A/N: Thanks for reading. Enjoy!
"Pregnant. We're having a baby." The two lines on the pregnancy test are all I can focus on at this very moment. Two lines that have already changed our lives.
"Usually being pregnant involves a baby.", Christian jokes. "You're looking pale. Let's go into the bedroom." He grabs my hands and pulls me out of the room and away from the two lines. "Sit down." I drop to the side of the bed and stare towards the bathroom as Christian sits down next to me. "How are you feeling? Maybe we should go to the hospital to get you checked out."
"No.", I murmur.
"I'll call my mom and ask her to come over." His gray eyes are consumed with worry while I slowly overcome my shock.
"I don't need your mom to come over. I'm fine. I'm just...a little...in shock. My period was late, and then I got a little dizzy yesterday while shopping with my mom."
"Dizzy? What the fuck Ana. Why didn't you tell me? Sawyer was with you and should also said something. I should fire his ass for this."
"You're not firing him for believing me when I told him it was because I had been on my feet for so long. We had been to several stores and some of them were a little warm. I honestly thought it was nothing."
"But it was something.", he sighs. "Why didn't you tell me you bought the test? I could have been in there with you."
"While I was peeing on the stick?", I giggle. "I truly thought it was going to be negative, and I also wasn't sure how you would react. Kids are something we both want, but I didn't see us having them until later. I must have slipped and forgot my pill one day."
"It's ok, but tell me you weren't letting what Elena said that day get to you. I would and could never resent our child." It's almost like he can see right through my worries. "Am I surprised? Yes. I agree with the timing not being what we had planned, but some of the best things are unplanned. I had no idea I would meet and fall in love you, and yet here we are planning a wedding and having a baby." He shifts on the bed and brings his hands to my stomach. "A tiny life created by us is growing in here." The emotions of the dinner and the positive test become overwhelming, unleashing a barrage of tears. "Baby, don't cry.", Christian begs with his own tears falling. "The three of us are going to have a wonderful life together." The three of us. It was only the two of us this morning, but there's now another life in the equation. Our baby. A smile splays across my face through the tears. "There's the smile that lights up every corner of my life."
"I'm sorry for being so emotional."
"There's no need to apologize. It's been a very eventful day. Dinner didn't go like I anticipated. I knew I needed to tell Elliot and Mia about my past. I just didn't know how they would react. Mia's never been as speechless as she was when I told them. Part of me was afraid they would hate me and never want to speak to me again."
"Not possible. Your brother and sister love you. They needed to hear what you had to say, but it doesn't change their love for you. Remember how worried you were about telling your parents?" We wipe away each other's tears as he nods. "If anything, I think tonight brought all of you closer."
"Your mom and Kate though..", he mutters. "Especially Kate."
"Kate's protective, sometimes a little too much. She's also more bark than bite."
"I guess we should get official confirmation from the doctor. Maybe you can get an appointment for tomorrow."
"I doubt it. Dr. Moore probably has the entire week filled. I more than likely won't be able to get an appointment until at least next week." Dr. Caroline Moore has been my OB/GYN for as long as I can remember. She's one of the best around who unfortunately is planning to move to Sacramento soon for her husband's work.
"Why don't I make a call to Dr. Greene. She works at the same hospital as my mom."
"How do you know her?", I ask. He breaks all eye contact with me. "Why won't you tell me?"
"Dr. Greene is the doctor who I hired to treat my subs." Once again I feel my emotions flaring. I get up from the bed and move to the opposite wall, away from him.
"You want me to see the same doctor who treated your subs? You do realize what she's going to think, right? She's going to assume I'm your sub."
"I'll set her straight and tell her you're my fiance."
"No. I'm not going to see her. I'll call Dr. Moore to see if she can recommend a good doctor, but I refuse to be seen by the same doctor as your submissives. The fact that you would even suggest that...
"I wasn't thinking. It's been a long and tiring day.", he murmurs. "I'm sorry."
"I'm tired too and just want to go to sleep."
"Good morning Ana. What would you like for breakfast this morning?", Gail asks while I sit down at the table. "An omelet?" She nods at the skillet she's using to prepare an omelet. Normally an omelet would be delicious, but the mention of it makes me feel nauseous.
"I think I'm going to have some oat meal." I glance at the chair where Christian usually sits, but it's empty. When I was on my way to the kitchen, I heard him on the phone in his study. "Has Christian already had breakfast?"
"Not yet. He asked me to have an omelet ready in fifteen minutes, and that was almost fifteen minutes ago." She turns and grins at him as he makes his way into the kitchen. "Fifteen minutes exactly."
"You're correct. Good morning baby." He kisses me and then looks at my stomach. "And baby.", he says so low only I can hear him. "How are you feeling?"
"Good. I heard you in your study. Where you already doing work this early in the morning?"
"I was on the phone with Ros who's leaving this morning for a week long vacation to Belize. It's the first vacation she's had in...well I think forever."
"I bet she's excited to have some time away from the office."
"On the contrary, she wasn't too keen on the idea initially. I was the one who suggested a vacation to her even though she said she didn't need one. She's been working her ass off for me and deserves some the time off."
"You're a good man Mr. Grey.", I say while being Gail places my oat meal and his omelet in front of us.
"I'm also going to be an even busier man with her gone, but I can handle it."
"There's no doubt you can." My words of encouragement break a smile on to his face. He turns his head and watches Gail leave the room, clearing his throat once his eyes are back on me.
"Since we're alone, I'd like to discuss the wedding. We haven't made any plans other than hiring Ethan for the photos, but I think we should set a date, preferably one that's soon. Do you agree?"
"Preferably a date that's soon. How soon?"
"I'd like to as soon as possible." I want to marry Christian more than anything, yet I wonder if him wanting a date as soon as possible is because of the baby.
"Might your answer be related to the baby? Are you hoping people will be under the assumption that I got pregnant after the wedding? The newspapers have been kind to us since the engagement was announced, but who knows what they'll say if they learn I'm pregnant on our wedding day."
"I don't give a fuck what the newspapers or anyone else thinks for that matter."
"Mr. Grey, I'm sorry for interrupting.", Taylor says from behind Christian. We were too occupied with our conversation that neither of us heard him come into the kitchen. "Ms. Steele, my apologies."
"It's fine.", I tell Taylor.
"Welch is on the phone."
"All right. Ana, I need to take this." Christian takes one more quick bite of his omelet and stands, kissing me before following Taylor out of the kitchen.
"I'll see you next week. Bye." As expected, Dr. Moore can't see me until next week. I start to stand but feel dizzy so I slide back down in my chair. Kate had been talking with Olivia about her assignment, but I now see she's on her way back to her desk.
"Ana, are you all right? You were getting up until you started wobbling."
"I wasn't wobbling.", I scoff. "I was going to get some water but decided to wait a while. I'm fine." Despite everything that went on last night, I believe Kate will be happy when she finds out about the baby, but Christian and I aren't telling anyone the news just yet.
"I've been wanting to talk to you last night." She sits down and rolls her chair to my desk.
"I'd rather not talk about it especially here."
"What I've got to say is going to quick. I've made mistakes in our friendship." One of those mistakes was her knowing about Bryce and Rachel before me but keeping it a secret. "I also have the tendency of sticking my nose where it may not belong. My methods may not be the best, but I have good intentions going in. Even though last night was interesting, I'm happy for you and Christian."
"I haven't always been the greatest friend either, but no friendship is perfect. It's a growing and learning process."
"Kate, I need to go over one more thing with you.", Olivia says while standing in her doorway.
"I'll be right there.", Kate tells her. Olivia nods as Kate gets up. "Best friends?"
"Forever.", I giggle. Once Kate goes to Olivia's office, my phone rings. Christian. "Hi."
"Hey. It seems my day isn't as busy as I had anticipated, and I'll be leaving the office early. How about I swing by and pick you up? Sawyer can follow behind in his vehicle."
"Ok. I called Dr. Moore's office, and I can't be seen until next week."
"Fine.", he says nonchalantly. "Next week it is then. How have you been feeling?"
"I was a little dizzy earlier but it's passed."
"If you start feeling unwell, have Sawyer take you to the hospital. All right?"
"Yes.", I answer.
"I'll see you this afternoon. I love you."
"And I love you."
"I wonder if many people showed up to Elena's memorial service.", I mutter after being picked up by Christian and Taylor.
"I'm sure those who attended only did so because they felt obligated.", Christian sighs, running his hand over mine. Looking out the window, I notice we're not heading in the direction of Escala.
"Where are we going?" I catch Taylor's eyes meeting Christian's in the rearview mirror. "Hello?"
"Don't be mad at me, but I made a call this morning and had an appointment set up for you."
"I'm going to be so fucking mad if you're taking me to see Dr. Greene.", I snarl through gritted teeth.
"How I love that smart mouth of yours.", Christian chuckles. "Before you get so fucking mad, calm down. I called Dr. Moore."
"I told you over the phone that I had already called and couldn't get an appointment. You're telling me you were able to get me one?"
"I called after we talked. One of the benefits of being me is getting last minute appointments."
"You're unbelievable. I feel completely undermined.", I growl as Taylor parks and gets out. I'm about to open my door, but Christian tugs lightly on my hand. "Let's go to the appointment you used your name to get me."
"I understand you're upset. I'm just so excited about this baby that I couldn't wait to find out more." The side of me that's angry with him vanishes at the fact that he's truly ecstatic about the life we created together.
"I can't stay mad at you even if I tried."
After waiting only five minutes, I'm taken to the back where I have to give both a urine and a blood sample. I told Christian he should stay out front, but he insisted that he wanted to be with me the entire time. I'm finally led to the exam room where I lay back on the table with Christian grasping my hand.
"Ana, how are you?", Dr. Moore asks after joining us.
"I'm good and apparently pregnant."
"So I heard." She turns to Christian and smiles. "I don't believe we've met."
"Dr. Moore, this is Christian Grey, my fiancé and the man responsible for my appointment."
"Ah that's right. My receptionist told me the Christian Grey had called."
"That's me. I'm the Christian Grey.", Christian shrugs. "How far along is Ana?"
"I'm hoping to determine that shortly." She picks up a wand which she gels. "Lean back." I take a deep breath and lean back on the table as she inserts the wand inside me. "Are the two of you nervous, excited, or both?"
"Excited and anxious.", I answer. "Is your move to Sacramento still happening?"
"We're moving in a few weeks. My husband's been going back and forth between here and there, and it'll be much easier once we're in one place. I'm going to miss Seattle and my patients. I'm sure you're wondering about a replacement. I'll give you a list of the best doctors so you can meet with a new one as soon as possible."
"I'd like that." She glances at the screen in front of her and then turns it around so Christian and I can see what she's seeing.
"A baby at this stage looks like a dot on the screen." She points to the right side of the screen where a small dot appears. "Like this."
"You're saying that's our baby?", Christian asks, shifting in his seat.
"That's your baby. Judging from the size, I'd say Ana's about five weeks pregnant. Congratulations."
"Wow.", I mutter. I don't even try to hide my tears. This is a joyous occasion in which I'm going to show my true emotions. Christian is doing the same with his tears. He's in awe while focusing on the screen.
"I had no idea life could be this good.", Christian says.
"Just wait. It's going to get a lot better."
