Chapter 12
"Well, well, well," another voice said, this one familiar. The group looked to the right to see Hodge walking towards Valentine.
"Hodge." Valentine said, a small smile on his face. "How have you been?"
"Fine, fine." He replied quickly. "After Armel threatened my daughter's life." He spat the last part. "I thought you got him out of the country?"
Valentine shook his head. "No. He decided to go after Clary and Jonathan instead."
"As well as Penryn."
Valentines eyes widened. "Is she alright?" He asked in concern. "And Daniel? Are they okay?"
"They're dead." Jace interrupted, catching Valentine's attention. "And so will Clary,Jonathan and Simon if we don't hurry."
"That's why I'm here." Valentine answered. "You said you know where they are?"
"Yes-"
"Well then let's go!" Valentine walked out the front doors of the Institute.
Security looking at Hodge and Jace for any instructions. Hodge simply shooed them off.
Jace turned to the rest of the group. "Let's go."
…
"Okay, we run out of air in about 2 hours so… I'm tapping into the explosives in the airbags to try and blow our way out of here." Clary said with a small smile, proud of her work.
Jonathan looked over at her. "Wait, what do you mean by 'blow'?"
Clary brought her hands into fists and flared her hands outward, fingers stretched out to emphasize that she meant 'explode'.
Jonathan stared at her. "And it'll work?"
"Only if we are just below 4 feet under." Simon interrupted from his seat, resting his ankle. "Any more than 4 feet and-"
"The concussion will turn our brains turn to mush and we die." Clary finished.
"Hold up, 'die'?!" Jonathan asked, wide eyed.
Clary turned to her brother, exasperated expression plastered on her face and brought a flat hand to her throat, palm down and dragged it across her neck. Letting her head droop to the side and tongue stick out. Jonathan looked at her, annoyed.
"Jon, do I have to explain everything to you?" she rolled her eyes and went back to fiddling with the wires.
"Jonathan, basically we are gonna use the explosives in the airbags to blow a hole to the surface, but if we're deeper than 4 feet under ground we're gonna die." Simon explained.
"So basically we're gonna die." Jonathan said, running a hand through his white hair.
"We can try and get out and use this little ray of hope to get out of here or you can crush it and we die here in this car." Clary said, frustrated. "I think you should trust me on this, Jonathan because unless someone manages to find us and dig us up in under 2 hours, this is litteraly all we've got!"
Simon looked back and forth between Clary and Jonathan, who were holding eachothers stare, and squished against the seat trying not to get pulled into this argument.
Jonathan broke his sisters vibrant green stare and sighed. "Sorry." he said. Clary became less rigid but kept her gaze on her brother. "It's just... if we did, if you die, I've let Dad down and Armel wins. If I lose you, if Dad loses you, we lose not just you but the last living piece we have of Mom! We can't die down here! We can't leave Dad alone and we can't lose each other again!" He's crying now. Hot tears are running down his face and welling up in Clary's eyes.
"You can't die! You die and it's game over do you understand!? You need to promise me that no matter what happens, no matter if I die down here or not, that you will survive this."
Clary had tears running down her face now. "Jon, I-I can't promise you this-"
"Promise me!" he yelled, gripping her shoulders. "If you can't promise me, promise Mom, promised Dad, that you will live!"
Clary shook her head down at the ground with her eyes screwed shut. "I can't promise something I don't know! I'm sorry, I can't!" she cried
Jonathan let go of her shoulders and leaned back against his seat, calming his breathing and stopping his tears.
"But," Clary said, sniffling slightly. "I will try. I can't promise you I will live but I-I will try."
Jonathan let a tear fall as he nodded, giving his sister a small smile. "Promise?"
"I promise."
I'm SOSOSOSOSOSOSOSOSOSSO SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sorry it's so short! Next chapter should be longer though! Stuffs gonna go down...
