Disclaimer: Fairy Tail does not and sadly will never belong to me but this plot does! I'll sue you if you attempt to steal it haha ^w^ *LOL*
(A/N: This is a teaser! As in a short prologue to the next chapter…)
Previously on D2L: "So…you loved him?" Gray finally asked, setting a tense atmosphere. It was, after all, a question that bothered him a lot.
"I thought I did…" Until I met you, she completed in her mind.
"So…you're just not ready for commitments" Gray thought aloud.
"I…I don't know…I...Gray, I…" She began. Why wasn't it coming out! Why was she able to say it already! She had said countless times to herself, why couldn't she say it when it would matter most?!
"It's okay Luce…don't push yourself too hard." He said to her soothingly as he took off his jacket and put it over her shoulders, "Let's go inside, it's getting chilly"
"It's getting late…do you want me to drive you home or…you wanna stay?" He asked, looking at his watch. She looked at him, blushing a bit.
"I'll take that as a stay…" He chuckled, "You can change into any of Ultear's PJs… they're in her room, you know where. I'll just get changed too" He said.
(The special addition in the previous chapter has been repeated here so if you've already read it, please skip ahead)

Lucy brushed her hair using a brush she had found in Ultear's room. Though it was supposed to be more of a guest room, Ultear had really stocked up supplies here!
'She must be coming here often' Lucy thought. Ultear seemed to have a particular attachment to Gray, more than to Lyon. Lucy thought. But then again, wasn't Lyon always busy or something? Hmm…she better not get into solving the Fullbuster-Milkovich-Bastia family mysteries…
Lucy changed into one of Ultear's black PJs which were the first one's she had seen. They were decorated with patterns of a skull. Lucy walked out of the room to find that Gray had already changed into his a long time ago. In his hands was none other than the plush he had won her not too long ago.
"So…what you gonna name it?" He asked, raising an eyebrow as he held it away from himself, undoubtedly finding it as strange as ever. Or was it that he hated the fact that he was ever compared to it?
"Plue" Lucy said, smiling.
"Weird creature weird name policy?" Gray smirked and Lucy threw one of the sofa cushions at him which he easily blocked, chuckling. She harrumphed and began stomping off when she felt herself get pulled back…She felt her back against Gray in an instant. She could feel the heat on her cheeks already… His hands were holding both her wrists, strongly but softly… She noticed, she was just about his shoulder's height. He was just the right height for her, she thought, her blush aggravating. But most of all, the most distracting thing was…his scent… the Gray feeling, he thought.
She felt a tickle in her ear, Gray was leaning in close to her and his deep voice sounded in her ears, soft and swift in a whisper, "You know…I like girls dressed in black" Lucy gasped softly…In just that moment, Lucy's heart was in her mouth! Her pulse rate unimaginable!
Gray slowly backed away, leaving the blonde in a bit of a shock.
"Seems like someone's having a Kodak moment" He teased, snapping Lucy back to Earth-land.
"So…what do you feel like doing?" He asked, lounging comfortably on his sofa, "It's just 10pm"
"You're not afraid of Erza I take it." Lucy laughed as she took a seat beside him and Gray didn't fail to notice how she closed in the distance between them in a moment.
"I wouldn't put it as 'afraid'. We've been together too long for me to be 'afraid' of her. But yeah, when she's mad, it's best to just play it her way." He said, in a laid back manner.
"You two are really close huh…?" Lucy said, casually, well at least she was trying to be casual about it.
"Yeah…we are. Not just the two of us –"
"You and Cana too, You and Mira too" Lucy complete for him. Gray at first was at a loss for words but settled in with a smirk.
"Not exactly what I wanted to say but…I guess even that works." He replied.
"How is it that you're close mainly to GIRLS?" Lucy asked, suddenly glaring at him.
'Sheesh…' he thought. Where had the laid back and supposedly casual atmosphere disappeared to?
"You're not…jealous are you?" He raised an eyebrow, smirking again. Lucy's face turned upside down and her rage was covered up with her enormous blush.
"N-no I'm NOT" She quickly denied.
"You know what they say about the quickest denials…" Gray teased and Lucy slammed a cushion on his head.
"Hey! That's my cushion!" Gray joked.
"And what of it?" Lucy challenged.
"You really don't wanna go there do you?" Gray raised an eyebrow.
"Being all dangerous are we?" Lucy raised an eyebrow back at him and the next thing they knew…they were already caught up in a pillow fight…
(END OF SPECIAL ADDITION!)
"I AM the captain of the football club…" Gray reminded smiling evilly and Lucy laughed as she ran around the dining table, panting as she did, barely dodging a pillow that flew from the other end!
"Sure but I'm pretty fast myself" Lucy giggled and panted as she ran, dodging pillow attacks coming behind her.
"You sure?" He finally asked jokingly and next thing Lucy knew she was just about to come in contact with the side of the sofa when she felt Gray's arms snake around her waist but unfortunately it only helped to pull him in for the fall too...and so they both tumbled onto the sofa and from there, onto the ground.
Lucy got her breathing back to normal but blushed when she noticed how close they were, with Gray right on top of her…
"Gotcha!" Gray winked as he got off her and stood up before holding a hand out to her. Lucy stared at the hand before her. Lucy hesitantly, slowly reached out to it… she felt the current again as their fingers made contact and slowly her hand slipped into his, his warmth enveloping hers; his hand slowly closed in on hers and she could hear her own heart beat beating loud… very loud…
"RING~! RING~!" Lucy's phone rang all of a sudden and their hands quickly parted…Lucy felt a pang of longing…she wanted to hold his hand for longer…she wanted to feel his warmth for longer…
"It's your dad…it's probably personal so I'll better give you some room" Gray said, handing Lucy her cell phone and walking into his own room. Lucy looked at the screen…
'Father' it read. She didn't want to answer it… Why was he calling at this time anyway? Wasn't it past her curfew? She didn't want to argue with him again... He just wanted to say the same thing as usual. Should she answer? She could easily avoid it, she thought, by pretending she was asleep or something. But then she would have to answer his call the next day either way… She sighed before swiping 'answer' on her touch-screen.
"Hello father" She answered, trying to sound as though she had just been disturbed from her sleep.
"Lucy. Your train is due for the 16th." He simply said.
"Father, I have said this before and I'll say it again – I am NOT coming back to Hargeon and most of all, I am NOT leaving Fairy High." She replied.
"You've been arguing over this with me for a week now. Don't tell me this is about a boy AGAIN?" He said angrily. Lucy flinched a bit at the threatening tone. But it WAS after all a phone conversation. She could handle this… she thought.
"So what if it is?" She said, trying to sound equally angry. But was a bit shocked at her own response. Was it about a boy? She wondered… There was after all only one guy…Gray… was it because of him?
"I thought you'd had some sense knocked into you the last time! Lucy, you're coming back here on the 16th and that's final!" Jude said, his tone higher than before.
"No father. I am staying here at Fairy High and THAT is final" she said. She felt herself do the victory dance on the inside. 'Well done Lucy…just keep it up with the stubbornness. He won't be able to argue for long…' she convinced herself.
"Lucy this has happened before too hasn't it? And what did you get last time? You're just being foolish." He said sounding annoyed.
"This time it's different" She said sounding confident though she wasn't sure if she really was…
"Fine then. You just watch…you'll come crying home on the 16th of your own will" He finally stated before closing the line. Lucy wondered… what if it did happen the way her father said? No…she thought. It wouldn't…
She couldn't afford to leave Fairy High now, she thought. She was way too deeply attached to it now and more than that, staying away from Gray was...just too hard to even think about.
"You done?" Gray asked, walking out of the room.
"You heard?" She asked, rubbing her feet together nervously. He shook his head.
"No…I told you I'd give you some room right?" He said, walking out of his room and towards her.
"You better sleep now." He said, "You don't look like you slept too well the last time…all that you happened to drink that night" Lucy blushed a bit. Shit, she thought. He was going to bring it up again, she said inwardly.
But he didn't… He simply ruffled her golden locks affectionately and walked back into his room.
'You don't have to tell me now…' she recalled him telling her. He really was giving her the space she needed…but did she really want that space now? Wasn't it enough? She was already convinced that she loved him more than anyone ever before…she was convinced that she could trust him more than even herself… what more did she need to convince her that things wouldn't be like they were last time?
She wanted to give them a chance… she wanted to give 'Gray x Lucy' a chance…even though she had promised herself to never fall for another guy or date another guy ever again… She just needed to test him, she thought. She needed to convince the fragile girl with the broken heart, inside of her, that this time she wouldn't be hurt… and to do that, she just needed to test him, though she herself knew there was no need for that. There was no way Gray would hurt her but she needed to get rid of that little hesitation in her… she wanted to be able to confess to him the next time without any hesitation and to do that, she needed to clear away the uncertainty that still laid hidden within her…
