There hadn't been a lot of reasons for Kagome to understand Youko's motivations prior to the trial…she had only needed to know that he was unwilling to harm and obliged to return her. Beyond that she found it a little too, well, fussy to inquire about more. She had used the week only to see if he was suitable…and to make a note of his character. For at the end of the day her first commitment lay with the jewel and its safety.
To promise something for after its completion, well…she'd have to know more about what it was. Shippo had stressed to her the importance of sussing out the full terms of any contracts she planned to make…asking for anything less would be dishonourable to such teachings, not to mention she'd never hear the end of it.
Youko was leaning in towards her and Kagome held onto every ounce of self-control to not rock back. His eyes narrowed. Hers widened.
"Well?"
