Dreams
"Where is mommy and daddy…? Can they come here?"
"No, Avatar Korra. Your parents cannot come here. It's too far away for them to come visit so often, and you need to be protected."
"But I need mommy, I need daddy…! Why can't they come…? I'm scared of the dark."
"Mommy…? Daddy? I can't sleep."
Korra blinked as she rubbed her eyes. She could hear Tarrlok was waking up, too. "What's wrong, Kenai, did you have another bad dream?"
Their son nodded.
She lifted the blanket up.
Tarrlok asked. "What was your nightmare about?"
"The dark spirits were around me..." Kenai snuggled up in between his parents. "And you and mommy weren't there at all."
"Oh, honey, you know that we'd never leave you behind..." Korra held her son in her arms.
Soon, Kenai was sound asleep.
Korra smiled. This was the safest place in the world for him. She was the Avatar. She had more than enough power to protect her family, and Tarrlok was a skilled water bender. A skill which Tarrlok hoped their son inherited from him.
She looked up at her husband. She saw his smile through the dark.
He whispered, "you're doing great."
She smiled and mouthed, "thanks, you are, too."
With the two men in her life, she knew she'd always be safe from the nightmares.
