Gomen nasai minna, this is NOT the Valentines prom
(A/N: I'm back (Ooh I'm 9 days early!?) as promised with chapter 24 which I must apologize is not what I had promised it would be… For all my amazingly, awesome and very sweet readers who were so concerned about my exams – thanks a lot for all the 'good luck' wishes and as it always does, my exams went pretty well. For now, let's get our eyes glued to the screen!)
Previously on D2L: … How could she leave now when her story with Gray had only just begun? She didn't want to be away from him now…there was no way she was leaving and she was sure. Even if her father still believed she'd finally end up coming back anyway, she'd prove him wrong. She'd prove to him that this time she was right…this time there was no mistake…this time, she had chosen the right guy.

Lucy got home in a very fatigued state. It was no surprise since she didn't have a single free period throughout the entire day and to add to it all, she'd been way too slow with all her work! Busy in her dreamland, she spent most of the time either smiling or just reminiscing memories of all the times she had spent with Gray. Since when was she the fan girl type? She asked herself.
'Oh…right…since I met Gray Fullbuster' she chuckled as she thought. She was very excited, as excited as she had never been before! It was like she was going entirely hyper over it all…come to think of it, she had always been like that before…to be more precise, she had gone back to her old, hyperactive, cheerful self… it was pretty overwhelming for her at least – the guy she was 'head-over-heels' for, had asked her to prom and was actually returning her feelings! Something she had thought of as impossible only a few weeks ago, was now a dream-like reality!
But as it was, our little blonde wasn't alone with such thoughts. The day had proven to be just as important for other students of Fairy High, with confessions blossoming all over … However…yes, 'however' – after all, is there anything at all that doesn't have two sides? While confessions blossomed, negativity from rejections and floored expectations were inadvertently, unavoidable…The Fairy Tail gang was no different of course…
"You're going with Jellal to prom right?" Mirajane asked excitedly and the redhead blushed with embarrassment. She was always a bit more of a 'shy-type' when it came to such things…quite a contradiction to her usual well-composed self. But other than that, her eyes reflected a sort of uncertainty.
"I don't know…I mean, we're…dating and all so I guess we should be…but he hasn't directly asked me yet" Erza replied.
"Oh…" Mira echoed.
The issue had been bothering Erza for a long time…she had been waiting for when Jellal would ask her to prom but the awaited invitation just never seemed to come! At times she thought that perhaps he believed it was only natural for them to go together and decided that there was no need to ask. Other times was a bit controversial…she had a couple of fears that he may not be planning to even go with her at all. Even if the former were to be the case, she'd really wanted him to ask her as in 'ask' her! She wanted the type of romantic invitation that she got to see in all those romantic movies… was she expecting too much?
While confusion found shelter here, anxiety filled the space elsewhere…
"Levy will be going to prom with me of course!" Droy said authoritatively.
"No! Levy will go with me" Jet argued. As one would expect, the petite Levy was doing her best to calm the two down but truth be told, she wasn't very calm herself on the inside either! Finally, with her inside burning in annoyance like a blast furnace, she erupted (dudes…not literally! ^.^)
"Would you two SHUT UP?! Goodness!" Of course, with a reaction like that, the two disputants did well to keep shut, "here I'm going whoppers over why that idiot won't ask me yet and here these two idiots are arguing over me when neither has even asked me properly yet" she muttered to herself in annoyance, sighing in despair as she stomped away.
But even amidst all the negativity, lingered the shining light of excitement and joy…Definitely something our gang wouldn't miss out on entirely huh?
"Lisanna, you look very happy" Cana pointed out cheerfully
"Yeah! Natsu asked me to prom! And he was all romantic and all about it…" She said dreamily, "What about you? Who asked you?"
Cana smirked evilly, "I got my connections in some other schools y'know...I'm going with Hibiki Lates"
"Hibiki Lates?! As in that dashing playboy guy from Blue Pegasus?" Lisanna asked excitedly.
"Yeah, that's him alright" Cana replied.
"You're really one hell of a girl…you know…more than even Hibiki, you're very popular outside school with this innocent-girl-gone-badass reputation. You're like the 'playgirl' of Fairy High" Lisanna joked, "Speaking of prom…I wonder who Gray's taking this year"
Cana then began to smile as if enjoying a private joke, "Oh don't worry… Even Hibiki Lates is nothing compared to Fairy High's Gray Fullbuster…he must definitely have something in mind"
Lunch eventually approached and our gang gathered together, however, something was missing…
"Where're the guys?" Cana asked as she took her seat. None of Fairy High's male members were around and definitely, something was a bit fishy…
"Oh um, Jellal's busy with Macao sensei… something to do with this History field trip that sensei wants to conduct" Erza informed, "but I have no idea about the others"
"You guys look pretty depressed" Lucy noted as she noticed the gloomy aura surrounding Erza, Levy, Ultear and Meredy.
"Now that you point it out…" Lisanna echoed.
"What's wrong? You guys look like those girls that got rejected by Gray flat in the face" Cana joked, but little did she know that she had just mildly hit the bulls eye.
Levy supported her head with the palms of her hands, "Prom's tomorrow and the idiot hasn't even asked me yet"
"You mean Gajeel?" Lisanna asked.
"Who else?" Levy said in depressed tone.
"He never even came to school in the first place" Erza replied, "I just got the tardiness sheets today…he's been bunking a lot now" She muttered in annoyance. Levy sighed. Where her optimistic side was still yearning a ray of hope from the fact that school hadn't yet ended and that by the end of the day he would surely ask her, her hope just had to be crushed and moreover, so soon.
"What about you Erza? Jellal must have already asked you I'm sure…so have you picked out your outfit?" Lisanna asked as she took a sip from her orange juice.
"Um…not exactly…" She simply replied gloomily.
"'Not exactly' as in not yet picked your outfit?" Lisanna asked anxiously
"No…'not exactly' as in Jellal hasn't even asked her yet" Mirajane replied, reflecting concern. Everybody looked a bit shocked at that moment.
"Jellal?! As in the really, really nice guy Jellal? As in the best boyfriend material, responsible JELLAL? HE of all the guys hasn't yet asked his girlfriend to prom?!" Came Cana's overly enthusiastically shock-filled response. Erza looked at her with a raised brow.
"Is it that bad? I mean if we're dating and all…I guess it should be understood that we'd go together right? It's not as if he as to ask… right?" She asked hopefully.
"No, no Erza… Even though I'm new here…it's common knowledge that you HAVE to be asked to prom whether you're dating or not" Lucy informed her though even Lucy was a bit shocked as to how Jellal hadn't yet asked her to prom.
"If even our responsible Jellal-sama hasn't asked anyone to prom, I don't think we can really expect much from my little slacker, popular brother" Ultear sighed.
"Hm...It's actually sad how he wastes away all that charm when he can use it to get any girl he wants" Cana pondered a bit.
"But isn't the fact the he DOESN'T use his charm make him all the more charming?" Erza joked.
"So who do you think he'll take this year?" Meredy joined in the conversation, "I heard some girls on the corridor saying he'd already been taken or something"
"Really?!" Ultear exclaimed excitedly, smiling for the first time that day.
"I think I know who…" Cana smirked as she eyed Lucy playfully, who'd been feeling really awkward, trying her best to pretend that she was so very busy in just staring at her feet…Levy joined in too as they both bullied poor, flustered Lucy with the teasing glances.
"Hey there he is!" Mirajane said as she saw the raven head that'd been the reason for all the fuss at their table, "Gray! Over here!" She called out to him and he turned and began walking towards the table.
For a moment, Lucy caught eye contact with him and she could really hear the beating of her heart…She began to squirm uncomfortably in her seat, fidgeting here and there… Gray raised a brow at her and chuckled as they had a private conversation that had to do with absolutely no words but just an exchange of expressions.
"Where'd you go? And what about the other guys?" Erza asked.
"Um, we're not staying here for lunch break…a bit of extra football/soccer practice…I was just heading back" He replied as he stood behind Lucy with his arms around her shoulders. Lucy felt her insides totally SPLIT! She was as red as red could get! Of course the questioning and the 'you-two-hiding-something?' looks all the girls were giving them was not helping at all!
"So what's up?" He asked casually
"Oh um, we were just wondering who you were taking to prom…" Levy said.
Gray chuckled, "What's wrong Lev? You look down…"
Levy pouted, "Your idiotic friend hasn't even asked me to prom yet and he hasn't even come to school today!"
"Huh? But Gajeel's here… He's back at the gym" Gray replied with a frown
"How's that possible? He was marked as absent by all the teachers up till now in the attendance sheets" Erza questioned.
"He probably bunked all the classes up till now…he was looking a bit off today..." Gray said, "But you cheer up Lev… I'm sure he'll come around soon… If he doesn't, well…there are other guys. Even I would have volunteered to take you but I can sure give him a good beating right?" He said as he winked at her and Levy blushed slightly but nodded happily.
"Hey wait…so, you never really answered. Who are you taking?" Ultear asked anxiously.
"Why're you so interested in my love life Ultear-nee chan" He teased and Ultear pouted.
"That's off point Gray, are you telling us or not?" Erza asked.
"What, Luce never told you guys?" He asked, "I just asked her to prom this morning"
And everyone's heads shot to the blond who had been way too quiet. Gray then leaned in to her and whispered in her ears playfully, "Good luck Luce" before saying 'later' and walking away.
"Oh my God Lucy! I never knew you and Gray had something going on!" Ultear said excitedly though a part of her was whining.
"Oh come on, don't make her all shy now." Cana joked
"So you both are dating?" Lisanna asked.
"Um…not exactly…no, not yet" Lucy replied.
"Ooh, 'not yet' as in soon!" Ultear continued to tease.
And despite the teasing getting her all flustered, Lucy smiled and began giggling at Ultear's little playful comments and soon the others joined in too… Fairy High really felt like home – a 'true' home…
Erza walked towards the council office, a really depressing aura surrounding her. She had decided to occupy herself with as much work as she could, just to escape the nagging depression that was threatening to overcome her.
It had been one hour since she had been there; she had managed to finish a lot of work, so much that she may not have to even step in the office for a month! It was long past the end of school and with her head hung low, she stood up from her seat and walked out of her cabin. She hadn't seen Jellal all day and it was beginning to bother her a lot.
Just as she walked out of the office she spotted a sticky note stuck to the wall that was sticking out like a sore thumb. She pulled it out and read it,
'Ne…I really wanna ask you something'
It had an arrow pointed to the right with a smiley face. Curiosity got the best of her and she found herself going towards the stated direction only to find another note pointing upwards,
'Actually, I don't really know how to ask you…' It had said.
She climbed the flight of stairs and just as she got there, she found one more…and another…At a point, she was beginning to get a bit anxious and a bit impatient. Where the hell was this all leading to?! She found one more note, praying it was the last and found that it led her to the school's terrace (roof). She looked all around, "Anyone here?!" She called out but no reply came and as she looked around, there was no trace of anyone. Then, her eye caught on something she really hoped she wouldn't see again – ANOTHER sticky note…
'Don't be mad, this is the last one
What I wanna ask you is –'
She felt a pair of large hands cover her eyes from behind and a presence come closer to her and in her ear, a ticklish whisper sounded " – is… will you go to prom with me?" the deep, masculine, warm voice that she knew all too well. She felt a smile grace her lips and all her worries vanish. It was funny what a simple question could do to her. Well…it WAS the question she was waiting for after all.
She turned around to find her tattooed boyfriend but despite the joy insider her, what she did next was –
"OW! Erza…" Came Jellal's response to Erza stamping on his foot forcefully.
"You moron! Couldn't you ask me sooner?!" She scolded; after all, Erza was Erza huh?
But of course next, she draped her arms around him and hugged him tight. He smiled as he returned the embrace.
"So, is that a yes?" He chuckled as he asked,
"Of course it is! Baka" She replied. Well, I guess, her fairytale for that 'romantic' invitation did come true after all!
Lucy got home and the first thing she did was to slump herself on her bed and get a quick reality check. Was this all for real? Was her life finally becoming like she had once hoped it'd be? Was she finally getting the love she had once wished for despite having thought that love wasn't meant for her? Was it?
Was the one and only guy she really thought she loved, interested in her?
She hugged her pillow tight and out of the blue, she found herself laughing. Tomorrow, she thought… tomorrow was going to be her special day…

Lucy: that was tiring.
Erza: It feels like forever since I got a role. I'm quite satisfied. :3
Sting: Yeah, considering most of you guys will be fired by the next season *smirks*
Natsu: When did you get here?!
Erza: say that again! *scary aura*
Jellal: Speaking of season 2…wasn't today's chapter supposed to be about the Valentines prom?
Itami/SDQueen: Well…about that, I just wanted to put in a little teaser about how the couples got together and all.
Levy: In the end you only showed Gray x Lucy and Jellal x Erza *annoyed*
Gajeel: Why didn't you put me in it!
Natsu: Come to think of it, I wasn't there either!
Gray: You guys, calm down. Be grateful. Even if she'd have put you guys in it, you'll wouldn't really pull off a very nice romantic scene because – Gajeel, you're too rude and tsundere type that Itami would have a really hard time putting up a romantic scene for you; and Natsu, you're too dense so that a romantic scene with you would be like playing 'house house' with kindergarten children. She actually helped you'll save your reputation, which then again, you guys don't really have.
Natsu: WHAT'D YOU SAY DROOPY EYES!?
Gajeel: You wanna fight?!
Itami/SDQueen: Calm down you guys!
Lucy: Um, Itami-chan, then season 2 would begin from chapter 27?
Itami/SDQueen: Ah yes. Season 2 is postponed to chapter 27 (season 1 ends in chapter 26) while Valentines prom is postponed to chapter 25
*Natsu, Gray and Gajeel brawling in the background*
Itami/SDQueen: *sigh* what am I going to do about you guys?
Rogue: Oh don't worry about them. They won't be here much long after all…
Gray: Oi, I'm the main cast dude. Don't feel to snooty just 'cause you're making your debut in season 2
Itami/SDQueen: Um, you guys shouldn't give too much out about season 2 here you know…
Sting: Everyone still hates me
Itami/SDQueen: Oh come on Sting! The 'I wanna kill Sting' type of reviews have reduced!
Minerva: But the PMs still do come right? *giggle*
Jellal: Why's the entire Sabertooth guild here?
Yukino: We came to collect our scripts of course, since we're getting the main supporting roles in season 2
