"If it's not too rude…what sort of youkai are you Kuronue?"
It was a testament to how weird the last few days had been that when he took her hair in his hands and began combing through the –– embarrassingly many –– tangles, Kagome barely quirked an eyebrow.
"She's polite." He said instead, a comment aimed at Youko, who sat in front of her. They'd spent the morning sifting through some particularities of her powers, from the instances she'd been at her strongest, to the embarrassing tales of her failures.
"Knowledgeable for a human." The kitsune agreed.
Kagome sulked. "And right here."
Thankfully, Kuronue only laughed. "I'm a bat-youkai."
She looked at him carefully from over her shoulder, tugging a few strands of hair loose from his grasp. When he didn't push her to expand on her question, she decided to keep quiet ––while the debacle with Shiori and her clan had proven to be for the best, she did not feel like stirring up any more emotionally-charged memories.

AN: I've been busy with work these last few days, and exams before that, but this week is Reading Week! (essentially this is a week of de-stressing/catching-up-on-readings-and-projects that my university gives us the third week of February) All this means is that if you want to send me prompts or little prods to do more mass-updates, now would be the perfect time ;)
