Kagome shook her head. "I'm sorry, her what?"
Youko's face was carefully blank. "My mother likes rare things, and her tastes run from jewels to…people."
"People."
"Youkai. Human. Whatever strikes her fancy. The last time it happened to be a ghost, of sorts."
"A what?" She said again, feeling for all the world like the only one in the room without a clue. Er, forest.
"It's from across the continent, so I've been told."
She looked up at him in growing horror. "Wait, you don't want me to be a…a gift for your mother, do you?"
The tension was thankfully broken by Kuronue, who had, at some point, gotten up and moved far enough so as to be able to place a gentle hand on her shoulder. It was soothing, but only slightly.
Youko was slow to respond, but it was with honesty. "Absolutely not. I want her to want you…but not be able to have you."
