A/N: Hey there guys! Welcome once again to D2L! But well, this is not exactly a full-fledged chapter – more of a preview or preparatory chapter for season 2. Just to give you a gist and a bit of a shock ;) that'll help get you on track with season 2 so you have an idea of what we have in store for you.
I won't say previously on D2L this time because we are now in a new season and a fresh season demands a fresh start!
Lucy had left behind every single thing she had once thought was hers forever. Clearly she was restless throughout the train ride which was about two hours and not to mention cold because just when the train was leaving, somehow her scarf had flown out the window – if that was even possible – leaving her completely unprotected.
She wanted to cry… she wanted to scream… but nothing would come out! She felt so – empty. Her emotions were in some sort of block. She knew that her heart was so fragile that heartbreaks could break her entirely, but despite knowing all this, she had wanted to take this risk. Why did this have to be how things always ended up for her?
-Hargeon, 7pm, Heartfilia Mansion-
Lucy remembered this place – it was the place that was officially her 'home'. The big white structure, the gigantic fountain at the center, the many expensive cars lined up, the security, footmen… it was all absurd but so real. THIS was her life. She had tried changing this thought a lot of times but – look where that got her. She had decided to accept it all the way it was. She wouldn't fight, she wouldn't argue. After being wrong so many times, a person does lose confidence in their decisions…
The handmaids were all thrilled to see her and immediately escorted her to her room. As she walked through the doors, she looked around – all the workers stood around her, welcoming her. But her father wasn't there. He was nowhere in sight.
'Probably in his study, doing what he always does.' She thought. She had known he wouldn't welcome her. He just wasn't the type of person.
She was told to see him in his office at sharp 8:, which meant she had exactly one and a half hour to get ready. It was principle rules to dress in formal, dressy, attire for meals except breakfast. It was tedious, but Lucy had given up on trying to reform these rules.
The moment she got to her room, she collapsed on her fluffy bed. Her room was the one place she really did feel was like home. It had all her memories – good and bad. But not just that, it also had the lingering feeling of her mother's presence. They used to spend a lot of time here when she was young. Her mother had left her so young that often she felt the image of her mother fading in her memory… with fear that she would one day forget how her mother looked worried her, so she had adorned one of her walls with pictures of her mom. It was very common for children to forget what their parents were like if they left them when they were young – Lucy didn't want it that way.
Her handmaids had already unpacked her stuff… Lucy opened her closet just to take a look. Checking all drawers for something that wasn't where it belonged. Her heart clenched when she opened the last drawer – it was there… Winky Dinks… Winky Dinks wasn't just a memory of Magnolia; it was a memory of Gray. It was the first ever gift he had given her. It was like a special token that bound their friendship that had formed before it turned into deep feelings… Thinking about it now, she wondered if even their friendship had been real or it had all been just part of a game.
A knock came at her door, it was Hilda – her personal maid but more than that, she was like an older sister.
"Come in Hilda" Lucy said plainly.
"Lucy-sama – " Hilda began.
" – Lucy" Lucy corrected.
"Yes, um sorry. Lucy, it's 8pm. It's about time you started getting ready. Your father doesn't like tardiness" Hilda said and Lucy simply nodded.
Hilda helped Lucy pick out an evening gown that looked expensive enough for her father to appreciate since he hated her wearing anything that wasn't branded, and styled her hair in a neat bun, leaving her bangs to frame her cheeks. After a slight amount of make-up, Lucy felt she was good to go.
She walked down the hallways, her high-heels' sound as they touched the ground echoing with every step. She knocked twice at the door of her father's study till she was asked to come in.
She remembered every inch of the room that had once been a horror house when she was still young and afraid of her father. It was always dark in there – the curtains were always drawn, keeping out the rays of the sun. She never liked the claustrophobic feeling she got in there, because whenever she was there, it always meant trouble. Her father was standing with his back to her, his hand on the top of his tall, office-desk chair.
"Lucy. Welcome home" He said in a plain tone that contradicted his statement, but Lucy had grown accustomed to that too, over the years.
"Do you have any idea why I have summoned you back to Hargeon?" He asked as he turned to face her.
"No, father" She simply replied, her head bent low, refusing to meet his eyes.
"You must know about the Heartfilia Corporation's desire to expand and get a better hold over its market in the railway sector. We want to get bigger, biggest in Fiore." He explained.
"How much bigger than this can we get Father? We are among the companies with the dominant shares of the market" Lucy replied.
"As a Heartfilia, you should be able to think big without limitation" He scolded, "For this purpose, we have received a really good deal to integrate with another company which is also big in the industry. That way we can expand our market and achieve some economies of scale."
"I presume you have no problem then. Clearly I am not needed in your business" Lucy replied.
"And that is where you are wrong. I'd like you to meet someone –" Her father said with a smile and the tall chair turned around to reveal a guy with spikey blond hair, fairly blue eyes and a sinister grin, "– your fiancé and the heir to Eucliffe & Cheney Ltd."
Lucy couldn't believe what she was seeing or what she was hearing but from what she was feeling, she knew – it was real.
"S-sting" She said in horror.
"Nice to meet you L-u-c-y" He said with a smirk, extending every syllable of her name as he said it.
