"Youko?"

He grumbled.

"Youko, what happens to non-purebloods? The ones who come from two separate clans?"

He turned over, his eyes pressed firmly shut, though his small grunt told her he'd heard. She took note of the scant distance between them and shuffled forward a little more, entreating to push her question.

"I mean," she pressed, nosing her face closer to his so that he may hear her better, "it could happen, right? Kitsunes who come from separate clans…there are hanyous out there, so surely there are different breeds who get together."

"It happens." His voice was raspy with sleep, sending a shiver up her spine. "Though it's certainly…troublesome."

"Why?"

With a heavy sigh two golden eyes slowly blinked open. "The kit will have to choose a family. A parent may become ostracized from their own clan depending on that choice."

"Oh." she said softly. "But…why?"

"You are quite the troublesome kit, little priestess," he huffed instead, looping an arm around her waist and pulling her over, his chest pressed tight to her back. "You will get scolded for bothering your alpha so."

"My what now—"

"Hush," he said, burying his face in the junction of her neck, "We shall discuss it in the morning."
